So you thought there was a floor show with the dinner?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, but they left me hanging...

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Where is it?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The restaurant is in Tappan, NY.

That's cool, Victor.
I ate at Frankenstein's castle once. Really did - it's actually Mary Shelley's castle in Germany turned into a restaurant. I had trout.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool - did they cook it in the lightning bolts??

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

How did you know? Have you been there, too?

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

A simular Frozen People thingy was done Feb 16 this year in Trafalgar Square.
I don't know how many people, but it looks like more than the 200 in GCT.

Really enjoyable. Thanks again, Nancy.

Interesting article about getting kids off their butts and back to nature.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Victor - tanks for posting the article - I linked to it over on the PNW forum.
My guess is that there are no dg'ers that run a nature-deficit. Truly, we are addicts, through & through...
It is something that we have noticed over the past 15 years or so - the kids are locked into their electronic "information portals", and don't have the experience of self-entertainment, particularly out of doors.

So very opposite of when I was a kid - but, back then we thought black & white TV was fabulous!
I suppose if I was growing up these days, I would want the electronica, too. But my Mom would still point us outside & tell us play hard, breathe fresh air and to come in when it got dark.
Gotta love my Mom - she was soooo right.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We were all such sports freaks when I was a kid. We virtually ignored the video game craze. I hope we would have done the same today.

Since this is the scat thread I'd like to remind everyone about the co-op's going on for cow pots, hangapot holders, Watersorb crystals, begonias, perennials and more.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Pirl.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hi all. I'm back among the living after almost 3 weeks of what turned out to be the flu. Ugh is all I can say. Today is my first day really up and about, and I got out and planted some of the caladiums from the co-op Pirl told us about. Thanks again, Pirl....those caladiums and the EEs I got are just terrific. I hope they come up before we head back in early May.

Sharon - if you're lurking (as I did a little bit when I just didn't feel like typing), I hope you are getting over the flu as well. Dear Victor checked in to see if I was ok, and he told me that you too have the flu. Hope you feel better very soon!

Patti - if you are reading this thread, please know how sorry I am to have missed our walk while you were down here........next year for sure!! Did you have a good trip to Sanibel?

I hope everyone is well........With daylight savings time coming, I'm sure you are all thrilled to see Spring on the way!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Get well soon, Sharon!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yep, lurking for the first time in a while.....thanks, guys.....trust me, don't get this stuff.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good to see you posting again.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Where's Gloria been hiding??

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Gloria's sister is visiting this week.

And thanks, Pirl, today is the first day I could hold my eyes open.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Hope day two is even better.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Glad to see you among the living Sharran and Louise.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Pirl and Harper! I agree with Sharon.......do anything you can to avoid getting this!!! At least Sharon kept her sense of humor......mine went away for awhile.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

So glad to see you 2 back and posting, you've been missed!!

Greensboro, AL

gloria

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks so much, Celeste! I sure have missed being a part of it all!

Gloria......how are you doing now????

Greensboro, AL

DonnieBrook: I didn't get sick. I believe in antioxidants!

I have been working on my 1930s plumbing with my BIL. Still working on it.

Its amazing how stuck up something can get after 78 years. But the
really amazing thing is if you do it right and dont cross thread or break any parts --- it still works!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

So glad to hear you are well and working hard, Gloria! Keep those AO's coming!! LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gloria the plumber! At least you can remove the problem. Can't do that with stuck up people!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Stuck up people aren't allowed here, are they, Victor??????

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Let's hope not!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Somehow, picking up this thread right after reading a couple others about people in the hospital gave me so the wrong idea.
Or maybe it's the cold medicine.

Greensboro, AL

Ive found that you can crack the ice with stuck-up people (if you want to) by telling them they have spinach on their teeth, or alternatively (if appropriate) you can tell them that their zipper is unzipped.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What about spinach on their zipper?

Greensboro, AL

That might work on a hard case.

I remember an interview with General Eisenhower when he was running for president.

Q. How do you manage to maintain your confidence speaking to thousands of people everyday. I know you are such a shy person.

G.E. No problem. I just imagine that they are all naked. It gives me an amazing amount of self confidence.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I heard a psychologist say that about speaking in public but the only chance (ever) I had to try it was when I was giving the eulogy for my namesake, the real PIRL, and somehow it doesn't work that well in a church. It was almost amusing to imagine all these naked people sitting there listening to me in church.

Greensboro, AL

Actually I have found myself speaking (usually presenting a technical lecture) before a fairly large group--but they were students. Usually the subject matter was cutting edge information and they had access to the same journal articles under discussion.

To me this has been one of the peak experiences of my life --to take a group of students into a research frontier where they learn concepts that will be with them the rest of their lives.

You know you can't un-educate a kid once they have been there.

And a profound learning experience will un-stick just about any stuck up person.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's the people who happily and willingly choose to remain ignorant, despite the best efforts of others, who annoy me greatly.
