TM, what wonderful oasis in the middle of all that cold and snow. I bet your neighbors are jealous. Thanks for the pics!

Great pics, ...you have a pond in the greenhouse? Hmmm....thinking...great for humidity...love it! (even if it's not in the green house..good idea)
I need to dmail you to ask some advice on some things.
Yes, the hanging baskets are those 3 tiered guys. I re-configure them into a double hanging basket, small single, medium single and large single hanging basket. And while they don't last forever, you could spray some scotch guard on them for them to last longer, or even paint them... but for a buck a piece, they are a Gardeners bargain friend.

Cathy- those are Zinghas or some people know them as Foo Dogs..I got them in Chiang Mai Thailand.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Rj, there's always room for one more thing in the greenhouse, right?! A pond would a perfect addition. I like those Zinghas, they are neat looking.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

oh yes...and it would do wonders for the humidity in there not to mention keeping my pond plants replenished. I usually do keep spare pond plants in my rain barrell during the spring and summer. I've been using 2 house humidifiers in the GH...they work admirably well, but still on the cold nights I increase the humidity by fine mist hose pointed into a bucket..and the mist just flies out.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Here I sit...dripping onto my chair, swirling around in the same humidity that causes plants to grow in my second story window sill...and you guys manufacture humidity!

Carol, did you read this??? Well, we all have our crosses to bear! Chrissy??? Can you believe it?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Rj,yes the pond is in the center greenhouse which is about 34ft long and 16ft wide, really helps keep the spidermites at bay also.
Yep I'm getting me some of those baskets,I have several orchids that I want to hang up,and those will work great!!!

Cathy neighbors think I'm crazy!!!LOL

Shari,if you swirl around and around, won't that make you a lot cooler!!!LOL

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Shari, I used to complain all the time about the humidity. Now, I am so accustomed to it that when it drops below 75%, my skin turns into alligator hide. I am like a walking humidity tester!
TM, I know the feeling about the neighbors giving you "the look" that says "Oh geesh, what is she up to now?" I figure it keeps them all guessing... Seems like we're always bring home a "treasure" on trash day that someone else was ready to give up and we are adding it to our collection! On Thanksgiving night we found two cool ladderback caned chairs that went right into the yard. If we can't sit in them, they can always be used as plant stands!

Wow Cathy, you could probably sell that on ebay as an antique!! LOL!!! I would have grabbed them too, and I don't EVEN need any more chairs around here!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Love, love, love how much we are all alike. I can't pass up anything that might be converted into something even better. Really like the chairs. It is cold and rainy here today and the heater is going full blast. Shari, you will just die. We leave a tea kettle going on the stove to put out enough humidity to keep us from baking...and that is with the thermostat never above 68. Do not like it hot. The atmosphere gets so dry even my 2" hair waves around from the static. Everybody rest today and catch up from our frantic good time we just had. And wasn't it great!

Late as usual, but wanted to comment on the beautiful greenhouse shots - really lovely! Keep 'em coming, I just love to see pictures of other peoples gardens (and greenhouses!) Having the fish pond in the gh just makes it all the more magical, never mind its practicality!
Also enjoying the sharing of ideas between you guys and how you gain more space etc, really interesting.
Sorry to hear you have no nose hairs left TM, and by the way it's a good thing you don't have Koi in your pond anymore, those little devils will dig up and destroy all the water plants unless you put up some sort of barrier to stop them "digging". Your grandson must be very proud of his catfish, I bet it's the first thing he checks out when he comes to visit! What the heck do you feed a catfish?

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Morning Christi! LOL on the static and your hair!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Good Morning, Jennie. So excited that I just had to check the airlines again this morning just to be sure I still have a ticket. hahaha. Took my IZ book to my brother's, Shari. He is a professional musician and had not heard of him. We have another convert. Bet if we could somehow afford travel for everyone, Dave's Garden Party would be overrun in Hawaii. Time to resume my study of the Islands. Oh what joy.

Christie, what a cutie she is! Your static story gave me a laugh too!
Marcy, Yeah, we probably need 2 more chairs like a hole in the head, but there's always room for one more thing in the garden, right?!
TM, I'm curious about the catfish too, did your grandson name it?
Jenny thanks for the info on the koi, we were thinking to maybe put one or two in our pond, but I guess we'll just stick to goldfish!

What a sweet picture of Erin in her little house, looks like you had a wonderful Christmas day!
We went to the beach very early Christmas morning for a swim before I had to get back to put the turkey in the oven... this is Dustin, my grandson on the beach Christmas morning - he would be very embarrased if he knew I was posting this....

very handsome young man.

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Very common with our weather here to keep koi in the garden ponds, but I have noticed very few of the ponds attempt to keep plants too. I understand that if you put rocks on top of the soil in your planters you will be okay as far as keeping them from digging - or perhaps keeping them very well fed - LOL! I have shubkin in one of my little ponds, and guppies in the other. Not as exciting or colorful as keeping koi but I enjoy seeing the new babies.
My son has dug out a new pond for me which will be this springs project - its just a hole in the ground now - commonly called my grave. I have to have a large portion of the garden dug up to put in a seperate septic system in for the cottage per EPA new rules, and I am hoping that we will get some large boulders of blue rock from that excavation to make some sort of waterfall in my grave. You wouldn't believe how beautiful it is going to be in my mind!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

No name as far as I know,he was here yesterday with our first great grand son,he informed me that was 7 years ago when he put the catfish in the pond,I feed him koi food,he eats it right down, being that its dried shrimp!!!
When he croaks ,koi will go back in,or maybe get rid of the pond and put a hot tub in!!!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

We have tried so hard to keep fish in our pond...they last for a couple of days and the Night Heron arrives: ARGHK!!! The little fish disappear and the big fish are pecked to death!!! No plants for them to hide under!!! I have a serious investment in BTI!!!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

Cattle egrets are often around my pond, but they get chased off by the dogs. I don't know if they would try to eat the fish but I am deeply suspicious of them - they are so bad on the geckos. I feel your pain, Carol!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Roast heron,how does that taste!!!LOL

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

LOL on the roast heron! We have great blue heron here that eat the fish out of the ponds. Those and the raccoons.
Yeah, Don! Get a hot tub! That would be great for your arthritis! I just got one this past fall, and I am trying to figure out how I can build a greenhouse around it!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Probably much like seagull. hahaha

So far, so good on my little koi. They are now about 6". I have totally wrapped the pond and the tropicals in it with a green fabric that I purchased at HD just for that purpose. The koi, of course, are hiding and pretty much dormant. The plants have surprised me and are still growing even though we have had several nights of hard freeze. Always warms up in the daytime so guess the sun is keeping everybody warm. Really looks dreary today. Even the cardinals haven't shown at the feeder.

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Add roasted racoon to the BBQ too, I could've just shot them with a flamethrower when they tore up my waterlilies and ate the goldfish. Buggers! We had 2 large goldfish left, they lasted for a while, but I think a heron finally got them too. Had a suggestion somewhere here on DG for a statue of some sort, maybe a heron or an alligator to keep them away. We'll wait till spring to get any more fish.

TM, I can't believe that catfish is 7 years old. I'm surprised he hasn't been breaded and fried!

Jenny, I can see those big blue boulders too! We'll be waiting for a picture...

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Kind of like eating your cat or dog by now...

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

LOL Cathy.I work with an Sennicole Indian, and he loves to fish and noodle,so I told him to come catch the catfish and he could have him,he's big now,and would probably taste good, all the shrimp I feed him!!!
Well he came over got in the pond, and tried for about a hour to catch that fish,I laughed my butt off watching him,but he never caught him, grabbed him a couple times but each time he got away!!!
So it's a waiting game for now!

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

That's one smart fish! He's probably got every spec of that pond memorized! He may last a while, living in that tropical jungle garden!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Well I saw a show the other day, catfish can live 40 yrs!!!!
And can get to 600lbs!!!!!
So I might have to set a trout line up!!!LOL

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Cathy, that's funny...I have chair plant stands all over the deck.
I think I'm definately going to look into doing a pond in the green house...albeit a small pond..
That one of yours sounds cool...more pictures! how deep ? I have a spare aquarium..that will probably be enough for my greenhouse!

Fortuneately Shari, we don't have to manufacture humidity more than 3 or 4 months out of the year.

I had the same problem with my pond ..fish would disappear overnight.. Finally I put in a decorative shop light, that hung upside down over the pond...never had a problem since. It's just figuring out how to get the light over the pond! Creativeness prevails!

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Rj, here's shot of the pond. You can see the flagstone style flat rocks I laid around the edges in this pic. I've put more rocks around the pond, but haven't glued them in yet. The pond is one of those hard plastic preformred jobbies that is pretty darn sturdy.
We originally had a hole dug with a pond liner, but the dang racoons punctured the liner while fishing. They occasionally pass through the yard, but they had a harder time getting the fish in this one. No fish in there right now.
It's about 2 feet deep in the middle, with several spots along the sides being only 1 foot deep, kind of shelves. There's a little fountain thing in the center that's on a timer.

Hey everybody! Erin is adorable as always, Christi! Jenny - isn't it fun embarrasing them?

Oh I love the chairs!

I've had some success with squirrels and raccoons by getting a couple of those owl statues with the moving heads...kept them out of my bulbs, but I don't know if it would work near a pond. That probably more tempting than mere bulbs. Randy - doesn't the lite irritate the fish? No dark?

Cathy - such a pretty pond!!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Always feel I am showing Erin to her aunts and uncles.

Shari, you are talking about raccoons and such in the states and not Kwaj? Right?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Rj,its only a foot deep,6x8 ft overall,I hang my orchid cactus over the pond,so I don't water them much during the winter, but the leaves don't dry up for the humidity coming from the pond, thats what I thought I'd with the orchids too!
So need to get some of those baskets!!!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Definately the states! Back in Colorado! Ha Ha...no squirrels nor raccoons here on Kwaj! Ha ha,, that's a funny thought...I should have clarified. Nope all we have here are the occasional rat, and coconut crabs!

Don, I also use the baskets for my orchids...work great!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

So..that particular pond is in the green house then?
I ask, because I happen to have one in the back of the garage that I pulled out of the old pond area when I re-built it with lining. It probably needs some patching...but it's just stored for that day I knew I'd use it for something!
