College Station Spring Roundup-TRADES 2

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, I thought it was a bit chilly *here* today!

Lee, thank you for the info. It sounds like the step I missed was scarifying. I'll have to try that again when my plant gets going and is big enough to take cuttings from.

Pattie

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't remember who all wanted scutelleria longilfolia, but my cuttings aren't doing very well. I'm going to start some more and see what happens. Also I had to restart my rose cuttings. Keep your fingers crossed!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Pattie - I wound the node only because I think it helps the cutting start rooting...don't know for certain....but since one can "wound" a limb to start rooting when layering,...I thought I'd try it...I think temp & moisture content of the soil are probably as important, if not more so. Some cuttings NEED misting. Good luck with 'em!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I took a "cutting and rooting" class once and that's how we were told to do it. We also dipped them in a very mild clorox solution before planting.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Willis, I would love some of the herberti. Thank you very much, Charlene

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok all...back from Canada although they lost my luggage on the way back...sigh. Oh well. It was definitely chilly up there, 20s-30s all the time. But it was beautiful! And it was a great meeting too.

Anne....the apple mint gets about a foot or so tall but it spreads rapidly, just fyi. I have it over on the corner of the garden Jasper always ends up running through. Then he ends up smelling good!

I need to revise my list and hope to do so soon.

:) Kim

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

k, I'm guessing that the skullcap will go one on each end and one in the middle with the apple mint in between and the red salvia behind that and the zinnias in the back with the roses.

Freeport, TX

AJNTEXAS- Do you still have any of the white butterfly ginger rhizomes left? The only other gingers we have are variegated shell ginger and blue ginger ( which is actually not a ginger, but .... y'know). I could dig up one of the varigated shells, but my blue ginger still has a bit of the bloom on it and I don't have the heart to cut it up and root cuttings right now (but I will later if you'd like one).

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

KARLAE, I already have shell ginger but I would like some of your Hibiscus.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I have you down for Mexican mint marigold, Kim.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

AJ, I have quite a few brazilian plumes and I'm trying to get my scutelleria long. to make it. I'm going to cut some more in just a little bit. I don't know why they aren't looking good.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have any red raspberries they could share? My parents had a couple that they moved to a better location, and one of them died after it was moved. They'd like to replace it with one or two more.

Kim

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

AJNTEXAS- Jay...I'll mark you down for all of them - I would like to add
a Cast Iron Plant to my requests! Thanks so much!

KARLAE - Jim,....glad to be able to give them to you!

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Josephine, I found your list in a couple of spots and could not tell if you have an extra Carolina cherry laurel. If you do, I'd love to have one.

AJ, could I get a couple of cast iron plants and lysimachia cuttings?

Mary Lee, if you still have plenty, I'd love to have a couple of your Brazilian plumes.

Pattie, do you still have some toad lilies available. If so, please put my name on a few.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I have waited till just a bit before the meet, because, I can spare a lot of what I have, and would rather someone else get first dibs on stuff, because I have so much anyway.

I have Louisiana Iris, so much Iris, that the real limit is the time it takes to pick it and label it. No joke here. I do want to know who is looking for a particular color or range, or even just wants to be sure to get some, so I can label the plant for the person.

I have lettuce plants. So many lettuce plants, that again the limit is labor and pots with soil, not numbers. If you want to save seed, you need 20 or more plants to cross and save seed from.

I have Magenta Spreen Lambsquarter. Seriously, I can bring lots of it.

I have an onion, that is my very toughest. It crossed from one of the several varieties of onions I was growing a while back, with the wild native onions I was growing. It is growing amidst the grass in a high open spot with absolutely no attention, and in the shade of a fig tree in the midst of unkemp grass, again with no attention. It makes a delightful chive.

Here is an odd one, I have a small field of rain lilies, I have forgotten what color they are, I think yellow. They have a very dark leaf and grow quite thick. Again, I would be happy to provide some.

It you have a mint that you consider a weed, or any edible that you trust to come back each year, I really want it. If you have a fruit or berry tree such as an elderberry, I would love it. I really don't expect or need an exchange however.

I will save for you 1 Elderberry and Elephant Garlic bulbils.

I have a smallish pink Crepe Myrtle that I don't want. It's growing under 2 others and can't get sunlight. I live about 1 mile from the meet. If anyone wants it I'll supply the shovels and you can have it. Also if anyone has any experience with Red Hot Poker plants pls dmail me. I have a question.

Being from Louisiana, I would love some Louisiana iris! I have very little to bring, but will probably bring a few red and/or white pentas, and a couple of other things.

Thank you, Josephine, AJ, and Pattie!

Frostweed, the Elderberry and Elephant Garlic bulbils will be treasured. How much LA Iris do you have room for?

Jo_in_TX, I will be sure to save you a nice range of LA Iris!

I forgot to mention, that I also have pseudochorus or yellow flag, If you want it I will pull some.

Bob

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, I would love some LA iris as well Bob!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Bob - Thank you for the La irises you shared last year! Here is a photo of one, taken today. I got Bayou Tiger and Kinky Delight. Do you have any idea which one it is? It is absolutely gorgeous!!! And huge!

I have it next to a patch of Gulf Coast Penstemon (or behind, or in front of - depending which way it is being viewed...) and it is a spectacular combination.

That is one of my father's hybrids, Bayou Tiger.

The Kinky Delight will start getting twisty leaves when it is about to bloom.

Bob

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Bob, 10 or so will be sufficient, thank you very much.
Josephine.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Pat!

Willis...got you down for the purple basil and apple mint

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Bob, I would love to have some of your LA irises. The few LA irises I have are mostly lavender and purple, and I would like to add some other colors. Thank you for being so generous!

Sugar Land, TX

Oh, thank you so much, Bob! I have everything but red in my back garden, so almost anything you have to give me will be very much appreciated! Pinks, purples, yellows, apricots, softer oranges, etc.

Since I probably have nothing for you, would you like to make a request for food for me to bring? Chicken enchiladas or maybe a nice salsa with corn, tomatoes, red peppers, cilantro, etc. served with chips?

(Will we have a place to plug in a crock pot to keep food warm?)

Jo

Sugar Land, TX

Re read hot poker plants: - I tried to grow some by seed this year. What a disaster.... It was the only thing that didn't do well.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Jo....yes there should be a place in the kitchen to plug in a crock pot.

Sugar Land, TX

Thanks!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Actually I've had good luck. I'm going to give the seedlings to a friend. However, I have 3 that someone gave me last year. I forgot about them and discovered them in the gh doing just fine but needing to be moved from the small pot that they're in. I'm just trying to figure out where to put them.

Anne
