Yes Betty, it does sound as if that family has some good things going on for them. Now, you being the mother hen and telling all of us to get to the doctor, need to take you own advice and go and have this tummy issue looked at. This is going on for too long now. It has been over 5 days or so since you first began talking about it. Let us know what the doctor says. Okay?

Oh Sharran......all I can say is that I am so sorry that you are feeling as lousy as you are. Yuck !!! I am with Dawn on taking advantage of the time when you are up and down out of bed to catch up on reading or what ever it might be that you don't seem to have time for. Here is wishing for a long restorative sleep for you soon. I hope that when you awake from the long nap that most of your symptoms will have subsided.

I have been potpourri-ing every bloom I can from my garden for years! I continuously have a large tote full. You would be amazed at what dries and keeps it's beautiful colors! I start in the Spring with all the Rose petals and Peony petals and anything else that I know will dry. I have large. shallow wicker trays that I spread the petals out on,and--if it is not too humid, I just leave them outside under my patio. Or--I take them inside.
In the Fall, I cut off all of the small gloom-heads that are still flowering-and use them too. Even in the early winter, I collect all the spent flowers from my Christmas cactus and just put them on a plate on top of my fridge.
I grow Gomphrena and Straw Flowers just for my potpourri.
Then I go to Thrift shops and buy pretty lace curtains. Cut them up in squares, line them with another square of bridal tulle (so all the small chaff won't fall out) fill them with a hand-full of pot[ourri, tie it off with a pretty ribbon and glue-gun some flowers on the knot.

They have a fresh, garden-y fragrance all on their own, but that would never last. So--I scent them with potpourri oil. You can refresh them any time you want with some of this oil. I use a bamboo skewer, dip it in the bottle and then poke it all through the sachet ball in couple of places.
Couldn't tell you all this when you were oohing and ahhing about how wonderful the fragrance was--because that would have ruined the whole SP thing. Now you know......

If I could laugh I would, but laughing is not an option since both sides of my ribs surely will crack if I did.......but I'll tell you, I have been knocked off my feet. this is the person who can do anything, you know....total control? And total dignity, don't forget? Ha. there was a set of books that my kids used to love and one of the ccharacters was Lowly Worm. Lowly worm was my hero because he just needed one shoe, one sock, etc......All powerful was Lowly worm.

Now I an a mass of jelly. How perfectly humiliating. And to think I have been this way since Saturday morning. And when you are sick, everybody tells you what to do to get better. I think I really need one of those asphidity bags that aunt Bett made me.

And oh, goodness, people mean well, but as soon as I would close my eyes last night, the phone would ring again. this went on all night long, it seemed. I was really trying to keep the meds down and Ash called at 11 pm;
Mom, you OK?

No

Mom, what did the doctor say?

Doctor said for me to be quiet and rest.

Mom, what kind of meds did he give you?

don't know, ash, but a flu med, an antibiotic, and a pain med.

Mom, what kinds of medicines.

Ash, I am in bed, I cant get up and walk into the kitchen to tell you the name of the meds.

Mom, you should have come on to Florida so I could wait on you.

ash....I would have barfed my way to florida and from the looks of things, would be barfing still, so can we not talk for awhile and let me go to sleep.

OK........end of that call.
Two hours later:
Mom...you OK?
Yes Ash, I am fine.
Mom, what's your temp?
ash, my temp is rising everytime this phone rings. I am OK, I promise I will be better, but you have got to let me off the phone long enough for me to get some rest.......

So between the two of them, my children nearly drove me nuts when they found that I really did have an illness with a name to it. I guess it didn't count as long as Mom has a "cold."

Now, sweet ladies......I am trying to sit up several times a day and I appreciate your good thoughts and well wishes. I too am upset that I missed my florida trip, but I can do that anytime. I have Kay, a neighbor who watches over me daily, much more than I am used to, and all is well.so you just take care of you, and have fun with your day.

Gita..you will have us all inspired to make potpourri..I have saved roses and done the same..one year I grew strawflowers and used to glue them into swags..when they were all the rage.

...Well, I am sorry to report that I have caught whatever is running around my house. Fibbed a tiny bit about why i stayed home yesterday, Well did hurt my finger and it still hurts. Buy time I went to bed last night, thought my head should be yanked off and buried. Couldn't fall asleep till 1:30, every possble sound vibrated in rythm with the pounding going on in head. Soo today, i am at work, but still headache and just the thought of food, yuck. Now, DS # 1 is home sick too. So will be quiet for few days till I am over this. LOL I will be here tomorrow to Celebrate Gita's Birthday.

Judy, I just found my cell phone in the bottom of my purse and there were a couple messages from you. Sorry, I am not sure, but think you left them yesterday, and my yesterday would be best forgotten.

Congestion has loosened somewhat, so maybe something is working, though I am still not up and moving at all. I paid about $120 for meds, and that is above and beyond what my insurance paid, so I must be on some powerful drugs. I just wish they would work faster.

Much like you, Betty, while I was napping earlier, my neighbors brought in some soup and crackers....didn't make a sound, just left it on my counter.

Test was a breeze last night! I know I missed one part of the last entry so if that's all I got wrong, it's only 2 pts off. My next class starts on the 24th but we're going to be out of town for 3 days for spring break so I will miss that one. I also have a perennials class starting on 4/21 which should be fun. After that, only one more plant class and then I have to decide if I want to pursue the graphics courses. We'll see.....

Very warm and cloudy here today. Rain coming and maybe a thunderstorm (yeah!). Oh I have to tell you the best thing that happened yesterday. I got home from work and there was a large envelope from my previous employer (we're talking 9 yrs ago) and I open it and there is a letter telling me the accounting firm who issued my lump sum payout on my 401K didn't calculate it right so they owed me more $$ PLUS interest. So I look down and there's a check for $600 with fed taxes already taken out!! Woo Hoo! I told DH there's my gardening money for this year! Of course, Mr. practical is like "you could use part of that wo buy our new bedsode tables for when (and if) our bed arrives" I'm like "I don't think so"! We would have spent money on tables without this so we're going to pretend we don't have this!!! TEEEEEE HEEEEEE! But, I do have it!!! I'm hitting Lowes this weekend!! Woo Hoo!!!

OK, going home now. Will check back in later. here's a cool webcam of a nesting pair of eagles down at the botanical gardens I went to last week. YOu should read the updates on them and all about the "intruder" that came in and messed up their nest. It's a riot!

So called another # for late night bookings, they are booked today so they told me to call at 9am tomorrow and they will try to fit me in..I can only hope tomorrow is a 'snow day'..

The "Human Body Exhibit" my daughter ans I went to yesterday is unbelievable!!! Too bad we were not allowed to take any pictures.
If you are the least bit squeamish, brace yourself. It is a HUGE exhibit. Took us 2 hours to see it all and read all the stories of what we were looking at.

Google "Plastication" --the process they used to make all these bodies, and all parts of the bodies permanently hard and preserved. I bet you will see samples of some of these amazing bodies. All cut open, dissected, all organs visible, in amazing poses (Ballet, skater, football player, runner, etc). Some of the bodies were completely split open to show every bone and ligament and where the organs sit, etc. A pregnant woman with her belly cut open to show the unborn fetus, every organ in glass-covered showcases--healthy or cancerous, Too much to describe!
If it ever comes your way--make sure you go see it.

Morning! Had breakfast and a cup of coffee. Ahh feel better!

Have today off. Was suppose to be yesterday. Was about ready to fly out the door for shopping and Dr.s Appointment when the boss called. Truck will be in this afternoon! When can you come in? After my errands. ON the way to town thought "Hmmm can call DH and see if he wants to meet me after work to go out for supper."

Got home and called him and he was fine with the idea. Called work and said I can be in at such and such a time. It worked out fine exept I was so tired by then. But we had supper out. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and a huge salad. They make such nice salads there. Got home and into my jammies. Had strawberry shortcake for dessert! Fell asleep watching tv. Went to bed and slept fairly decent for once plus all night!

At Wally World I found some white bleeding hearts and some canna bulds bought them. Maybe I should of bought more cannas? Those will go down by the pond. The Hearts will go in my shade are. Can hardly wait. I will plant them in pots today. My Stargazer lillies I bought are coming up. I have to move them into the greenhouse today.

Even tho it is snowing I feel spring coming. The days are getting longer and there is hope in the air!

I will hit a few but not try to catch up to all. Will be popping in and out all day since I am home.

Sharran hope the meds are starting to work and that you got some restful sleep last night.

Of course I cannot JUST sit and watch t.v. - must listen to t.v. while working..lol so got out my glass, working on my living room window piece and it should be nice..I'm just not sure how I'll like something dangling in the front window...then I got a garden seating book and a planter book for birthday..looked through it, fell in love with the living 'birdhouse' have dimension and will probably pick up wood this aft. to do one over the weekend...it's just so pretty..here is my stained glass piece I'm working on and to the right a photo of the living birdhouse..now I have to purchase appropriate plants..one of the plants is the hens/chickens..guess maybe they are drought tollerant...it will be fun..

thats what we do sort everything by vendor, we even have the boxes labeled to put the product in make it so much easier to check it in and put it away we have cut down 1 1/2 days by doing this.

Hi All,
I was awakened by a call from the med center asking me to return today for a progress check. So my neighbor Kay drives me in. I will tell you what I know so that you can be on the alert just in case:

this is a new strain of influenza, not the usual variety, and the flu vaccine doesn't necessarily stop it or even slow it down.

I woke up Saturday morning with a severe headache, and with deep chest congestion.

I could hardly keep myself awake for Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday I went to the doctor early, but even so it had been nearly 54 hours. If I had known what it was and could have gotten to him earlier, some damage might have been averted. Tami flu is the treatment that seems to ease the symptoms, the only treatment that is known to work, but it should be started within 48 hours. Even so, by Monday, I had pneumonia.
They started the round of Tami flu treatment in the office, and gave me an antibiotic as well because of the high white blood count, and they did a breathing treatment.

I slept through yesterday for the most part.

Back in this morning, so here is the restof the story. Same process today, X ray, blood work, breathing treatment, resulting in this: the Tami flu is working, if I had been able to start the treatment earlier it would possibly have not developed into pneumonia, blook count is better, and congestion is not as bad, not as tight.

If you have the slightest hint that you are getting sick, it doesn't feel like getting a cold......you need to get medical help. My doctor knows me very well and at my insistence is helping me to stay out of the hospital, but only because I have some very dear neighbors who are around to check on me.

So for now it is bedrest and liquids.
I'm not a high maintenance little ole lady after all.

I just want you all to be careful. This is not your everyday flu, and my understanding is that it can be fatal if not attended to quickly. Cat, I am wondering if this is anything like you had?

I am telling you all this for a couple of reasons, first I want you to take care of yourselves, and secondly, I am on the road to recovery, so please don't worry.

In all my Birthday wishes, everyone says: "I hope you are having fun!".

WHAT does "having fun" mean?????? For those of us who live by ourselves it seems like real "fun" is an unattainable goal. One day is like any other........

BUT--on each Birthday, I am thankful that I am still healthy, able to be active, young in mind and body and Spirit, and that I have an outlet like this to speak my mind--now and then.
Also--that I still have a job (sort of....) and can be a productive soul in today's economy.

Basically----I am in charge of my own life--to whatever extent. Freedom to do AS I wish, WHERE I wish, WHAT I wish and WHEN I wish-----------that is priceless......

YES! What I DO wish for--is that I could have someone to share my life with. The usual "bummer" of us older women!
