(((Debbie))) .... there was a time when I first came here that I did not know what it meant either... ;)
Dave's Garden Party
i sure didn't know till now!
LOL, the first time I saw Christi post bump, I thought she was making a snerky remark about the post above it. :) Of course I know Christi better than that, but I was wondering.
Still lurking here! Still really, really want this to happen, no matter where it takes place. Still want to go!
Ooooh .... if it's in Texas, I can buy cowgirl boots and a hat! :) Well ... at least a hat, don't know when I'd ever wear boots since I live in flip flops most of the year. But, hey ... a cowboy hat and flip flops would be cool, right?
I am just waiting to hear what month it will be! Hopefully after the cold months of January/February?
i am just one person but I soooo much prefer Austin or San Antonio for the get together. Austin is the place to be these days as far as botanical gardens, etc. It is the friendliest environmentally conscious city in Texas. Dallas, to me, is just one long 81/2 hour drive to get to pavement, heat and a large large city.
Austin is such a unique city in the state if we are staying in the state. I just love the bumper stickers I see everyday that say ,"Keep Austin Weird"! Austin has more public parks and open water to the public than any place I know for a city of (just guessing) about 500,000 or maybe 600,000 people but it seems so small and friendly.
i agree that austin and san antonio are both excellent choices in texas--it would be fun to go durring blue bonnet time but i know that is kind of chancy--
Ok guys, I am kind of new to using Dave's Garden. I have been a member for a year, but it is taking me a long time to learn my way around. I love the website and learn so much and everyone seems so nice and friendly. When I first joined, I was so excited and contacted everyone in my area requesting we get together sometime as I had very few "garden friends". It seems people that garden have a real connection. You can just "see" it through the forum as they write.
I am very interested in this party, who doesn't like to "party"?? :) I am willing to help. I like being involved. I have good organizational skills, & leadership skills. I can do research, telephoning, mailings, and am a team player. I will keep watching this post. Thanks to Dave and staff for this website and thanks to the "Committee" for this neat opportunity.
Let's start posting links to public gardens we would really love to see http://www.fwbg.org/rose.htm
Welcome birder. There will be vote starting Monday as to who is interested in as many of us that is able, may gather together in celebration of Dave and Dave's Garden. It will be fantastic.

The Fort Worth gardens are soooo stunning...
I agree that Ft. Worth has great gardens...but then I'd LOVE to have the DGP in Austin...my town! I didn't want to suggest bc it would look as if I wanted to stay here..and I don't!
Austin does have wonderful nurseries...and they are so good at really showing DG'ers a great time when you let them know you're doing a nursery tour. We did one last summer and one nursery (THe Great Outdoors...it's huge!gave us some little knap sacks with a water bottle, etc.
I would come, but would have to drive. I mean........how are ya gonna take things home on a plane?
I did that from Maryland once, it's a little dicey.
Molly
Just got home from helping DH with a dinner for his mother. She was 90 yesterday and we threw a family party at her house today. She won't leave it for anything. Had a really good time. Hope I am in as good shape at 90...uh, if I make it to 90.
Really like all those goooood, positive remarks. I don't care where it is...as long as IT IS. And I KNOW IT IS GONNA HAPPEN. YAY! TEAM!
Keep those cards and letters coming.
Connie, i am still voting Austin for a lot of reasons (the prettiest city in Texas by far) and wherever there is a big university the food is good amd the people are nice. The new regional airport makes it so much easier now to get in and get out. There are several very upscale nurseries on 38th street and the one on 291/2 street that aren't any more expensive. They are just outsanding nurseries along with many that you have mentioned.
So far, this is basically a north Texas group of DGers who so graciously started this idea but howso h do we get more people involved in the state and out of state? Voting time is going to mean that North Texas shows up in mass??
If Bryan College Station had the facilities (and they might) it is a wonderful college town also. The horticultural dept. at A&M doesn't get any better anywhere in the US.
I loved the one very hot July morning that I spent at http://www.mobot.org/ The daylilies were unbelieveable, and I am going to go back when the irises are in bloom. If you have a chance, visit this garden.
patrob, mobot is one of my favorite places, and not just because it is close to home. Every season it is a wonderful place to go for a walk.
I did not know we had 500 mile radius, Everybody is not going to be withing 500 miles. That don't seem fair. I am willing to go almost anywhere once a year. I agree with Sylvain up there in Post #4350925
Besides us Hosta people cover a vast area in the USA and Canada. Its not like its a convention where you are required to attend ... you go because you want too, not because you have too.
Sylvia
Sylvia,...I think the 500 mile thing is not a radius, but the farthest Dave is willing to go. I could be mistaken. I don't read all posts...no time! :-)
Right Sylvia the 500 miles is Daves request, he wants it close to College Station so he can be there. We can have it anywhere but he will only be there for sure if we are with in the 500 miles.
I don't read all posts...no time! :-)
Thank you, Connie for clarifying our communication problem. It has been posted over and over and over that a location has not been selected. Too soon. The time has not been selected. Too soon.
just as a side note: Not all of the committee lives in North Texas.
Dave and Trish are THE #1 priority.
Molly, you can send a couple of big boxes home via UPS for the money you'll save in gas. Just ship your treasures back home! ;)
patrob thankyou so much for the link. Beautiful.
And to echoe a past sentiment, What is tribute to Dave, without Dave :)
Dave has done a wonderful wonderful thing for all of us by starting Daves Garden. The original idea was to honor Dave and Trish and thank them for all of their hard work involved in keeping this fantastic website running efficiently. And to assemble in a state that will allow Dave time to join with us, as well as keep up his tremendous job of running Daves Garden website at the same time.
At the same time is the key. It's not where Dave is willing to go, but able to go and be close enough to continue the every moment job of Daves Garden.
It is only going to be for a few days, and for most of us, we can save and schedule around that, especially with a year advanced notice. For some of us, no matter where or when it is held, we won't be able to attend. Hence the head count or vote beginning Monday the 7th.

Have you voted YES yet?
Yes!!!!!
Yep! ...actually I voted IF...
Nows I see we have Hereford in TX and Hereford in AZ...LOL Jo
Yes! I actually referred to Jo in my comment after voting...great idea about the coffee mug Jo!
Yes, excellant idea Jo. I was doing laundry earlier and thought, you know I could that too. (Get me a coffee mug that says Daves and start saving.)And shari, thankyou so much for the post in the voting booth. Very encouraging. I am sooooooooooo excited to meet all of you. There is going to be so much to do and see and people to hug. My, my I just can't wait.
Debbie
as for a dave's mug--i think it would be fun to wear a dave's shirt --not just to the party but before--i sometimes wonder when i am shopping plants if someone else in the store is a dave's gardener!! there are a lot of texans who are--sometime i am going to get and wear one and see if anything happens!!
I just got one for myself and DH. Beware, they are sized very large. Saving mine for a swimsuit coverup.
Hi, I agree plano. Everytime I am in nursery, I look at the other people and wonder if they are a member of DG. Isn't that weird? We have it bad, is all I can say. LOL
i would just love it if someone else wore a shirt and i could go over and introduce myself!! one time a man from south america came over to me and said that he just likes looking sometimes and how he misses some of the beautiful plants he grew there in a very tropical area--i understood because sometimes even if i'm not buying it just feels good to walk among the plants and other plant lovers!!
See ya'll that's what I mean. Can you just imagine being all together , doing garden workshops together, listening to speakers telling us their gardening secrets, eating together, going on garden tours together, rubbing elbows with the vendors that we buy from. Please everyone, try to vote and really try to come. I think as soon as they get some sort of sample headcount, then the bargaining with the hotels, etc will begin. The committee will do everything possible to get us all the best rates possible, I'm sure. Don't forget to vote.
do we go to a specific place to vote? is there anything to vote on yet? i did say i was going but maybe it needs to be a more official "yes" that i post somewhere else?
On the home page in the voting booth!
Linda,
Go up and click on the "Home" tab. Then scroll down keeping your eyes over to the right of the screen. The place where the regular weekly voting booth is at, is the place to place your vote.
Been there, done that.
Molly
ohhhhhhhhhhh thanks! still learning the ins and outs of the website--
Clicked yes. Only a few things would keep me away and at this point are nothing to worry about. So far so good. :~)
The shirts are SUCH a great idea. On Veteran's Day, my DH and I and my Dad were all wearing special shirts, mine and DH's listed the ships sunk in and around our atoll, and my dad's listed the men from Brownsville that were lost or MIA in Vietnam. We had people coming up to us constantly, saying I knew that ship, or that man....And we were in MEXICO! Shirts give you instant bonding. I envision a sea of DG shirts all welcoming Dave to the first DG Garden Party Gala!!!
Yep, my DG tee's will be packed! Except the one I wear on the plane - to wherever the Garden Party is located!
I agree. I'm going to Daves store now to see what they offer. Visors, different colors etc.
oh this is too much fun!!! lovin it!
