CLOSED: Second Chance Wishlist #4
Crit -- That is pretty! I had no idea they were so quick from seed. I need to open up a nrsery in June only. "Take These Seedlings" Nursery LOL! Let me check my stash and see if I have red or rose before I start asking on the thread.
Jax, Let me see if I have it....I have to look under E for Eyeball, T for toothache and also S for Spilanthes. LOL!
Let me ask first, does anybody have Eyeball plant seeds ready to go? (Not that I'm lazy, but......)
Suzy
Starlight.......you are joking, right?
Illoquin, you deserve a break!
SUZY-did you get me for the Joseph's coat??
Susybell-gotcha for the Zinnia & Chinese houses-is that right or chinese lanterns??
I had eyeball plant and cat already called dibs, sorry, gopefully Suzy has some.
Joyce -- a week ago i said i was DONE too.... i think i've gotten seeds from 3 others since.
as Suzy says.... you're never done in one of her swaps.
I know the Eyeball plant was mentioned not long ago, cuz i noticed it this morning and had to take a peek...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4390953
Robynznest has it in her list
ops.... guess we were posting at the same time.
Hi Critter! :)))
Ansonfan...
this seems to be an unresolved issue, you might find this interesting:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/439743/thread/1185153329/last-1185341018/Ipomoea+luteola+vine+is+getting+visited
seems like I've seen hearts and honey identified as ipomoea hederifolia var. luteola with heights from 5-6' all the way up to 10' depending on what site you visit
and orange morning glory seems to be identified as ipomoea coccinea 10-12 ft
then North Carolina University identifies cardinal climber as hearts and honey ipomoea x multifida 10-20'
Hi gang - just wanted to let you know I will be placing the Baker Creek order Tuesday AM - I currently am including requests from Sue and Wind - if you want to piggyback on my order please dmail me.
Robin
http://rareseeds.com/
That's the one that I had last year, I've never seen an orange one so really had to look at it just thought it was a weed but I had other morning glories planted there so guess they were in the seed, I had a bad year for morning glories last year I planted about 12 varieties from trades and only about two were true lol It is a pretty litle thing!
Thank you for the info Wind. I had run up on some of that info as well and wondered if the jury was in or out. I guess its both lol, depending on where you live.
thanks
Then what is Orange Noah? Plant Files sort of lists lit like this
Ipomoea coccinea
ORANGE NOAH or WILD RED Morning Glory
Annual Vines and Climber
All parts of plant are poisonous if ingested
Hi Fairy,
Thank you so much, and yes, houses! I think it will be fun to say I've got Chinese houses in my yard. Maybe next year I'll get lanterns and grow them next to each other (well, maybe if the lanterns weren't orange....)
Hi Suzy, I meant to say Orange Noah instead of orange morning glory
same as what you said: Ipomoea coccinea
Dryad I have a couple more add on's, I'll dmail you tomorrow am :) one of the things I want to add are fava beans http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/803331/

Today was a break :) I dowed seed I grow under lights today, and tomorrow Dryad is coming over to help me make sense of the WZ seeds.
If anybody has any perennial geranium seeds, Wz is looking for them.
Okay, I found Eyeball plant and it has your name on, it Joyce.
Fairy, on the Amaranthus, the best I can do is have you write it on your wishlist -- the one that is on a piece of paper you send in with your seeds....I don't have the seeds to tag for you.
Guess that's all I have to report,
Suzy
Time for Illoquin to go to bed. Sweet dreams!
starlight, I am in love with BESV, but I only have the regular orangey-yellow, so if you still have, I would love it
Thunbergia " Blushing Suzie" 1 trade this one more of the rose colored ones
Hi Pam, thank you! I'm working on an updated list of stuff that I'll be posting in a bit. Please let me know if I have anything else you would like?
Ansonfan, did I remember to thank you for the herbs? If I didn't, sorry about that, and thank you!
Does anyone know of a good shade flowering plant that attracts butterflies and hummers?
I get hummers at my place in Wisc, and have seen some cool butterflies... but would like to provide plants for them to attract more.
My hummers love the impatiens -- just the regular ones from the garden center -- but the Impatiens have to be TALL enough, so it's always at the end of the summer. I think I usually get Accent.
Generally speaking, butterflies like the sun, don't they?
Suzy
Susybell,
Do you have any of these left that you can tag for me?
Tropaeolum minus, Nasturtium 'Whirlybird Cherry Rose'
Browallia americana 'Blue Lady'
Lobularia maritima, Alyssum - Oriental Nights
Salvia coccinea, red 2 trades
Papaver somniferum, Imperial Pink
Susy, Yes! I do want this, please----> Vancouveria Hexandra, Inside-out flower, PNW native deciduous groundcover, related to Epimedium
Susy, Tuinkabouter asked me if she could have several trades of this: Trachymene coerulea, Blue Lace Flower.
Thanks,
Suzy
Hi Suzy,
My head is spinning and I want to make sure I do this just right!
Do you want a second trade of the Browallia, Nasty, and Alyssum in addition to what I've already got saved for you?
I don't know if I have any of the nasturtium left. I ordered it for me right before I signed up to do this and it hasn't arrived yet. I don't want to promise any more than I already have until it's here and I find out how many seeds I got.
Salvia coccinea -Seandor has already requested some. I've got two trades left.
Plenty of the Papaver Imperial pink so I will put you down for some of that, too. How many trades? I've got several left.
I chatted with Tuink about the Trachymene coerulea in dmail and have already promised her a couple-does she want an additional couple of them? IF she wants more, then I think that will take care of all the rest of it, which is fine, I just need to be sure I know what I need to do! No way do I want to mess this up! :)
Suzy...(Generally speaking, butterflies like the sun, don't they?)
To warm their wings, yes. But, I noticed this year, alot of butterflies were prefering to nectar in the shade.
But, then again, it might be cause it gets pretty hot around here, sometimes.
Susy, No, I don't need doubles of anything, I just saw from your list that some people were written down and some weren't...I thought (maybe) you didn't see my post.
If you need more Nasturtium, of a different kind, dmail me. I have some I bought this year, but I don't remember the names.
Tuinkabouter's note to me said something along the lines of "can take all there is", meaning all that comes in untagged, not to take away from anyone. Since she is sending 123 packs, each of them tagged for a person who really wants the seed, I figure I'd better make her happy. LOL!
Are you having fun?
Blue, I didn't really see them in the shade at all here, even in the heat of the day. Of course that isn't really valid because if it's too hot, I am inside, not out looking for butterflies! LOL!
All, Okay I guess that's it for the night. Your seeds are all snug in their little snack bags. Dryad will be here in the morning to help me with WZ seeds and your wishlists. I sure hope we can find what we need to find!
Suzy
I will be praying for both of you. lol : )

Why don't I send you my completely updated "taken" list by dmail?

Susybell, I'd be interested in trying Lobularia maritima, Alyssum - Oriental Nights if you have any left :)
Ansonfan and Wind, here's a thread from the MG forum that discusses the differences between Ipomoea coccinea and I. hederifolia - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/786584/ I cross-posted the posts you two made above to give them some background to the question - hope y'all don't mind - but I'm curious, too.
Scroll down to Ron's post where he explains with pictures. Evidently, seedpods of I. coccinea point down while seed pods of I. hederfolia point up. The two species can also be told apart from each other by other differences having to do with 1) presence of pedicel wings on I. hederifolia but not on I. coccinea - especially noticeable when seed pods are getting close to maturity, and 2) the distance to which sepals cover ripe seed pods. Ron's post describes these features in more exact detail.
----------------------
Suzy, thanks for letting us know that Weez is looking for perennial geraniums. I have a small amount of Geranium lancastriense 'John Elsley' seed saved from last year left that I can give to her. As far as I can tell from the volunteers, the seed seems to come true. Cultivars of Geranium sangiuneum make great companions to other perennials because they make low carpets that complement a taller plant.
Suzy, what else is Weez looking for? I'd rather share seed after I grow it out to where I can harvest seed from the plant, rather than share seed from the seed exchanges I'm in, but in her case I can make an exception, if there are any packets with enough packets to do that.
-----------------------------
tcs - here are two groups of plant lists - one for hummingbirds (http://www.hummingbirdworld.com/h/gardens.htm#midwest ) and one for butterflies (http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/butterflies/butterfly_index.html). The one for butterflies gives sun/partial shade exposure for each plant.
Here's a few to start with that attract both butterflies & hummers:
Digitalis purpurea (Foxglove)
Heuchera sp. (Coral Bells)
Hostas
Lobelia cardinalis
Monarda sp. (Bee Balm)
thanks blue :)
thank you bluespiral for the mg info
Susybell-I have toad lily added in for you-'Samurai'
