Nope TJ - thank you for keeping it strait, with the way things have been here you never know!

bronc, what's a broom tree?

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm sorry, they are called desert broom. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/81748/

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, this is what I've got worked out for the 19th. We are planning on borrowing the 15 passenger van from my mom's church, and then renting 2 additional 15 passenger vans for a weekend rate of about $110 each. That's a total of $220 for the 2 vans, and so far, we've got about 40 people coming. I divided 220 by 40 and got 5.50, so I think if everyone could bring $6 per head, we can pay for the vans and the extra, if there is any, will go towards the pavillion rental which is $25. Now, remember that we will be bringing dishes for a pot luck lunch and for everyone who comes to my house afterwards, LouC's husband, Mike, will be cooking brisket served with beans, coleslaw, and tater salad. Drinks will also be srved at my house. Is $6 ok with everyone?

Also, I've been thinking we could honor a member at each North Texas swap with an Outstanding Gardener Award. It might be a garden plaque for that person to place in their garden or a special plant that person really likes. We could nominate people based on things like kindness, generosity, gardening achievements, experience, and contributions to DG. What do y'all think? If y'all think it's a good idea, I'll start a thread to begin the nominations.

Getting closer to swap time!!!! YeeeeeeHaw!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

T.J. $6.00 per head is just fine.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

well ya know IF ya get bored you can always come help...haha!..I already know it's a no thanks the price of gas is a bit much for a drive my way just to dig bamboo roots, but that's okay I'll still bring my pie on the 19th.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

blues maven, whatcha mean by turk's cap? are you wanting the lily or the one texans call turk's cap?

Fort Worth, TX

The one texans call turks cap

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

If anyone's needing turk's cap its a shame they can't come over here and help me dig out this massive bunch that needs to go for the fence project--I've been putting it off. It looks like I'll need a pick axe even in our soft soil. Had to dig bulbs up and pry them from the around the roots and stems of it. Luckily, they were "durable" and "determined to live" bulbs. Had to use the tree branch loppers and cut roots--I like to garden but hate to do this kind of gardening.

Fort Worth, TX

dmj1218 can I have some of your Ipheion uniflorum 'Wisley Blue'? That's really pretty.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yep you sure can--I've got other stuff too, just no time to update list yet. Busy "fence-spotting" here.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

bumpy ride LOL

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Mitch, How about a purple velvet plant for a purple crepe myrtle?

BTW the two huge brugs from October RU are green and growing. I never would have believed that they would make it. They looked dead, dead, dead! LOL

Charlene

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh great, I just realized this is the wrong rU.

I am not going to make it to Waxahatchie.

DH says, I have to choose my trips due to gas prices. I have my mother that is a 3 1/2 hour drive to visit. She is 80, so I feel like I have to put her at the top of my list. I have my sister that is a 2 1/2 hour drive. She has recently had a masectomy and has other probs, so she is also at the top of the list. I frequently pick my sister up and take her to visit our mom which makes for a 4 1/2 hour trip (one way).

I am already going to CSRU as it is just an hour away.

Mitch since the CSRU is before the North Texas one I can still send you the purple velvet plant if you would like to have it. I'll pass it along with someone going to both RU's (like maybe Josephine).

Darn gas prices! I dream of the old gas pumps with globe shaped tops that you pulled up to and a fellow came out and asked: could I check your oil? He asks this with a squeege in his hands as he has just cleaned your windshield. He is doing all this while he is pumping your gas. If you want a coke while at the station, you get out and go to the coke machine. They may have some gum or a couple choices of candy by the register, but no full sized stores for sure. Oh yeah and as you pay your bill, he will hand you whatever they are giving away with every fill up.

Then you get old and sell the give aways on ebay!! AND gas is pumped by YOU and you can get lunch when you go in to pay. You also need to take an extra job to pay for the darned gas!!

Charlene

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

but 5 billion dollars isn't enough profit for these **&&^^&&^ and you can fill in the blank with the most vile word in your vocabulary. unless josephine, your most vile word is something like "cad" in which case i'm gonna help you. ain't that right charlene? lol.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Right on Barbara!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Charlene - would love one... I know I was going to try and make both but with gas and the College Station one being moved so close to ours it made saving impossible.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. Charlene and Mitch, I will pick it up for you, and whatever else you need.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Just sticking in a link for the trades........

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Debbie, is the HOA going to pay for it? I hope so. I have the evergreen sumac that Mitch dug for you sitting in a tub at my house. I sure hope you can make the swap. Let us know. Thanks!

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The back they are--but they still need a few signatures back from the owners.

The side and front are really my responsibility--but my next door neighbor has kindly offered to go half's on that one.

this is what i am going to do. i will bring some things that i have extras of. so everybody see me when i get there. i don't have time to list what i have and i may not have time to get it ready if i list it so i bring what i bring. if i do have something special that someone is wondering about though lmk. the mum co-op is a 2 parter and has been all i have done for over a week. and it goes on for another one. hope to do better next time.

and josephine......all the goat's rue died except one. when the mums came in i forgot about them and the 50 ( i know i exaggerate but...) mph winds dried them all out. i will try again as i still have seeds. maybe in the fall. i do have the rudbeckia maxima though.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)
