What's In A Name

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's interesting, Weeze. I'm still wondering about Sherrie's 47 scores much more than the slurring.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm wondering how Victor always manages to remember everyone's real name, all the time. He's like a salesman. I bet he has a cheat sheet. ;>)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Can't remember my own, though.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Your initials are V. C. - I think.

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Shickenlady, too funny!

Who knew you could combine gardening with WoW? I know there are people that have met and married thru that thing.

Victor, I think that's really remarkable that your son has no interest in video games. I mean, Atari's 'Pong' was pretty riveting when I was growing up, so it's amazing to me that with the technology kids have these days, that they get any real exercise at all. And yeah, my husband is pretty addicted to his Xbox as well. Of course, I can't really throw stones in my glass house here because I don't know how I'd ever get by without my computer and internet!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Well I do expect that to change at some point. But I grew up in the video game era and never got into it. I remember Pong when I was a young kid.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

OMG! I have images of DD meeting some guy on WoW and the 2 of them never amounting to anything 'cause they're spending all their time playing . . .

When I joined DG, my son and his dog were visiting us at the farm for my birthday weekend. I was looking around for a name, and about that time, Donnie, my son's dog, jumped up onto my lap; he then spotted a squirrel and he flew down and got our dog, Molly, jumping around and barking with him at the squirrel.......hence, it was a "Donniebrook" with license in the spelling of it! Donnie's "real" name is Donovan....my son is a Philadelphia Eagles fan! LOL Great thread, Sue.....many questions answered!!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Victor, you have a point there. That would put Sherrie at about 950 years old?? Schicken....your secrets to longevity please

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

In regard to people recognizing the plant themed names...I have a warlock..lol...who's name is Aconitum...I've actually had another gamer quote me the following:

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

It was there somewhere, tried to google it, but couldn't find it.
The original Werewolf movie, circa 70's, I believe...had a quote in it, about wolfsbane.
I've had this particular quote recited to me on several occasions.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Now that's funny! Kinda coool that you meet people who recognize the wolfbane name :-)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Hey, Sherrie, did you know that "schicken" is a German word, also? It means "to send" - abschicken.

So with your last name meaning flower, it can mean "to send a flower"! Or, "lady sends"!

Not German. I am a Canuck. Fleury - lefleur is flower in French. Fleur de Lis is the official Quebec flag. Quebec is my family heritage. Other then getting drunk, slurring and wanting a piece of sssschicken.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Sherrie,

Sue means if you combine all your names, you can think of it as sending flowers off, or schicken fleurs ab! In a kind of virtual, tri-lingual, user-lingual way that only we, your real friends, will ever hope to understand.

xx, Carrie

I guess I am not that smart. I do understand now.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Nothing to do with smart! I have two DDs - one almost flunked out of HS, the other comes home with all As. They're both smart.

I am my father's 47th son named Dave

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Of course you are! Your father was an active man :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What is the significance of 47 Dave?? There could not have been 46 others on DG before you!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Victor - see Dave47 post above :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I saw that - I mean for real.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

47 is just a number that used to come up all the time (address, telephone, soc. sec. #) I knew i couldn't be just Dave 'cause that was taken.

Funny thing is, I'm more a David than a Dave, but the website influenced me.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll use David, if you prefer that. Why did you not use it in your screen name?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Because I was on Dave's Garden. Sort of a fame by association thing. ;^)

But I'm not fussy about Dave or David.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How about just Dav??

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

David works for me if it works for you :-) Personally, I prefer David to Dave, Michael to Mike etc.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Michaela to???

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Let's be frank & earnest. I'll be Frank, you be Ernest.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

the importance of being earnest.

I am terrible at coming up with names for online stuff. I figured it was easy to use my name LOL I shouldn't forget that one now, right? hehehe

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Dawn, Where does LL come from? Is it like LL Cool J?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Dawn:

I'm with you. Some days it's hard enough to remember my OWN name, much less a made-up-for-screen-name!! I figure if I see it enough in big blue letters, then I remember who I am.

Although .... I have used the screen name 'matriarch2many' on several occasions lately.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

hhmmm... She who must be obeyed?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Naw ....
But it's a wonderful thought! If only they would!!

Just read the interesting posts!! I have a few minutes to myself so I decided to read a thread I hadn't read before. I'm grammyphoeb cause I'm a grandmother of my 22 month old grandson and Phoebe is my nickname given to me by friends at church. Why did they give me that nickname - I play the piano for church musical shows and that was my character name. I refused to get on the stage and they always wanted me to be a part of the cast so they always wrote a part in for the piano player to do something funny during the show!! I could usually come up with the stuff by myself. One year two of the cast were fishing off the edge of the stage by the piano. After several rehearsals of having fishing line dangling by the piano I made paper fish and attached them to the string with paper clips! You had to be there to see the look on their faces when they actually pulled something in. They were so busy with their lines and acting they didn't see me attach the fish!! Our shows were a fun winter activity when there wasn't much else going on. We aren't doing one this year cause Easter is so early and that's about the time we have our show. Eleanor
