Yes lots warmer your way ginny.Seeing blue skies really helps the moral. Sure hope, it's gonna warm up here soon. We've had those temp all week Brrrrrrrr. Lot of snow here too this winter, more then usual. I think Betty , had even more then we did. That last picture shows, so much fallin down .I'm glad Betty you didn't venture out.
Poor Sailor, don't blame her a bit.
What's it doing in your neighborhood today???
Cold here, too, but yesterday some wonderful sunshine and my trailing petunias have just germinated so all is well with the world.
I'm so glad I don't have to worry about driving in -34 like N.B. nor worry about my laurel hedges freezing--Vancouverites must always be nervous!
Just a little dig at you guys in lotus land...I'm allowed, since I was born there and lived there for more than half my life. And that's a LONG time.
Ok confess , how lon....g Chilko? You still didn't say HOW cold it was there? I want #. LOL
Great picture BTW. It gives me some idea of how cold. I can still see green. ;>)
Ok, so it's going to snow in Lotus land tomorrow and it's quite cold tonight (for us). I was out in the field attempting to identify miscellaneous deciduous nursery trees without tags all day. My fingers are still numb and the frost stayed. I can't say I've ever been too concerned about laurel hedges freezing other than snow load. It's all my New Zealand stuff, tree ferns, palms, bananas, etc that I'm worried about.
Here's a neat winter display @ VanDusen I took on Wednesday. I like the use of Cardoon and there's curly willow behind the urn.
So inviting...Mother Nature must be showing her age..little confused! lol..
After getting about 4 - 5 ft. of snow last week they are calling for freezing rain this afternoon and rain tomorrow...so goodness knows how much snow will be left b this weekend...
Love the photo's...
This morning at 730 official temp was -32C with wind chills -47C!
A touch warmer at my house - -25C LOL!
The sun is shing and I think the temp has gone up to about -29!
Supposed to be like this most of the week then I guess it will move east!
Love the truck..DB has one and his wife just did the paint job..now she's sketching gabling motif do paint...she does a beautiful job..I'll have to find out the make... don't you hate taking that beauty out when it's snowing??? I be terrified something would happen to it..
I'm terrified of other drivers, particularly in the city. "Mabelline" turned 50 this year. She's very handy for transporting bamboo, flats of annuals, bags of soil, etc. I just got a new garden plot downtown and I'll be using the truck alot. It's still trying to snow.
We are under blizzard warning tonight. -15°C/5°F feels like -29°C/-20°F. The wind is already howling out there. Always have to pay for the warm stuff, even if it was only for a few hours. Got lots of chocolate in the house, so all is well.
Well today is very mild - suppose to have a high of 5 celcius - that should melt some of the snow....
Mild in Ottawa, but likely freezing rain and/or snow (with more emphasis on the former). Yuk!
Yes, the schoolbuses are cancelled out here due to freezing rain warnings. It's exam week for my youngest son. I said to him, oh darn, more time to study!
Sandy
lol...mild coming into the city this morning, traffic heavy but roads were clear...had hoped for a 'freezing rain' day but no go...
Weatherman said that temps would quickly drop this aft. by 10 degrees -flash freeze..high winds of up to 100kl. and a bit of snow..so who knows what tomorrow will bring..just in case, I forward the office telephones to my home...worse senerio, I get to stay home and no-one knows the difference..now if only I could convince boss (BIL) to let me do that every day..not a chance...lol..
Hope you are all safe, nobody taking chances with driving..
Sounds like you have our storm Betrypauze.
On Sunday it was -7 in the morning the storm blew in and it was somewhere around -25 by suppertime!
wow, now that's a quick drop...surely there can't be any more snow up there in those clouds...lol..with mild temps about 3 weeks ago Georgian Bay did not freeze thus the heavy snowfall of last week..I'd rather have the cold than the snow..so let's see what today will bring..
-27C right now at the supper hour, -40C with windchill.
Two days of going out at noon to start my car to make sure it starts. That's getting old already...
Hilariously, it felt a bit warmer first thing this morning (-44C w/windchill) compared to yesterday at -49C!!
Joanne
Lucky you - mine wont even start!
Heard on the new today, that in Saskatchewan, they threw a cup of water in the air and instantly froze. Now that's cold.
-49!!! Brrrrrrr
Ours warmed up today, to a -4, they're announcing rain for tomorrow, maybe sleet later on. Quite a fluctuation in temp.
Holy smakers guys..now that cold...was high of 6 this morning and within the hour it's -2 and dropping quickly..flash freeze they say..so all that lovely melted snow on the roads now will be ice..no wonder your cars won't stop..it would be so easy to get frost bitten...
I make knitted dickies and attach deer hyde to the front for snowmobilers/ice fishermen/people out in the elements because the cold cannot penatrate the hyde..should have made more and sent them your way..lol
Usually leave for the city at 7am..takes about 1 1/2 hrs. to drive in good weather conditions...Suzanne SIL that I drive in with just called, we'll stay home until 8am and give it a go..that way roads should be frozen and sanders out..let's hope..but just incase that extra hour I have will be put to good use..going to pack a suitcase and if it doesn't improve by late aft. I'll get a hotel room....better safe than sorry!
Stay in, stay warm and most of all safe...
Oh Happy Days! Paul just called and said to stay put..weather is only going to get worse today..so, still in my jammies, have my pattern and glass just waiting to be turned into a 'lamp treasure' so will enjoy my day!
Clear and sunny today here. -47 at the mo (including wind chill). Supposed to be colder tonight and tomorrow. Where is a chinook AB. We don't really want you to send us this weather. More warmth please. Now am really hoping that new bearded iris under the snow will survive. Ah me. Time will tell. Maybe I should have grown them all inside instead of planting in the garden last Oct. Frostbite in 5 mins here, so radio says. Glad you stayed home today Betty.
PS. It really is funny. These long threads really do prove that Cdns. talk so much about WEATHER.
inanda aka the other Ginny
Wowzers!!! I couldn't believe how cccccold it got after the flash freeze we had today!! The wind was piercingly cccccold!!!!
Stay safe fellow Canadians and stay warm too!!!! A nice glass of wine in front of the fireplace should do it - cheers!
We did get the rain, and tonight freezing rain. announcing mild for the next couple of days.
We were right on the southern edge of the storm in Blyth (near Goderich). Looking good today, but there is apparently another storm tracking in from Texas tonight that could bring major accumulation of snow blah blah blah. Sighhh - this is getting tiresome!
--Ginny - not inanda :-)
Nice day today. Good thing. DH is coming home from Norway and two good friends are flying out of Ottawa. Yesterday or tomorrow, they likely would have faced delays. They promise us 20 cm of snow tomorrow. Am hoping the sun on the driveway today will loosen up the ice I didn't get off of it yesterday.
Ann
Warming up a bit here - probably can walk the dogs today but said to be cold again by nightfall!
Morning, heavy snow leaving for the city this morning, 1/2 way the sun came out..now tomorrow is a different story.. Breakfast Television that comes on at 6am is coming on at 5am tomorrow so they can give updates to the mega storm which will be arriving later today..we usually work 4hrs on Friday..so 1 1/2 hr drive in-4hrs work/ 1 1/2 hrs. home..makes for the better part of the day..had morning scheduled for a meeting..Paul (BIL-boss) just told us he ordered pizza, we'll have the meeting this aft. and most likely be off tomorrow..wow..yesterday and tomorrow..had to come in was PAYDAY today..and best of all..pays us for weather days..that's a plus..
So do hope you are all warm and snuggy..don't take any chances out there...
Weather watch on in our region again..leaving for the city perhaps at 7:30 -8:00am rather than our 7:00am in hopes that heavy volume traffic subsides...
Understand the storm is crossing most of Ontario and eastern provinces so do stay safe...
Snuggle in with your favorite garden magazine and dream of days to come! lol
LOL DH tried to tempt me into staying home this morning but the weather just wasn't bad enough here yet to justify it. We'll be keeping a close eye on it though. Could be another early drive home for us if we need to try to outrace the storm.
Stay safe - don't take any chances!
Did start out this morning..by the time we passed Coldwater (about 10 miles from home) boss called to say he was in Innisfil and you couldn't see..then they were calling for yet more bad weather for aft. soooo got to turn around and come home..just watching Achannel news..looks wicked out there..getting pretty bad, don't think I've had a full week since 1st week in Dec...boss pays us for days off though, the 'sweetie'...lol
Hope you are all home and safely in the house to enjoy your evening..
It is currently snowing here. You can all point and laugh.
Well...maybe just a little discreet giggle will do :-)
It took us only about 30 minutes longer than usual to get home from work this afternoon - roughly 100 km. Everyone had slowed down and were behaving themselves on the highway - we didn't see a single vehicle in the ditch.
Snow has been falling here for about 3 hours at a rate of 5 cm per hour, and the storm isn't supposed to let up until around midnight or possibly later. If the rate stays steady that will put us at about 35 cm before it slows down.
On the positive side, at least we're not getting the freezing rain the more southerly areas are being hit with, and we're home safe and sound.
growin - I'll let me daughter who lives in Vancouver but who grew up here in Ottawa do the laughing except she's got to get to work in Vancouver. I think I heard something about 8 or 9 pieces of snow removal equipment in your entire fair city, whereas here in Ottawa they had several hundred pieces out last Friday.
Hee hee. Okay that's enough.
It got to about +2C today; chinooking, quite a change from a week ago.
Stay warm and safe everybody!
Joanne
Well, we did indeed get the whole 35 cm, if not more. DH has been out shovelling and snowblowing for over an hour already and hasn't even made much of a dent in it. We won't be travelling to work today. Sure is purty though - all sparkly and white :-)
Got ready to leave, couldn't open back door for snow..waiting for plow before we can leave..might leave more towards the 9am so that roads have been cleared and all those in ditches, accidents etc. have been removed...decided for my back area that I'd just make a quick pass with shovel and once my plowman has been here my neighbor can use the snowblower..did the yard late last night and this is what I have since then....
Do be safe...
Yep, you're looking like us. We received between 20 and 24 inches of snow last night. It's hard to be exact with all the drifting that happened. We're still not finished digging out, but we're getting closer!
all open, even did back shed...perhaps it's not a bad idea
to live in a ap. or have small yard..banks almost touching hydro lines..but feels good to be safe inside...
Partly sunny today, but another storm in the forecast for Sunday. DH don't know, where to put the snow anymore. He's fed up with it.
