Happy Perihelion everyone!! Before you say, 'Huh?!', it's the day when the earth is closet to the sun in its orbit. Doesn't that just positively warm you over on this cold day?!

Obviously it has no effect on our temps and is close to winter solstice by coincidence - in just 21,000 years it will occur near summer solstice, if you're keeping track at home. The opposite - called aphelion, when earth is furthest from the sun, will occur on July 4th this year. The difference between furthest and nearest is not that great since the orbit is fairly circular.

Maybe...just maybe...in 21,000 years I'll get an operating bay window in here. We're now waiting for the Anderson representative (head guy) to come over and see the problem.

The seasons are due to the tilt. Does the Nile flow uphill or just north?

Actually the river near me - Fox River - flows north, downhill too.
