(Terry, the banner went away after I responded.)

Good morning, everyone.

I couldn't sleep tonight. It's 2:30am and I woke up a while ago and couldn't go back. You know how your mind goes where it wants to no matter what you tell it? My brother and his wife are asleep and the house is very quiet. I thought I might share some things with you.

When I woke, I started thinking, of course, about dad. His interment is tomorrow. We picked up the urn today along with the small one I'll be taking home. I sat looking at it for a while and then got on the computer.

I was thinking...A person's life has come to this. A one foot tall urn that weighs nothing. My dad was not a small man and I could not have carried him in life. I could not have picked him up as easily as I did when I brought him in the house. Is this all that is left? A man who spent his life walking and talking, caring for friends and laughing at stupid jokes? Eating and sleeping, going on vacations, fishing, watching the news and making phone calls and walking the dog?

No. That's not all. We have memories of good times. We have the part of him that goes on. We have each other. People say all the time that things don't make a person but it's true, no matter how over-used one might think the saying is. When I brought that urn in the house, I brought an entire life with me. I brought a generation with me. I brought what a person is when they die. I said I couldn't carry dad's body when he was alive but I can carry what's left when he's gone. I can carry it and pass it one to others that can carry it when I'm finished.

Am I making any sense? I don't know. It's early and I could just be rambling. Thanks for listening to an old lady who's crying at a computer and missing her daddy. I'm going to go back to bed now. I feel better.

Thanks for being here and if any of this didn't make sense, I'm sorry. I love all of you. Take care, have a good day and I'll be back tomorrow.

Good night.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

((((((Hugs)))))) Still trying to let you breathe :o) I like what you wrote and it makes sense to me Celia

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Celia, I have an aunt, who's 9 months and 3 days younger than I am. You can imagine the jokes we shared over that one. I say I have an aunt, because in my heart, no matter in life or death, she's still my aunt. She passed away last May 18th at the young age of 47, of cirrhosis of the liver. She started drinking at a very young age and she became addicted. But that addiction, even though for the most part it ran her life, didn't really make Sue who she was. She was the sweetest girl a person would want to meet. She was also cremated. Her ashes are to be spread in the same lake as her dad, my grandfather. What you're feeling, I understand perfectly. And I miss Sue also. She was more of a sister to me than my own sister is, which is an entirely different story ☺

Pssst.....that banner is still here for me. No matter where I go, it doesn't go away....☻

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Celia, every bit of that made sense to me! I can say that I am proud that you can come here and 'vent' to all of us and get it off your chest! Still sending you hugs, but I lightened up a little bit so you can breathe better!
Love ya Girlfriend! :)

PSSSST, Terry, it is gone for me right now, but I bet it is back in just a second!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

OH OH OH It is gone! LOL Prob just my pooter, though! HE HE HE

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

The banner is gone for me, too, Terry. It must be "haunting" you--LOL

Everything you said made sense Celia, and there is no reason to apologize for expressing your feelings. I'm glad you were able to get some of those emotions out and that the tears did flow. Tears are a catharsis for our emotional bodies--better to let them flow than to keep them bottled up. As I said in an earlier post, there are a lot of shoulders for you to lean on here. We love you.
Mau

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Terry, still gone here! :)

Hi, Mau-good morning to ya! What does catharsis mean?

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Good morning, Tammy! Here is the definition of catharsis from Answer.com dictionary:
Medicine. Purgation, especially for the digestive system.
A purifying or figurative cleansing of the emotions, especially pity and fear, described by Aristotle as an effect of tragic drama on its audience.
A release of emotional tension, as after an overwhelming experience, that restores or refreshes the spirit.

In Celia's case, her "catharsis" would pertain to the last part of the definition. You will notice that in her post above she said that she felt better after being able to express her feelings about her dad and that she was "crying at her computer". Well, she was releasing the emotional tension which built up in her after an overwhelming experience (her dad's death) and hopefully, her spirit is now somewhat restored and refreshed, although that is an ongoing process and not something that happens all at once.

My goodness, just listen to me: "Doctor Mau"!!

anytime you need to know the definition of a word you can just "google" it and the answer will come up--pretty neat, huh? You don't even have to buy a dictionary!! LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Terry, if you are still hanging around--I forgot to ask you, ---Did the floor refinishers make it to your house today?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Mau! When I took Business & Office Technology we had to learn a new word each week, but this wasn't one of em! LOL My favorite one that I can member is discombobulated! We all started using it once we learned the definition.
Doctor Mau-her new name! HE HE HE
Isn't the internet an amazing thing!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Good morning all.
Celia......(((((((((hugggggs)))))))))!! Know that I echo what everyone else said.
We had about 3 inches of rain last night!! And wind! But I don't see any damage, which is good!
The sun is out, and shiining brightly today. That is a good thing, even if it is colder.
Not much to say here...kinda tired today. Didn't sleep well last night.
I hope you all have a wonderful day!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah...Dr. Mau...I like that!!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

It's gone!! It's gone!!! WOOHOO!!!

Yep Mau, they're here as I type!! Smells to high heaven, they use kerosene to soften the old finish, which would be paint here in this old gal. And noisy!! Good grief. I need headphones like they've all got on!! I think they might be done sanding now. I haven't heard the sander go in about 5 minutes. I also made an executive decision and am letting them FINISH the floor too! You should see how neat their poly makes those pine floors look!! Bad thing is that we did our room and Krista's room already in fruitwood. They were going to do a nice straight line across and inside the doorways. Those 2 rooms are across from each other. I've scratched doing the Milk Paint in the back. Mostly because I would have to drive 60 miles to buy some Extra Bond. And I don't want to drive 120 miles round trip to run into a store for 5 minutes. AND because I just want somebody else to do it for once!!

OOOPS!! There goes a sander again!!! HUH??? What did you say??? I can't hear you!!!! LOL

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Morning Marcy!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Marcy, glad to see you here. Been missing you. Sorry you are tired today--me too. I didn't sleep well last night either. I went to bed before 10 p..m. and was up by 11 p.m. because I couldn't sleep. Got up and watched, what did I watch--can't even remember now. DUH!! Whatever it was didn't make much of an impression on me, did it? LOL

Discombobulated--now there's a word I really need to know! LOL--I have heard it before but it is not a word I use--too hard to say, much less try to spell it! LOL

When I was in high school my English teacher was a real "stickler" for vocabulary words. Two words that have stuck in my mind from high school days are "onomatopeaia" and "polyglot". I don't think I spelled the first one correctly but I rather imagine if you were to google it you could come up with the correct spelling as well as the definition. Also, I remember "alliteration" which means "a series of similar sounds" and the definition itself is an alliteration. Amazing what kind of "stuff" hangs around in your brain for years and years!!! LOL

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

LOL Terry! I don't envy you the noise! I have a wide board poplar floor in my kitchen/dining area. My DH and DB put it down. It took 3 days! They put it down with square cut cement nails. What a lot of pounding!!! It was awful. The dog and I went outside and stayed...all 3 days....lol. Thank goodness it was warm!
On the other hand....just think how nice it will be when done!! :))

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

We cross-posted, Terry. Glad the floor people are there and that you made the decision to let them finish the floors, too. You have worked so hard on that house with all the sanding, painting, poly-ing, etc. that once you are finally finished you are going to look around and say, "What on earth am I going to do today?" LOL
However, I think the first thing you should do is give yourself a vacation and come on down here and visit me and Pau. Wait till it gets warmer though so we can enjoy some of Arkansas' beautiful scenery while you are here. You can stop and have lunch with Tammy on your way down here. :o)))

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

I bet that poplar floor is pretty, Marcy. Why did they have to use the square-cut cement nails?

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi Marilyn! What's up with us "old" gals and the sleepin', anyway???

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL You are typing words I can pronounce either Dr. Mau! LOL
Morning Marcy!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Well..they used those to make it look like the old type flooring. They were all put down with square nails way back when.
Also, poplar is a very hard wood, and there is no finish on my floor! We just let it "age". I think that is called ground in dirt....hahahaa.
Really, it looks very nice, and all I have to do is mop it.

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi Tammy!
Forgot to say...thing is...those square nails are really hard to pound in!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

BBL...lunch time!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Marcy, I think we "old gals" are having a reaction to loss of hormones--another consequence of growing older, unfortunately. I have a hormone cream (that does not have estrogen in it) which I should use but I haven't been using it lately. DUH, Marilyn--use the cream!! Sometimes that can affect sleep patterns. And of course, there is always stress over various things--such as finances and/or family troubles--that can affect one's sleep patterns. I stopped taking estrogen years ago due to the discovery that estrogen can cause breast cancer--doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that you shouldn't take estrogen as a hormone replacement therapy if it can cause breast cancer!!! Why do they think there has been such an increase in breast cancer in the last few decades!!! Anyway, that is Doctor Mau's thinking on the subject. LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

"ground-in dirt"---Now that's a very old-type finish for a new hardwood floor!! LOL
That's amazing, though, that it just ages naturally and all you have to do is mop it. Do you mean dry mop or wt mop? Whatever, it sounds like my kind of floor!! The older I become the lazier I become when it comes to keeping house.

I'll check in with y'all later, too. I need to go and start a load of clothes in the washer.

(Zone 7a)

Thought I'd pop in to say "Hi" to everybody.

I DO feel better today. Still didn't sleep but that's okay. I'll sleep when I get home on Saturday. My brother heard me up and we both decided a blueberry muffin and some conversation was needed. We talked about dad and today's gathering. We've discovered the true meaning of "Gone but not forgotten.".

Thanks, everyone, for listening and we'll talk later.

Hugs to all and I don't care how tight. They feel great! LOL

(Zone 7a)

LOL Dr. Mau! LOL I love it!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Ok, sending you that GREAT BIG HUG again! :)

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I love it it too. We now have Princess Tammy and Dr. Mau!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey, Celia, I'm glad to know that you can still smile at our little jokes in spite of the sadness in your life right now. Yes, blueberry muffins and good conversation with a loved one can make things seem better in almost any situation, can't they? :o))
Get ready for a very tight hug:
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Celia)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

"Princess Tammy and Dr. Mau"--sounds like the title for a new TV show, Marie--LOL

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

As a doctor you should know she really needs air to survive!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Now she really can't breathe Dr. Mau! LOL
LOL @ Marie! :)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

QUICK she needs CPR! LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Y'all are cracking me up, but now I really DO need to get that laundry started. I'm outta here for a little bit.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hmm not a task a princess usually participates in. I think the docotr bettter get to work!!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

ROTFLOL

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

You have NO finish on the floor Marcy? No poly or anything? I wouldn't think it would stay very nice. Our whole first floor is the 3" or whatever size, not wide, not narrow maple hardwood floor. Upstairs is all the wide pine plank flooring. It's AMAZING how their poly makes the floors look!! And they can be on their hands and knees doing this, not me!! Oh and Marcy, I knew why they used the square head nails. Tony found some somewhere, and he gave them to me. Now to figure out how to use them. Have an idea, but I don't have everything I need to finish it.

Speaking of finish...the sanding is done! Let the polying commence!!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Terry...nope...NO finish! The wood has darkened considerably, and looks nice! Poplar is a very white wood when new. That I didn't like. And yes, I just damp mop it. Spills come right up, but the idea was to make it look old...and now it does! A friend of ours had already done his floors like this, and so we knew what to expect.
And if we ever do want finish on it, it only has to be sanded a bit, and then finish put on.
This friend of ours bought the rough cut lumber at a mill at a cheap price. And then, because he is a fine furniture maker and has a wonderful wood shop, he and my husband planed the wood, shiplapped it, and then it was up to us to put it down. My DB stepped in and said he would help...yayyy!!! Let me tell you, those square head nails are NOT easy to drive into hard wood!! They both used mighty big (24 and 28 oz.) hammers to nail it. Heck..I couldn't even lift that size hammer...lol..nor do I want to!!!
Oh..and Terry..listen to this. The original floor in the kitchen/dining area is heart pine! Oh we wanted to save that sooo bad! But someone had glued linoleum down to it with this black mastic stuff. DH tried to get it off....sanded just a small spot ..for DAYS!!! Decided it wasn't worth that. Made us sick! Do you know what heart pine goes for these days??????
