It's actually been raining here ever since about 11:00 a.m. EST with above zero temps for the first time in a while. No crocus or snowdrops in bloom but it does have me thinking spring :-)
What's it doing in your neighborhood today???
Well, it got to about +4C here today; sunny this morning and then cloudy this afternoon. Messed around indoors this afternoon starting seeds; got some pansies, violas, Snail Vine, Foxy Foxglove, and Black Velvet Geraniums going. Doesn't moist seed starting mix smell heavenly?
burn_2007 - afraid I did. Orchestra rehearsal was NOT cancelled as we were rehearsing with piano soloist. We rehearse at a church with a portico. I asked DH to drive me and pick me up rather than slip across the parking lot.
growin - that is a very cool display of the Cornus varieties. What a great idea!
Hello there, stopped raining late last night, thank goodness...we need a slow thaw..this morning temps dropped and it started to snow and by 11am had stopped..no sun but a pleasant day..slow melting around the deck so must be mild enough for that...
Mom just called from Florida to tell me how hot it was..lordy she's turning the knife slowly..how I'd love to go back for a month or so..should have stayed when I was down there..
Theresa, lucky you..we'll not get into shorts until July if this keeps up..doesn't matter because they probably don't fit me anyway..lol...being housebound all winter has surely helped me gain weight...
Now look at all the planting going on (winter sowing)..I'll not start mine until early March..should be out purchasing materials now though..would make me think I'm getting somewhere with regards to gardening..
Hope it's been a nice day in your neck of the woods!
joannabanana - Woah, that pic needs a caption like "Stop snowin' already!" LOL
Growin, thanks for sharing the Cornus image - that really is a great idea to display the range of stem colours. In the garden I have a red, a yellow and bought three whips last year that are supposed to be a peachy colour. Maybe I should plant them all together. There's a 10 year old Kerria japonica 'Plena' in the garden that has never flowered for me but I keep it solely for the lime green stems for the winter containers too.
Sandy
Hope the road and parking lots were not to slippery for your rehearsal Viola.
We got the rain today, DH said the parking lots at the local businesses were very icy. I didn't dare venture out.
Joannabanana, Are you trying to tell the weather man to STOP sending snow? :0)
No lack of snow in your neck of the woods also.
Joanne; good head start on you wintersowing .
The main roads were all salted. The church parking lot was a skating rink. A lot of people dropped their instruments off at the door and then ventured into the parking lot. Reversed it to go home. Having DH drop me off and pick me up solved the problem.
Today was +3 C or so but it's back into freezing now. Should be fun again tomorrow since lots of catch basins were blocked. Am keeping my strap on cleats in the car and wearing the boots I can strap them onto.

Wahhhhhhhh! Will February never end? Woke up to 8 fresh inches of snow and squalls coming in off Lake Huron. Like everyone else in Ontario we've had snow, freezing rain, ice pellets, rain, and more snow - all in the past 4 days. Be careful out there everyone!

Nice drive into work this morning..calling for a storm to arrive later today, let's home we're home by the time it starts...
Yesterday I could hardly move and each time I took a breath my ribs ached..couldn't figure it out..this morning it dawned on me, after my plowman came and did the drive on Sunday, the municipal plow did it's thing and I had about 2' to 3' of ice, slush and snow in the drive..went out and dug myself out..guess I pulled a few muscles or used a few muscles that I haven't used in awhile..oh well, should keep me fit until I get digging those gardens..aren't you excited..
PLEASE tell me that usually the 1st week in March is bad for weather and then throughout the rest of the month we see sunshine and feel the warmth of the sun..please/please!
Betty, the old saying around here is, " if it's nice on the third of the month, the rest of the month will be nice". Don't know, how much truth, there is to that. But can always hope. ;0)
Had a nice sunny day here, but now starting to turn cloudy .
Starting to turn here as well, getting quite heavy actually..
We used to say that if March comes in like a LION it goes out like a LAMB or if it's comes in like a LAMB it will go out like a LION..we'll both have to watch which comes into play lol..
Be careful if you have to go out...
Although it looks quite clear and prospects of a beautiful day the newscasters are saying possible squawls from our area...
OMG I know this site is about weather but I cannot contain myself..
For the past (almost 1 year) I've been on a thread called
"The best/the worse and what did I learn today" and in that thread we've all made friendships that will last in our hearts forever..
Well, last night there was a post to say that a gift had been sent for my birthday which will be March 2nd and that I wasn't to open it until then, or, if I did I had to have a camera for photo's..well now this got me going..then in the post it said they knew it had arrived..how so, how could they know this..as I typed posts I started to think, we'll they know my last name is Pauze, they know I have a son who lives in the same town so perhaps they managed to call him and make arrangements for him to deliver something..so upstairs I go, looking throughout the house..NOTHING..so came back and posted, finally they told me 'GO TO YOUR FRONT DOOR' imagine, friends from all around the USA telling me to go to my front door..so off I went and there was sitting a rather large box..
Now what to do..OMG..posts galore all of a sudden, so much action on that thread, so through a vote I was to open the gift..but who would take the photo's so I called a friend across the street and asked if I could possibly come over with a camera and a parcel..now their curiosity was peaked so off I went...
Well girls I've got to go to work..long drive into the city..
Should any of you want to know what was in the box...here is the thread..fun starts on yesterdays' post...

How wonderful is that! You have made some awesome friends over there on that forum Betty :-)

Isn't it exciting..cried on my way to work this morning..so overwhelmed..
How absolutely delightful! The scarf & bracelet look great on you but the Tiara was certainly fitting for the occasion. Happy Birthday Betty.
Not till March 2nd, think those gals/guy got a little carried away, kept the secret since Dec. and couln't contain themselves any longer...
Betty, the tiara is really special. What a wonderful group of friends you have over in that forum. What a fab. surprise. I sometimes wonder if Dave has any idea what DG means to so many people, friendships made, knowledge about other parts of the world, not just plant chat.
Really great early birthday for you. Particularly love the painting.

Oh yes - weather - supposed to warm up tomorrow ... or Saturday.Currently -26 with bit of wind. Clean night to watch the moon last night.
Edited to add with windchill it is -33. Supposed to be -6 - totally tropical on Sat.
Don't know how it managed to be -2 in Whitehorse yesterday.

Ginny, March can dish out some nasty weather too, so Feb. isn't the end of it.
We've had no big snowfalls, just some flurries. Think I'll venture out to do some shopping today.
What a pleasure to get up knowing the ride in will be enjoyable..bitter cold but that's ok..one can always wear additional clothing..think Breakfast t.v. said it was -20 with wind chill..not as bad as last Monday with -34..they are calling for a beautiful weekend..won't it be nice to get some sun...perhaps the 1st of many..
Skies were very overcast last night so nope, didn't get to see it..
BBRRRRR it's cold out there! Not snowing though so another enjoyable ride to the city today...we only work 4 hrs...always laugh 1 1/2 to get there and 1 1/2 at best to get home - 3 hrs travel for 4 hrs. work..better not complain or my boss (BIL) will say we better work a full day...lol
Know there is a big storm coming though, there was a
'sun dog' around the moon last night..sure sign it's coming...
Hope weather in your next of the woods is showing signs of spring...
Mornin' Betty! Yes, I saw the sun dog too. The storm, right now anyway, is forecast to come in on Tuesday. It's supposed to be a biggy! But for now, light snow this morning, and partly to mostly sunny all weekend is the forecast with temps going up to -1C :-)
--Ginny
I would like to know why it is -23C(including windchill) here today and -1C YES -1C in Whitehorse, where the Yukon Quest ended in great sloppiness. Some races even have had to be cancelled (Haines). Hope it cools down before the Iditerod. Last year the Iditerod had to change the route. Global warming.....................
Picture from Tuktoyuktuk where the sun!!!! has now reappeared and it is still cold.

Lets see if this goes through.

Very cool pic inanda. I used to spend time in Tuk when I worked in the Arctic. I heard my first tulip siting in our area this morning. YIPPEE!!
Amazing image. Almost warm looking.
I'm hoping it doesn't rain or snow in the pass as I'm off to Seattle for the Northwest Flower & Garden Show later today. I was supposed to go to the seminar that Sally Fields is having but now I can't find the friend with the tickets. I'll take lots of pics & lookin' for a new garden in south Seattle to visit.
Crocus korolkowii
oh you are so lucky growin. I never missed the Seattle show when I lived in Vancouver. Please post pics. Thanks.
Got off work in Toronto at 1:00pm, stopped along the way and just got home, my goodness you can feel spring in the air, you can see excitement in people's walk..keep counting the last of the days of winter! Sure was nice for the sun to warm me up all afternoon..so enjoy driving when it's sunshine....
Sun, 3 days in a row, a record for this Winter.:0)
It turned cloudy around 4, now it's snowing :0(
My DH has also spent time in the Arctic - studying ice and has been to Tuk among other places. Interesting to see the pic.
We had a couple of cm of snow in Ottawa today. Fairly cold, but supposed to get warmer early next week.
Ann
It's a cold one this morning but the sky is clear and am sure the sun will be out shortly....might take Sailor and go for a walk, the excersize will do us both good..fresh air/fresh air....better put bird seed out am sure they'll be arriving any day!
Enjoy your day, may it be special!
Thank goodness it is warm enough to wear shorts....lol!
Beautiful picture, Ginny! I enjoyed viewing the album, let your son know he takes awesome pictures!
Never saw such a 'red' sunrise...wow so pretty..bright out today, no signs of snow..can't wait, can't wait for it to leave...went out and fed the birdies, you know spring is around the corner when they arrive and sing for the dinner...
Don't want to listen to the forcast for the next week in fear it spoils todays beauty..worry about tomorrow tomorrow right...
Enjoy your day..
Thanks Donna. I'll let him know. Sometimes I wish he were slightly further south so he could take decent pictures of my lilies and iris. He loves the north. Doesn't seem to matter if it is Siberia, Alaska or Canada, just has to be the north.
Ginny
Beautiful day today, and warm, it's melting!!! Like you Betty, I don't want to look at the forecast, just want to enjoy this Sun.
