90 days till Spring!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Mine too, hence the name, "Shadow". He's always underfoot and you can't see him in the dark.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Have you tripped over him often, Harper? Livingstone always seems to know when I am moving around and steps gently out of my way. That's no mean feat, as she is almost deaf and partially blind. She's getting old - *sigh*

(And yes, before Victor asks ... we also had a cat by the name of Stanley)

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

My two cats used to sit at my feet when I cooked dinner and now Colin has taken their place of honor. The cats sat about two feet away cause they learned after being stepped on, but Colin hasn't learned that lesson yet - probably cause I haven't stepped on him !! LOL Eleanor

Just had to look up an old pic of the cats and scan it. Here are Squeak and Dustmop waiting for a handout!! Eleanor

Eleanor, I love their names!

Years ago, one of my kittens was named Wacko, because it was the most off-the-wall cat I've ever seen!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Thanks Sue! Wacko would have been a good name for either one of ours also. But Squeak squeaked everytime we picked her up and Dustmop looked like a dustmop so that is how they got their names! Eleanor

Many years ago I had a crosseyed cat that we named whoops because he used to walk into / off of things he was the sweetest cat . I found him and his 4 brothers and sisters in a dumpster duct taped in a box . I heard a faint meow and found them . who would do such a thing ? : ( I found homes for the others but whoops was so sweet I kept him

laura - a lot of people throw away unwanted pets. We lived on a farm and had cats dropped off all of the time. At least on the farm they had a chance, but it sounds like the people who threw away whoops and his siblings wanted to kill them! I actually saw a whole family, parents and kids, throw a cat out of a car window in the woods. What an awful thing to teach your kids to do!! Eleanor
p.s. - I like the name whoops!

Laura - love how well that pink EB outfit goes with Bella's pinkish hue. She is one patient pup!

Kassia - Poor little Lilly - hope she comes around soon!

Adorable boys you have too, Tamberlin!

Eleanor - Squeak and Dustmop are too much! Love those names!

Pretty shot, AgedGardener! Stay warm!!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i had a roommate who called his cats Varmint and DooDoo Head.
i always hated when people'd come over and ask me what their names were...

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

My cat, Misty Lou, stayed on at my parents house when I got married. It was the only home she knew and my dad really liked her, so she was fine. After they both passed away, 2 weeks apart (stroke and cirrhosis/old age), my brother, who had an apt. in the basement told me I better come get her or he'd shoot her.

He hates cats and I knew better - I was there that very same day! She was 12 or 13 when she and our other cat, Velvet, died of smoke inhalation in our house fire. Now we have three replacements!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, Sue - how terribly sad to lose your cats that way. So sorry. House fires are so traumatic.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - that was hilarious!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Candyce, yes, I've tripped over Shadow. It's like he wants to get stepped on. He's the kind of dog that will run in front of you, then stop right in your path, forcing you to stop. Silly dog! His toes have been crunched more than a few times. You'd think he'd learn!

Eleanor, dustmop really does look like a dustmop!

Laura, funny about how Whoops got his name. Sad about how you found him. Thank you for that good deed.

I remember that skit too Sue! My son and I repeat it verbatim sometimes, we love it so much!

Harper

Oh gosh never have I wished for spring to come so soon!!!

I think the bug on this forum has really gotten to me!!! I am certainly counting down the days!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

So, how many days is it now?

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

54!!!

(Zone 4a)

Woohoooo!!!! Bring it on!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

54 days until Spring ...
so that's about 84 days until our crocus will be blooming here in southern NH.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Happy, happy, joy, joy!!! It's 32 deg. today!! Spring is on it's way!!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Harper, my teen is always singing that!

Oh, speaking of cat names - once, my dad heard a cat outside the kitchen door early in the morning, so got up to let it in (thinking it was one of ours). Later, around 5, my brother woke up with a cat sleeping on his bed. He kept it and named it Fiver because of the time!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Cute story. Cats do have a way of taking over without even trying.
If spring doesn't hurry up and get here I will be so broke and have so much plant material arriving I will be in the middle of fall before I get it all in the ground. Long cold days filled with snow and ice make for a bad combo with on-line ordering! Yikes! I hope Feb. zips along quickly.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

February should zip along faster than the other months - only 29 days!! LOL Only problem, March is a really long month and our spring usually doesn't arrive when the calendar says it should. March is such a boring month but this year I'm going to start some seeds inside and that should brighten up the last few weeks of winter weather. I remember when I was in college (about 1968 or 69) spring break in March was really warm and we returned to the annual water fight. My mother opened the dorm side door and almost got a garbage can full of water in her face, but the student changed his direction just in time when he saw that it was a parent. Dad always liked to tell that story - he was sitting in the car waiting for her and saw the whole thing. He was probably hoping she got soaked so it would have made his story even better!! The annual dosing took place on the first really warm day in spring. At Ithaca college the sororities and fraternities were dorms that were set aside for them and supervised by the college. One fraternity had their water fight inside and had to replace the carpets every year - it was their major fund raiser for the year. Ahh!! Memories!! Eleanor

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like fun, Eleanor! I never went to college and wish I did whenever I hear dorm stories. My mom brainwashed me into becoming a secretary because it would be something that I could always fall back on.

I did enjoy my years in office work - it was something that I was really good at. Then after getting carpal tunnel and ordered never to type again (ha! ha! - computers hadn't come out yet), I went into waitressing/supervising at a Friendly's restaurant - I had a blast working there! But, then I injured my back . . . my chiropractor loves me to this day!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Being a musician (played the piano) for 50 some years keeps me at the chiroprator. I have a bad back from several falls during pregancies, bad neck, playing the piano, standing at the piano in a classroom, and of course carpal tunnel, trigger finger and tennis elbow all from playing the piano. I had surgery on the hands to keep them going and go to the chiropractor weekly to keep my back and neck from tightening up!! We could be twins!! For a music major college was also a lot of work - most of our time was spent in the practice room. Not just on our instrument but also sight singing, music dictation, and theory - there were a lot of skills to learn!! Some were lucky and already had these skills! Gotta go, DH just arrived with sunday morning coffee!! Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I find that I am attending more 'classes' at the UofDG these days.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Good place to take classes - tuition is cheaper too!! And you're probably learning more! LOL Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Absolutely!

And, occasionally we even have dorm parties, too! (She said, thinking of Michaela's Planting Party in May)

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Good one, Candyce!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And Eleanor can teach us music! When's the first lesson?

Do you sing Tenor - ten or eleven miles away? Nyuk, nyuk!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Soprano if struck in the wrong area.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Careful with the pitch fork (I mean pitch pipe) Eleanor

(Zone 4a)

We woudln't want you singing soprano because of a pitch fork accident.....way too sad!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

"U of DG" I like that one Candyce!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yes, Harper, I agree with you.....That was good, Candyce! I guess I'm doing my retirement graduate work at the U. of DG as well. LOL

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Best tuition I ever paid. I enrolled for another year just today!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
