You're right Ginny. Pam's winter weather postings were often my first clue that I needed to be prepared to leave work in a hurry to make the drive home safely.
What's it doing in your neighborhood today???
I'll have to save all of our weather posts BECAUSE I just know come summer we'll be complaining of the heat...will we??? lol
I am soooooo a child of the sun! You will very, very rarely hear me complain about heat and/or humidity. Unless I'm doing so on behalf of whichever plants I have at the time that are suffering horribly from it :-)
I'll remind you of that Ginnylynn come summertime..lol
Love the heat as well..I could live out in my garden..
I've been looking at so many magazines looking for garden art ideas that as soon as I can get to my woodworking equipment I'll be off...was checking out LeeValley which is the next block over to where I work and they have metal units that you just slip into each other and can create a raised star flower bed with second lair to it..tempting..probably about $150-$200 to do it..but how nice it would be...maybe for Mother's Day..how many clues will I have to give my sons do you think?
You and I have woodworking in common as well - kewl!
Here's an easy way to give kids clues if they have email.
1) Go to the Lee Valley web site http://www.leevalley.com/home.aspx
2) Create a free user account.
3) Create a Wish List - here's how to do it:
> add things you would like to your shopping cart
> once you have everything in your cart go to "View Cart"
> instead of checking out click the "Move to Wish List" button next to each item
4) Make sure you are logged in. View your wish list.
5) Set your "Family and Friends Access" levels and update it by clicking the button.
6) Click on the "Announce Your Wish List" button. It formats an email containing a link to the list and sends it to you when you click on "Send Email". Then you can forward that email from your inbox to anyone you want :-)
LOL Can you tell I have a wish list already?
Sounds as though you've done this before...
I probably have more tools than most men...
If it's a saw I have it..lol
Boys would laugh at Christmas...Roger would get the latest in cooking utensils and I would scream with excitement finding a new tool...
Boys would say 'what's wrong with this picture'....lol
hee hee Last year I got a brand new scroll saw for Christmas and the year before that I got one of those little electric sanders - something to do with mouse? My DH got things like a programmable 4 element cooking timer, put utensil holders, and a mandoline. LOL For his birthday he got a brand new vacuum cleaner and he was just tickled pink.
Oh my....I'm laughing so hard I have tears running down my face. Gotta run - time to leave for home.
Where you iz ginnylynn? if it's any of my business. :)
Got the news today that we're in for a giant storm here in the GTA on Sunday.
Spring is coming.
Spring is coming.
Well at least it will be on Sunday and Monday a holiday so won't be driving in it...can you tell me when spring is here???
I live in Blyth Joan, which is roughly 100 km north of London. If you know where Goderich is we're about 25 km east of there.
Both DH and I work in London, so we drive highway 4 every day. It's kind of like Bettypause's drive on the 400 - wide open so the wind really plays havoc with any snow that's either falling or on the ground already. Frequent winter driving problems are heavy drifting and whiteouts.
We got all the way up to -4 in London today - it felt positively balmy and, yes, had me thinking spring :-)
Happy Valentines Day!
Just peeked out the window..not snowing, no blowing, everyone is sleeping while a blanket of frosted glittering snow awaits them...
Not calling for snow in my area today but understand we could have some in Toronto..let's hope it waits till we get home before it starts and hopefully it will be 'blizzard' time about 6am to 10am morning time..sure do want that 4 week holiday..lol..
Love the photo's of the flowers...one can only dream of them at this point...on my way home last night I picked up 25 pkgs of seed before the good pkgs. are gone..so ready for spring...
Have a great day!
Happy Valentine's Day to you too, and to everyone else here.
Yes, it's clear in my neck of the woods today too. We never did get the promised snow yesterday or last night.
Keep those pictures coming growin! Think spring everyone!!!!! Maybe if we all concentrate hard enough we can make it happen :-)
--Ginny
Oh! How unique and unusual - I love it. It reminds me of huge ants all over the branch.
Yet another snow day..thought we'd make working a full week, not had one since early December, but "Mother Nature" stepped in (with prayers today) to give us a 4 day weekend...
Would say be got 6 to 8" last night..calling for major storm coming in late Sat. so when I see a clearing later today I'll be off getting all my groceries/craft supplies so I can enjoy an inhouse long weekend...lol..
Be safe, am sure many of you are having the same kind of day..
Outside my back door this morning...
4 - 10 cm in Ottawa last night. Supposed to stop soon though. Have hopes for a good weekend for the last weekend of Winterlude.
Ann
Lovely! It has a soft, innocent, and delicate look about it. You have an artist's talent growin!
I can only dream of rain right now :-)
Chinooking here again. +11C right now. Roads are a heck of a mess with all the melting going on.
Enjoyed a bevie on our back steps this afternoon...springs just around the corner!!
Joanne
Grow_Jo, want to move to your neck of the woods..calling for yet a major storm to arrive tomorrow night and last a couple of days...
All are dreaming of their lovely gardens..can you not feel the excitement..beautiful photo's shown, just love them...
Thanks for a brief glimpse at what is to come!
Never saw one before, are they a 'shrub'??
It's a cold one out there this morning, even Sailor didn't want to go out nor the cats.. got all my supplies so if I'm housebound for the weekend I'll have plenty to eat and do...won't start snowing till later today!
Do have a great day..
Betty, it's a Witch Hazel and it's more like a small tree. The leaves turn a gorgeous colour in the fall and it flowers this time of the year. I have an orange, a yellow and a red one. ;-)
The storm watch for Ontario indicates we could get any mixture of snow, freezing rain, and/or rain starting Sunday morning, depending on how far north the storm centre tracks. It's coming in from Texas apparently. If it stays to the south of the Great Lakes we'll get more snow and not much freezing rain. If it tracks to the northern edges of the lakes we'll get more freezing rain and not much if any snow. If it tracks beyond the northern shores of the lakes we'll end up with mostly rain. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
We had a bit of rain this morning, then a bit of snow. But just balmy out there at -5°C. Freezing rain warning still on for my area.
I was out at the nursery taking cuttings of Cornus yesterday and the planes were flying quite low. It was almost like spring showers with heavy rain, stop, heavy rain, etc. I don't know about you but I always get confused on the colour-twig Cornus and trying to describe the difference in colour isn't easy, especially when the difference is minimal. I got a bunch of good shots and I'll be doing some image work with the cut stems.
Cornus sericea 'Flaviramea'
Lucky, lucky you visiting nurseries...we'll just spend about 1 1/2 hrs. shovelling out..snow has stopped, sun is shinning so thought I'd better get the snow from back storage area cleaned before next snowfall..it's really quite heavy..good snowman building snow..lol..I'm not that cheary with it at this point...wow..this old gal needs a coffe (should be a drink) and warm bath...cheeks sure are rosie...
hope you are enjoying your day!
It was a lovely day today, but we're supposed to get the freezing rain, warming to regular rain tomorrow sometime midday, I think. I hope it warms quickly.
Ann
-17 here this afternoon, don't know how low it go last night, but heard -30. Sun was out though, but very crisp. Your snow must be heading our way again Betty and Ginny, work in harmony and blow it off, in a different direction please.
We're keeping our fingers crossed that the freezing rain has a chance to melt by the morning - although the kids and most (?) people will be off enjoying our new statutory holiday!
Growin, what kind of image work will you be doing with the cut Cornus stems?
Sandy
LOL I'd be happy to try to blow the snow in another direction -- preferably well north where it belongs (in my humble opinion)!
We had the freezing rain start early this morning, and it turned everything into a skating rink here. It has changed to rain now, but I think there is more nastiness on the way later this evening or overnight.
I'm very happy that I don't have to go anywhere until Tuesday.

burn_2007 - your snow piles look a lot like ours. Been a long time since the banks between driveways have been twice as tall as I am. But I'd take your -24 in preference to the freezing rain that is coming down now. It started early afternoon and it now coating all streets and parking lots. Hope it doesn't move on in your direction.
Ann
Sure hope, you don't have to go out in it, Ann. Stay safe.
I hate Ice, I've taken so many falls in the pass, am now full of Arthritis. I prefer snow over Ice anytime. It's been a very unusual winter for snow fall, here too.
shorts and t shirt working in the yard today, the crocus and snowdrops are blooming
