Nice Deb - started the year I was born.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Spring Ahead!
Just overheard at work - Father saying to young man picking up his daughter for a date:
Don't hurt my daughter in any way because I have no problem with going back to prison.
My i bet that daughter is popular!
Or the prison is.
I hear he is not very popular with his daughter right now! I thought it was an awfully good line.
My kind of guy!
cell mate?
Potentially.
Just saw Billy Ray Cyrus on Oprah with his daughter re Hannah Montana. I think he is the "prison" kind of dad. She said she is allowed to have dates, but . . ..
I got the impression the BR Cyrus went along on the dates.
Reminds me - DH tells a story of his first date. He only had a learners permit, so his father had to come along in the back seat. Dad played the accordion during the ride! x, Carrie
That is funny! Nothing as romantic as your Dad playing a polka in the back seat!
Exactly!!!! I think he never got over it . . . . until he met me, at least. Although it certainly left a scar an impression! xx, Carrie
Anybody go to the Union Square market in NYC?
Chocolate basil seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth but according to this article it is sold at the Union Square market in NYC.

Going nuts today!
It looks so nice outdoors, but is still so cold!
I want to go play in my garden ..... whaaaaaaaa!
its 75 and sunny in Alabama! Putting away my long underwear for next year. They are all out there hanging on the clothesline!
Shhhhhhh .....
Candyce, we went out and played in our garden - brrrrrr. Then the wheelchair got stuck in the mud in the back, as it does on the traditional first trip around the side of the house every single spring for the past ten years. You'd think we'd have learned. x, Carrie
The Chefs from the best restaurants in NYC go to that market 'incognito' to buy items. ☺
WaterCan. Do you go there?
WC - even the food guys on radio talk about it.
Chocolate Basil is disappearing from the face of the earth. Wouldn't someone like to become famous as the one who saved it from oblivion? It may already be gone. Sigh!
My dad goes all the time.
Would he like to become famous for saving Chocolate Basil? It may not even be available yet that far north.
It's been a secret spot for the gourmet people for a while now, lots of famous chefs go there but you don't know who they are because they're not wearing their funny chef hats. They have really fresh stuff, I used to go there on my way to Canal St to pick up seafood. It's too far to be practical for me now. Now I when I have time in the city I usually go to the Lincoln center for the opera or the philharmonic. (...no I'm not 'stuck-up') lol! ☺
The 'Met'
In my day we went to Radio City and to the Metropolitan Museum and out to dinner for a night on the town.
I saw the premiere of NW Passage w. Cary Grant at Radio City--- you know where he gets swooped by an airplane and has to duck.
The girls with long legs danced before the main performance - the Rocketts.
Lots better than "Bugs Bunny".
There was the Fulton Fish Market, but no Union Square Market.
Now that would cost about $250, Gloria! I think you're thinking of North by Northwest - a very good movie. I'll ask my dad to check out the chocolate basil. Maybe with a vanilla orchid.
WC - about 45 years ago we took my two oldest nephews to the city on a regular basis and one day we were passing by the then famous Arthur Maisel's restaurant where the chef, in full gear, was cooking on the grill at the front window. My one nephew gasped and said, "Boy, that guy must have some big head", thinking his head was the entire size of the chef's toque. We still laugh about it and so does my nephew.
North by Northwest, yes. I keep saying there is nothing wrong with my memory. Well I did get the Cary Grant + plane part right maybe?
Im sure it didn't cost $250 in those days, although I did have a lot more dough in those days than now.
i have to say that the chocolate basil needs to be at least one plant that we can propagate. Basil, as you may know is an annual. It can be propagated from seeds or cuttings, but seeds may not be like the parent plant. Some people can root cuttings in water. It may be illegal if the plant is patented.
this is a plant that every one who gardens should have. My goodness! Chocolate Basil! Not just for snooty chefs!
lol Funny pirl! actually the biggest head I ever saw was on Kurt Russell, but he doesn't look like he has a big head in his movies! Good profession though, my aunt's husband was a chef and he used to bring back the biggest shrimp I have ever seen, one alone would be enough for dinner! ☺
Jumbo shrimp - that's a George Carlin oxymoron thing!
I am watching the TCM program on Joan Crawford. They just finished talking about how big her head was. I was remembering some one here said Kurt Russell has a large head and Ive been looking for that in his films. Any how, both very talented in spite of their heads!
He went to my HS - George that is.. ☺
Really?! Did he have a big head?
No, he grew one... ☺
When not in rehab or having heart attacks?!
Or when he verbally attacked the audience at Westbury Music Fair as he went through his routine of returning veterans from Viet Nam without arms or legs. After that I just couldn't put up with him.
Sounds like a pathetic person.
I know... I have more respect for Janis Joplin, and the HS has more or less 'disowned' him. I wont say which one it is because I don't want to tarnish it's name... ☺
Joplin went there too?
Hey!! lol ☺
