oh...hahah, was more laughing about shar's drink, Could almost see that happening.

...Well Tropi, I am sure glad you completed what you wanted. How about telling us a little bit...LOL can it be described discretely?
Man...now i am really curious.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm not done, or even close, so I don't want to spoil it. honestly, it's just a b/w sketch...with a silouette

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

You using mirrors Tropi??

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi all you girls. I got a present today from somebody with , ODDLY no postmark stamped and no return address, how they did this I would like to know? THANK YOU, WHOEVER YOU ARE, It was sweet and appreciated and with such perfect timing.

Today is a better day. It is cold and windy though. Rabbits are eating my plants so I hope they stop with my repellant out now. I am sure they are despirate at this time of year.

Any of you starting seeds indoors or out and how and where if outside?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sitting here just laughing along with you girls..Trop can imagine what you are up to??? lol...hints would be appreciated, then we can use our imagination..which we've plenty of...

Dawn, never heard of anything mailed with no postmark..tried to think how I could get something shipped without the stamp so my secret bud wouldn't know who I was..anyone know????

Judy, don't they say that before you go shopping you should put your plastic in a ziplock bag, put it in water and freeze it..that might keep you safe...

Rachel..if you've not shopped at Joanne's for over a week or so, it's time to drop in..always new gadgets, materical etc. great place to spend your $$$...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sat here quietly all evening cutting glass for a lamp for spare room..my cutter is years old, need new end so before I get home tomorrow I'll have spent between painting and stained glass studio almost my entire paycheck..oh well..only me to spoil..why not???

Tired now so think I'll call it a day...

Best..staying home and enjoyed company of 2 grandchildren..

Worse..no worse, not much can happen when you don't leave the house other than the post office...

What did I learn..that making these straight line cut pieces for the lamps are a great way to use up odds/ends of glass...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

No Betty there were stamps but no stamp from the post office that shows where it came from.

Pacifica, CA

evening all,

dawn, how is that possible? im going to the post office i'll ask them if that is possible

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Hey, you all!

I know this is by now "yesterdays news", but just wanted ti tell you that I NEVER heard back from my old friend. It has now been a month since I mailed the card. It hasn't come back either.......
Well--I did not expect to hear back--actually. Let sleeping dogs lie!

So--you can all stop dreaming about what color bridesmaid dresses you would want to wear.
You all are just too goofy!!!!

It is raining, raining here! Good for all the beds and the lawn. And I don't have to go anywhere! Lady of leisure here.....

I am sick of not having done anything productive in all the 2 months I have now been unemployed. Today, I started the preliminary process to get ready to paint my bathroom. Went to my HD and got the paint and was scrubbing down the walls today.

Baby steps......baby steps......

So fun to hear about your little SP surprises. Now doesn't that brighten up some dreary days?? And think how much fun it is to look for just that special gift.

Thanks for sharing them, this is fun.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just love them and here I thought we'd know who our SB was by the post mark...and not..can't understand it, got to ask about that one..that makes it even more interesting..REALLY not knowing!

Well we've had quite a bit of snow..Diane picking me up for class this morning..friend of Roger and I called to ask if he could drop in today as he's in the area..explained that I would be out till around 5 but he'd be more than welcome...always makes me uneasy..he and wife have been off/on for about 20 years..always calls when there is a bump in the road..lol...just nice to catch up...

Show you a photo of my days' work tonight..apparently they come home framed as well..
Might be interested..

That's all folks.. stay safe today...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all.
So the fun has begun. Rachel, lovely little gift..it is strange there are no postmarks.
Dawn..now I wonder if your gift was from your Secret pal???..so nice for you at this time.

I just wanted to tell Judy that the arbour is made of apple tree branches..I do get behind here in replying..but want you all to know I do enjoy reading all the posts and seeing what everyone is up to.

Betty..it will be a pleasure to have you come visit and stroll through the garden. It goes through so many phases, as you must know, and isn't always so beautiful. Taking photos captures the special moments, and one doesn't see the weeds or neighbour's "stuff"
Now Betty..you mentioned $250.00 and you have to do the painting..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What!..Can't wait to see it..and to hear about your "Friends" visit.

So yesterday was quite the snowfall..I shovelled some..later on you couldn't tell..then my neighbour came with his plow to clear the driveway.

Hi Trop..so another artist in our group..such talent..got a chuckle from all the comments about your sketch.

Gita..about your card to your old friend..at least you tried..nothing lost..gave us all something to think about.

Liz..I look forward to seeing your bottle..remember when we all used to stick candles in wine bottles and let all the coloured wax melt down over the sides..
My goodness..all these hobbies you girls have sure cost a lot of money..glad I just take photos..LOL

Sharon..hope your painting is coming along as you wish..and that the paintings from the elderly gentleman who passed away find good homes.

Soo..think I'll find another garden pic to amuse you all........
Unknown daylily..given to my from a friend..

Have a great weekend all

Great pics Starzz. Yes, freshly fallen snow is so beautiful. It is certainly ugly afterwards though when things have begun to melt and mud and stuff gets mixed in with it. I hadn't ever really thought about the amount of snow that Canada gets. These pictures that you all are sending and the talk of the almost non-ending snow fall has really opened my eyes. WOW!!!

Hey guys, now I am wondering too how a person gets things mailed without a post mark. Hmmmmmm.......will have to ask on Monday when I mail mine off. I enjoyed reading the questions that Sharran asked for each of us to answer about ourselves. I now feel as though I know each of you a bit better. I am definitely still a newcomer though, because I still have to remind myself something about each of you when I see your names. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can roll each person's names off my lips like it was old hat.

I am trying to decide how to spend my day. Don't have any plans made until Monday when a cleaning lady is coming to help me shampoo carpets. She was here one day last week and washed down all of the walls throughout the house. I guess that we are getting a jump on spring cleaning. ha-ha

Okay, artsy/crafty types, I do have a project that I want to do soon. The chair here at my computer desk needs the cushion recovered. Does upholstery count as crafty? I will take a before pic and then take an after one to show. I also did the first one which now a couple of years later is showing wear, tear and soil. A new cover will be nice to go along with clean walls and clean carpets.

Okay, now I have to do this since I brought it up before all of you. You have permission to ask me about the progress because I have a tendency to sometimes put things off as long as possible. ha-ha Oh well, I am going to give myself one week to do this. Then you all have permission to begin bugging me about it.

Alright, need to get up from here and start my morning chores. I hope that everyone will have a great weekend!!!

Youu and I cross posted Starzz. I did want to comment on the very gorgeous day lily. The color is wonderful!!!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Just a note. Thursday after posting my DSL crashed. They came yesterday and fixed the problem. Then I had to leave for work!

Best fixing the DSL.
Worst having to go to work!

Will be back tomorrow when I have more time.

You all have the day you need.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

HI Ruby..
this year is unusual for snow fall..last year we didn't have nearly as much.

Covering your chair should be a good project..I use a staple gun when I do jobs like that.
Thanks for the comment on my daylily..it is one fo my favorties ..

Hi Ves..I love the way you end your posts with "you all have the day you need" I wrote and told a friend about it and ended my letter to her with that line..thanks..she really liked it too.

I am listening to a garden show on the radio right now..and the Groundhog didn't see his shadow..they say an early spring...we will see........

Siberian Iris..in 2005..I think I have lost it..or it hasn't bloomed since....hmmmmmmmm.. boy it sure was pretty.

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

Hi All, this will be short but I just wanted to post a pic of my new hoya bloom. We're going out this afternoon for a wiener roast in honour of Sonora's upcoming birthday. Our friend who is hosting had invited the family that I'm babysitting for so it works well. The girls' parents won't be there but the kids will get to share in the fun. The kids always have a great time. Our friend has built a big model train set in his living room so it's really cool for the kids to see it in action. Sonora and I made a birthday cake last night so we're all set. Today is the perfect day to be outside too. It's cold enough that it's not really wet snow but warm enough that we won't freeze while cooking our hot dogs.

I hope you all are enjoying the weekend. Here's my hoya davidcummingii.

Good Mornig.

...Happy Birthday Sonora! Have lots of fun at the Weiner Roast and outdoor activities.
Gilli, Wow! your Hoya is beautiful. The prettiest pink and white flowers...oh and to my suprise it's a vine? how cool.

Ves...so glad you got your DSL fixed, makes a happy day for all, smiliing for you.

Ruby...lol, kind of the same with crafts...depends on what it is that I am working. made a mini house last summer and it is still waiting to be roofed...at a halt can't figure out how the heck to do it. Anyway, You know how reapolster furniture how neat is that! Looking forward to seeiing your work!

GITA...Oh my gosh, just love your snow Party!! how cute is that. Your party deck is useful all year round.Nice.

Carol, You be careful shoveling all that snow! So happy your neighbor comes with his plow. DH, helped our neighbors yesterday...he just loves his blower. Will blow the entire block if he had time.
My I love your flowers. I wonder what happened to the one pretty Siberian.

...So They ended up have the play after all...We didn't go but i was got him to allow me taking his picture.
At the school he had a cowboy hat too.

Trust me it is from my secret sister. It has recipe card in it with a doggy sympathy card and a picture of a angel trumpet tree with a sticky that says, Dawn,
A picture of my "Rosamond" for you!!!
Hope this cheers you a bit....

the envelope has three stamps on it with two heart stickers and my name and address on it with no post stamp. Also I have a key only entry mailbox so it is impossible to put it in unless you have the mail key. My water bills come without a postal mark too. I will ask my water bill guy for our well how he does it. My card is signed X.

Convinced now girls, there is a way or it is a freak incident this time and every water bill post card too.

I am sitting her with a tarantula crawling on my bra and it is cratching me. I am trying to warm her up but she won't stay still.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Dawn,

That all sounds soooo mysterious! How nice! I guess that's what Shar had in mind when she started all this Secret Pal thing. Just all the mystery surrounding it. Can't figure out the NO postal cancellation on your card, though???? I will have to ask about that next time I go to the PO.

I better get my act together and do something special for MY Secret Pal!!!! I have all of the month of February, though, to think of something.......brain is churrning......do you smell smoke?.......................Quick! Call 911!!!!!!

How are you faring? Is it getting easier? Will you take my suggestion and plant some wonderful shrub or a Rose over Mushi's grave site? If it gets some shade--I think a "Bleeding Heart" would be most wonderful. I still think it would be a great tribute to his memory. Do Bleeding Hearts grow OK in your area?

Thinking of you, Gita

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm home..golly you were all busy/busy....so enjoyed all of your posts..either tonight or first thing in the morning I'll post my entries to you all..rather tired tonight..

Diane came and picked me up..no snow, bright and roads were great so that was a plus..most of the day involved using all kinds of paint moulding..on the photo you cannot see it, but it's very textured...I'm not a modern person, love country and antiques so doesn't quite match..guess I'll find it a home...it's too bad we didn't take photo's before it was framed, with the glass you really don't get the depth of color or texture...I'll post a photo but it won't do it justice...

was out early this morning shovelling..now I get home and notice there was a message on the tel. from Bernice and Cliff..Cliff wanted to know if he could come over and do my yard..boohoo...guess I get up too early and do it...so, will call him and thank him and say next time we've a big snowfall, I'd appreciate it...

There was a hang-up as well..I prayed this afternoon that he'd change his mind..not comfy with a man staying over, even a good friend, and, even in another room..just feel uneasy..my goodness he'd have a fit if he knew I said that..anyway, no message, did tell him I'd be home around 5 but didn't get home until 6pm so who knows..it really would be great to be alone tonight..I'm cooking spaghetti and then I could have a bath and early to bed..tomorrow's another day...lol...

I'll be back...

me either Aunt B but it looks like strikingly rich colors which I do love.

Gita bleeding hearts do not grow here only as indoor plants. It is surrounded by grass and is a small circle near my new lasagna bed. I see some premade grave plaques at Pet Smart for big bucks so I will make my own. I think I would love Roses there but may have a hard time mowing unless I put like one big floribunda that I can shape in there. I am still thinking but thank you for that. I need to make him live in my plant/plants there.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

love the snowman poker..lol

Sharran....even if I tried to explain it would be hard, but I have to say, you are quite intuitive

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yeah, Tropi...
what can I say.
Been there......

I don't know how that postage thing works, Dawn...but glad it does. Sure makes the game more fun.

Gita...you have Dmail...

I am painting like crazy...had to run to the craft store to get more paint....I am not even going to break even on this thing it is so big!

Loved the colors in your project today, Bette.

Later, ladies...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

This is a view from my front porch and my bedroom is along the house toward the back so from my bedroom I can look out and to the right slightly and see it from another patio where you can see the little softspa. I have no real backyard, just two side yards and a front yard. The little grave circle is all the way in the back of this view.

Any ideas of What to plant? I am thinking my lawn water may be too much water on the leaves of a rose in this area. I could plant a single tree like a silk tree or something light and airy. It is in full sun morning to mid day, it is in the south eastern part of the yard. If I put something to tall or full it will block the view of the plants in the lasagna bed. It has like 15 solar lights in a cirlcle this time of year to keep them charged.

Thumbnail by hellnzn11
Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

hellnz...too many ideas for where you are, hedychiums, curcuma, cannas, crinums, if you wanted shrubs lorapetalum, caryopteris, psittosporum (the varigated one), erythrina, brunfelsia, there are some shorter buddleias that would be nice, too.

Sharran...lol

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I had bad luck last year with the Buddleias because of lack of drainage, I think. It needs a lot of help in the area of additional compost. My baby will help some, sadly.

I'd love that if I could get them to live there. It gets a lot of water there. psittosporum does better here with some amount of shade in the midsummer and more drainage then I have at present but that can be addressed. I have to look up some of the stuff that I don't know by the proper names.

I love Cannas. Man I should try to get some. That would be great. I lost a bunch in a wet winter though, so it may get too much water there too unless I plant above ground in a container. I should plant in a huge strawberry type container and tier stuff until the soil is better drained there? What do you think.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

too much water for cannas? wow, must rain a lot there. I would just mound soil on top of where you want to plant for a little extra height and drainage. containers dry so fast here, with cannas it would never work!

You could do a container, it just hasn't rained much the past couple of years here. There are alos aquatic cannas that grow in ponds so those would do well. Karchesky Canna has them listed on their site

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Carol- Is that an Orchard across from your house? (In front of your neighbor with his JD snowplow.) Love the daylily and the iris, any idea what cultivar the iris is?

Ruby- Of course upholstery is a craft! Looking forward to the before/after photos!

Gilli- I love the hoya picture, are they fragrant? Have a wonderful time at the wienie roast and happy bday to Sonora!

Gita- I love your snow gambling gang!

Judy- That is one handsome wrangler you have there!

Betty- Beautiful paintings, they are so rich and warm. Glad to hear that the drive was “easy” for once! I can understand your feelings about having your guy friend, better to be on the safe side.

Dawn- What about a bird of paradise?

This morning we took Scrappy to his first "Super Puppy" class, he was the star pupil! Carl and I have been working with him alot and having a great time. I will attach a pic of him and his dad in class. Spent the rest of the day just enjoying being home. It's cold (35 F and rainy outside.) Going to dinner in a few, pizza, yummy!

Hugs to you all! Rachel
