What's In A Name

I had started a thread on the Cottage Garden Forum about Old-Fashioned Names for Flowers. In other words, flower nicknames.

So, it got me thinking - how did we all come up with our DG member names?

Mine is obvious - I love primroses!

I chose mine because we always seem to be having Nor'Easters here...and there was a really big one the year I signed up on DG, so it was sort of fresh in my mind. I'm terrible at coming up with forum usernames.

I love bells of ireland too, and used them in my wedding flowers.

Sue, no, not the "perfect storm"...just a big old blizzard about this time a few years ago. We do get a lot of 'em.

and in my late teens, i was involved with someone who was really into crystals. Amethyst is the stone of clarity, awareness, and stability. He gave me an amethyst, and for years i carried one with me everywhere i went. It's a name/identity that has stayed with me on and off though the years...

SM =
stage manager, what i do in theatre. (Also a job which requires clarity and stability.)

So it is sort of a combination of what i am and what i aspire to be.

And when i've combined the two to use online, the name has been free..!

I always felt like I had a lisp when I tried to pronounce it.

Mine's from Sofonisba Anguissola, a 16th century woman painter from Italy.

It isn't like "pithy statement" or "Athol, MA", the 1st of which has made me giggle for years, the 2nd i just found thanks to Carrie...

oops - xposted. Now Harper's ID is hard (for me) to figure out how to pronounce. So is Michaela's.

onewish1 came from ... the first year of aol opening.... i couldn't get a name to work.... how ever lame it may seem now.. that was my onewish that day... and I just stuck with it

Thanks Allison. I find Sofonisba pretty easy to pronounce. I am sure I would have been more creative with my name but I was in a rush to join because I had used up all the free PF searches!

i guess i should have put a - or a _ in between.
in my email it is amethystSM - i'm not sure why i didn't do that here. Would that make it easier?

i think i remember you explaining that in the past - before that, i thought it was an Asian word or name...

Right now in my aim buddy list, there is one other person online whose ID ends with SM, and another ending with LD (lighting designer). But i know other examples of each...

Yes, Sue. I remember her from when I took my Women in Art History class in Art School. I like her work and her name. Besides, too many people used Artemesia's name, so I picked a lesser known artist.
