College Station Spring Roundup-TRADES 2

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Sylvia, if I can make connections with ceejay this Thursday I will pick up the shrubs for you. I have to pass that way and I have a truck.

P.S. If anyone lives near Spring/Tomball and wants to do a good deed...... I am going to work on my sister's yard next Saturday the 29th. She just has a small yard, but she is disabled and her dH works long hours so she needs help with her yard. She has a very tiny budget to work with, so if anyone is coming and wants to donate a plant or a bag of soil or pinebark I would love to have it to work with.

My sister has had way too many things going on with her health to list, but the biggest thing is she had a masectomy and is being checked further for possibly more problems. She has had surgery on her foot also recently. This causes her to not be able to do as much as she thinks she could otherwise. She has the antibiotic resistant staff that shows itself everytime she turns around. She has nearly died from that alone. I just want to do something nice for her. Nancy is her name. She has always done so much for other people and still does. She does meals on wheels twice weekly and volunteers at her church. She has been active in Girl Scouts and so many other things. She really has a heart for other people. I just think it is her turn to have someone volunteer to help her.

Nancy has some shrubs she is wanting removed, so anyone wanting those can have them. I don't know which ones they are, but they are under her window and she wants them out of there.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Charlene, start a new thread that the subject gets that need out to others. I can't come, doing the BF exhibit that weekend also. But there maybe some down her way that can meet you and help. Best of luck.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

Linda, I'll take some of the Red Yucca off your hands.

Anne I'll bring you some of each. My garlic is in part shade but it is supposed to do best in full sun. I plan on putting some in the sun soon.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

pbtxlady - Pattie,...I'm afraid my Coral Nymph salvia has, indeed, expired. Thought for a while, it might have survived but I'm afraid not!
My apologies,...but fortunately,...I saw some other(s) available - to be brought- to the RU.. Just wanted to let you know....I'm trying to get some seed to germinate ....maybe I'll have so seedlings by then.

Lee

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Mary Lee - I'll put you down for some Black Pearl - they will definitely be annuals for you, but you can save some seed for next year. Our winter was so mild that I have seedlings coming up this year! And so I have extras to offer... Those Crinodonna are evergreen for me. :-)

To everyone - Sorry I have been MIA, but too much happening here, and now my DD comes to visit with my two precious DGDs for the next week. I'll try to check in, so please look at my list and see if there is anything you would like. No trade necessary (where would I put it?). I just hate to toss plants if there's a home out there for them....

Charlene - Is there anything of mine that Nancy could use?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I may have some more coral nymph to share...need to check.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I still have coral nymph popping up as seedlings. I'll bring a lot. Probably have 6 or 7 right now, and will go look for more to pot up.

I now have some very tiny parsley hawthorn tree seedlings to give. (5 or 6 but can go get more) I dug them from a beautiful native tree near my neighborhood. It's in full bloom now, and bees were enjoying the blossoms. It's a smallish tree even full grown - in some understory of pines. I'm patient, and can wait for it to grow.

Loads of panama bee balm seedlings. They are growing slowly, but surely!

Dill and parsley seedlings are doing very well. Should have lots for the butterflies (or you!)

I'll update my list - been so busy doing soooo many things - barely keeping up with the spring garden clean up!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Bookworm,
Could I please have a few of the panama bee balm seedlings?

Thank you,
Charlene

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

That's okay, Lee, it sounds like there will be plenty there. :)

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

And now I'll be a recipient,too!!! :) Thanks y'all!

bookworm - Me too! I'd like a few of the Panama bee balm, if you've enough,
Thanks!

BTW - I have some "Ragin Cajun" ruellia cuttings that are going to take - Linda, I remember that you wanted some,...and someone else wanted some - please remind me!!

I also have a few Lindheimer's Morning Glory (thanks to Linda for giving me a starter a while back!) Here's a pic of it today

I'd love some of the Ragin Cajun if you have any left.

Anne

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Charlene had asked for Ragin' Cajun too. Sorry that mine failed!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Bookworm, would you save me 2 Parsley Hawthorn seedlings, please? Thank you.
Josephine.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Cj. It sounds beautiful.

I was outside with DD today before she went back to school. We were looking at the crinodonna "stubb". It was just beginning to show some green and I showed it to her and was obviously very excited to see it looking so good. She was very quiet. I said "I know only a gardener would look at that and get excited." She said "yes I suppose so."

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

I've got AuntAnne, Charlene & Linda down for the Ragin Cajun ruellia!

Pattie,...I was lucky I think because of the spurt of warm days a few days ago,....I prepared several cuttings with maybe a third being successful - maybe I didn't hold my mouth right :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Panama red Bee Balm seedlings for all! They are tiny, now - but very hearty. I have at least 10.

Josephine - yes - 2 parsley hawthorn seedlings for you. Also quite small - but the mother tree is a gorgeous tree - so good genes. I'll try to get a good pic.

Mixed hollyhock seedlings, anyone? A prolific re-seeder for me - same for coral nymph salvia, and Ott mornng glory - lots of those, too.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Bookworm, I would love both the bee balm and the mixed hollyhocks. What can I bring for you?

Lee, I want you to tell me how you got yours to root. I have tried during all seasons and all mediums to root some up because mine have never survived the winter, and I have to buy them again every year. This year, I did finally get a couple to root in water, but they croaked when I potted them up. I also managed to keep the mama plant alive inside in a pot. But I cut it back so much in the fall that there's nothing at this point to take cuttings from.

Isn't that funny? I have four other kinds of ruellia that I compost by the bushels. But this one--my favorite, natch--has to be coddled just to survive.

Freeport, TX

Add-on to trade list- I'll have some bleeding heart (Clerodendrum Thomsoniae) cuttings also. I have a few of both white with red center and solid red ones.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Karlae, I would love one of each of the bleeding hearts. If you get too many requests, may I just have whichever one is least requested.
Charlene

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks PBtxlady - I'll hold the requests for you! Hopefully I'll have the time to look at yours and everyone's lists. I've had a particularly busy couple of months, so haven't been following the offerings too well. I intend to do that soon!

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I really need to update my list! I will try to do that in the next day or two.

Freeport, TX

Charlene, I'll tag one of each for you. The red ones really add a touch of color to your yard when they bloom at Christmas time.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I have been terribly remiss in posting trades, but I promise I will get to it at the beginning of the month.
Josephine.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have crinum or clivia for trade??

Anne

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

Anne,
Are you looking for a specific crinum, or just crinums in general? Any particular color? I have a few, I still need to check which ones. Off the top of my head I know I have available 'Hannibal's Dwarf' and 'Maidens Blush.' Probably some others as well. I am so far behind! I'll try to get my trade list posted this weekend.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm bringing some crinum but I have no idea what kind they are.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

If anyone has extra crinums in pink or striped, I would love a trade of them.

I will be adding to my list as soon as I know for sure what has survived the winter.

Charlene

Freeport, TX

I finally got a chance to actually read all of the trade lists. Kim- we'd love to have a pink brug and white Texas Star ( plants aren't critical, if we could just get some seeds it would be great ). Also - AuntAnne, Datura seeds would be wonderful. ( I've actually learned good ways to sprout those on DG. ) If I have anything on my list that y'all want just let me know. Gotta get back to work. Jim

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Any crinums would be greatly appreciated.

Anne

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I have amarcrinums (AKA crinodonnas) which bloom pink and are fragrant - Fred Howard, I believe. And I much prefer the foliage on them which stays neat instead of falling all over the place.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

That would be great. What sort of light do they need/stand?

Anne

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

bookworm28, could I try one of your Coral Nymph? Is there anything on my list you'd like?
Lee...the MG is looking good! Mine aren't blooming yet...living on a hill, I have to be patient. Sheila is always telling me stuff that both of us have is blooming at her place, and usually it takes a while before my plants start up.
I put down Josephine and AJNTEXAS for the Red Yuccas...will have to wait until I dig them to see how many I have.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Linda - sure thing about the coral nymph. I've potted up quite a few of the seedling babies and will bring plenty. Small, now - but just you wait.... beautiful and big, and soon you'll be giving plantlets away! BF's LOVE them.

I haven't had time to check everyone's offerings, but hopefully soon! I figure we'll all bring enough extras that everyone will go home with a truckload!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

AuntAnne - I have found that all day sun tends to burn the leaves, so I would say that part sun is best for them in our area. We divided several clumps two years ago and they are all nice sized plants now.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Pattie - sorry I'm just responding.....I cut a section of stem, preferably with a couple of leaves,(I nip off any large and leave only a couple of small)...cutting just below a leaf node...I scarify the node a little with the razorblade (best to use a clean sharp blade)...dip that end into rooting hormone (if powder -type....tap off excess powder) ...insert into
premoistened rooting mix ( I really have best resiults with compost-rich mix) - lightly firm up around cutting and wait - now,...one advantage I have is a greenhouse to help keep the soil temperature elevated - I think that the soil temp is very important for some/most plants - at least 70 or more - too cool...and the cuttings will rot or die outright. Hope this helps!

Oh yeah,...I also mist them everyday - a couple of times if possible

Lee

Just a quick note here to say greetings from Canada....I am here for a meeting through Sunday. I'll catch up on my lists when I get back home.

:) Kim

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

A bit chilly up there, eh?

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

AuntAnne - I have a large no. of Ellen Bosanquet crinum and I also have a large group of what I think is a C. herbertii related offspring (it's white with reddish pink stripes -pleasant fragrance) that I'd be glad to provide if you desire (Charlene - let me know if you'd like some of the herbertii) I'll add the Crinum herbertii-type to my list

Blue Eyes how tall do the Apple Mints get? I'm trying to plan that west side flower bed and I was thinking some skullcap as well. Just need to know which to put in front of the other or neither....or whatever....it's been a long day. lol
