Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - Sprng Training

That pic was a rat, for sure!

Nancy

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Dunno, Harper, but I found a (dead) very large one in my yard last summer and thought it was a rat. When I heard how big mice get, I just figured it was one.

Nancy - I LOVE your garden!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, Nancy! How long does it take to water??

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

wow! That is beautiful!
It reminds me of a friend's place in Brooklyn - theirs doesn't look nearly so nice, though! That is a lot of garden packed into your space.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Just curious, Nancy, how did you get that picture taken?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i'm guessing 3rd floor window?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

On the way down?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great garden, Nancy!

Thanks for the slug + scissors. I've added it to my collection. I agree slugs are more revolting.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Slugs are the worst.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

What a gorgeous garden Nancy!! I'd love to visit you sometime this spring when things thaw out. Do you need any help? I drive down to Yonkers all the time.

Harper

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Leave your rat home though.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

And Harper answered, "Rats!".

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

My son is in the shower now. I look forward to these showers for many reasons. Most of all, he smells a lot better, but not far behind, he sings! He really hams it up, too. He's got me laughing in stitches!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My brother was the same. He was horrible! Dogs in the neighborhood would howl. And he took real long showers to increase the torture.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I've recorded him sometimes. I just wish I had thought to put the recorder in there tonight. I think it's his best show ever!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

So who is interested in this DG auction business? I have seen posts on those threads from Celeste, Sherrie and Lee Ann. Anyone else interested? I have no interest in selling but might buy once reputations are established and if the quality and price are good.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I haven't checked it out yet. I'm not much into ebay, but I think it's because I don't like the format. Dave's Garden is one of the best formatted websites I've come across. Maybe I should post this in the auction forum...

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ugh. The auction forum is huge already and it sounds like Dave is gonna go ahead with it. Yeah, I think I'd be into the DG auction business. I don't think I have anything to sell either... maybe I will down the line.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes he already has a seller test going on. When does Dave sleep??

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

That's a good question!

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone!

Victor - It takes me just a little over an hour to water everything. I used to have one hose but it got to be a pain dragging it around the pots. You can't tell in the pic, but there's a path that circles the area where the vine pole is located. If you look at this shot, taken 2 months earlier (June 2), you can see the arrangement of the pots & the paths. At that point, there are 167 pots! Now I have 2 hoses... actually 3. One hung by the back doot (not in the pic, but it's the lower left) Another hose runs up the right side, in front of the pots along the fence. You can see some of it behind the bench in the back. I have a coiled hose attached to it next to the bench. It makes watering a lot easier - and faster.

PrimroseSue - I took the shot from my bedroom window (2nd flr). I take a picture every Saturday morning so I can see how it changes.
You can see the 2007 series here-

It's cool if you view as a slideshow. I have a little "Scuba Cat" sculpture that I place in a different place for each pic. It's my own version of "Where's Waldo".

Harper - I don't really need help, but you're more than welcome to come by some time to check it out. I'll be starting it later this year because I'll be away the last week of May when I usually plant.

In Sept 2006 I "inherited" about 20 pots (all perennials) when a friend moved from NYC to CA. I ended up dividing a bunch of them when I was setting things out in 2007. The 20 pots became 30.

Such a lovely slideshow. I sat here sipping my coffee and dreaming of spring and summer. Thanks, Nancy.

Edited to add: did you see this co-op for "hangapot"? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/813423/#new

141 replies in 2 days? I'm not really that far behind.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very cool, Nancy! I did see the slide show. Wow.

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Glad you enjoyed the show.

Pirl - I like the hang-a-pot idea. I don't think I'll go that route because they are apparently only for terra cotta pots. All the pots in my yard are either plastic or fiberglass.
I like clay pots, but after losing a few because of freezing, I decided not to use them. I don't have any place to store them over the winter so plastic works best for me.
They hold up well. I've had some of them for 10 years - from when I first moved in.

Nancy - someone on that thread will be showing photos of how the hangapot holds plastic pots. She'll take the photos this weekend. Just thought you'd want to know since others mentioned the same thing.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nancy that was a great slide show and amazing to watch all your plants grow.

Plugs are teeny though, right?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm not sure Victor, I have only done bulb co-ops so far and one Caladium last year.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Yes, plugs are small - it's not like you're getting a 3" pot or such.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Oh, BTW, Happy Red Sox Spring Training Day!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Victor, plugs are very tiny and with all co-ops people should be ordering enough to warrant the postage or there's no bargain to be had.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Nancy, I loved your slideshow! Gorgeous! I can't wait to visit. When is Spring coming?

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Spring?
After that mess on Tuesday and what might hit us on Sunday....
I think Spring will show up sometime mid-August.

:o/

Nancy

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Stuff is coming on Sunday?

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

no no no.
Though they keep changing the forecast. The latest has no snow till like Tuesday.
Eric is flying back from FL on Sunday and then driving home from Hartford.
It will NOT be bad weather.

My DH called me DITZY. The prints was the dog. Yes the dog did the jumps 10 feet. I had to suck it up.

We got a new puppy yesterday - from the humane society - a boxer mix. Her name is Bella Marie. She was already named Bella, and I added Marie for my friend who helped us get her. She is so good. She has been in a foster home and with people constantly. She doesn't like being alone, I think today will be her first time, I'm working all day, and DH will be gone 6 hours.
