Best/Worse and What did I learn today-part 25
Carol, that is a lovely color on you. You should were it a lot, makes your face glow!
So happy that you got to go to such a great party. We all need that from time to time. Thanks for the pictures.
I am having back problems today. I have my regular appointment with the pain management group on Tuesday, IF I can make it till then. I am sitting with a heating pad tied around my back right now. Just not having a good day.
Hope you folks are having a better one. Wonder if Judy is home.
Thanks saharran.
A few people last night mentioned that it was a good colour for me...even the girl in the store where I bought it said that.
I guess I better go shopping for more clothes that colour.
..LOL
So sorry you are having such pain. Is this an ongoing back pain that you have?
I hope you feel better soon.
Gardengirl..great photo of Murphy..so cute..and you are lucky to have a kind and loving husbnad.
Just recurring problems from the polio many years ago. It happens occasionally when I do idiotic things like climb to the top of a 6 foot ladder to take a 10 foot tree down, and my upper body turns one way while the lower turns another way. and then I bend to lift the 3 huge boxes that hold all those oversized ornaments. I know better, but do I listen to myself...Nope. So now i am paying for it.
Anyway, thanks for asking.
Carol, it looks like you had a great time at your party! And yes, my DH is sweetie pie!! Thank you!!
Great photo's Carol..that color lookssuperb on you..better get out shopping some more...I purchased a pair of jean and vest to wear to a country and western wedding of all thing..a pearl design along outside of the slacks and infront, paid about $250.00 and $150.00 for western boots, wore it once and in the closet it sits..almost forgot about the set..should take photo for you..would have suited your event...but then you look so pretty in what you are wearing...sometimes these theme weddings cost more for the guest than it does for the married couple...
I am so sad today, Carol watch Channel A news, they might tell you about a snowmobile accident, a friend of my boys (he's single) runs his dad's construction firm - only son, quite a playboy and all the toys .. fastest toys from snowmachines, to cigarette boats/ jag etc. cutest kid..my god I used to get teased by him when I ran teen dances...well he was out snowmobiling, hit a pressure crack in the ice, now paralyzed and fighting for his life...I called the boys but they had already gotten the news...
Both of my boys would not talk long with me, of course Jeff, I went on to tell him about Trevor White and then Denise..told him to put that xdoi cigarette away before he left his 2 boys fatherless, he kept trying to get off the phone, when I said what's so important you can't talk, well he said 'don't want the lecture' so I told him to think long and hard each time he took a cigarette...
Now I called Greg, he just got in from snowmobiling, gave him a lecture and same, kept saying 'got to go' asked him the same and said 'mom, I'm smarter than that' well I'm sure they all think the same so I did my mother thing, like it or not...so now we wait for news...
Diane and I got out to Carole's for the open house..not as many pieces that excited me but I did manage to register for 4..one will cost me $350.00 but it's two pieces..if they don't fit the decor here maybe someone else will like it..then a new type of pastel painting - will do mom and baby wolves painted on ultra suede..try my luck at that..then a table that has an angular piece that can be removed and under the glass portion you can change the art piece..it was nice and then a footstool/coffee type table using pen and ink withh a fringer decorating front and back..nice piece..that particular piece would be something I can make and teach..when I registered for the footstool/table Carole said she had no one else register for it so if I wanted to buy the piece she'd give me the pattern to go with it and I can make and teach same..she'd give it to me for the cost of the wood piece which was $65.00 so that saved me $60.00 for my day class and paints..couldn't resist..lol...so I'll do my measurements and start making some..some for gifts and some for the girls..that should keep me out of mischief...will take photo..
I telephone my mom and she and Aunt Muriel are doing fine..Aunty Muriel had just gotten back from the flea market and mom enjoyed her day putsing..now they are in sunroom, music going, wine in hand and enjoying the high 70's..so everything seems to be under control there...
I put on a crock pot stew, smell is making me mega hungry so I'll eat, do some measurements, bathe, read some books , knit awhile to finish the scarf..(never did get at the stained glass piece for Paul-keep that for next weekend) and it will be early to bed...
Got all my Christmas things in the back shed, Greg was over while I was out and got the snow and ice off the storage shed so I feel I've accomplished much...would have loved to have stayed home tonight though...
Sorry Judy and I didn't manage to visit..guess she's on her way home..wouldn't you know it..weather has changed, now in high 70's - low 80's..now she's back into a winter wonderland...
Shar/Shar/Shar..you should know better than to be doing those things..now you are in so much pain...I'm going to give you a lecture as well...find some teen or a workman in your area to do such things...especially when YOU KNOW what trouble you can get into...
Betty, that is a very pretty outfit.
Yep, the heating pad and I have bonded today.
OOOPPPSS almost burnt the potatoes..crock pot wasn't large enough for the stew..now of course I cooked for at least 10 and it's only ME...so had to put tatters into another pot to cook..well got carried away with these photo's and posts and there might be a little taste of burnt to a couple of them..lol..lordy I'm a great cook! NOT...
Here's the little table or footstool or whatever one would call it...
I'm off for supper..SMELLS GOOD!
Well tummy is full...time to call it a day..sure hope your day went as you had hoped...
Best...got to see 'painting friends' at Open House
Worse..hearing the news about Trevor White's snowmobile accident...
What did I learn..my boys are getting to old to have mommy reading them the riot act...
My goodness, back posting..you can tell when I'm overly excited OR upset, I come to my computer..I did get to bed about an hour ago but had to get up..tummy turning, sick to my stomach...just got a call from my girlfriend Ann..hadn't talked to her since I was in Florida..they were up at the cottage on Boxing Day and she became extremely ill, passed out so they had to return to the city..she has lupus and hasn't been feeling well for awhile so she decided to go to the doctor's for a check up..well they found everything else wrong with her and not the lupus..so she's going for tests on her heart and they say there is visible signs that something is wrong with her kidneys...so that wasn't a good call at all..no wonder I'm roaming the house..upset..
Within the past 2 weeks, Bert and then Jimmy died, Denise is dying, Trevor today is fighting for his life and now Ann calls to say she's not well...almost makes you wonder what the next call will bring...
Hi Betty,
Such a hard time for so many people. Does it seem to you a lot of illness and deaths happen around the December January time? I did read about the snowmobile accident on the computer. Such a heartbreaking thing.
Snowmobiles are so dangerous...and it seems people take chances and go where they shouldn't.
Now what on earth would make you ill? I do hope it passes quickly.
I do admire your western outfit..you could at least wear the jeans and not look too western style.
Interesting table..I like the painted top.
Sharran..thanks for explaining your back problem. must be so frustrating for you...especially having to do all these things alone.
My friend has a nice saying when things are not going well...
"Stay in the light"..so I am wishing to all of you here.
Cheers,
Carol
evening all,
well i finished! put all but the house lights away just tired now have to have a garage sale just no more room to squeeze in a thing!
shar, for pete's sake will you behave! lol hope you feel better soon sorry your in pain
carol, what a great event you went to great photos with friends, i like the top you had on vibrant colors are my favorite, ment to tell you the cardinal pictures were nice.
betty, oh my all the terrible news today sending you prayers thats awful about trevor
and ann.
nice outfit and just look who is ever so comfy in that picture, i like that table
that was nice pattern and all, that will keep you busy, well gee i hope whatever is upsetting you will pass soon maby its all the bad news do take care off to bed myself hope judy got home ok
well everyone have a great evening
Thanks Liz
Must feel good to have things all put away..although I missed my lights around the window when I took them down.
Have a good evening... you still have a few hours before bed..I'm about to go to bed soon.
Fighting sleepiness here.
Shar- Hope that your back feels much better soon. Take it easy and keep that heat on it.
Carol- You look beautiful and sounds like everyone enjoyed the party. Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures.
Betty- So sorry to hear of more bad news. Prayers are going up. I love your cowgirl outfit! It would be cute to wear the vest and pants seperate if you feel it's to "yeehaw" together. The embroidered look on jeans is all the rage right now. Coldwater Creek has alot of different designs.
Liz- Glad to hear that you got most of the xmas decorations put away, that is always a big undertaking.
Ruby- Hope you had a good day today!
I cleaned house today while Carl took down the rest of the outdoor lights that required a ladder. I joined another seed swap over in the seed trading forum. Boy you really have to keep or you will never get any of the good stuff! Here is the latest picture of Scrappy and Cinder. Scrappy is almost 9 weeks now and growing like a weed.
Best- Got the floors mopped
Worst- Cleaned toilets
Learned- That I still hate cleaning the toilet!
Morning...just nerves, spent good part of the night up..getting ready for work and Suzanne called, she's feeling terribly..hard day yesterday for her ..her Dad 1st anniversary of his death (my FIL) so think all these things bring on upset-tummies...
Rachel, now don't they look comfy in their matching beds...adorable...aren't our fuzzies our pride and joy..thought I was Aunt Muriel and/or my mom last night..Darlene called to check up on me and into gabbing the highlight of the day, what the furries did...so, although not quite as bad-getting there!
Carol..was going to watch the 6am news but thought better of it...would hate to hear that Trevor has passed on..I was good friends with his mom Gail..she and Gerry separated years ago but still have partnership in the business..their daughters run the office and Trevor the construction firm..they do homes on the islands in the millions for each so it's quite a large company...don't know what Gerry will do..
It is so very mild here today..let the kitties out and you can hear water coming down the front ditches..have both pumps hooked in...hate to have another flood due to carelessness...Darlene and the girls and George are painting here to day so I'm tidying the craft room...picked up a roll of linoleum as the all want to do a floormat with Georgian Bay scene on it..needs cutting into 2' x 3' but I just didn't get it done for them...actually Darlene told me not to..
I must decide if I'll drive into the city today or if I'll give the girls a call and drive in with them..I'd only have to drive into Midland 10 minutes away...but they always run late and I hate being late...we'll see...
So, off for coffee..talk to you all when I get into work..
morning all,
rachel, those two are something else! just so cute isnt it nice that they get along
betty, hope your feeling better, are your street drains full from snow melting? our ground is just so full of water i guess next week i should start throwing out lawn seed where the dogs have killed the lawn, well maby the girls are on time and you can have a relaxing trip into work lol
do hope today's news is better for you have a great day now that will be a very pretty mat
Morning all,
Rachie..that photo is so sweet. The dogs look so cozy.. ..makes one want to throw a little blanket over them like when you see a child napping...LOL
Betty..so....not much sleep for you..I don't know how you keep going. I am glad you feel a bit better.
The snow is melting here..everything looks so dull and dirty outside..the temp is 44f. right now..very unusual for this time of year.
I have a few errands to do today....I just realized that I ahve a couple of DVD's from the library that should have gone back a couple of days ago. I am normally very good at returning things to the library
At work, Paul had to write an exam at the law society, didn't get an answer from the girls when I called, they still aren't in so I drove in on my own..wow..lucky to find the city..so foggy...relaxing day..just me and Wayne..he's in his office playing Solitaire and I think I might take out my knitting...
Already broke temp. all time record and it still hasn't reached its peak..although it will break some of winter up and great for driver it is not the best..would rather keep our seasons in line..not calling for cold temps or snow till late Sat./Sun.
Liz, I really should break some of the ice tonight to make sure the drainage area is open..of course I live at the bottom of a hill and all the debris travels along with the water and often plugs the municipal drain..
Look at the time, I'm already bored...seeing I have my car I think I'll go shopping at lunch..a decorative shop is just up the street, not sure what I need, believe me there is nothing I need, but it will bring a smile on this raining dreary Monday...
So, the kids and DH are off to school/work this morning. It sure is quiet without them here. I still have Ella to keep me company though. It will be nice to get some structure back as well.
Liz - those winds sound crazy. I hope all is settling back into order for you.
Carol - It sound like you had lots of fun at the party. It's always nice to have a reason to get all decked out.
Betty - It's been really neat to read your stories. I'm so sorry about all the bad news you've been receiving.
Rachel - Your dogs look so cozy.
Sonora and I were finally able to do our sleighs over the holidays. Since Betty sent 3 Santas, I thought that Ian would like to do one as well. Here's a picture of us putting the glitter on. I still need to get a picture of the finished product. Hopefully tonight that will happen. The kids and I had a really good time with the project. We're all happy with how they turned out so I guess those are the most important things.
Well, I'm off to try to get some more order to our home. That's my major resolution for this year. I've always struggled with being organized. Thankfully I married someone who is much better at it than I am. I still need to do my part though.
Gillian, look at how big Ella has gotten...before you know it she'll be off to school as well...it looks as though you've had success with your sleighs..now will they be next years' Christmas gifts? Glad you enjoyed...
Gita, have you made any progress in finding your friend?
Everyone must be busy today..thought I'd post some affirmatives I found on one of my sites...
10 Simple Daily Affirmations
EACH DAY . . .
1) Learn something new. Share it with someone else.
2) Do something nice for someone else.
3) Do something nice for yourself.
4) Think of at least one specific thing to be thankful for.
5) Do something to grow your business/advance your career.
6) Eat three healthy meals.
7) Do some form of exercise for at least 20 minutes.
8) Do something you enjoy.
9) Do a chore a day.
10) Make sure each of the above affirmations were met.
Hi Betty,
I am not busy, but think everybody else is. I am recovering from this lower back episode, so am limited in what I can do. You would be surprised how many back muscles one uses just to do simple things, like brushing your hair, coughing...going from up to down. Geesh...this old age is for the birds. No, I wouldn't wish it even on birds.
I hope things are a bit better for you today.
Hi All - Betty, I'm sorry for all your unfortunate news. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better though. I've still got some kind of sinus thingy going on along with a cough but I'm back at work.
The temps here are going way up today too - which I really hate! Not only does it play havoc on bodies, it makes my flowers think it's spring. They pop their heads up then WHAM! winter roars back in and kills them! We need some cold weather that last for awile to kill all these germs floating around! I almost forgot, the warm weather also make Murphy's fur think it's spring so he starts to shed! We had clumps of white fur all over the floor a fews weeks ago when we had a warm spell.
We all started a new "lifestyle" at home last week. We're trying to walk and eat better. DH lost 8 lbs since Tues last week and both kids lost 4 lbs. Me? I gained 1 lb! Women's middle age metabolism stinks!!I have to say I really didn't do any exercising because I've had a cold. And I had to finish off the Ferraro Rocher candies I got for Xmas - certainly wasn't going to throw them out!!!!
Well, off to get some work done! Chat with y'all later!
Jeannine
Shar..I guess it is difficult for you to lay for any length of time..what can you do to help the pain? Probably have to continually move around, from sitting, to laying to standing? No one there to help you either..must get that under control, won't be that long and you'll be on the big bird heading south..although I have pain from time to time I can't imagine chronic pain..am sending you hugs/good thoughs and prayers for a quick recovery..
Jeannine..that infection has been with you far too long..have you been to your doctors'? Am sure you have..are you able to go to work though? I really should do a list for groceries that is condusive to 'dieting'..it's late by the time I get home and I know I don't eat properly..think I might access 'weight watchers' online and see if that might help..loosing about 20lbs would be great...30 even better lol now that I have a new summer wardrobe....Good news about DH and children's weight..that's what is so disappointing..you diet right along with everyone else, same and you either gain or no loss...my girlfriend said there is a new group up here it's called 'Survivor Warriors' quite an difficult program..up at 5..doing 1 1/2 hours of workout..dieting etc. says it will be good for her daughter but think I'll pass...weight watchers would be enough for me..last fall I purchased the weight watchers point manager..that was about it..time to get serious..think I'll pick up a salad for later this aft. and just go shopping..the walking excercise during lunch hour while shopping should do the trick..lol..my pocket would be lighter...
I took the metal brush to Sailor every day trying to get rid of excess fur..nothing worse than sweeping the floor and ending up with a bag of fur enough to make another doggie...I've learnt my lesson, this spring Sailor is going for a hair cut..no more hot spots for her...something you don't normally do but every year she pulls half of her coat off..joys of having furries...
Have t.v. on in the office here..giving us information of what to do if we fall into the ice..silly, STAY OFF..our norms are usually -2 and its +12 ..we broke the record at 7am this morning...people just don't learn..sure hope my boys have the goodsense to put those snowmachines away...
Betty,.
I suppose I owe you all an update on this tantalizing search of mine....
Rachierabbit sent me a D-mail and said she is good on the computer and asked me to send her his name--which I did. She dis all the searching, and this morning I had ALL the information on my old friend. Address, other relatives, a son (we believe--has an oriental name, as I mentioned that he adopted a couple of kids somewhere there), even someone's phone number.
Well, if i don't act quickly, I will get cold feet. Typed up a one page letter and put it in the mailbox. It is sitting there waiting to be picked up. I DID explain how I got his address --without naming any names. Thought I owed him that at least. Didn't want him to think I am some kind of stalker.......We wilol see...................:o/
I had to add a "cute" factor in a PS. I said, "Do you believe I still have my ice skates? They are sitting on the floor right next to me as I just advertised them for sale in our local "Pennysaver" (a free buy/sell publication we all get once a week).
Remember I told you our "dates" were taking a bus so we could ice skate on the Stadium skating rink? That was in 1960.....47 years ago!!! I DO wonder what he looks like????
When I knew him, he was tall and handsome with dark curly hair. Very fit, of course, as we were all serious Volleyball fiends. I played for 20 years and met my hubby through this sport. That all seems like another lifetime ago1
So, there's my update. I hope he will reply. One way or another----then I will fill you in...You are all my "secret Pals".
Gita
OMG I'm so excited..was there any note of a 'MRS' ..let's hope not..who knows, we just might end up being 'bridesmaids'..lol you are more patient than me, I'd have been calling the telephone number...all the kidding aside, it will be nice to touch basis
Rachel is such a sweetheart...
Hey Rachel, I need a sweetie as well, can you find me one..lol..I'm kind, semi-intelligent..crafty who knows..maybe there will be one on your list for me...lol
Just got back from shopping..bought a beautiful throw for my couch..of course there was a 2' glass santa and not having much Christmas stuff...now I've got you laughing...it had to come home with me..will take photo when I get home.. there was also a dip plate and knife in shape of a yorkie and a matching jug, so picked it up for my brother Mike and SIL Kim for next Christmas..will include it in their gift...so picked up my lunch and eating at my desk..everyone was excited when I came in..Paul called, said the fog would be moving in shortly so wanted us to leave at 3pm..ok by me..I'm driving so that will give me a change to stop in at the stained glass studio and pick up a few supplies I need for Paul's bay scene...late xmas gift..girls thought I meant it was for next year...I'm not that far ahead...I'm agitated today...keep feeling like something tragic will happen to my family..isn't that odd..almost like I can sense something..perhaps it's all the tragic news I've had lately making me feel that way...
35 more minutes and northbound here I come..be able to put my feel up, stew is already made..just enjoy...
Betty,
Now....Now......calm down! Do not count any chickens before they hatch. One just might end up with egg on one's face...
--I have NO idea of his marital status (would be easier to keep in touch if he was).
--I do not have his phone number. rachie said on one of the sites it showed that he had a house phone and a cell phone, but that info would cost money. She did find the phone # of Tok (his adopted son, I believe). IF he replies, then all that can be exchanged later. I did not ask, nor did I give, any personal information in my letter, nor my marital status. Nada!
--I have NO intention of getting married to anyone! Should I still be blessed with a relationship some day, it will be just that. I will live "in sin" (Haaaaaaaa...haaaaa......its 2008, folks!!)
Besides, if I were to marry, I would lose my alimony which is keeping me afloat in this frugal, single life. At my age, WHY would marriage be important anyway??????
Well, Betty. If you ever had a lost love, just give rachie his name. She will track him down for you in a blink. Part of the service at DG! ....:o)
Best: Got his address and had the guts to write a letter to him.
Worst: Worried that he is happily married and will have NO interest in re-establishing contact with me. After all- I stood HIM up! But--that is such ancient history........
What I learned?--It is OK to be brazen at an advanced age.....Ok to take a chance. Gets the juices going!
Gita
Edited to say we had 63 degrees today. Warmer tomorrow. Will confuse all the plants and trees! What else is new? 2 days ago was in the teens!
This message was edited Jan 7, 2008 6:09 PM
You are just too cute Gita..was just joking with you...
No lost sweethearts...only sweethearts I married...
What a storm..just got in..wanted to go to the Stained Glass studio as I was early today but we've a torrential downpour, lightning and thunder..my yard is like a lake .. thought I might make a few small ditches so water escapes but the ground if frozen..better put on my boots and try again then I can relax for the evening...so gab later..where is a man when you need one?
I AM NOT ANSWERING MY TELEPHONE for the rest of 2008..Just got a call from Barrie to tell me Bill Wilson whom I worked with at the Township of Georgian bay for over 20 years passed away today..Bill was never married..think he had a sweet tooth for me..lol...I always enjoyed his company..guess he is about 73..still young...does the news ever stop???
Oh No!
Just incredible Betty..I am sorry..I do hope you manage to keep your spirits up.
Gita,
I am hoping your old friend responds to you. You deserve credit for following up.
Garden girl..I am doing the same thing....LOL...have to eat all the chocolates before I decide to knock off a few pounds.
Well I went out to do a few errands and a brake line went..brakes went right to the floor. I nursed the car to the repair shop..and they drove me home. They will fix it tomorrow. Just had a brake line fixed in early December..it could be the same side or maybe the other....time will tell.
Cheers,
Carol
HELLO MY FRIENDS!!
I have missed you all very much! Happy New Year to each of you, sending a smile and warm hugs too!! Welcome Ruby.
Well, We sure have too giggle up around a bit, Here we travelled 1213 miles to get warm-right.
One day of warm 71 and then COLD,cold in the 30 and one eve 20! But hey it was Sunny, woohoo.
The day we left it was 65. Today just about an hour ago we rolled into our driveway...it is 71, hmmmm
LOL geesh.
Tried a couple of time to say hi on their computer but it just wasn't working, plus there were lines. They only had two, better then none. But I sure thought of you all daily...Thank you Liz for translation of my calls, so sweet of you. So, I just came to say Hello, we are Home Safely!
Betty was very sorry to hear about your friend, Prayers going up for Geraldine. Was so Glad you had a good trip home.
See you all in a bit...got a ton to catch up with.
Judy, glad you are home..missed you..sorry we didn't get to meet..but we must plan a get together not by chance..for real..when you get a chance, check out Frankenmuth Michigan..would it be 1/2 way..might even be able to talk Carol into going along for the ride..
Called Geraldine tonight..she was feeling down..they burried Bert today..she had already heard about Bill Wilson and Trevor White..who ever called her about Trevor told her when they picked him up his brain was out of his head..do you think this is possible...
Well I'm off to bed..watch t.v. for awhile..still haven't eaten supper and I've enough stew for all of you..
Best..coming home early, getting some nice things at lunch hour..love the chesterfield throw and Santa
Worse..getting more sad news about friends..that's 3 men inside a little better than a week, besides Ann/Denise and Trevor...imagine
What did I learn..when you are not feeling well, don't pick up the towels that you used..sat the telephone on the towel before taking a bath incase it rang..you got it, heard a clunk and there it was in a washer full of water...and.... when putting stew in microwave DON'T put it on for 5 minutes (without a lid) because the micro will take on a pretty colorful look..
So before I get into any more mischief, think I'd better call it a night...
Oh, Betty!
And you had a premonition that something sad was going to happen!
If you read the site about Wilkie (that starzz posted) and how he sees death, it may ease your sorrow.
I have now read everything there is to read on that site. Interesting--even if it is a bit repetitious.
Take good care of yourself, Gita
Just stopping in to say hello to everyone. Gita, I read all the posts even if I don't post much. Keeping my fingers crossed for yoU!!!
Betty I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. You're right 73 is not that old! Sending thoughts and prayers to his family.
Betty, I am so sorry about your friend. Prayers to you.
Gita, I don't what site Rachel used but I always use Zabasearch to look for anyone and I always find them! Most of the time, there is a phone there too. In addition, you can see if anyone else by that name (like a female) resides at that address. Just put the last name in and the state they live and it will bring them up. Good luck with that.
Betty, we need to find you a young, rich guy to keep up with you!!! LOL
Well, DH is watching football - isn't every man in America watching the "big" game tonight???? Blah - I'm going to bed!!
Night all!
Jeannine
