Best/Worse/??learnt today...Pt34 A visit with friends...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

But there is one other thing I have to say.
about a week ago when Laura was talking about the tops that Betty had sent to her...I was looking for some gauzy light weight cottons to take to Florida. Nothing to be had here, but I already had a few pieces from other trips to Florida, so it wasn't a big problem.

Still, thinking about the lightweight wrinkle free fabric....I d mailed Betty and asked the name of the company, thinking I could order.

Long story.....
Today I received in the mail, the absolutely most wonderful one piece casual, or dressy......sort of capri jumpsuit, in a glorious mango/bright salmon.....wonderful color.....OMG. It is wonderful. I would never have thought that anybody could ever fit me, sight unseen, a million miles away....how did you do that Betty?
I can't imagine how on earth you would even attempt to find that very one thing that I would love, and then to have it fit me?
Overwhelming.

Betty assures me that she goes to an outlet store, and that the cost to her is not great....I don't believe that for a minute.....BUT......she has no clue what I have in store for her. So payback time, Betty...coming up as soon as I return from Florida!!!! Just wait....I have a plan.

You all have a good weekend, I will try to post before I leave....BUT I just tucked my little sweetie into bed with his 3 beanie baby kitties, "a yellow one like Jazz, a black on like Daisy, and a white one to be their friend." We haven't named the white one yet....but will tomorrow he says. First words outta his mouth, "OK Nana, can you sleep with me so we can make a tomorrow plan?"
You gotta love him. It was midnight, and my son was carrying him in asleep on his shoulder. Ethan opened one eye and those were the words he said. so we talked a little, put his pjs on , he told me about the kitties....
and now I am trying to get myslf into bed as well.
Talk to you soon.
Hugs to all of you.
Happy birthday weekend, Betty.

Awww.....Sweet Sharran. So special coming from a grandchild. I have to admit that while my daughter in law was pregnant, I wasn't too sure that I liked the idea of being a GRANDMOTHER!!!! Where in the world did my life go? How did I get to this point so quickly? waaa waaa waaaaa

Well, since first laying eyes on her there has never been one of those thoughts again. I cannot remember being so in love with even my own sons. I suppose it has something to do with the wisdom that comes with the years lived. I have said it time and again, I go weak in the knees when that sweetheart grins at me. Nothing like having grandchildren.

Gosh, I had two days to catch up with here. Thank you to everyone posting and remembering to speak to me. Only question that I can remember anyone asking is Gita asking about Darius. I am not sure what posts what I was referring to when mentioning Darius. The one that speaks of often is Sustainable Alternative Lifestyles, or something like that. Did you read what I said about taking a picture of her? She asked to have it done when she returns here on the 13th of March.

Sharran, have a great trip to Florida. A trip there sounds really good to me.

I see that my secret pal was Cat. I posted a while back about getting the sun catcher, but didn't post a picture. Yesterday there was another goodie in our mailbox. She also sent a candle set and candle holder. I love all of the gifts. I will try to post a picture now.

Here is hoping that everyone will have a great weekend. I am off in a bit to continue organizing the spare bed room which from here on I will be referring to as my office. That is what the organizer called it, so I will try to get in habit of calling it that also.

Hi and have a good weekend to all readers.

The sun catchers says "Live each day with an exclamation and not an explanation." Very similar to the one that Cat send to Sharran. I love both gifts Cat. Thank you so much.

Wow! Busy bees you have been! Sorry I wasn't around yesterday. I actually worked from home and sewed most of the day.

First off, I want to thank Laura for my wonderful secret pal gifts. It wasn't hard figuring out she was my SP! Again, Laura's generosity abounds! Thank you Laura - you are a sweetheart!!!

So I am fighting my anxiety this weekend. My DS was invited to go with my neighbor's father to spend the weekend with him, his wife and neighbor's son. I have not problems with that at all. He's done this plenty of times. My anxiety kicks in when I think about this 76 year old man driving my son and his grandson around. Also, they are going down to their river house later today and "Dagen" (the grandfather) mentioned he will warm the house up by turning on the oven and opening the door (I don't know if it's electric or gas). I know he's been doing this for years, but my DS is there this time. All I could think of my carbon monoxcide (sp). I told DS to sleep by a window and crack it open. I know I am worrying for nothing, but that's my anxiety kicking in. It is so hard letting go and not controlling every aspect of your child's life - and I have the harder years yet to come! Say a prayer for him AND me!

So I finished my latest quilt top. Let me just tell you it was a BEAR! I will never make a quilt that has matching seams like this one! ARGH!!! Anyway, it's done and not perfect for the professional but perfect for me so here's a picture. I prompty started my next one (gotta get this stuff done before gardening starts!). THis one is one I bought at the show last week and I just love the colors. I have cut all the pieces out and have the majority pinned together and ready to sew. Once that's all done (and providing seams match up), I will put it together and go on to the next one!

So here's the one I finished (thankfully!) yesterday. I will be sewing lots today so I will check back in later.

Hugs to you all!!

Morning all..Ruby no wonder you get weak in the knees, she's absolutely beautiful..was nice getting all of these 'secret pal' gifts and now we're on to surprise 'new friends' .. will look forward to seeing photo's of both you and Darius..

Shar, you will be off to a new adventure..glad you enjoyed the outfit..it's something that would have come home with ME had it fit..lol just went back Shar to read your post, saw 'coming up' surprise wouldn't be your 'coming up' would it....now I'm really on pins and needles..honestly Shar, wouldn't lie, the guy charged me $10.00 for the outfit which usually sells for $89.99 in stores..so no need to be treating me...if it made you 'smile' then it was worth $10.00

Was looking at the photo's of my last night birthday party, lordy, photo's don't lie..you don't realize just how much weight or how you've aged till you take a photo..yuk

Jeannine, don't you be fretting, am sure he'll enjoy himself..the more we 'cuddle' the children I think the more possibly they can't cope with changes in lives, surrounding etc. you've taught him well, am sure if something is not safe he'll realize it..so go enjoy your weekend of - 1 child..lol

Last night at the birthday party I ordered ribs, haven't had them in forever..didn't touch my meal at all, tummy was so queazy, so now I have supper for tonight..and cake/cake/cake! thought it might be the excitement but this morning I'm nauceous so think I'll go into town and get something to settle my tummy, might even spend some of my birthday $$$$ now that I have GPS to locate shopping stores/malls...lol

Do enjoy your day..snow is slowing down, thank goodness, some of my relatives stayed in town so it will be good for travelling home...let's hope..

Here's a nice photo I capture this a.m.

Have a wonderful day all

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Oh Cat!..you are making me jealous with your 70 degree temp. Soon I will be in Myrtle beach feeling the same.

Betty that is a lovely photo of your dining room..so warm..and I see your cat loves to be close to flowers..as he was on the deck phto you posted awhile ago.
You certainly got spoiled by your family and friends..how lovely..but a shame you couldn't eat your dinner. Sometimes I think we get so excited we don't feel like eating. YOu ahve such a lot of thing splanned for this weekend you need to feel better quickly.

I had no idea who my Secret pal was. Turns out our sweet Gillian was mine. I wrote her a D-mail this morning to thank her personally. To throw me off the trail she ordered it form EBAY.ca and had it sent to me form the seller.

Sharon..wishing you BON VOYAGE! How generous of Betty to send you a gauzy outfit..and incredible that it fits.
We look forward to a photo of you wearing it.

Liz..neat talent..and a great way to recycle old spoons..each one a unique work of art.

Ruby..enjoyed seeing your grandaughter again and hearing your enthusiam about being a grandmother.
Mine call me Nana..
I like the saying on your suncatcher.

Jeannine..gorgeous quilt..I can see it would be a nightmare matching up all those lines and sewing them straight..whew! You have my admiration..

Snow again yesterday and it drifted fairly deep across the walkway..was going out to shovel..but it is snowing again..and the sun disappeared. A garden show just finished on the radio..talking about apple trees and pruning and the maple syrup flow....etc.

Hi Laura..how are the plants in your Fernery? Maybe you could send us a photo..I remember seeing one a long while ago..just to show us some green. LOL

Gita..how is the weather there..any signs of green?

Judy..How is Breenie today?

Hi ves..you still snowed under??

First of all---thank you Jennine for all the wonderful SP gifts you sent me! I loved them all.

Starzz--The weather here is still roaring away! Cold and windy. Nights into upper teens ans low 20's. Oh, there are some green things here and there, as all it takes is a couple mild days and up they come. All my bulbs are up--anywhere from 1"-4". I see signs of growth on my Rose bushes, bit--it is too early to prune yet. Gotta wait until the Forcythia is in bloom.

Lots of clean up to do---
Lots of seeds to plant--can't get my heart around to doing that. I got the rack and filled a bunch of cell packs with Seed starting mix. Deciding just WHAT I want to plant and how much of everything--is very hard. As i have said before----i am NOT really into seeds all that much. Yet I collect them and go to seed swaps and now I have a gazillion seeds.
Maybe i will start tonight.

Gotta look for 3' shop lights at HD when i go in Monday. I have some hours!!! YEA!!!!!

How is everyone else doing with all their seeds?

OK! Chat later.......Gita

Wow Miss Birthday Lady, you are making out like a bandit!!! What a testament to your life that so many people, near and far want to acknowlege your special day.

I am getting excited about the new round of secret pal gifts. I loved both of my gifts and I hope that Judy liked the things that I sent her. She must have because she took them to work one day. ha-ha Just thinking of Judy puts a smile on my face. Well, thinking of all of you makes me happy. What a very special group of women.

Allright, hubby just finished grilling a roast on the grille. Time to eat. You all have a good rest of the weekend. Will check back later on.

And my frame and little boot and cup are at work where I can see them everyday. I put my DH photo in the frame. Also, my little Dragon fly. As soon as i can though the Dragon fly will come home and live amongst the garden off the deck. It is very thoughtfull of you. I thought I said that I love them all. Thank you again....Now what a sweet thought that I make you smile...Makes me smile to see you posting and having fun with us...You are right all of you are Beautiful...Just heard the perfect song too, made me think of all of us.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Betty!!!!!!!!
what a disapointment! You should get on the phone and ask around LOL

No, I have never been to the Canada Blooms show. I don't go to Toronto..don't like crowds..or the high prices they charge. I am quite happy to go to our local garden centres and look around for free. I'm what you might call very frugal....LOL
I am leaving for Myrtle Beach this Tuesday..

You two girls got your cleaning done yet or are you still dancin'...??????? it is so neat that you two have really hit it off..and live so far apart.

Gita..I'm not one to do seeds much either..I will try a few when I get back from Myrtle Beach...but I don't really have much success..and besides I am impatient..

Hi Ruby..ohhh a BBQ.......lucky you.

Laura..too bad about the sewing machine..is it just jammed up around the bobbin?

I have to find something to eat now..had cookies and coffee..that's not it...

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm calling this a day..wow, I'm totally exhausted..no supper, just a hot chocolate, peanut butter sandwhich...was going to go next door to get a meal but don't even know if I could eat it..tummy just topsy

Again Rachel, loved my 'pressies' in fact used the pin cusion cup yesterday while mending Greg's floater suit..
All much appreciated...

Carol, how long are you going to Myrtle Beach for???

Laura that's the pitz, sewing machine broken, now what do you mean broken, what's it doing??? let Aunt B know (that's for Dawn)lol

Liz, you've been awfully quiet, what have you been up to these past few days..I seem to be gabbing more than I should..must be the excitement..from the sounds of it you are 'housecleaning' knowing you, St.Patrick's day is just around the corner and your home will be in green!

Judy, why clean the craft room, it will only get dirty a couple minute later...you crafty one!

Gita, going to drop into a few nurseries tomorrow and will pick up necessary products to get my seeds going..killed the 5 pots of herbs..d#%n!

Off to bed, bringing my gardening books I got yesterday to read..that ought to last about 5 minutes...if that...

Best of Today..relaxing day
Worse..upset tummy
What did I learn..dog barking..got company

hi all, well i found out what was wrong with the machine. i didnt know that you had to have different needles for different jobs and the one i was using was too.. thin and springy so instead of going through the fabric each time it would miss stitches. so its fixed now.

Hello to everyone - Hope that everyone had a good Saturday and will also have a good Sunday. I like the same sorts of days that you do Betty, relaxing ones.

Great on getting the table cleaned Liz. I noticed the wooden box sitting there. Did you purchase it at Michaels? Several years ago I bought boxes like that for each of my sons. I decoupaged them with items that was the main interests of each son. My older son's box had guitars and musical notes on it and my younger son's was done with a baseball motif. I had fun doing those for them.

Just wanted to tell Cat that a bit ago I was dusting the table where the candles that you sent are sitting. All of a sudden I was inhaling the most delicious aroma. It was the wonderful aromatherapy candles that you sent. They are citris smelling and quite wonderful. Thank you, thank you.

Here is wishing our vacation gals a wonderful time. Wish I were going with one or either of you. ha-ha Have lots of fun and get relaxed. Starzz, my hubby wants to know how you are getting to Myrtle Beach? Flying?

Oh yeah, was reading about Jeannine's apprehension about sending her son off in a car with a 70 some year old gentleman. What came to my mind was the way that I handled having to send my toddler off for the weekend's to visit his father when we were getting divorced, a million years ago. I wasn't apprehensive of the father, but of his new wife who hated me with a passion.

During that time I was very involved with a church and spent time each day reading scripture. I was so hurt (devastated) over the divorce. The scripture gave me much comfort during those black days. Anyway, sending my baby off and having to give up complete control for two days was one of the very hardest things that I had ever had to do up until that point in my life. I went to a Bible Concordance and looked up the topic of children. I was referred to the story of Hannah, who had waited many years and prayed so hard for a child. She was finally blessed with a child and her prayer then was - "For this child I have prayed and my petition has been granted. From this day forward I give him back to you." I realized that first and foremost my child belonged to the Lord, not to me. Whatever happened or didn't happen was up to the Lord and he had always done a pretty good job with things in my life, so I would let him handle this one too.

This is not to say that we allow our children in to unsafe situations. It does say to me that we are not the one's controllling the world, and for myself at least, it is a good thing, what a mess I would make if the running of the world were up to me. I can hardly help myself most days. ha-ha

Anyway, I found that the more times that the children go away, the easier it gets to begin feeling okay about their safety. I would say that your feelings were completely normal. Just don't let them cripple you or your son. Thank you for feeling safe enough to share that with us. I hope that you were able to settle down last evening and not feel too badly. Let us know when he arrives home safely today.

To all others.....please have a good Sunday. Thank you all for giving me a place to come and share my days with you all. Will check back later on today.

That is great news Laura. Very simple solution. I envy any of you who sew. I really didn't have the patience to do it. I hated fighting machine problems too.

Uh oh, almost afraid to mention this here. I know from reading that Betty is the great encourager of crafts. Two Christmas's ago I bought a computerized machine that has never been taken out of the box. At the time I must have been thinking that sewing something would be nice.

As I sit here thinking about it, maybe opening the box and learning how to operate the machine will be my reward for getting my house organized to my satisfaction. I do not feel like taking on something which is most likely going to be very challenging for me while I am in the middle of something as major as downsizing my belongings.

It looks like this is the place to be if I have machine questions which was really what frustrated me the most about sewing. So.....that is my aim. It might even be fun for me.

Morning, didn't get enough sleep last night so I'm moving at a slow pace..no freezing rain as yet, must check the weather before setting out to Meaford..no fun if you hvae to worry about the road conditions..

Although I know I'll enjoy my day out with the girls I wouldn't be upset if we didn't go..just too tired and tummy queazy..I used to say I had a feeling in the bottom of my tummy that something is wrong or is going to happen..better get that out of my mind...only good thoughts today..lol

My 2 sons, brother Mike and Cousin Larry all dropped in for a visit..they had been snowmobiling since early morning..Larry had never been so they took him to the ice caves on Georgian Bay..Jeff took pictures and says he'll e-mail them to me..when he does I'll post..Larry was overwhelmed by the beauty and enjoyed his day tremendously..city fold he says are missing much..lol

I've my stained glass set out on the table, pieces cut just waiting to be a treasure..not sure how I feel about having a big piece hanging in the front window, might take away from the view, but I'll try it, could always put it in my bedroom..choices...

Well I don't feel much different adding a 'decade' to my life today..nothings changed..so here's to the next '10'..

Laura, needles make a big difference...change them often..don't mean every time you sew ..you must judge just how much usage and go from there..now we are excited to see your 1st project...if I don't go out today or if it's still light when I get home I'll venture to the back storage to get sewing patterns as promised...with Friday and yesterday's snow, I didn't attempt to do it..

Ruby, thanks for the passage..it's so true, these children are on 'loan'..somewhere when my girlfriend Liz lost her 8 year old daughter to a blood disorter I found the most loving poem..will have to go in search of it..

Shar, no reason you can't visit with us once or twice..easy to get access to a Library (smile) but am sure DD can provide you access with computer..so we're waiting..

Carol, you'll be gone as well, we sure will miss you..what's in your plans for today..

Cat, thanks!

Any new puppies walking around????? waiting for photo's

Gita will e-mail, nope don't receive them but am sure they'd be excellent reading..

Better get myself presentable just in case I'm going out..must program my GPS..lol

Happy Birthday Betty!

It's so exciting to find out who everyone's secret pals were. I had my suspicions that mine might be Liz. I figured that a funky scarf like that had to have come from someone funky and the first person I thought of was Liz (that's a compliment).

It's weird to hear everyone talk of spring. It gets me thinking of it too even though my favourite part of winter is still to come. March is really nice here. The river is still frozen so we can get off the island easily but the weather is usually mild enough that we don't feel like just staying inside. It's usually in March that we have a lot of our winter picnics on one of the neighbouring islands. We make a fire and have foil dinners. We've found that if it's below -5 celcius the kids get really cold and miserable by the end though so we can only go when the weather is right. My parents and two neices will be coming up this coming Friday for the March Break so I'm excited about that. Sonora has also gotten in contact with one of her friends from here who moved away a couple of years ago. Her friend is probably going to visit for part of the March Break too so it will be a fun and busy week.

Ella is sick right now, she's all stuffed up. She still nurses quite a bit though and her stuffed up nose is making that difficult. I think I have mastitis now too so I'm a bit uncomfortable and achy. I told DH last night that I was going to sleep in the living room (we put an extra mattress on the floor) and he could sleep with her in the bedroom. When she's sick she distrupts my sleep a lot if I'm there. It worked pretty well, of course, now I'm up and DH is still in bed. I got a good sleep though so I'm feeling much better today than I was yesterday. If I wasn't feeling better I would have gone to the hospital for some antibiotics but I'd rather heal with good rest. I had Sonora and Ian join me on the bed in the living room too so I think they liked that. It's always a really big treat to sleep with mom.

Well I'm off to get some breakfast now. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Just a note,
got up yesterday really sick, major headache and tightness in chest.

I spent yesterday in bed, slept most of the day.

Same for today, I can't breath deeply and have terrible headache.

So I cancelled my flight to Florida, I just simply cant go feeling like this.

I will go to my doctor tomorrow.

I can go to Florida another time.

Happy Birthday Betty.

I'll be back when I can see light at the end of this tunnel.
