Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I asked that question a long time ago and received no response.

Don't worry, weegy. You didn't offend me. We are used to the kidding about the size of our mosquitoes. In fact, there is one town here where they actually have a "mosquito festival". They even advertise that they have "fried mosquito" sandwiches! That's carrying things a bit too far, I think. LOL We have a lot of 'festivals' of one kind or another here. Any reason to celebrate something!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello Jo and Pat, maybe they don't have it all together yet and that is why they didn't answer, I am sure that is why.

Surely they know who is on the "committee"? The first post on this thread asked if I had gotten my invitation, etc.

I think that "invitation" comment was just an "attention getter" heading....but I too find it strange that we don't know who are on the committee. All right guys....you "chosen ones" (uh...volunteers?!) stand up and be recognized for all the hard work you have been doing! :-)

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Seems like it is Lou and Mitch that are spear heading this. At this point it seems they are just wanting us to commit to attending, are hoping they can make the venue Dallas.

Lou and Mitch,
Do you have experience with this type of thing?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, guess I will try to explain. First answer, yes, we do know what we are doing. Second, it is very difficult. Third, Dallas is not the destination as I have said many times before. I live in Dallas County as does Mitch and the easiest way to garner information is close to ones own territory. I believe that just follows common sense. We are not the only ones on the committee. The committee was formed by Trish and Dave and when and if they see fit to tell, that is their perogative. Connie, you are correct about the "attention getter". How else could we get it across that we are making a huge effort to have the very first ever "party"? The threads are very long now but all of the questions have been answered many times. For any kind of "party" be it birthday or anniversary, or just a good time...the first requirement is HOW MANY. Chef, I'm sure you can relate that you don't start preparing a meal without knowing how many you're going to feed. I need to repeat that without voice inflection to help, words can be misinterpreted. I am feeling very mellow and not confrontational at all so please read this in that context. We have talked to many venues and they more or less shut down when we tell them we don't know how many and that this is a first time thing. Monday, January 7th through Sunday, January 13th the voting booth will be running to give everyone an opportunity to respond. THEN, depending on the count, the business of when and where will go forth in earnest. Those of you who have indicated you want to help better be ready because your names are on a list.

As to Mitch and I spearheading, that is and isn't altogether the final story. Someone has to be "outfront". Debbie and I very publicly discussed a "what if scenario" in a thread in November. This is a small little coal that is growing into a warming fire big enough for everyone. It is an idea whose time has come. It is not easy task and will probably be more difficult as time goes on. Those who have attended an RU and had a great time, did you thank those that organized it? Well, please do because it didn't happen all by itself.

The "Committee" so wants this to be a highlight in our lives. One where the people who populate Dave's Garden to actually meet and spend time with those we have all made friends with. To meet Dave and Trish and their family, and Terry, and all the other staff members who work so hard to give us a place to learn about what is obviously our passion...Gardening in all of it's glory.

We will continue to ask for your help in spreading the word on every thread you visit.

SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW, IN 2009, THERE WILL BE A "PARTY" TO HONOR DAVE AND TRISH AND THE JOB THEY DO EVERYDAY FOR US!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL, Christi I think you must be the designated PR Gal!
Thanks for the Diplomatic, direct and informative as you can be at the moment update!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Lou,
Thank you for the clarification. Knowledge is power.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I so agree with you on that, Chef. There is nothing to hide and we are not trying to do so. I have tried everyday to tell all I know and we want everybody to be as excited as we are.

rj, I know this is off subject, but I saw your gardens in your diary. Fabulous. I can't wait til we are able to tour some beautiful gardens during the Daves get together. Can you just imagine walking around with all of this gardening experience making comments. I think I will walk around, going from group to group with a tape recorder:) I am so excited about the get together. Hurry up 2009 and get here.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

lou, can you add links back to the original threads for those of us who just found this? It might help answer questions. Thanks, c4

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

You can just link the one post Christi...to wherever you want...
right click the small post number under your name and information on the left side of the post and right click...hold...and select copy shortcut...and you will only copy the one post instead of the entire thread...

Instead of going backwards, lets just keep going forward. The vote banner that will be up on January the 7th will explain alot. Sure hope to see all of you participating. After the vote, many details will be given, but we must have a headcount before any of that. Ya'll keep on giving suggestions about what you would like to see take place at this huge event. Remember this is for the entire membership, and different folks like different things. Waiting on your ideas.

cathy 4, this may help. The very first post of this thread pretty much explains everything. Also, the links are the 2nd thru the 4th or 5th post at the beginning.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Thanks, you are right, everything we need to know is here. I had missed the 500 miles from Dave part for suggestions of locations. c4

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

We really ARE working in the best interests of every single member. Why would we not?

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

Making everyone happy is impossible Lou. At some point decisions will be made that will work from the majority. don't let it get you down. Hip Hip Hooray for the Planners!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you, Cathy. Sounds like you speak from experience. I know I do. And of course, having been involved before always makes one wonder why you would ever do it again. Because I love you that's why.

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

haha Lou, that is why I keep starting to say I'll help, then delete it, thinking "ARE YOU NUTS?"

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Oh there is going to be alot of good, positive, loving help on this big project. Thanks c4 for volunteering:)

"told you we were taking notes"LOL

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ooh...River walk!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

If I had known Springfield was less than 500 miles from Texas I would have recommended it a long time ago. lol.

Still lurking and watching. Learning new things every time. :~)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, pep. Glad to see you are here tonight.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Hi LouC! I'm everywhere tonight. lol

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

bump

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Christi, please tell me what bump means:)

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Never mind Christi, I figured it out LOL:)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

She's gone to bed, I guess. It means you want the thread to show up in the "recent posts" when a person signs on, so you "bump" by just posting with that word. Does that explain it for you?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Weird that our posts are 8 minutes apart, but I didn't see yours when I wrote that explanation! I guess there's a lag a times! Sorry...

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi Connie, I'm sure you are probably in bed by now. I'm just taking a break from making drapes. Yes, thankyou for confirming what I was thinking. I have never seen that before I saw Christi doing it. But then guess what, now I'm seeing in on alot of forums. Never noticed before. :)

Plano, TX

well i know how you got your name drapelady! i don't make drapes but i love fabric and of course drape fabric can really be neat--but that of course is not the topic-sorry-----

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Typically bumping is used if you have a thread in a busy forum and it's starting to slip too far down the page but you haven't got the answer you wanted yet, then you bump it and it goes back up to the top of the page where people will see it again.

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Hi plano, yes I am a maker of drapery. I love seeing a flat piece of fabric turning into something beautiful..
Now I have a new love to add to that.. Watching plain ole dirt, begin to grow something wonderful to look at.
Hi ecrane, thanks so much. I knew it was a dumb question, but I just had to ask:)

Debbie

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Debbie, there are no dumb questions... ;) ....

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Thankyou fsrstarr.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I agree--there are no dumb questions! I didn't know what bump meant when I first saw it either and I've seen lots of people ask that question, so it was definitely not a dumb one!
