Tags feature for DG?

They are still there, you just can't add any new ones. When you go to the tagging page by clicking on the Tag icon, at the bottom is a link to your archive of Favorites.

I won't delete them.

dave

Added note: it's a good idea to go to your Favorites, then visit each favorite page one by one and tag them. Then they'll be even more accessible to you than ever before.

Thanks!

I just had a second to test it. Adding tags is simple. I'll do more in a few hours.
Yippee! Tags are in the Bag!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Dave, I guess I'm not seeing it. I can not find the book marking OR Favorites so I can start tagging. Could you explain that to me again? Thanks!

Scottsburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I finally realized I needed to read your post Dave - the folder PICTURE - duh!! This is great!!!!!

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

Sounds great! With the bazillion threads and articles I watch and lose site of when wanting to refer back to something, this will keep me more organized.

Thanks Dave!

Here's a screenshot that shows what to click on.

You can see the tag cloud growing as more tags are added:

http://davesgarden.com/tools/tags/

This is neat.

The larger words mean that there are more pages tagged with that particular word.

Wow, I leave for a couple of appointments today and when I get back it's off and running! Woooo, a tag cloud, even! I'm off to play a bit. Thanks, Dave!

North Augusta, ON

ok..I don't get it...Ii went to my favourites folder and can't see where to add the tags??? Helppp before I lose them forever in space...

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

I put a couple of 'tags' out there, but I'm not sure, exactly, how to use them. I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my 'FAVORITES' and I surely don't wanna do that!

p.s. and I am 'over' 50!! LOL

Tri-G, you probably went to your DG favorites via your My Info page, right? To add tags, you need to click the folder icon in the upper right of the page you're on. That will open the tags area for that specific page. That help?

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Some tags are in the cloud and others aren't getting included. Do they have to be entered by more than one person?

No, all tags should be present in the cloud. Is there one that you know of that's not appearing?

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Yeah, let me go add it again, and see if I didn't just jump from the page too quick.

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Dave, the links in several of the forums aren't working this afternoon... thought it might be due to this new 'tag' adventure. Thanks!

North Augusta, ON

ok, so I hafta go to my favs, click on the link to the page I have saved, then click on the folder to add a tag to that page, right?

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

yup, I bounced away too quickly :) uh, nevermind

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Dave, may we have an additional option "Add another tag" under these choices, please?

Yes, that's it exactly.

You should add all your tags at one time.

ok, I can foresee only one problem...for me anyways. Most of my favs are recipes, ones I want to try some day. they are in my fav. folder to remind me...but for a tag to work I would have to actually REMEMBER what I want to try in order to ever find it again, for future ones...right?

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

I went through my favorites and tagged, mostly recipes, now I am in MY INFO and threads I have started, and wondering where we draw the line. I mean, should we tag plantfile entries, and what about posts we have made asking for ID's of a plant, should we tag those if we got an ID? Just don't want to get carried away...LOL
oh, one more question, do we want to tag the whole thread or just individual posts within the thread?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

These tags look really cool! I'm going to have to play with them when I get done with work tonight.

FlowrLady--it might help if you included a little more info on where exactly you're having problems. It doesn't seem to be a site-wide problem, I haven't had any trouble in any of the forums I've been in just now.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

PM, I'd tag whatever makes sense to you if you were to look for it later.

For recipes, if you were to enter a few tags showing the main ingredients, and we could search for multiple tags, you could put in

recipe, ground beef

And find that recipe again.

Am I thinking right on that, Dave?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

PM, forgot to say this: adding the botanical and common names of identified plants would be very helpful, I'd think.

GW, yes, that would work real well. If that was too much work, simply tagging your favorite recipes as "recipe" would later allow you to pull them all up using that tag.

You can also add tags to a page later.

The nice thing about the tagging system is you don't have to worry about overloading the system with too much data. You can tag and tag all you want, and later we'll have the system programmed to find your stuff. The tag cloud is an example of a way to start diving into the data.

I also plan to make individualized tag clouds, so you can view a tag cloud of just your OWN tags. It should make it pretty easy to find your own stuff.

Quoting:
oh, one more question, do we want to tag the whole thread or just individual posts within the thread?

That's entirely up to you. :)

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave, this one I did twice now, and I can't seem to get the tag to go to the right page- can you (or can I) just delete the tags:
1. Black Forrest Cherry Cake
2. recipe
3. recipes
4. schwartzwalder kirschtorte
that are associated with this link:
Propagation: critterologist picture (Clump transplanting & Critter's seed starting tips)

I'm checking my other tags now, to make sure they are going to where they should be. I hope that in my excitement I wasn't linking everything to the wrong page. I put them in the way I usually enter stuff into my journal here, but should I not be using the back button?

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

really like the idea of individualized tag clouds!

North Augusta, ON

oh, our own tags, whew...ok, sounds good, it will find the stuff I've tagged, so if I look for recipes it will find the ones I saved. Yay, thanks Dave :))

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks!! :)

Hyblaean,

You won't be able to tag forms, which is what I believe you were trying to do.

I have cleared out your attempts, and I updated the code to prevent one from tagging a form.

dave

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

I was trying to link them to this:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=2543242
is that a form? and should I just link it to the thread, and if yes, is there any way I can pinpoint where in the tread the link might go to. No is ok, too :) I really like this feature. I think it's a great way for the older members (if they want to) to help the rest of us find all the hidden treasures.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5a)

Love the new tags, but I think I'm running into a problem--and it might be the same one Hyblaean was having. I tried to tag an individual post, by first locating the thread, then second finding the post of interest, then opening it using the Post # ID to get the specific post up. Then I went to the old Favorites icon and added my proposed tag ("Roasted Tomato Soup"). It showed up just fine in the tag cloud, but when I click on the tag, it takes me back to the home page.

Am I doing something wrong, or is that the same "form" issue just mentioned?

Thanks for all you do for us, Dave! This is cool!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

The way the code is, would recipe bring up the word recipes, or do they have to be an exact match?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

now this is fun!

GW: I think they have to be an exact match. That's the way it should work, anyway.

Regarding the current problem not being able to tag individual posts, etc, I see the problem and will fix the bug shortly.

dave

Necedah, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks for all you do Dave!

You should be able to tag an individual post now!

best,
dave
