Good morning all! Glad to hear no one was blown away with those high winds!!!
I got up to coleus/impatiens sprouts this morning, so I am VERY excited! LOL
Stop and visit, talk all you want. pt 14
Okay. Bye!
Hey, Tammy!
Just popped back in to say how excited I am for you, Tammy. I got my two mini-greenhouses planted yesterday but two is not nearly enough. I'll have to go back and get some more. I have tons of seeds to plant. Okay, now I am really outta here!!
Hey Celia and Mau! Now I get to watch them grow, isn't that just so cool?! :)
LOL
Tammy, I have lots of stuff, too. So much fun to watch the changes every day.
These being my first with seeds, it is just so cool! I think it is probably the Coleus, but can't say for sure. The Impatiens said they take longer to germinate, but then again these sprouted in half the time as what Coleus said, too! :)
The sun came out! Yea!
Here, too! :)
We've got 8º, with a feel like temp of -8º. And guess what. This morning I went to get a glass of water and the sink pipes were frozen. This is getting ridiculous! If I even had an inkling, I'd of left water running all night long. We found out that the piping, not really piping, oh! flexible tubing that they use for the dishwasher had fallen down a huge crack between floor and wall. Not sure what that's all about, but need to get a piece of wood nailed up there to stop the flow of cold air from the basement. Our power never did go out and we didn't get but a dusting of snow. Sunny right now, but clouds moving in later. Snow for tomorrow and Fri.
Marcy, your food should be fine. We left on vacation once and when we came home, my ice maker ice was a solid block. I didn't know what the heck had happened. I walked next door and found out the power was out for 12 hours. With it being so darn cold outside and the power going out, I'd think your fridge wouldn't cool off much!
Hey Mau, you sure you can't turn on the gas and instead of an electric start, you just use a match? Like for a gas stove? I can use the top of the stove when the power is out, as long as I've got matches. And you know I've got matches☺
Tammy, isn't it too early to start annuals? Seems like they'd be pretty big (leggy) by summer? Unless that's what you're going for I guess...LOL
Hi Celia!! Stay warm today! Same for you pepper, but I know you're already at work.
Does anybody have an opinion about long hair on a woman over 40? Depend on the hair? My hair is driving me crazy and I want to cut some of it off. Too flat and the longer it gets, the more curl I lose. I can't find a good website to see any styles.
Terry, sounds like you are just having some bad luck! :(
I am starting these for house plants, not to plant outside.
O.k. then! That's a new one on me. I've not heard of anybody having impatiens or coleus as houseplants. But then again, a friend of mine in TN developed a begonia. It isn't hardy to zone 5a, it's barely hardy to zone 7a. So I have it as a house plant. Right now, it's not doing so good. I also know the guy who developed "Kong" coleus.
Hi again. yeah...everything was still frozen in the freezer. Food in the fridge seems to be ok too. That was one reason I let the house get cold.
Terry. we lucked out about frozen pipes. Ya know...dumb me...never gave that a thought! I guess ours could have frozen too! Luckily, they didn't.
Terry, I have long hair! And I am well over 40...lol!! Don't know if you have seen my pic on the ORVG forum or not??? I think it's called names with faces or something like that. Anyway...every time I mention getting it cut, DH has a fit!! And I like it too. It keeps me warm in the winter, wearing it down, and in the summer, I just put it in a ponytail...and wear a ball cap...lol!! Works for me!!
Congrats on the seedlings you guys!! Enjoy!
I am off to get some lunch!!
Marcy, Happy Lunch! LOL
Terry, I haven't had any trouble, yet, with anything getting leggy, so I hope my luck holds! LOL Right now I am trying to figure out if there is ANY way possible to use a water bed heater as a heat mat, any ideas anyone???
Well seems to me that I have read where some did that...but since I have no idea what a waterbed heater looks like, I best not comment any further!
Thanks for trying to think on it, though! LOL
quick update, no real information yet, but the person that has been on the run from the cops was taken into custody this afternoon. Sigh of relief, glad its over.
Hope life is back to normal soon.
Hugs to all
Janis
Glad to hear the good news, Janis. As you said, "sigh of relief".
Terry, long hair makes some people look older and others not. Marcy looks great with long hair. As for me, I have never had long hair. My hair was always way too curly to wear it long not to mention coarse and thick. As I get older, though, my hair gets straighter and thinner. :o(( Pau likes me in short hair--he says I look younger with shorter hair. I think he would like it if I shaved my head!! LOL It is all just a matter of personal preference, I think. What does John say about you getting your hair cut? Is he for it or against it?
Did you get your water pipes thawed out?
I do know what a waterbed heater looks like, Tammy, and I don't know why you couldn't try it and see how it works. I would keep a close eye on things, though.
Also, I have never heard of coleus and impatiens as house plants, but I don't know why it wouldn't work. ☺☺☺
Sorry for all you guys who are having the really cold temps. It is cold here, but not as cold as where some of you are. The sun is shining, too, and that always helps!!
We had a wonderful visit with our friends today and the food was great, too. Anybody ever heard of "Burnt sugar pie"? MMMM, delicious! Also, my blood was somewhere in the middle--not too thick, not too thin. Hooray!
Hey Mau, burnt sugar pie sounds yummy! Might go ahead and give that heater a try when Shaun is feeling better.
Janis, I guess I really missed something on what is going on in your area, but glad to hear all is better now!
Marcy, I did pop over to that thread. I didn't think your hair was long though? I thought it looked to be about shoulder length? And red? Curly? Yes, no? Post the photo here again!
Mau, John has no opinion on what I do with my hair. He never has. I've honestly never understood the guys who "forbid" their significant others to cut it. My best friends husband was like that. The guy who wore a mullet for years! Too funny. Hers is above the shoulder now, very thick and very straight.
If freshly washed, I have some curls. But I don't shampoo it every day, so the next day I run a brush thru it to pull it into a pony tail, and it takes the curls out and makes my hair look fuzzy. A spritz of water helps. It's in great condition and also what's considered fine hair. And the longer it gets, the less curly it becomes. I have to be careful about shampoos and conditioners, some are way too heavy for my hair. I don't like my hair pulled straight back, yet I don't really like the part left in it. I'm just finding it incredibly boring and I really don't like older women with bone straight flat hair.
Tammy, it'll take awhile before they become leggy. I would buy them in the spring and by early summer, I'd have to be pinching them back so they become fuller and lose the legginess.
Janis!! Very happy to read your update! Now you can relax! Breathe in, breathe out!
Ok Terry....here I am. Yeah...it's only about shoulder length. I consider that long hair...lol! Yes...it has a reddish cast to it...and it's not colored either...lol. I do have a perm. Otherwise my hair is stick straight.
What I like is ...it is wash and wear. I wash it....use a little mousse on it...scrunch it up...and dry it. No curling irons...no curlers...nothing. I hate messing with hair!!! Guess I am lazy!
Hey Terry, I have done a lot of reading on them and they say they make good house plants, but to pinch them to make them bushier, so I am hoping for a beautiful display! :)
Marcy, love the hair! And such a pretty smile you have there! :)
Aww thanks Tammy.
I told you that Marcy looks great with long(er) hair! It's also great that you don't have to color your hair, Marcy. I colored my hair up until 2 1/2 years ago then I got tired of it and decided to let it go gray. Prematurely gray hair runs in my family. My mother had beautiful gray hair at an early age and so did her father. I was destined to have it too, but Pau wanted me to color it for years and so I did. Finally I told him enough was enough,I was going gray. He loves "the old gray mau", too! LOL
LOL! Well..I am starting to get some grey at the temples. My dad had almost black hair till the day he died. Only a little grey at the temples.
I tell everyone..hey...I have to have something good...lol!! The rest of me is falling apart!!
Edited to say...I might as well color it...everyone thinks I do!!! LOL!!

Marcy, my MIL is 81 and she has never colored her hair--doesn't need to, either. Here I am with totally gray hair and when we are together she is walking around beside me with reddish-brown hair! LOL
You bet, Marcy!
Mau, I seen your pic and I think your hair is beautiful! :)
Terry, try shoulder length and some layers maybe. Or just come down here when possible and I'll take you to my stylists. They are great except for the part of not letting my hair grow real long again. lol
I am in the process of letting mine grow back out, again! LOL I thought it was what was causing my headaches, but after getting it all whacked off, it wasn't!
This message was edited Jan 30, 2008 10:48 PM
I once had mine half-way down my back. I was getting a headache from it cause it was so thick so I whacked it to my shoulders. I liked the style and have had it for 3 yrs now. I wanted to grow it out last year but they kept cutting more than the 2 inches I asked for. I finally got my hair past my shoulders and she cut probably 3-4 inches back to my shoulder. Now a coworker is gonna do my hair for me. She's been there so she knows. :~)
I have no idea Tammy. :~)
What are you talking about Tammy?
Marcy, I knew that was the photo I'd seen. My hair is half way down my back. And getting flatter as it grows. I'm just tired of it.
pepper, I do want it, I think, below the shoulders with a lot of layers. Layers work best with my curls. I had a hairdresser that was used to me sitting in her chair and when asked, my response was always to do whatever she wanted. Then I decided to let it grow. And I don't think she liked that much. She ALWAYS cut off way more than she was supposed to! And then always told me to come in at least every 6 weeks! Why? I don't blow dry my hair, it's in very good condition!
Mau, where's the picture??
Ohohoh! I forgot. When I first saw your photo Marcy, I had to re-read that it was you. Late this afternoon I called my husband over to the computer when I went back to find the picture again. I asked him "how old do you think this lady is?" He answered what I had thought, but I re-read what you wrote along with the photo, and Mau tells us you're 66, you've said you're 66, so you must be 66!! BUT, when I asked my husband, he says "Well, she's at LEAST in her 40's!" So there you go!!
Terry, it was just a question cause I was irritated at the time.
Where is what picture, Terry? You guys are hard to keep up with! LOL
and darn it, I just discovered that it is sleeting here!! Drat and double drat!!
Snow in the sky but not hitting ground yet.
Good morning all! Everybody disappeared fairly early last night. Can you believe I was up past 10 p.m.? LOL I watched Pride and Prejudice. The one that A&E came out with several years ago. I have the DVD's. I practically have the whole thing memorized but I never get tired of watching it. Pau won't watch it with me--too many bosoms--LOL. You just have to see the movie to know what I am talking about!! LOL
Sleet is gone for the time being. More due later this afternoon. Schools in the northern portion of the state are closed today due to snow/ice. Well, wouldn't you know it? I just looked outside and it is sleeting again!! Drat again!!
BBL one of our friends just called and is on the way over with donuts!!☺☺☺
Enjoy those donuts! I'm jealous! LOL
It's REALLY cold out and I have to venture out. Yuck! Something like 6º, I think? I checked but then forgot.
It's funny, I wasn't here all day yesterday and you were talking about hair styles and such. TWO people came up to me yesterday at work and asked what I thought would be a good cut for them! Is that funny or what? LOL
Everyone have a great day, LOST is on tonight! Hurray!!!
Mau, you had been talking about your MIL and said "Here I am with totally gray hair and when we are together she is walking around beside me with reddish-brown hair!" and I was thinking, you meant, here, in the picture! LOL I might be dumb, but I ain't stupid! LOL
Too late to ask you what style what look best on me Celia. My hair appointment is in less than an hour! Cold here too. I haven't looked.
I want to apologize on this thread to Tammy. It was never my intention to make her feel anything but friendship and I sincerely apologize for making her feel otherwise.
Good morning everyone!!! Awwwww Terry....you made my day....lol!!!
What a nice thing to say! Now I think everyone ELSE on here should put THEIR pics up for us to see!!! YES!!!!!!!! Just do it!!!!
Celia...yes... funny how those things happen, isn't it??
Yeah...Marilyn...where's the picture?????????? I have never seen your grey hair?????? LOL!!!
Terry...I AM 66!! Just had a birthday...remember?? And I think I feel pretty good for that age....compared to some people I know. I just hope it stays that way. My DH is in good shape too, and he is 68....but you would never know it. He looks a lot younger, I think. Hmmmm...I will have to get a pic of him...lol. Have to sneak though, because he doesn't like his pic taken.
Well..I am off to Wallyworld America today instead of Friday, because of bad weather they say is coming tonight. I am not going to chance it.
I am so hoping my son can get up here over the weekend and look at this dumb computer for me! Something just isn't right!
You all have a great day! I will try to be back later on this evening.
No Marcy, you aren't 66! My husband and I both say you're in your 40's. We can't be swayed..LOL ☺ You have as few wrinkles as I do at 49. Do you have oily skin? My dad has oily skin and my sister and I both have it too. Used to always curse it, but anymore I'm thinking it's a good thing. I used to wonder how old I was going to be, walking around with all this oil. But my dad is 71 and still has oily skin, so there is no hope of ever losing it! LOL
Hair is cut. How very weird to not be able to reach up behind me and grab my hair! It's below my shoulders. My curls sure bounced back though! She cut off a good 10". Lots and lots of layers. So far so good!
Okay Terry you have to post a picture for us of you with your new 'do.
Marcy, you must have missed the picture that Terry posted of herself, her daughter, Pau and me. I think it was on the previous thread, not sure though.
Anyway, for all my adoring fans,☺☺☺, here is a picture which Pau took of me on my birthday.
