yes the tomatoes could be wintersown but i have never tried it because from what i have read it delays harvesting a bit..with this short growing season we have here it might be too late for me for the later maturing varieties like the pineapple which is around 90 days

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

thank you starlight1153 :)

tcs1366 no parsley....well, I have way old seeds from '98 for curled moss parsley...sorry I guess I planted all the seeds I had last yr and I didn't pay attention to it to harvest any '07 seeds!!!!!!!

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Parsley seeds are only good for two years :) I don't have any have to go buy some myself this year.

http://faculty.matcmadison.edu/mchristoffel/plants/seeds/viability.htm

http://www.hillgardens.com/seed_longevity.htm

got these off of a thread the other day.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I gather they are pretty cheap anyways....

how would one "gather' seeds from parsley? I'm just doing it for the butterflies... and would they self seed?

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Parsley is biannual they flower their second year and when the seeds come on and turn brown then you collect them, Suzy might have something to add to that. They do reseed.

Winterville, GA(Zone 8a)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Fairy... should have enough coleus for you too.

Grampapa... Are you lookign for a specific color of snaps?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi all - am quite a bit behind..

Wind, The Mina climbed up a double shepherd's crook and bloomed as if it were a GIGANTIC hanging basket. I only sowed 3 seeds, and after I poked and prodded one to death, I only had 2 plants. These plants made the shepherd's crook list at a 20 degree angle, even though it was a thick steel pole, and dug in 20" in the ground and had a huge spring-like thing under there, too. It was AWESOME, but don't plant too many!

I do have seeds for it -- maybe 1012 in a package to save you from sowing too many and having a mess on your hands :) I will say it doesn't bloom until later.

When everything shakes out, and things come to a sort of stop, and this might not be for a few weeks, but when it does happen, I will need everybody to redo their wish lists and things they wants lists before sending it in to me as swap hostess.

For me as a participant, seeing posts on this thread is easier for me than dmail, exactly the opposite of what I thought it would be, so I thought I'd mention it. I have a funny feeling I am missing some posts, or have said I'll send somehting(s) and forgotten all about it, so I will not feel bad if you sort of remind me what I'm sending you. :)

I think I have some parsley, a named variety (nothing but the best for my butterflies!) in my good seeds, but I don't need it because I have a bunch that actually grew from last year. LeBug is right about the seeds -- they are just brown seeds laying there in little baby cup like calyxes after the flowers fade away. I've always had trouble germinating parsely, so I asked in one of the forums, and the poster responded her grandmother's technique -- direct sow them in a fairly small area, hold a wooden spoon over the area and pour boiling water on the spoon which dribbles down on the seeds. Mine all germinated! I guess they need some serious heat to break dormancy.

Rachie & PamSue, Thank you!

Ah, Terese, You're an angel! Thanks so much. Is it too early to send seeds? Let me think...are you in any other swaps that might be coming in between now and Jan 25th? Any orders you placed that will be coming in? LOL!

We need to get some player's names on those packages before you send them out....let me do a little marketing for you. Is there anything on the package that tells how tall the Bachelor's Buttons are? (If they're 20", I want them, LOL! But most are 12" or 30". Also, Are those bulbk seeds commercial seeds? Or garden harvested?

Hang tite, and we'll see what I can come up with to get some names on it and then you can mail as early as Thursday next week

All, I might be going to Florida Jan 15-22, but Mr, Clean will take care of the packages and put them in my little bus tub if they come in.

Suzy

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

all the info i put on the lil slips of paper i have with the seeds I grabbed off of Dave's.
the Buttons say 24-36", but i dont think mine were that high [20-24 maybe but certainly not as high as 30"].
and they came in a Bird & Butterfly mix that I WS'ed last year.
so these seeds are from my garden.

all of the seeds for my end of the swap, came from my garden, with the exception of 2 seeds, which were send to me from other gardeners. [the Giant Cosmos and Mammoth sunflower]

and No, I'm not in any other SWAP.

thursday ?? -- I can wait til thursday.

and for all the extra seeds... you can also do free seeds for SASE LOL.

One of my favorite pictures on DG is this one:

Cornflower 'Blue Carpet'
Centaurea cyanoides
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/642207/

And LeBug is offering the seeds for it! If you try to dulpicate this, fill the container to the tippy top with soilless mix/potting soil because these guys are prostrate and having them down an inch is hard on the baby seedlings.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Did you know Morning Gories will grow and bloom inside the house quite easily?

Here is one I had from last year I started right about the middle or end of Jan.

You clip the main stem at the 5th or 6th node to get a little better branching.

Anybody want to try it with TCS's Grandpa Otts MGs?

Thumbnail by Illoquin
Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

WOW -- that is very pretty.
I dont container garden. [well i have a few in wisconsin, but not at home]
I'm not home enough in the summer to water them.

my neighbor does TONS of containers.... all that women does it water her pots. I tried to convince her to get some polymer crystals... even go in halfs ... but nope... she likes to water.

If LeBug has extras.... can you set some aside for me? *big cheezy grin*

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

>>Anybody want to try it with TCS's Grandpa Otts MGs?

oh... and I have MORE. you just said to limit MG's to 2 packages. these things REALLY produce seeds!! just wish i would have gotten more Heavenly Blues.

**ugg.... ** i'm so bored.... can you tell?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Here is TCS1366's list. If you want anything ANYTHING from this list, let her know by Wednesday :)))

Asclepias curassavica Scarlet Milkweed 5 packets BUTTERFLIES use the flowers as nectar. Monarch cats use the leaves as hosts; this would also be good for a red bed. The foliage on these is very pretty and they are not weedy at all.

Centaurea cyanus Bachelor's Button [light blue flower] 1 packet 24-30"tall. Bachelor's Buttons are one of the very few annual that are u and runningbefore the frist has left the ground. They make excellent cutflowers, but for the flowers left o nthe plant, the goldfinches are the best. They perch on the stems and eat the seeds, but their weight makes the plant slowly lower, nearly to the ground, but the finches don't realize they are that far down because they are still feeding on the seeds. You can see the moment they realize they are down father than they like because they sort of shake a little and fly away, only to return a moment later to continue feedling. These are supposed ot reseed, but I did not see any seedlings in my beds in late fall -- more piggies!

Coreopsis Grandiflora 'Early Sunrise' 4 packets - This has gotten rave review in the Perennials forum on a thread titled Plants I will never be without, or somehting similar.. It's a mid-height lance-leaf type with fully double yellow flowers. Quite eye catching.

Cosmos sulphureus 'Cosmic Orange' 2 packets 12" This was a recent AAS winner, will reseed. Very tidy plant habit and a go getter, even inthe hot summer.

Gaillardia aristata 'Goblin' [blanket flower] 4 packets 12" tall - makes a good border edging plant and blooms through the hot hot summers. Can be grouped with some electric blue behind it for an eye popping display in summer.

Helianthus annuus Mammoth Sunflower 'Gray Stripe' 3 packets. This is the one you use when you make a tee pee for your kids or grandkids. You need 3 x the number of seeds you think you'll need, BTW. Can't tell you the number of posts I 've read where the person says they wished they had used way more seeds. I love it because it's the ones the birds fight over, and the squirrels try to climb because of the seeds. It's just all around good fun!

Ipomoea purpurea 'GrandPa Ott" Morning Glory 2 packets - There are a lovely purple with a hairline edge of red. These will grow and bloom inside the house!

toronto, Canada

Wow Illoquin, you are really good! You almost had me on the coneflowers, and then I start thinking where can I put MG's in the house???!!! Please market my list too, mine are ready to go :-)) And unfortunately I can't use either of the above, but great marketing! KD
