That looks small for 'Kopper King', Deb. I have it. Also the foliage is burgundy.
90 days till Spring!
Sherrie, you mentioned "they would be nothing like going down to the garden and picking a fresh tomato or cuke right now . . . "
That reminded me that I left some carrots in the ground in the fall - I wonder what they look like now?!
Ah, Victor, it's been in my garden for a few years and now gets quite tall - over my head so 6 feet or so. The flowers can be 5" across sometimes, when it's not a jb magnet.
I've forgotten what it was called. Hibiscus.....something. Good for the back of the garden against a wall or the house. I have it tied up as soon as it starts getting tall and thinks about falling over.
Lots and lots of seeds. I let the seed pods stay on all winter 'cause they look neat.
wow! that is huge! how tall is it?
Not very - only about 4 1/2 feet high. The blooms are about 8 inches across though. They are spectacular.
Deb, I would like some seeds...
And they will bloom this year if I plant from seeds??? sure... how much sun does it need??? I have an area that will get sun in the morning only (I have some hostas there and they did well!)
Kassia,
The hibiscus I have are a very tall plant. I think they should be full sun. You could put them in one of your veg gardens in the back because they are kind of unruly. Remind me in the spring and i'll dig you out a couple of babies. I think you'll have more luck with same year blooms with 1 or 2 year old plants than seedlings.
If you drive by my house, it is the tall plant with the dried seed heads right to the right of the front door - in the little garden with the gazing globe....
:)
Deb
I also owe you some "silver dollar" plants that I forgot to give you seeds for...Lots of babies of those too. I was too busy to pull out all the seedlings this fall....
Thanks Deb! I saw you walking Andrew and Ben last week... we need to get together... how's the girls???
I have been looking at the catalog for Green mountain Transplants in Maine - I wonder if is anywhere close to your mom's... I want to plan the trip there as soon as our weather is good... I am going to place my order and just go and get it...I am wondering if we could go together!
First, happy President's Day! Second,
There's only 31 days until Spring!!! Just one month!!!
Happy days are here again . . . !!!
Thanks - same to you and everyone on the forum!
Good - one month and then we start spring sowing!
Hi Kassia,
Are you sure it was me walking the dogs, or the dogs walking me?! That definitely seems to be more of the true situation!
Green Mt. Transplants is maybe 20 min. from my mom's house, I guess. I would love to go up with you! Maybe we could make a day trip or a weekend so the pups could run on the beach?
I've started a bunch of hollyhocks and delphiniums in the house already and have a lot of heirloom tomatoes to start in a few weeks, but I'll take a look at their catalog and see if there is anything else i want (not need - I don't really "need" any of this stuff - it just keeps me happy)
have you seen my new "gardeners' car" - the green beetle?
Deb
ONE MONTH!!!!!!! oh this is so sweet... even looking at the grass around here was great... not that my street is completely clean - tons of snow still on the ground on my street but so many places it was all melted today... but there is hope for us!
Deb, they were draging you... by all means! don't know how you do it!!!! oh I want to see your new car!!!!
I called Green Mountain Transplants today - their plants are really great price - and they have tons of daylilies too... I am definitely going there - they have some other stuff I want - paper mulch and other things. Well it's only 111 miles so not bad...
Kassia,
You know, I'm still breaking in the engine on the new car, it hasn't done any distance travel yet.....
(Only kidding, the Buggle is too small for all the plants the two of us would purchase so we'd definitely be taking the Van)
;-)
oh Deb, I have 2 cars now... well, one is for my sister to use it, another PT cruiser... I will definitly fold the seats so we have tons of room for plants...
But if you take the van, take the seats out and no dogs we might be able to fit in all the plants we would buy!!!! lol... that's how Zuzu and Kell shop in CA... actually when they come home Kell pile some plants on Zuzu also!!!
I want to see the beattle.... it may be the only beattle we will ever like it...
I got about 2 months to go. "pouting" I have to get my butt in gear. I got to get that GH cleaned out. Some of you will remember how I actually got started here.
This GH is going to be put to the ultimate test this year. Its not going to do just veggies. I still don't quite know what the heck I am doing but what the heck. Try or die.
I lost all my pictures last year as the comp got fried during a t-storm. I printed this one out and had to scan it. grrrrrrrrrrrr
Great picture! And so encouraging!!!!!
Yes, very encouraging.
Thanks Deb... definitely that car is not for our gardner experience in ME!!!! nevetheless is really cute!
good luck with the green house!!!!!
