Been outside at 6pm & 8pm last night, again at 2a.m.-6a.m. and 9:am...last Sunday I was picking up tree branches from the yard and burning them...now I'm lucky to find the house let alone any yard work..lol
What's it doing in your neighborhood today???
Well, I don't feel so bad now Betty - thought we'd gotten a lot of snow this weekend - but we don't have nearly as much snow as you do! It's -29C with the windchill here right now....brrr
Joanne
I wouldn't dream of laughing at your snow shovelling garb Betty. You should see my Nanook of the North look :-)
You have a lot more snow than we do too. Did you not lose much during the early January thaw, or have you just had that much more since?
We're under a snow squall warning for today and tonight - an extension of last night's warning. I think we're in between bands off Lake Huron though. Most of the snow is hitting just north and just south of us. We're getting mostly high winds blowing around the snow we've already got. It's about -12C right now on the thermometer, but I have no idea what the wind chill is and I don't care LOL, since I don't plan on going outside at all today.

Betty, I think you look quite fashionable indeed! Very cute. That's some snowbank! We had a ton of snow and lost about two feet of it in that thaw Ginny mentioned .... but we still have lots. Very cold here today, also. It dropped to -26C last night. Nice to see the sunshine though.
Sandy
We're -31C right now with a wind chill warning. We have a good snow cover, but nothing like Betty's yard. A lot of the snow in our yard is from drifting. Big winds last week.
Whatever - it's winter and that's what to expect in Manitoba. But I'll be glad when this snap is over. I worry about the feral cats that are sheltering out in our shed. The heater quit in their hut the other night and we had to find something else. Thank goodness my son checked it when he did.
Remember F°? Doesn't -20F° sound better. This C° is making it sound colder.
It's 16F here, no snow and the sun is shining brightly. Supposed to be flurries, but I don't see any so far.
~marilyn
Yikes! That sounds cold. I'd probably wither-up into a ball - and here I am complaining about the frost and rain.
I think we've had some frost but its a bit sunny now. I noticed on my walk yesterday that there are quite a few Geraniums and Fuchsia 'Garten Meister' around the neighbourhood that are still growing. Wonder why mine toasted. Yesterday - Trachycarpus wagnerianus @ English Bay
Can hardly believe that last Sunday I was picking up branch debris and burning it in the pit..not one ounce of snow..then within 2 days..voila...enough for all of you..it's stopped snowing right now, thank goodness..towing company was here to boost my car (brand new) so it must have been cold..off to take it for a drive in hopes that I increase battery power...so, if any of you would like snow, I can ship some out..lol
Just watched the news..expecting another 2 - 3' of snow tonight and tomorrow..Hwy.400 has over 100 car pile-up..people stranded..buses and acting as ambulance..no one died (yet)..dreadful...so, can be thankful for being inside, not looking forward to the 100 mile drive to work in the morning on same hwy.
We'll see!
Oh Bettypauze it sounds like Monday would be a snow day for me! Can't you take the day off because of the weather?
Our weather is absolutley tropical compared to yours, it's about 2-3 above 0*C but the wind is almost enough to blow me over, branches are down all over. The snowdrops are up and blooming.
Stay warm
Tried to make it to work this morning ..took 2 hours to do 25kl..called the boss and turned around..not worth our life..had just shovelled before I left and got back to almost a foot of snow..I've been out at least 3 times since 9am, and cannot keep up with it..roads aren't cleared, municipal guys taking turns because its 24hr. ploughing..my guy just came and said he's running out at most places where to put the snow..
It is -28 and they estimate by the time today is done we'll surely have 3' to 4'...everybone in my body right now is aching..lots of shovelling for a 59 almost 60 year old lady..maybe I'll just let it accumulate and get out in the spring..
Yesterday they say there were almost 60 sent to hospital from the 400 accident..you'd have thought we'd be smart enought not to have tried it, but we did...
They also had the 400 extension closed off..which is just down the road from us..tractor trailer couldn't see, got on the ramp going in the wrong direction, so police closed a section as to allow him to get his rig off..
So, keep safe..if it's snowing in your area..enjoy your day in the house...not worse your life!!!
Betty I am glad you are back at home, safe. That's just too much shoveling for anyone. Can you wait it out and get someone to blow/clear you out when it's all over?
Have a guy with a plow that does my driveway which is over 125' but from the drive to the house and then the back deck area where I have a downstairs entrance that I use I must do it myself..
Kind of smiled, 2 young lads about 12 were walking down the road with shovels, now I had the front area probably 1/2 done when I saw them with their shovels, said they were looking for work..I would say it would take 10 minutes at most, probably less with 2 and they wanted $15.00 so told them I'd continue with my shovelling..is it me who is getting too old to appreciate how much things cost??? anyway, it's done..almost time to go out and give it another round...
Thanks for listening..
Cold here today, but three of us are going to get out snowshoeing for the first time. too busy before Christmas when we had gobs of snow and lousy weather for it so far in January.
Tomorrow, we are supposed to get the snow.
Ann
Hi Betty,
Was thinking about you and the snow and 400 this AM. Glad you turned around and went home. SAFELY. Pix on TV re 400 looked terrible. Glad nobody was killed.
Am sure you have gear/munchies in your vehicle just in case ........ Now there are cellphones too.
I spent the night on the 400 in a car with 4 year old one friday night on the way to Collingwood, many many years ago. We curled up in our sleeping bags till OPP arrived the next morning. A soldier died that night, carbon monixide from running his engine.
It is so cold here that I'm staying off the roads till Thursday, when it is supposed to warm up to -9C, toasty compared to today. We missed the snow. Maybe because it is too cold to snow here. We have lots anyway so all plants here are cosily covered.
Guess that Sandy and Viola Ann will be next.
inanda aka the other Ginny
We got hit with 24 cm of snow yesterday but unusual for us, it was not windy! Thus, it did not seem like a storm from Newfoundland standards. Today is sunny but d**m cold! Only -12 C now and suppose to drop to -16 C tonight...that will be the coldest so far this winter. On the plus side, it is suppose to hit +5 on Wednesday!
+5. How balmy for you Todd
And here on the supposed "wet" west coast, it got very chilly last night and it is only supposed to be +3 today. My pond is frozen over. On the plus side, the sky is blue and the sun is shining.
Finally stopped snowing about an hour ago..maybe it's my last shovelling for tonight.. going to listen to the 6pm news to see what the weatherman is predicting for tonight and tomorrow...lordy that's a lot of snow in a couple of days..think I got the snow that all of you wanted..or did you???lol.....
Was so nice visiting with you .. makes one think they have company, except I don't have to make you goodies for your tea...and believe me, you are lucky there because most anything I cook has a charred look to it..my boys and grandchildren say I'm the only person they know who burns water....
Betty, sure glad you turned around. Not worth risking our lives in weather like that. Glad to hear no one died in the pile up. Sorry you had so much shoveling to do, you really got hit with lots of snow, wow.
Our temp, is -23 right now, but is suppose to drop with windchill factor to -35 or - 38 tonight. They're telling people to bring in their animals. Can't wait for it to warm up.
growin, that's cheating - showing snow covered mountains as the backdrop to your picture. LOL That doesn't count at all!
...but there was frost.
Beautiful sunny day here today. Makes the snow sparkle. Sky is the bluest blue. High today of -22°C, present temps -24°C.
Betty, hope you made it safely to work today, if you went.
Ohhhhhhh, there was frost! Well then, that's different :-)
You're making me shiver Brenda! We (touch wood) have not yet had to deal with the extreme cold this year - just lots of snow and winds whipping up some nasty windchill. Plenty of time left yet though.
How's things up your way Betty?
Sunny and cold today with winds gusting to 70 km! I think the wind chill is -27 C! Looks like we will get yet another dump of snow tomorrow before it goes above freezing for a couple of hours!
Lots of snow in Ottawa today, but a bit milder than the last couple of days. While I was at aquafit, I accumulated about an inch of snow in my car and it's still coming down.
Ann
Hello there..well, the heavens have opened again..we left for work at 7am and didn't get there until 11:00 am - 4hrs in the vehicle traveling between 10 and 35 mph in most areas..hwy 400 extension wasn't even plowed..we were in contact with boss who tried to call us to say go back but Suzanne had forgotten to turn her phone on..by the time he reached us we were almost there...so we answered out calls, got some files and homeward bound we came..long drive..snowing and blowing..
Paul (BIL-Boss) told us to pack a bag tomorrow and spend the night in a hotel..that's ok however I've animals at home so am calling around just incase to cancel the painting class I teach Wedn. nights and also to find a housekeeper for the night/day...
Paul came over to plow my drive and push back the banks as the man I have hasn't had any sleep since Sat. (truly) and told me, you've a clean yard..he did that 30 minutes or so before I got home..well there has to be 5" at least in the drive again..
Thought I'd get comfy but decided to go shovel, then bath and p.j.'s...
Do hope you've enjoyed your day and thanks for the concern...appreciated..
AND for our visit together must show you my burnt muffins...it's ok I burnt the roast as well...no supper last night nor was there breakfast treats..lol
Growin - nice shot!!
Wasn't it spectacular today again - too bad I was inside in an office. These clear, crisp, sunny surprises make the waiting through the rainy days all the more special. I was tempted to skip the Vitamin D and go to Stanley Park.
Being an ex-Ottawa native, I know those in the snow enjoy their snowfall measurements and winter hardship stories, when nobody gets hurt that is. Proves how tough we Canucks are. Hang in there East-of-Rockies gardeners! May 24 th is on its' way!
It was a beautiful day - sunny, blue sky but sharp and crisp. My ponds been frozen for over a week. So this is what everyone else gets while we're gloomed under constant cloud cover & rain. Its given me a good chance to get out and take lots of pics. Check out this Grevillea victoria yesterday at UBC Botanical Garden.
It was a bit warmer here today, thank Heavens, and snowed a bit, so that was fine. I feel very sorry for those north of me who have so much shovelling to do. A little bit of that makes it feel like winter, but it gets old really fast.
I'm lucky - I get to work at home, so don't have to go out most days if I don't want to. And since I live in the city and snow doesn't stick around too long, I never get snow tires, so I'm sure glad I wasn't on the highway these past few days.
Counting my blessings . . .
~marilyn
** and no, I don't know what this one is either. I'm pathetic, I know . . .
I envy you your weather...well had to make a decision this past 1/2 hr. .. had a upset tummy thinking about taking the road this morning..I can't even find my car...imagine...so much shovelling to do..
Suzanne called to say she'd be leaving in 20 minutes, so just told her I wasn't feeling well and would stay in bed today...am sure my white lie (but really I am nauceous..) will put me in hell...lol...
If I get on those roads today there could be a chance of going there...
Anyway, Sailor wanted out, she didn't go far as you can see in my photo...
Glad you stayed home today Betty. The G&M says stay off the roads today yet again. More drama on the 400.
inanda
A lovely, if chilly, day here in Ottawa today. Bright sun. Don't know how much snow we got yesterday, but the snowbanks are nice and high again.
Ann
Finally, blue sky and sunshine today, at least here in Toronto..had a few flurries leaving home this morning...let's hope the sunshine travels north..
-34C this morning around 9:30, the car won't start, the birds were all fluffed up and trying hard to keep warm. It's sunny though , good for my head.
-13C at 6:30 this morning, with windchill -26. A lot warmer than you are burn!
Seeing blue skies is a major mood lifter isn't it? If nothing else, at least it means it's not snowing. LOL For the second time this year we have as much snow as we accumulated all last winter, and I have to say I don't like it at all - even if my plants are well protected!
