I knew it would get your attention, Kim! LOL :o)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Have you sent Dave a Dmail on this? I think it is a great idea as I know there are MANY of us that love Tropicals!!! :o)

Louisville, KY

Really! Did you find it local? It's been a great plant for me in my garden displays. I have been working on breeding a whole lot more new stuff. I am flying out Thursday to a large nursery, they are interested in my hybrids and will probably help introduce all my work and get me royalties so I can keep doing more and more. I hope the deal works out it looks promising so far. I have a whole lot of new colocasia hybrids that so far have been surviving zone6. They now have colors on the leaves and stems and should make great companions to things like Musa basjoo.

This is the best snow day ever!!...early weekend.. hardy tropical forumn woo hooo! :*)

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Not caring if I look dumb: What is a hardy tropical? Seems like a contradiction in terms, so I'm not understanding. :-)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Actually Traci(pupilpropogtr) sent it to me from Alabama! :o) A guy had ordered several different kinds and I chose 4 different ones, with yours being one of them! :o) I would love to check out more if you have pics!!! :) AND I have a Musa to go with it!!! LOL Actually I have two of them. :) So you think this would survive here if I left it out then???

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I'd be spending time here, too!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

There are actually more Tropicals that are "hardy" than most think, which is why there are so many of us willing to 'push our zones'! LOL :o) Look at Tropicman and what he has been able to do where he is, it is amazing! And he is my inspiration, too!!!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I want one too!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey Joyce! I hope the other girls make their way over here as well! :o)
Come one Joan, Beckie, and the rest of ya all!!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Kim, when mine is big enough I will send you a start off of mine, but right now it is still a baby. :o)

Corning, NY(Zone 5a)

Would LOVE to see a Hardy Tropical forum!

Looked for a Banana forum to post my Musa Basjoo question to, but we don't have one, so an all around HT forum would be great, Thanks for kicking this ball out to Dave.:)Anita

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I have been trying to post in a lot of places, but don't wanna make anyone mad at me for hijacking! LOL Maybe if everyone will post a link to this in threads they visit we will help in getting the forum set up!!! :o)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I bet you I have plugged this in at least 15 other threads! :o)

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Tammie! I had to go shovel the walk :(

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Here is a pic of the Brian Williams Elephant Ear. :o)
And that is my Musa Basjoo hiding behind it. :)

Kim, that is what kids are for! LOL
My Son is out there with the salt and the shovel! :o)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

this could be a useful forum to me as well.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Lucky you! Our children are grown and have there own snow to shovel lol.
You got some cute lil babies growing there. :)

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok, I'm here to take a look-see. Hardy tropicals are a wonderful
idea. I didn't know they were being developed. I am in a southern
zone, and had ordered some seeds from Top Tropicals and
Seedman, just to see what they looked like, and if I could get
them to a decent size if weather permitted for a long enough
time frame. Since I am not an experienced-experienced
gardener, I had luck with just a few. There's hope for me yet! :o)

may princess tammy have a green thunb.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks! :o)
The one to the right I am not sure what it is even. I got it from the family of our Dear Shirley that past away right after Thanksgiving. I had another potted plant hanging above it and it fell on top of it, which is why it looks so pitiful! :(

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL Joan! :o)

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

sounds like a good idea from here

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

LOVE, LOVE the idea! Yep, Love my Brian Williams as well. I got it from a wonderful DGer, Shadowpaige, who happens to be a big fan of yours, Brian. He is a fan of all EE's (I would say obsessive, but aren't we all?). Gotta run tell him about this thread as he will trip over his feet trying to get the new hybrids.

I'll see if I can get some other folks to take a look here as well. In the mid south forum, there are a lot of "zone pushers", me being one of them. :o)

Traci

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Yes Pupilpropogtr is right I love me some EE's. Hope to have twenty or thirty (kinds) before the summers over. I think this would be a good tread that I would watch and put in my two cents.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I knew Traci would show up here! :o)

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Misty, I'm actually from Mo. I just moved to Al in May. I lived in St. Joseph, MO for about 10 years.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey that is cool, Shadow! :o) How is the weather there compared to here? You were close to KC there, right?

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

You have my most enthusiastic vote in favour of a Hardy Tropical forum. This would be incredibly useful to me and many other people that I know.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I think this is a wonderful idea. I would love to get some EE going this year.

This yard is a mess and I need to get it into shape and hardies around my pool would look fantastic.Brian I have seen some of your pictures of your plants and I must say they are to die for. Where can I get some of your bulbs.

Louisville, KY

I am currently growing right around 88 different colocasias out of them. I have found 4 forms that have been hardy here if slightly mulched some seem hardy even if not mulched once established. The year before last I breed around 50,000 seeds using these and other colocasias I lost a huge number of the seeds to rot and poor conditions. I have over a thousand or so new hybrids growing now. This loss has made we want to move further south more than ever. My plan is to work down south on hardy tropical plants for up north.

Coloful winter hardy Colocasias how could anyone go wrong with that?
