Water Cooler - 4

hey debilu - that rhymes good !

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor: I do all the laundry, too, and agree with your point about all the piles.

Debilu: I taught my kids about the wonders of the washer and dryer when they were 9 and 13 and can't understand why people refuse to allow their kids to do it. They have to do it when they go off to college so why not start them out young?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We wait to have enough for a full load - doesn't take too long. We have a few laundry baskets in the basement, and when one fills up - laundry gets done. DH is too picky about his laundry or I would do it. I taught my son one day when I got tired of unballing his socks after telling him to unball them over and over.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Long ago my husband at the time was surprised to see his clean socks waiting to be put away and said, "My socks aren't balled". I told him what to do.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Arlene - my mother wouldn't let us do the laundry when we lived at home. She said it would be a reflection on her if we didn't have properly cleaned and ironed clothes. I didn't argue.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I never offered when I was a teenager and my mother never asked me to do laundry but it wouldn't have hurt me to learn and be able to help her with it.

She did love the fact that I loved cleaning windows with Glass Wax so she didn't have to do it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

When I was probably just pre-teen and would wash the table after dinner, my older sister always told me I wasn't doing it right and would take the cloth out of my hand to do it herself. Do you think I ever learned to do it right?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ha!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

hmmm...did you really know how to wipe the table, or were just trying to get her to do it?

I just got this in an e-mail and thought it was cute. I can laugh so you can tease me about these, unfortunately some of these are soooo true!

Only a mainer...
Body: You know you're from rural Maine when:

1. Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor on the highway.

2. "Vacation" means going to Bangor for the weekend.

3. You measure distance in hours.

4. You know several people who have hit moose more than once.

5. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

6. You use a down comforter in the summer.

7. Your grandparents drive at 65 mph through 13 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching.

8. You see people wearing hunting clothes at social events.

9. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

10. You think of the major food groups as moose meat, beer, fish, and berries.

11. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.

12. There are 4 empty cars running in the parking lot at the convenience store at any given time.

13. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

14. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.

15. You think sexy lingerie is tube socks and flannel pajamas.

16. You know all 4 seasons: almost winter/winter/still winter/construction

17. It takes you 3 hours to go to the mall for one item even when you're in a rush because you have to stop and talk to everyone in town.

18. You actually understand these jokes and forward them to all your friends from Maine

"If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain."

Has anyone bought the DG calender? $20 plus shipping was just too much for me. That's more than $1.50 per month! I love the Lang calenders and have used them for years. Nice and big so I can write stuff (it usually serves as my garden record and I do keep them) and they are beautifully illustrated. There are many to choose from. They are up to about $15 now.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Farmer's Almanac here, 'Weather Calendar'. ☺

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I haven't bought any calendars this year. I use the school calendar, my computer calendar and every year a friend buys us calendars. I'm trying to get more into using my DG blog to keep track of all the gardening notes.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I thought the DG calendars were very nice, but too expensive. I, use my Google calendar online, along with a purse-size one to keep handy when I make appointments etc. So, I'd jut be buying the calendar for the pretty photos. I usually buy the Sierra Club and New England Wildflower Society calendars.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I also thought it was too much.
I get more than I can use from non-profit groups. Some pretty nice ones, too.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I always get sarcastic lawyer joke calendars. :(

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I get lawyer centerfolds!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

OMG, Dave - what the heck do THEY look like?????? LOL

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

That wasn't you??

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

About 25% of them have bumps in the front. The 75% other have on ties. Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Good one, Patti!! LOL No, Dave- no centerfold material here!!! ROFL!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They do centerfolds to remind us what they do to us!! (Sorry Louise, but you set it up!)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Staple our belly buttons?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Pirl, I'll get a belly button ring the same day I buy my HD. Patti

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Does anyone watch Masterpiece theatre? http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/schedule/index.html I love Jane Austen and they are doing a series on her books. My favorite, which I purchased, was Pride and Prejudice done by A&E with Colin Firth. This evening was Northanger Abbey which was it's first release. Well done! I loved it.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Anita - I watched Pride and Prejudice too. I'm also a Jane Austen fan, and love Masterpiece Theatre! P & P was fun.. In grad school, I did a partial concentration on Austen's works - a good balance to Chaucer!! LOL
