Oh my gosh,
You all be careful in these extreme weather conditions.
Drive safe...
...It's heading our way.

Trop,

Knock yourself out!!!! Make some T-shirts. Can I bribe you to make one for my daughter's step-daughter (Megan)? She is nuts about faeries....If you do--XL please. It should fit in a big envelope. What color shirts are you thinking of doing? Black would be good (for Megan) White is too ho- hum!

I'll pay you back for the shirt!

Starzz,

I go to the trouble of putting a 12" green plastic fencing around all my beds in the back as we usually have a couple of rabbits around here. I hold it up with short pieces of bamboo stakes. If they are determined enough, they usually chew a square opening out and go chomp anyway. I have no deer or anything else as I am not in the woods--just near the woods--but this IS a development with a houses about 20' apart from one another.

Look! here's half of my whole back yard!!!! Looking west. See the green fencing around the corner bed? This is the bed that i cannot even dig into. Need a pick and a serious effort. That Maple is right next to it and the roots are nasty...nasty!

Thanks, Gita

And here is the other half--looking east.
Now you can see how limited I am for planting anything new! I envy you all with all those sprawling landscapes!!! Can you see? I am all green!

That is my shed on the right. My Ex's original fancy--kind of the Chalet look! It looks very interesting, but is not all that practical inside as the walls are only about 4' high on the sides. Everything else slopes up. I sure have every inch of it filled!

This is the West side of my house. gets pretty good sun. I have 4 roses here and also this is where I grow my Daturas and at least ONE Brug.

The climbing Rose on the right is the Autumn Sunset. The Sweet Surrender is at the far end.

Gita I love your yard! It's got kind of a woodsy feel to it to me. Which is what I like and wish I had but DH hates to mow around things. He will mow right over them instead! opps!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This gives you a bit more perspective of how small my back yard is. The house is all the way to the left anf the tall bushes in the back is where my yard ends.
This was in June when I had it all set up for my big cook out for 45 people.

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Another view ready for the big Party! This is my patio where I live--and the hanging swing is my "Therapy seat"....Love to just veg there!

Ves! Thanks! I do love my garden--no matter how small it is. I have always made the best of every nook and cranny.
As new plants come my way--I am finding myself using more and more containers.

Looks so inviting Gita...your yard is larger than most for sure! Lovely yard...

Well, roads were clear coming home, that's a plus, tonight is Bingo night..fell asleep last week with still 3 games to play..lost out on the big bucks so here goes again..now come on, wish me luck..would love to pick up the $2,000 jackpot, or any of the other games..

NOT making myself comfy..have had my bath but will sit on kitchen chair till games are over..2 weeks of dozing off during the games does get one in the position to call 'bingo'..lol..

Another 45 minutes so let's see, if I sit and look at garden and project books, that might make me doze off, if I cut some glass well I'll not want to stop so what to do, what to do????

Talk later

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Gita, that would be great. I'll make one for Megan, too. I have to be honest, though, y'all are some motivated, crafty people. Megan might be in Juniors' and my daughter, too by the time I actually get around to doing anything.

I will try. Those printer sheets don't transfer well to any color other than white, as the color doesn't come out right. Everyone told me but I had to be stubborn and waste a few shirts

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Trop,

I myself did not want one. If you insist--I would just take a L. Megan would love to get this as a X-mas gift this year. She is 21 ans on the hefty side--that's why XL.

How about another color? Maybe Gray? I know she likes black, as when she was a bot younger, she was all into the Goth stuff. She also has long, black hair. But--you do what works! Anything will be fine.

Thanks, Gita

Pacifica, CA

evening all,
so did you hear on the news about the double gas tanker that fell over ya well guess where it is close to home omg they shut down the freeway southbound this happened at 1.45 this afternoon it is still gridlock! all the fighting, it is just awful no one will let anyone merge in all the back streets, are just horrible took a little over a hour to get home i usually get in in 10-15 minutes, i hope they can get things cleaned up if not tomorrow will be just horrible to get to work there talking about a few hours still.. i have to go retire i see your all well, be careful and stay warm

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Gita, I think gray might work :)

Great yard Gita. Everything is so nice and green in the pictures. Looking very healthy there. Thanks for sharing.

This is the view from my back deck. There is now a large metal building that serves as John's garage behind the fence now though. The mountain peak is The Skyline Drive Parkway part of The Blue Ridge Mountains.

Also taken from my back deck. John built this "monument" to honor our love. Awww......ain't he a sweetie?

Thumbnail by rubyw
Crozet, VA

A front view of our hill side home. Behind the large rocks is a large flower bed that runs the length of the house. He is currently in the middle of building a walkway along in front of the bed, to give me better access to bed itself. I can't wait until it warms up and he finished this project. I was unable to do much gardening in that bed last year because of piles of rocks the ditches that he has dug.

My greenhouse that is only suitable for storage. When I saw it a few years ago at Sam's Club, I had to have it. It is made of hard plastic and the doors have given us a fit because they buckle and won't stay shut without using the contraption that John made to keep them shut.

The cost of heating it isn't feasible and so serving as a storage building for planting items works well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ruby..love your yard as well..now look at that view...when travelling to Florida the best is looking out while driving in the mountains..such a sense of peace being there..

Liz...OMG, disastrous...don't go in till it's all cleaned up..you don't want to get into any situation where all the drivers are in bad humour...lol might be an excuse for a day off...

As for me I've been up since 4:30..winds are in the 70mph range, calling for possible 110pm and wouldn't you know it's blowing in the direction of my back deck..so I was out about 5 hammering the plastic in that I had put up to stop the snow..but to no avail..the corner area came down twice so guess it's best to leave it alone until the wind dies down..I've moved everything in the winds path so can only hope for the best...

Paul did not call to tell us to take the day off, but the newscast says the temps are falling so drastically that all the melting will now turn to ice and possible freezing rain then the snow...so, Suzanne just called and said we'd probably leave around 8am giving us that 1 extra hour at home not to have to fight traffic and until they get the roads sanded...

Buses for this area have been cancelled..think what I might do is go pack an overnight bag and if by any chance it gets worse when I'm in the city, I'll just get a hotel room or go spend the night with son Jeff...we'll see...

Did play all 5 bingo games last night, no $$$$..lol...just my luck...took all I had though to keep awake..
So that's my early morning news..
I'm off to pack my bags.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Happy Days! Paul just called and said to stay put..weather is only going to get worse today..so, still in my jammies, have my pattern and glass just waiting to be turned into a 'lamp treasure' so will enjoy my day!

Crozet, VA

Be careful Betty.

Crozet, VA

Okay, we cross posted. My message should read:

Be careful and enjoy your day at home.

We are having high winds too and it scares at least one of dog's, silly. Poor guy. He is usually the leader and the grump. Wind turns him in to jelly. ha-ha

Ruby

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

whoo hoo southbound open now i can relax however northbound still closed there working on re paving the area damaged by the 2000 gallons of gasoline that spilled
im telling ya people need to be patient in the rain..

ruby, your place is lovely the mountains are beautiful oh that monunemt was sweet.

tropicanna, you guessed it actually we have been saying how we want to get out of here for a long time maby idaho its just too much here sometimes i think were almost ready for more slower pace lol

betty, that was something else your warning guess i better not complain about the rain to much now that you get to stay home what are you going to work on have fun now that the stress is lifted i think im going to have to leave a half hour earlier and go shopping at walgreens for what? just something to do lol finally got to the tj maxx/homegoods omg walked out of there with a shell planter a white light weight jacket some towels and some st patrick things and a cute wood plack says life guard wanted that will go near the fish pond had to behave the boss was with me rolling her eyes saying put it back you dont need it need to go back by myself lol

gita, your yard is wonderful keep pictures comming
hi shar, hope your doing good and feeling better
hello to all running late now have to go shopping lol
have a good day

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Gita, where did you get the little green fencing for your garden? I am going to have to do somehting like that to keep the dog out of my beds. I went home yesterday and found where Mr Murphy has torn up one whole bed. While I know the little fence won't keep him out, I'm hoping it will deter him from just picking my gardens to dig in. I've got a huge backyard so I'm sure it's going to cost me a pretty penny. I took my DH out there last night and told him we HAVE to do something NOW! My gardening is my theraphy and I will not let all my hard work get torn up!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Funny how ones days get completely unorganized when you've organized them to run smoothly..lol

Decided to finish the little angels that were already cut out..just needed soldering..so got that done..
Noah went to school but Kyle stayed home so of course he's got to be the biggest gabber there is..told him his dickie was almost finished..said 'could you finish it today grandma, mine will last me the season but Noah's is way too small'..couldn't believe my ears..usually if it's for Noah..no way..so must be getting older..

Ruby, Sailor is so very frightened of thunder, firecrackers, loud noises, but howls and howls when the telephone rings..she's be great for someone with hearing problems because she'd drive them crazy until they answered the telephone...
Haven't had breakfast..finished my daily load of wash..off to iron it, then finish the dickie and then possibly start my lamp..

I'm still in my jammies, but really I must get dressed..girls cancelled their painting class today as well..had hoped to see them all, so with them not coming, who will know I'm in my jammies of except all of you of course...

Liz, you be careful..not sure we have TJMax..will have to check it out..thought it was just a clothing store..now don't you go move just yet, I always wanted to see California..smile/smile...guess no matter where you live you are likely to have some sort of weather difficulty..mine is snow...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeannine, wouldn't it be better for all to have a run made, some type of fencing??? my goodness how disastrous..know you love your garden and Murphy but look at the work and expense gone with all the digging..call a fencing company and get a quote for a small area with a gate..too bad you weren't closer..Suzanne has a large one that she wasn't sure if she was keeping now that her yard is fenced in...

What did dear hubby say??? Is he a dog lover???

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

GG,

I buy that at HD. You should find it in Outside Garden where all the wire mesh and Chicken Wire rolls of fencing are.

The green plastic I use comes in a 25' roll and is 3' wide. It costs about $12. I cut it in 3's--lengthwise, so I get 12" high fencing out of it. A good pair of garden scissors works easily. For dogs that would not be a deterrent....

I buy a package if the 4' green bamboo stakes and cut them in half to use for threading it through the fencing and then sticking it into the ground. It is a chore I do not look forward to, but it has to be done or all the $$ I spend on annuals would be for naught.

Hope this helps! Gita

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Ruby love your yard. I saw that greenhouse at Sam's also and wanted one. Never had the bucks for it and am now glad. But it does look nice.

Betty you have a good day today. Don't forget the nap!

Liz you be careful going to work.

We have a couple of rabbits around here right now. But they won't be for long. They multiply way to fast.

Have to go and make a phone call before I forget.

This is the view of the north end of the greenhouse and the garage is the other wall taken last spring.

You all have the day you need.

Morning all,
Yes..high winds here but no problems so far..just some light branches down.
Betty..how nice to have a day off to play.

Gita..so nice to see your yard and roses..thanks for the showing me your little fence..I tried that on one garden but the rabbits just jumped right over it. The one thing that helps is when I put chicken wire around the roses...but that looks so awful I end up taking it off after awhile and then they start eating again. I have decided to just not let it bother me and grow other things. I have lost so many roses over the years..but I get hooked again when I start reading the rose forum or see them at the nurseries.

Ruby..Love those mountians..I remember driving through Virginia on the way to SC.
Is that an Elephnat ears plant..so huge..in the deck picture..beautiful deck ..you must have a wonderful view form there.
Liz....what a mess that must be..gas all over...

GG..maut be heartbreaking to have your gardens dug up..torn between the love for your dog..and the love for you gardens..

Been on the phone a lot this morning..must go gret dressed..LOL

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Ves..we cross posted..

Gita, thanks so much for the info. I will go out this weekend and search for a solution.

Betty, Murphy's not an outside dog so I couldn't put him in a run (and our neighborhood assc. doesn't allow them). Anyway, we need to work with him better. He digs because he's bored so we need to be outside with him and not just let him out and leave him to "play". He needs to be worn out more too.

He has a new girlfriend that wears him out good! She is a black lab that is 2 months younger then him and her name is Savannah. She came over yesterday and I tell you what, they had a BLAST!!!! They ran around the yard for over a half hour and are hilarious together. They lay on the ground and just "kiss" and hug each other. I'll have to post some pics tonight. Anyway, he had no desire to dig or chew anything after his encounter with his girl. It may take me putting up a barrier and taking him out on a leash and walking him around for awhile. I need to train him that the beds are off limits. I think that boredom and us not watching him is the key. I WILL PREVAIL!!!

Starzz,

Have you tried spraying Hot pepper spray on your plants? You can make your own--or you can buy it. I just wonder if that would deter the rabbits.

I had a Natural Pest Recipes site saved, but now, what comes up, is some kind of gardening sales store. I am sure you could Google it.

Tropicana,

Hang loose for a bit on printing out the Faerie picture. I am going to enclose a higher resolution one from my drawinf and also take a picture of it from the book.

Are you planning to make T-shirts for just yourself and family???? Just wondering....

Gita

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Trop, Done!!!

So, here's a picture of my Blue Faerie from the book. You can see that they are identical--except for the background being white.

And here is the picture of my drawing scanned maximum resolution. Not sure if it really made a difference.

You use whichever you choose! G.

Popping in to say hi...very stormy here tonight..had Mel/Greg and the boys over for supper..managed to cook a nice spaghetti but the bread rolls might have had a little char to them..lol..oh well..I had good intentions..

Worked all day like a little trooper and finished the two dickies for the boys..both left for home wearing them...

So am rather tired tonight..off to bed I go..won't listen to the weather channel as half the time I'm awake waiting for the storm..

Best..being home and having the family over for supper and a visit..

Worse..hearing about that poor child left on the streets to die...horrific..

What did I learn...the Deputy Chief for municipality that I worked with for some years passed away today..godsent to his family..at a young age he had dimensia and had to be put in a home ...

So off I go..bed looks mighty comfy in this blizzard..wind howling.. night all

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Sleep well Betty..
It is howling here too...
Tomorrow should be better.

Glenview, IL

Hi,

Betty, sounds like you should get snuggly warm...I hope you sleep well.

Just wanted to touch basis. Say hello.

HELLO!

With extreme weather everywhere I sure hope all are safe and can realx in your cozy homes.

...Well just to make this rather generic(sorry) I have to say,

I have really enjoyed all of the gardens today. Sure is making me miss the gardening season, but anticipating the beauty to come.
I have been super busy at work...and on the home front as well.

We are facing some more harshness, with yet to say good bye to people who are finishing their week. So times are a little rough with that...Keeps me busy thoug as I have been almost drowning with my own workload. Keeps me 1/2 way sane anyway.

On the home front....My best I have been spending timer with family and doing fun things! DS took 3rd place in wrestling..against kids age 13&14-he is 12...Then he audutioned for the school play to be a Lasso'er Had to learn in 2 days and got the only position of greeting guests to the play(it was a last minute idea) Smiles from me! Play is Friday night. Then hahah, last night during the beginning of the storm, DH # 1 (Julia) had her LAST Band concert,haha-we didn't even know until she was getting ready to go, said we didn't have to but Hey I wasn't hearing that! So beautiful, Breenie created a very quick sketch while they played so I was blessed with a double.
...You may think I am a little bonkers but I was in tears...my girl, started playing the Alto Sax in the 4th grade. missed 1 yr due to issues that she has overcome. BiG time. Now, She is has passed the Semester with 4/A's and 2 B's ...Don't know if you remember had an issues with my Breenie...well I am so pleased to say she pulled straight B's with only 1 C(which was our fault) ...Buddie(Jake) Passed all his classes very well too..........Needless to say..We are so VERY proud of them...Don't have anything else to report other than I (We) are Other then our ho hum usual evening events, I am exhausted. I stay up Very late with DS# 2 as, well she needs me and friends she talks with...just can't go to bed until she is comfortable. I work on little things while we visit too. So, I am sorry to not be on as of late. You are all with me in heart. Read every day...
...Have so enjoyed your art Gita, Ves..I just love your garden plots. GG, Murph will get "it" I sure can feel for all your hard work! Have you thought of one of them clothes line dog runs? Might work. Also, Gita you have a very nice garden area, I think. Always nice to have a little piece of earth to smile upon. Liz, my Buddie!..LOL thanks for the insight on those Feathered Roses! Gosh, I am so bummed on what you have been dealing with!! You just be careful in your travels...OK! Dawn, Sweetie, I have got to say...Everyone has givien some beautiful words of advise and well...Just want to say myself, each day does get easier. Don't feel guilty because as Mooshie(loved her photo, so pretty) knew you were there when you looked in her eyes...she saw all your love too, ( even though painfull) Remember her in all her loving self. Laura, I smile...Hope you are having some good days. I was glad your visit went well..Let the sun touch your heart!
Shar, I am having some fun with the SPS! Thank you for everything! ! I am hoping you are feeling much better. Tropi, Ihope your Fairy shirts turn out well...How very cool! Ruby..I LOVE the Blue Ridge Mountains! What a view to behold each day.

Geeze it is getting late...Just am going to wave at every else.

Betty, I am so glad you were able to stay home and (work) your arts. If you are on the road tomorrow...Due CAREFUL, as everyone!
So going to say goodnight, wiped beyond normal.lolol catching up with me...

Best-Going to bed at a normal hour.
Worst...
Learned...Everything in "my" time!

...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Gita I LOVE THAT FAIRY AND THE BIRCHES ESPECIALLY.

You are all dear to me.
