Looking at the posting time 5:08..it's 4:25 pm..wish it was the prior..I'd be gone for the day..lol...here's another photo of it...don't you just think that with bevels, bright colors this project would look great in the garden?
Best/Worse and What did I learn today-part 25
very pretty Betty!
been up to trying to keep the GH in order, cleaned up most of the yard and finally got to burn stuff. we've had burn restrictions for months due to drought.......shopping (no skirts in this weather...lol).......back and forth all over the state the past few weeks....chasing boxer shorts around...you know, up to no good :)
Trop..bet you were wearing those mini-skirts again...sure could have sent you some rain...so, do you have anything planted in the GH as yet?
Just got home from work..made good time..it's getting colder..expecting snow..high winds..it will be nice to get back to seasonal temps..
2 of my painting girls are away on a cruise in the sunny south, 2 just called..not feeling the best..so that leaves one more..perhaps if I sit with the lights off no one will think I'm home..don't have their #'s to call them to cancel..lol...
Well, better get myself something to eat..if I'm lucky they've called the other 2 to say they wouldn't be coming and I'll have a night to relax and enjoy...
OH yes, lots planted in the GH, lots of elephant ears, african bulbs, gingers, agaves, tropicals...not much blooming but a cool bulbine I got from a DG roundup and bouganvillea, acalypha, jatropha...wow, I guess I'm spoiled and taking it for granted when I see it on the screen like that...lol. It's been lots of fun. I dug a ton of hippeastrum bulbs from my mom's over Christmas and have them all in there now. Lots of work but exciting too...we got a new computer and camera so now there's 2 of everyting and I can't figure out how to get anything to work, but one of these days I'll have pictures :)
Sounds as though you are in deep throws of gardening..how nice that must be..with loosing all the snow the past few days you can see the pond/flowers beds just longing for care but before you know it..perhaps tomorrow it will be a blanket of white..can't figure out Trop how you can remember all of those names..although I love flowers and the gardens I'm lucky to know roses, tulips, columbine, and my shrubs I know because I leave the tag on them..guess if I was smart and cut up a blind to use the stringers as markers after looking at them time and time again I'd remember their name, or do you cheat lol and make a map of the bed???? guess I'm getting old, lucky to remember my name at times...not that old really...I'll be organized this year..I'll invite Aunt Muriel, she's great at naming plants..lol
Sitting here quietly, hoping nobody will show up and guess the light screen on my computer is attracting mini-mini little insects..don't know where they come from..could it possibly be muskitos? If so we're in trouble..
Hi, House is quiet for the moment! LOL only because no one is home.
Well anyway, Glad your getting to work in the GH Tropi, Just got my first garden magazine for the year! Wooho and so begins my winter reading/dreaming.
Betty, I really love the windchime, great idea there, color are very pretty! Now is that a ice cream sundae glass?? How unique is that.
In case i have missed you, hope your class goes well!
No class, so it's early to bed for me..yes it is an ice-cream sundae glass..better get to the Midland Dollar Store to pick up the other 3 or 4 they had there just incase I either break the ones I have when drilling OR might want to make lots and lots...
Where did all the family go Judy..are they giving you some space..if so enjoy your new magazine..I just got one in the mail as well a few days ago and have read it from cover to cover..think I might settle in bed, put t.v. on..get some old gardening books out and enjoy the evening...
So my best of today would probably be having the evening off to relax
Worse of my day..goes without saying..hearing that they pulled the plug on life support re Trevor..that's a hard thing to do..know I've done it...
What did I learn....to really take not of just how lucky we truly are, friends/family/homes/food on the table/jobs-no jobs(retired), semi-good health..just all around blessed by the Lord...
Sleep well friends...
I forget my name sometimes, but somehow I can remember most of my plants..lol. oh yeah, forgot to mention, I am going to try some seeds...fingers crossed, usually can't pull it off but we'll see this time :)
and Judy, the Brent and Becky's catalog came out today....ahhhh! :)
Everyone out for the evening, various activity going on...I have been working on the laundry and un pack...Steve and I got to have a good (LOL good meaning uninterupted) conversation...re -Michigan trip! Now they are all on the way home...No reading for me tonight.
Well, Betty you enjoy a nice relaxing evening. You have been through a great deal of mixed emotions these past months, weeks, days. I know it is so, so overwhelming to hit all at once. Just know we are here for you. I am sending you a deep hug, my friend.
...Tropi, isn't it exciting? I wish you success with starting seeds. I have and had much difficulty keeping them going, don't think i will this year...I can remember the names of my plants if I watch them grow. But, got to have name tags on them too, Hahaha always forget the names in conversation. You know when someone points and says what are those...I seem to draw a blank and forget what I have!
Which reminds me! I have a question for anyone and all...seriously in need of help.
...I have 2 rosebushes! 1 Josephs Coat, Stunning the first year 9waves of blooms all summer. Then a Giant of house was built, so lost my sun. Thought it was dead but one never knows, so left it. never bloomed...But in the Fall When leaves fell from trees, He sprouted!!! A single shoot, no flower, So question is Should I transplant? I am petrified to do unless it absolutey needed. Then I need a lesson on how to do it...eeks! My other rosebush only ever bloomed once, He is a stunning Jacobs Ladder...Did you know it's bloom is a a tye dye! Very Groovey! Thinking maybe to transplant it as well...I know it's got to be early Spring, but thats about it...
Watching movies most of the night, can't sleep so up and at it..will have my 1st cup of coffee and see what I can get into..

nice outfits love polka dots
Wow - I didn't read for two days and there sure are a lot of posts to catch up on. I read for over an hour and then had to begin skipping things. Well Duh!!! I read the title of this thread but until now didn't know that the thread is basically meant as a way for each of us to report in on our days. Duh!!!
So we report in on the best thing that happened, then report the worst thing that happened and then what we learned. Interesting topic there folks. Gives us a chance to reflect upon our days and hopefully by learning new things we can put them in to use and be better people because of what we learned.
I see that many of you post in the evenings. My sleep schedule for at least a year has been all over the map. I awake any where from 1:30 AM to 4:30 AM. Of course as the days wears on, I become very tired. I am usually asleep before 8 PM.
I suppose that I will have to report on the previous days activities. Yesterday was rather quiet for me. I was the only one at home for most of the day. I have a list of things to do that is a mile long, but I didn't particularly feel like getting in to anything too involved.
I spent a couple of hours wrapping coins that I have been saving for a couple of years. I am first time grandmommy to dear and sweet Emily who will be 7 months old the end of this month. I started a fund for her while her mommy was still carrying her. Her little piggy came to $79.00. I am planning to open a savings account for her soon.
There were three other jugs that I use to hold coins and they equaled $169.50. I am going to put that in a separate account and call it a vacation fund.
The best part of the day for me was that I am basically healthy and not experiencing any physical pain.
The worst part of the day was the cable TV and also Internet service were down for about 12 hours. They finally came back on about 7 PM. Even this happening wasn't all bad though because it made hubby go out and buy a new DVD player. He just showed me four movies that he bought. I am especially surprised that he did this because he is not one to come up off his money easily. ha-ha
What I learned is there should always be a Plan B., which in this instance was going out for movies when TV was inoperable.
I am not sure what I will end up doing today but there are still two Christmas recipes that I bought all the ingredients for and still want to try making. I might get in to one of those if I find that my morning is going to be free. I will let ou know how they turn out.
I hope that everyone will have a good day.
Ruby
Morning Have been in lurker mode again. Also been in the garden catalogs and figuring out what I want to get and what I need to get. LOL I can spend hours doing that and that's what I've done.
Helped unload truck yesterday and I sure can feel it this morning. But it was a good day at work and the whole truck other then the Valentine stuff is on the shelves where it belongs. So that was the best yesterday.
Can't think of a worst unless it is the problems the rest of you are having.Which I hope get better soon.
What did I learn-Who knows!
Yes we have snow yet our temp never got over 35 degrees. They say 2-4 or 4-6 inches of snow for us. Hasn't started yet. Maybe it will miss us!
When I brought in my big plants there were impatien starts in them. Which have really grown. I plan on cutting them back and starting more. Might not have to buy any this year. If I don't get to them this week I will do them this weekend.
Betty sorry you have so much going on with friends and family. That is alot to deal with. Sending out prayers for all. Love the windchime. I love windchimes. I picked up some metal ones at the dollar store. A dragonfly one and a frog one. They are the same as they carried last year and I had picked up my sister and neice the turtle and butterfly ones and gave them to them for Christmas.
Here's a picture of the bowl that my brother went out and bought over 40 years ago to make sugar cookies because mom's bowl wasn't big enough. I was his helper and it brings back lots of memories of him. This year is the 35th anniversary of his death. Mom finally gave me the bowl after doing her yard work for the last 2 years. She always said it was packed away. At Christmas she went right to the cubbard and I got it out for her.
Told mom it was going on my fridge and there it is. She even called to see if that was where I put it. I said yes it is because I don't pack away my treasures like someone I know! Another story there.
Hi to everyone and hope you have the day you need.
Morning all,
Got my car back yesterday afternoon. I had to have both brake lines replaced from front to back... $329.00. Then went and did several errands. A new Home Depot opened opened yesterday..about 10 minutes drive away. I was there at 4pm..but they weren't opening till 6 pm. I have to go back out today to pick up some prescriptions so I will go and check out our new HD.
Betty..love your outfits..and the fact they are mix and match..you could just pack those things and be ready for a trip.
Are they all from the same maker..the flowers look the same shape.
Ruby..great idea about saving your coins for your grandchild. I love the way you said you hubby is "not one to come up off his money". I haven't heard that phrase before and I love it! I am one who doesn't like to come up off her money either LOL.
Judy..they say roses need at least 6 hours of sun a day to bloom. So I would cut them back to about 8-12" in the spring. Dig around the root ball, and plant them where they will get some sun. There is all kinds of info in the Roses forum. I used to hang out there. I have since gotten fed up with my roses I am tired of fighting the rabbits and the insects eating them..and lack of water etc.
Last year I had about 18 roses..I would get really pretty pictures of them close-up. I decided this fall not to protect them..and let only the strongest survive. I have about 5 that are hardy here from the Explorer series. Joseph's Coat is a rose I have always admired.
This one is "Candelabra" a Grandiflora rose
Have a great day..
Carol
Great looking bowl Ves..the ridges make it look very special...wonderful to have it ...and the memories.
Carol, what a beautiful photo..something I'd love to paint in Genesis..wow, that's a lot of money for brake lines..but, guess if they have to redo front front to back it's the labour that costs..have to have breaks....now don't you spend all the rest of your $$$ at Home Depot..not sure where in our area but heard we will be a Lowes..I'll be excited about that..I've not had a lot of luck with my roses as well..planted perhaps a dozen or so last year and did not protect them so we'll see what survives..I've a friend who has a large garden which is only roses and his wife says he spends more time with the roses than with her..lol..
The outfits are indeed from the same maker..it's mostly my love of the material..no upkeep, throw in washer/dryer and hang..some have long sleeves, some short sleeves so it's will provide me a good variety of wear for both casual and work clothes..had purchased most of my summer clothes here last fall from EezyWear..so comfy..so, no need for more shopping...I'm so hard on clothes..all of a sudden I'll decide to paint or do a craft and don't take time to change..must get myself a craft garb to wear..
Vicki, your brother must have been awfully young when he passed..sounds like a lot of years but to you it's still 'yesterday'..know that feeling...I love the color! I'm so please that your mom gave it to you now for you to enjoy..
I also love windchimes..when in Meaford there is a factory outlet that has gorgeous gift ware..I picked up a hummingbird feeder which comprises of 4 different areas, hangs separately and acts as a windchime..painted some metal ones in my garden..a neighbor two doors up has several in their yard and I find it relaxing when sitting out to hear the chimes..
No snow left at my house...temperature here Vicki is just starting to climb..it was -2 when we arrived in the city..they are calling for snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, high winds etc.etc. later today..now why can't it be early tmr. morning so I can get a 'snow day'..lol..because we only work 4 hrs. on Friday I'll advise Paul that I'll change the telephone system tonight just in case..hint/hint..he's off tomorrow because he writes his exam at the Law Society on Thursday and will be studying until then..so perhaps he'll say-stay home!! Could con him and tell him I'd likely get his stained glass piece done if I had 3 days to work on it rather than 2...aren't I terrible.. I also brought a new gardening book to work with me today..we've all got the bug...but for we northerners, it will have to wait..but we can look/plan and dream..
Ruby, what a wonderful thought..saving your coin for Emily..now we want a photo of this lovely child..some on girl..get that camera out! I'm much the same in the winter months, always dark when I get up and dark when I get home so unless I have to be up, it's early to bed..however right now I'm fighting getting back into a routine..body just doesn't seem to want to settle in for a full night of rest..but eventually we'll be back to sleeping most of the night.. I also had a laugh at dear 'hubby' not wanting to part with his money..aren't we lost without cable and internet..wish I was nearby to taste all your goodies..not a baker although I make great pies...guess it's more I'm not interested than not being able to..don't need the calories though..
Liz, I purchased the diamond drill bit early last year when I first saw the project..look a little last night for it but didn't find it..know approx where I would have put it..good excuse to clean some of my workshop up..lordy I'm aching to get busy again...put that on my list 'to do'..so yes, I'll start a thread as I did with the sleighs/sweater and keep track of what I'm doing..even thought Liz perhaps I could look at the couple of $$ stores in the area for hanging beads already strung to make some easier..don't know..but I'm anxious to start..I MUST go and buy out the $$ store for the ice cream Sundae cups...if you hear of a buying surge you'll know I'm busy at it...
Well, my "worst" for yesterday was the furniture store we bought our bed from has files chapter 11 and we may never see our bed now!!! I just called them and was told they are not shipping any orders until the court hearing at the end of jan. At that time they will determine what, if any orders can be filled. On the good side, thank goodness we got our mattress/boxspring!
OMG Jeannine, did you pay for the entire bed..sure hope not..doesn't help..regardless you had fallen in love with that bed..sorry to hear that...few more weeks to wait and then maybe they will ship it out...disappointing isn't it...
Was checking my computer and came across the following which I had saved..not sure if I already posted it, but thought worth doing again!!!
I wrote your name on a piece of paper, but by accident I threw it away.
I wrote your name on my hand, but it washed away.
I wrote your name in the sand, but the waves whispered it away.
I wrote your name in my heart, and forever it will stay.
I believe in angels, the kind that heaven sends.
I'm surrounded by angels, but I call them my friends.
Hope it was not all prepaid for! A car part co. did that. Dh was out his money. The co. was back in business. DH will not ever buy from them again. Hope it all works out..
Betty my brother was around 24 when he died. All good memories except for that.
Awfully young Vicki...no wonder you want to cherish that special bowl..bet each time you use it, memories will come flooding back..
Yep, of course it was all paid for. The company will be staying in business too so hopefully we'll get our bed. It look me so long to finally get my DH to agree to a new one! We just don't have $900 sitting around to go get another one!
Could you not cancel the order now, before they start the process even if you had to pay for the mattress set you now have? Save all the trouble if they don't come across with the bed...
Just got back from the Mandarin..all you can eat buffet, tell you, I'll not be hungry tonight..actually I'm uncomfortable..so funny, Suzanne and I were taking Paul out as he was away for his birthday, anyway when we went to pay, the young gentleman said is that 2 seniors and 1 reg. (of course the sign said 65) Paul almost chocked but we got the discount...)
oops with so much going on, sickness/death etc. did I forget to tell you all the GREAT news..Suzanne will be a grandmother later this year..so, better get my knitting machines out, oiled and ready to knit..simply have to key in the pattern and I can still play with you guys on DG while it knits itself...blankets/baby outfits..asked her if she had Danielle's christening dress and she did, otherwise I'd do a long baby Christening Gown set like I did before with 2,000 beads knitted in it...still had enough beads but they've got a gown which will be handed down..should knit one incase I'm not here when my grandchildren has children..lol nothing like planning ahead...
15 more minutes and homebound... before I leave I thought I'd post the following...
When days are filled with sunshine,
How close we hold a friend;
It's good to share the laughter,
the dreams that have no end.
And it's fun exchanging,
Some episode of fun
And finding much in common
In all that you have done!
But when the days are shadowed,
Perhaps with pain or grief,
The bonds of friendship tighten,
Almost beyond belief...
And the burdens aren't so heavy
When someone takes your hand;
And not a word is needed,
To prove she understands
The world would be so lonely,
In sunny hours or grey,
Without the gift of friendship
To help us every day!!!!
Thank you kind friends...
Nope, can't cancel the order - all sales were final because it was a big sale when we bought it. Something tells me they knew......
hey everybody!
liz...lol...we have to start to feminize these types of things, you know..lol
seddtosser, I wish I could help on the rose bushes, I'm too uncoordinated for thorny things in the garden. Darn near lost an eye a few times on the yucca bushes already. But I wish I had planted the poppy seeds yesterday because it rained so well today
Best: Talked with a dger on the phone today for hours. she and I have traded plants for awhile so it was really cool to talk-talk with her
no worst...I try not to do worst unless I'm dealing with the in-laws or something
what I learned...I guess reminded...I just love people :)
Trop, my goodness how you always bring a smile to my face! Those in-laws coming back so soon for their visit? You'd think you'd both learn...lol...
Planted a yucca once before...grew to be quite a size, took up too much room only to produce 1 little lonely flower..
Well it's 9:30pm..was aiming for 10:00 pm bedtime in hopes that finally I might get a full night in..just spent an hour gabbing with Shar on the telephone..such a lovely lady..should have kept talking because now I just want to settle in..
Dawn, tried you tel.#..you and Greg must be out painting the town 'red'...sorry I missed you..
So nice to have telephone numbers..get to put voices with names...not sure I have all of yours..if not, d-mail me the # and who knows, might just dial you up...
No signs of freezing rain/sleet/snow as yet, so guess it will be a Friday trek into Toronto for 4 hrs....
Best of the day...had loads of laughs at the office..even took the Boss (BIL) out to lunch..
Worse..not really worse but Manadrin asks for ID when you say you want a Sr's discount..must show you are 65-gave me and Paul the discount without asking for ID..we didn't even ask for the 20% discount, he just assumed we were over 65..now that young man needs glasses (Paul's 52 - white silvery hair though)..he shouldn't assume you are a sr. he should wait till the bill is to be made up and have the individual ask for it..lol...Suzanne got a kick out of it..she thoroughly enjoyed paying the full amount..
What did I learn...called Mom tonight to find out about the biopsy..we'll she thought about it and decided to fly home for it..she flies tomorrow and will return next week after it's done...hmmm confusing..says she wants to be home when she has it done...
So dear friends it's off to bed..let's see if I can sleep through the night tonight..
Sleep tight/talk to you in the morning...(I hope)...
I feel that I just spent the past hour or so with my best friend. Thanks for calling, Ms. Betty, that was really good for both of us.
OK, Gita......it's about time, don't you think? We could have all chipped in and sent it overnight express....because it sure is hard to wait for news.
http://greatdanepro.com/clock.htm
Another 10 minutes Shar and I've made the magic # 10
Ahhhhh, sweet. And now it is after 10. Nite, Betty.
No response yet. I will let you all know if I get one. For sure!
You all are too funny! Like there will be some kind of a romance or something! I have NO, NADA clue about him! Will only see what he replies, if he does. I did not ask him anything personal nor did I tell him anything about my status or my life. For all I know--he might be resentful that someone tracked him down. That would bother me too, knowing that can be done...
I figure--Baltimore to LA--at least 2 days for mail.
Maybe another 2 days for him to think if he wants to reply.
Then another 2 or 3 days for a note to get here.
There's time!!! And if I get nothing---I am just happy to know he is still alive. Don't know why? Maybe once you have been friends with someone, you always care a bit about them.
G.
Ahhhhhh, come on Gita, it's the bridesmaid dress that I am thinking about.
Hey gang, I'm still here! It's been a crazy week! I just finished reading everyones posts, will write tomorrow evening. Thinking of you all and saying prayers for your friends and loved ones that can use a few extra right now. Love and hugs, Rachel
So good to hear from you Rachel.
Betty and I were talking tonight about how we worry when people don't post Funny how we all get so "connected" isn't it?
