Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Spring Ahead!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

It's GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE not global warming. That confused me for a long time. Then my college student husband took the one required science course - in my day we could get away with Psychology as a Science. He took Earth Science and Oceanography and learned all about An Inconvenient Truth etc. but he almost understood it for a while and so did I, when he explained it to me. Now we've forgotten most of it 'cause he's taking different stuff this semester, but I do remember that it's Global Climate Change not Global Warming, which sounds not so bad in Jan. and Feb. up here. x, Carrie

The radical environmental change that is occurring is definately "bad"
whether you are a polar bear or a penquin or a little ol' lady with Northern bones living in Alabama.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

That's fer sure. You hit the nail on the head! x, Carrie

There is only one constant in the universe... change. ☺

Greensboro, AL

Change is good. Radical change is not good.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tell that to the forefathers!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

True Gloria, radical change is destructive. ☺

... get me a hot line to the forefathers!

Greensboro, AL

Yep. There are some old coots who think we should all get on the Mayflower and sail back home.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

National Geographic had an article not too long ago about the Polar Bears. The Ice they use to hunt and travel (as waypoints) is dissapearing. Their habitat is being destroyed. Like so many other species the only way one would see one in the future is by going to a zoo. Hopefully the predictions are wrong. ☺

Greensboro, AL

The habitats of the Mountain Gorilla and the Panda Bear are also disappearing. But the polar bear does not live on land that anybody else wants. The polar bear's land is disappearing because of stupidity.

Well, maybe I should say because of ignorance.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Doesn't China still have a large preserve for the Pandas? I think they have the most sophisticated research facility there for them, (as far as I know). ☺

Panda Bears at preserve in China.

QUOTED: from the times on line.co.uk

“do bears have thumbs?”
Panda's do have thumbs though, marking them out from other bears.

It also means they could carry a gun.

It's all scattelaogical to me.
Global Change is a cyclical event.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

True but we, then, are just blips on the cycle? Our existence is a random occurrence which really has no particular meaning? A sobering point of view, Candyce. ♫ ♫ ♫, Carrie

Greensboro, AL

Maybe more of a spiral than a cycle. As Heraclitis said, you never step into the same river twice. Meaning belongs to the communication systems invented by men /and women/. It doesn't belong to universal domain.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Good point. Hope it's an upward spiral. ♫ ♫ ♫♫ ♫ ♫, Carrie

Once you go threw the worm hole. It can mean anything as you can be in a different time.

Greensboro, AL

Sounds like you've been watching Stargate, Schick!

I think there is a worm hole in my back yard. My dog Roscoe is trying so find out where it goes.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

China? Maybe the panda sanctuary! The fishing must be good in a worm hole.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

'Cause of all the imported night crawlers! ♫ ♫ ♫, Carrie

Stargate Oh Yeah - don't get me going on that. The one episode where the people on the planet turned into Poofy White Plants :-)

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Speaking of global warming (and I don't mean global change in this instance).....it sure is hot and humid here today! Our friends who stayed 4 houses away from us for the last month just left this morning.....I'm already missing seeing them walk by on their way to the river. They are headed back to the Finger Lakes Region......hope it's starting to get Springy there.....how 'bout it, Deb??? Will they come back to nice weather??? Very warm temps are the norm here as we approach April. Go away wiggly creatures! Leave my gardens to the humans, please!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think Deb said it was snowing there this morning.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Sunny and 35 now, no accumulation from this mornings snow. Mid 30's for the next few days, some freezing rain and sleet maybe Tuesday.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I don't think it's very springy up there... if you try to spring you'll probably fall back into the mud! - cold, damp and raw as we transition into spring more like it. ☺

It gets to 45 and it's a heat wave.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Gloria, I hope Roscoe will find his way home after he finds out where the worm hole leads.

Fascinating reads here. Thanks!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great day here. I went shopping while my 17 year old neighbor worked in my garden cutting back and cleaning up for me. He's heaven sent!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

He'll join the Foreign Legion by 18, its easier! ☺

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does he have an 18 yr old sister??

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Is Roscoeback from china yet? Did he see any Panda's or rioting Tibetans?

Anybody read the essay "The Panda's Thumb" in the book of essays by the same title by the great, but now sadly deceased Harvard professor, Stephen Jay Gould. On of my favorite essays by him in this book is about Mickey Mouse's evolution from the little beady-eyed rat to the beloved big eyed pop icon of today. Patti

Greensboro, AL

I think he saw it all! He's taking a nap out under the pecan tree, with his head on a stump.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Victor, you better explain yourself about the 18 year old sister thing...

Roscoe sounds cute Gloria.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looking for a 'gardenette' to help me, just like Pirl has found help.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, right...

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I have a 17 year old daughter and she's NO HELP! Victor, be careful what you wish for.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ha ha ha!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Carrie, toss her ipod or cell into the weeds and see how fast she can pull them to locate her precious and perhaps life altering loss. It is amazing how fast they can move when they need to. I would probably hire one that would weed out everything that was suppose to stay and avoid all the weeds. I could use my adult friend to come back for another week of brush hauling. Patti
