Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #30 visit with friends...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Forgot to say great idea about the 'snowflakes'..not even Easter and you're thinking Christmas..lol..

At least I'm think Mother's Day...not as far away..

I'm posting Liz the photo of the butterflies (not finished) but if you look closely you'll see they are reversed color..when you use the saw and cut up 2 sides the leftover pieces which are already cut can be used for a 2nd one..so 2 for the price of one...the lead also has to have patina to change it color... should be done this aft. will post next step..if you look at my last photo on it you will see flat sheet glass so I've done well since last night...lol..sore finger and all...

All others yet to come, have a great day...please do tell me what is in your plans for today..my life is sooo boring..lol

just beautiful colors now how long would this take to hand cut?
no 4 am is my regular time to get up lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Depends Liz how quickly you work and for how long..doing it by hand you purchase glue stick, cut the pattern out and glue the paper pieces to the glass..give you a better idea as to size..no critical with butterflies, but you do need a grinder to smooth edges..isn't there something coming up that you can ask for a 'special' gift..lol or a 'gift' just because...

That's one thing about being alone, if I want a gift, well I just go buy it...hmmm trade off I guess!

Off to get groceries..

Pacifica, CA

i have the grinder but i dont dare ask for another peice of machinery we cant move i have to seriously have a garage sale and get rid of alot of things then maby i can ask so it will have to be hand cuts for now :)

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
It is snowing again!

I am way behind..now where did I leave off...
Laura..I went to look at the cabin site..romantic looking bed.....lovely gift..how generous of your DD.

A few friends and I are going to have dinner and go to the casino next week..I limit myself to $25.00..it is just for a social evening.

Now Betty....remember that photos show the garden off better than in real life. I will be happy to divide a few plants for your "Friends" garden. Need to get you some more hostas..you have shade from your large trees there I see.
I have several plants that have been given me from friends..and I think of them as I wander in the garden.

Seed..wonderful gift of a new cell phone..and red to boot! Nice hubby..and Happy Birthday Girl!

Gotta to go ..talk later..
waving to all of you.............

Good Morning,

Betty hope you get all the goodies you need and Want! Takes me forever, decide on things, lol once I get to store...eyes see everything and then mind changes as if i never made a list,,,hahahI am a lost cause. Oh my gosh what Lovely lovey butterflies! You are amazing.
Didn't you just start them?? Oh i love your friendship Garden, sounds so pretty...will have to see what i can add to your garden.

Thank you all about my b,day...See I do celebrate everyday. Yep Betty, lol it's the one month I don't feel weird about getting gifts.
So, got the c-phome completely charged...reading directions book completely...hahah, first thing was how to turn the dang thing ON.
Best part about the whole thing is it has a built in CAMERA!!! How exciting is that. LOL on my to gab, pouting DH took care of that, We have Verison and it has a package all Verizon phones are free...in coming calls free, I can call any other phone after 9P>M> But Friday night to Sunday night is free. I get unlimited text msg...OMG, forgot what else. So I said well calling anyone will be out of question...My friends are all over the time frame...LOL but CA is only 7 at my 9 time...I said so how the heck can i talk to my firends while they are still up? He laughed and said we still have the land phone! Then the messaging...It takes me an hour to type my posts, ROFL I am suppost to t msg,,,mise well just call!! But I can take all the pictures i want any time anywhere...Big cheesy smile.

Rachel, Glad to hear your feeling better...Cat, sneaky is dangerously fun huh?

Ok...Well my day is oh sooo much fun...Laundry day! in between going to try a figure out phone. And there are a ton of shows, i got to catch up on....Oh by the way enjoyed reading how you spend your days...

Have a good fun day...See you at a break time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just had lunch with Cliff and Bernice, so nice not to have to cook, cough/cough..imagine, me who doesn't cook!

Finished the butterflies, was going to keep one but did then differently, wings wide, wings closed etc. love the little legs I put on them..lol..so will give the set to mom for Mothers' Day..bought another body and ordered 3 more..will do a set for myself to hang in kitchen window more suitable to my colors...

So it's either nap time or do the little clock door, (sitting next to butterflies in the photo) can't decided..

Snowing like crazy again today and calling for same tomorrow so just maybe I ought to do the clock that way I won't feel so guilty when Cliff comes over to do the back area..method to my madness..

As soon Carol as the nice weather comes, I'm going to visit you..no doubt your garden is beautiful..I often cross the road to see Bernice's, like sitting in heaven..she always laughs because I say I want one today like hers and she reminds me her garden is about 10 years old...so, more years to come..I'm too impatient...who would have guessed that...

Judy, can imagine the pictures you'll take with telephone..too high tech for me..I've a regular cel..DS Jeff gave me high tech one but it sits in the cupboard..

Liz..only things you need to do stain glass all and all is the grinder and glass cutter and good cork backed ruler for no slipping..the rest, pick up here and there...I would recommend though the 'grid' cutting board..it's made of plastic and all the glass chards from cutting fall into the cubicles that way less cuts...

So here are my butterflies, still have to solder chair to them for hanging then in a box they go...

Carol..isn't it funny..keep putting out bird seed but never seen to attract BlueJays..wonder why?? perhaps it's the wrong type of food...

Another 4 pieces to cut for the clock window..never knew there was so many clear but patterned glass..need one more large piece so going digging...

Never think of cooking pork roast..sounds wonderful and I do love pork sandwiches..perhaps I'll make it tomorrow..settled in for the day now..and..it's snowing heavily!!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Little guy is trying to nap so he can go grocerying with me. He likes to do that, thinks he's helping me choose. I always tell him what we are looking for, yogurt, juice, whatever, and when we get to that aisle, I let him choose. That way he never asks for anything extra. And since we don't do sweets, except a graham cracker or something similar, he is fun at the grocery store. Oh..I don't mean he doesn't eat junk food, I just mean that when we go grocery shopping, he doesn't scream and yell for goodies. We do manage to get M&M's, and we each get 4 at a time for special moments. I am a very organized Nana....it works well this way. He knows what to expect and I don't have a whiny or hyper little guy on my hands.

Now telling stories at bedtime, that doesn't count...we tell stories and sing for hours sometimes...mixed in with giggles....why not? Being with Nana is not routine, so it should have some special moments.

Carol, that is a wonderful photo....love the blue! Amazing moment and you caught it.

Rachie, I have not had time to write you, but please be well...

Later, ladies....the little guy is ready to go.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty..
the only seed I put out is black oil sunflower seed.
and suet from time to time.

Even the small birds like the black oil sunflower seeds.

Sharon..your time with Ethan sounds so sweet ...enjoy it..they grow up fast.

shar, have a wonderful weekend with ethan

hello to all hope your weekend is good

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Evening All,

Betty, BEAUTIFUL butterflies! I have collected some window ornaments like that. I have 3 dragonflies, a butterfly (not anywhere as pretty as yours!), a sunflower and some grapes! I just love hanging them all in the window over my sink!

So my parents are coming up but not until Monday morning which is ok w/ me cause now I don't have to clean upstairs or change the sheets on the guest bed!!!! :)

Carol, I only put out oils too and suet in the winter. Has the price of your sunflower oils gone way up for you? Ours have and I was told it's because farmers are growing less sunflowers and more corn to supply companies who make ethynol. So the price has skyrocketed for sunflower seed. Anyway, I will always feed my birds!

I had a busy day today. Ran around with DH & DS gathering stuff for DS's science fair project. We went by Lowes and I bought 100' of decorative green wire fencing to put around my flower beds. That cost a whopping $100 and DH just rolled his eyes and said the dog was coating us more and more! Oh well, my gardening and the fencing is cheaper then a therapist! So I was out later this afternoon filling in the holes and evening the bed back out where Murphy had dug and I look up and that little piss-ant (Murphy) has come up and grabbed one of the empty plastic mulch bags. First off, I did not have him out with me just for this reason, but DS let him out. So I gather up the rest of the bags and trash and throw it away and go after the dog. Well in the 60 seconds he had the bag, he has shredded it and there are little plastic pieces around the backyard. So I start picking it up and I bend down to get a piece and jumps up to get what I already have in my hand and WHAM! His head connects with my upper cheek bone and I saw stars! Of course by now he's totally out of control, jumping on my every which way. I tried a "Cesar Millan" on him by forcing him down to the ground in a submissive position and that just makes him crazier. He just wants to play and I want to cry! I finally get the bag away from him and by now I AM crying cause my cheek hurts and I go in the garage where DH & DS are building their project and I ball my eyes out. So I calm down and DH gets the dog in the house and I go out to finish my work. I come into the house and guess what? I have a nice bruise under my right eye! I'm going to tell everyone 'you should see my husband'! ARGH!!! I bet it will be pretty tomorrow!!

So prior to my backyard escapade, I finished my wall-hanging quilt top. Here it is.....

Oh Garden I feel for you, I just had this discussion w/ my friend Myra today. I said, thank God puppies are so cute or you'd kill them. I said when Koala dies, I will want another dog, Greg wants a puppy but I swear every time I have one, I am po'd all the time and crying and saying NEVER AGAIN. Poor thing.

Love that star quilt. love the colors too.

Also the stained glass too. Just screamed into Greg that I will learn to do both before I die.

Laura that does suck about Gunner, he would have loved something from Oz. Do you talk to Kell much? I miss him.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh, GG......I do love that quilt.

Just poppin in to tell you good night.....
You all have a good tomorrow.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Betty I love your butterflies! Do you do dragonflies? I also have a kitchen window full of stained glass. One reason is so the birds don't hit the livingroom window thinking they can fly thru! Some still do and it breaks my heart! So again! We are getting those terrible winds but the temp hasn't dropped as low as they said yet. When it does I hope the wind dies down.

Liz how cute are those? Can hardly wait to see that part of your garden in bloom. Garage sale! Yes I need to do one of those too this spring. Have to remind DH. At work the in door kept blowing open the winds are so strong! We said it was the ghosts coming to visit! Well if they are there will be so many they can have a party! LOL

sharran I keep telling my Girlfriends that have GK and do lots with them that those kids will have the best memories! My friends oldest GS moved in with her and they are all so happy about it. Her DD needs a good kick in the bu--!

To the Birdfeeders out there Bluejays also love cat or dog food! Good way to feed what they won't eat instead of throwing it out.

Starzz everytime I see one of your pictures makes me rethink where my feeder is. I'd love to get a couple of pictures like that.

Seed have fun with that phone. What a great way to celebrate your B-day. Wish I had thought of that when I was younger. A tad late to start now. LOL!

Ouch Garden! Gotta love them! Do you have a picture of the fencing yet?

Yesterday we went and got a Dog from a shelter. Ty needs a playmate and I've wanted another dog. He is half the size of Ty at 34 lbs. Pure black with a collie face. They think he is a border collie-mix. 1-2 years old. Doesn't bark-doesn't know how to play-but is a great leg lifter! He needs that certain operation. LOL Not sure if he is right for us. But we have a couple of days to decide yet.

So that is the worst and the best for yesterday.

What did I learn: DH is a secret softie at heart. It always surprises me when I see it.

Here are the boys when we got home.

Thumbnail by ves522
Victoria Harbour, ON

Wake and shine everyone! It's a snowy stormy Sunday morning but having the boys makes my day brighter...had loads of fun last night and didn't get to bed until 12:30 thus sleeping in till 7..lol

Not sure what time they'll be going home, they are sleeping but the animals are making enough racket at their door that I'm sure they'll be up shortly...

What to do today? Absolutely have no idea..not a day to go out so must think of something...

Jeannine, wow Murphy sure is a handful..not funny but you know what everyone will think with your eye?? serves DH right for not dogsitting while you garden .. absolutely love your quilt top..think is I could find the proper batting I might machine quilt the watercolor lap top quilt I have..should check my materials..not goint out for anything today...

Shar what did you and Ethan get up to last night? guess it's homeward bound for him today..

Dawn, don't procrastinate..pick up a few materials and get at it lol..did you finish painting the outside of the house and trim..guess that took much of your time..

Well off to get a coffee and a few garden books to browse through while waiting for the boys to get up..

Wonder why we were up so late??? take a look at their variety store bundle..of course Grandma had to spoil them with treats..Grandma even got a bag...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Vicki they are gorgeous...Border Collie's are such smart dogs..give him a few days..am sure he'll warm your heart..out of the pupppy stage now and probably very nervous..know when I got Sailor at age of 3 she shunned everytime you spoke to her..took years before she'd even let a man near her..but, she's a softy now..loves everyone..was abused so a lot of spoiling is needed..looks like they enjoy each others company???

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

well i hope today is as warm as it was yesterday, dh and i got the biggest kick out of the little sparrow who was determined to pull out all the old nesting material out of a birdhouse i have near the frount door and put in new such a determined little bird i see the doves are back so hopefully i'll have a nesting visitor soon, well i should get lots done this morning with dh and his daughter going to the inlaws :)

carol, is that a bluejay? yours are much prettier than the ones we have

betty, did you have a fun visit with the boys, what are you going to work on today?i have a funny story (sorry judy) but i was yapping with judy and guess what happened her cell phone battery died lol guess we were yapping alot...
such a warm day yesterday we took the dogs to the nice park on the otheside of town it is a beautiful area the city has made into a bbq, kids area a walking trail and a fenced in water fowl area and two area's for the dogs all fenced in one side is for the little ones and a huge one for med- large dogs.
well the female loves to run run while the male he jumps on the benches and on everyones lap lol, well there were some large dogs, pits dobbies and rots as well as everyother breed now i saw a english bull dog omg they have to be the cutiest thing with their huge head their drool and the way they walk well thats all i had to see kept the owners there for a while gabbing how cute is this lol,
so its time to go well now i notice there is a couple who brought in a yorkie which i didnt understand why on this side well the dobbie saw it as a toy so it started to rough house now we were in the parking lot headed to the car and she started to yell at the dobbie owner had i still been in there i would of come to his defence, she ranted and raved on a vicious dog ect but in actuality she was in the wrong for putting her little one in danger, people never cease to amase me the poor guy was telling her this is for big dogs and he pointed to her there is for small but she didnt want to listen so he left.

jeannine, jeannine, oh you poor thing i feel for youi hope your not to bruised up this morning , he is jus a little devil dog lately oh you certainly have your hands full! but l atleast you'll have a fence around things now :) your quilt is just beautiful you did a wonderful job, always nice not to have to do any more work isnt it lol

hi shar, hope your having a busy weekend with ethan

hello to all have a wonderful weekend

Pacifica, CA

crossed with vicki and betty,

vicki, congrads on the new one just a cutie looks like there accepting each other how sweet is that face im sure things will calm down in the adjustment period awww
me to everything is so dormant now few things in bloom.

betty, no wonder you were all up late lol all that sugar lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Boys have left, Greg/Mel and boys are gone snowmobiling..asked me to go, winds blowing, cold/cold out there so opted to make the homemade soup..lol..that I surely can handle..

I've dusted the entire upstairs, done the floors, put everything that might not be in it's place, in it's place and now its time to play..

I've looked around, checked over what I'd like to do and came across that beautiful heron that needs to be finished so I can get DB to help me encase it in a copper tubing water sprinkler..so that is MY challenge for today..get the piece done - probably 2 or 3hrs at best to finish my part of it and perhaps next weekend or the next it will be finished and waiting for spring..have no idea where it will go because wherever it goes it needs water..so wish me luck..

Only thing left to do today will be to dust, wash and tidy up basement..not really anything...know it's lonely sometimes but I sure do enjoy the fact that once I clean other than dusting it stays the same...hmm some good comes from bad right?

Liz, you girls are gabby/gabby..no wonder the battery went DEAD! Can imagine you two together..what mischief you can get into..thank goodness you don't live closer...

Hi Everyone - Poor, poor Rachel. Murphy sure sounds like a hand full. I hope that he will soon settle down so that the family can enjoy him. Ves, wonderful about your new addition. It is a very pretty dog and so is the one that you have had for a while. I am a dog person. I own three. They are much enjoyment for my husband and I.

Vicki, you mentioned having the stained glass ornaments hanging in your window to deter birds from flying in to it. The same thing was happening here too. I think it was either last weekend or two weekends ago that a beautiful male caardinal hit our window really hard. I looked out and he was dayzed and sitting on the deck. I called for my hubby to come and see him. We are very fortunate to live with a half hour of a Wildlife Center who takes rescued animals and gives them the medical help they need. We put him in a box and took him there after I called The Center. They said that sometimes the birds will stay dayzed and stunned like that for up to 30 minutes to an hour and then just fly on off. It was too cold outside for me to sit and watch him that long. I was afraid he would freeze to death.

So.......we took him over and stayed in telephone contact with the center until the next afternoon when they released him. While there my hubby was given a copy of a solid black bird form to copy and put on the outside of the windows to help deter flying in to it. The form said to put 5 or 6 of them at least on the outside. In the meanwhile, I looked on line for anything that might be used for the same purpose.

I found these things called Window Alert. It is a set of static cling decals that affix to the outside of the window. It is invisible to humans but the birds can see it. I just read the package and it says that birds have twelve times better eye sight than humans. The pakage also said that millions of birds are killed annually from hitting windows.

You might want to try either the black bird form or the Window Alert if you are still having birds hit your window. I haven't hung the decals yet because I just got them one day last week, but I did hang the birds and no birds have hit the window since the cardinal.

Well, my son just left for work so I will go to his room and get his dirty laundry to wash. I also need to vacuum and possibly take a leisurely bubble bath. Hubby is supposed to fix hamburgers on the grill at dinner time. We are having high winds and I dont know if he will be able to cook outside later or not. Oh well.

Good reading about everyone's days. Will check back with you ladies soon.

Ruby

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

GG I like the fence. It's there but doesn't stand out. No distraction. Poor guy! Now for the bruise. I thought it would be worse. But I bet it still hurts. A bit of makeup will cover it pretty good. Unless you have some on or don't wear any?

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

The area Murphy is checking out is where his latest distruction had taken place. From his nose into the bed was all torn up and dug out. I have filled it back in and covered it with mulch. Now I get to go buy new perennials to plant this spring!!! Once again DH just sees dollar signs from the dog!! :)

Well today I need to do some homework for class tomorrow night and maybe I can start on a new quilt piece. Mom gave me two new kits so I washed the fabric last night. We'll see....

I'll check back with y'all later!

Jeannine

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol (sorry) yes that's a doozer! Are you and Murphy friends again??? the fencing doesn't look high, will Murphy be able to jump over to yet create more havoc??

Love to look at everyone's photo's which show your gardens today, the thick white blanket of snow starts to get to you after awhile..oh well another 5 or 6 weeks..must have patience...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

HA! no makeup yet. If I don't have to go out, I don't put any on - just moisturizer. Yes, it does hurt and what you can't see in the pic is under the skin it is slightly bruised even bigger. DH wasn't happy with my reson I was given. He'd like me to say I'd been in a bar fight! Fight with a chick messing with my man!!! LOL!!! Like we go to bars anymore!!! Maybe at Lowes ot Target!!!

Vicki - I forgot to tell you I think your new pup is adorable! Your two guys will have a blast with each other!!! Congratulations!!!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, the fencing is about 2 1/2 feet high so I'm sure Murphy could jump it if he tried but I think it will be more of a deterant. Knowing Murphy, he will probably stick his head thru, get it stuck and pull the whole thing down!!! This will also help when and if we decide to get a second puppy. Murphy's not making a good case for it yet!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Ruby,

I have a very high, slanting patio roof that is an extension of the house roof. There are also 4 big, square skylights on this roof to let light into my LR and DR where I keep all my plants during the winter. Ex-Hubby built all this and placed the 4 skylights so they would catch the sun at all times as it crossed over the sky.
Underneath, is my big, triple LR window ans well as the double DR window. I hang my bird feeders under the patio roof so that they stay dry and also the squirrels cannot get to them.
The patio has a smooth concrete floor, and I usually put some bird seed on the floor for the ground-feeders, like Doves.
Well, ANY disturbance (like me walking out there) will send the Doves flying off, many times straight up and into the skylights. I know a couple of times I have also had birds fly into my LR window. I probably have anywhere from 3-5 dead Doves a season laying on my patio. Sad--but that's life....

And, Ruby, WHY do you have to go to your grown son's room to collect his dirty laundry???? Can't he take it to the laundry room or, at least, put it in a hamper??
Don't enable his laziness!
...end of lecture...... Gita

Here's the picture I already posted once. Might illustrate what I am talking about....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow Gita, such beautiful lush greenery and such a bright room..you must sit for hours and enjoy the tranquility!!

Thought I'd make your day girls and show you what I've tried to keep alive all winter...AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG????

Stop with the laughing....and please DON'T kick me off Daves Garden...
