No. I haven't seen the movie. I'm not sure if I want to see it. I love the 'look' of the original little dog, even though the movie one is truly cute.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - 27
I was an Underdog fan too - haven't seen the movie. Also liked Courageous Cat, Casper, Magilla Gorilla...
I had the hots for Mighty Mouse.
One of the first really good presents I got DH was the (allegedly complete) Rocky & Bullwinkle Comedy Hour on DVD. He loved it and now my kids are educated too. x,c
Interesting Harper.
Keep your thoughts to yourself Victor!
does anyone else remember Isis? It was a live action saturday morning show about an archeologist who could become the goddess Isis with a mystic amulet?
i LOVED that show!
edited to say: wow, i guess there are other people out there with fond childhood memories of what looks to be a really cheesy show too: http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/isis/home.html

Two days to go until Christmas. I am still wrapping and stashing. My bedroom looks like the North Pole, NE Region!!!
It's been a great year of creating most of the presents instead of buying them. I think I'll do it NEXT year, too. But, I'll start a whole lot earlier! These last few weeks have been very hectic.
I remember my sister watching that, Amy. Candyce, I know how you feel. I am usually way more organized and ahead of the game, but this year has been terrible. I still have a few things for the kids scheduled to arrive tomorrow! (and of course they're home). Lots more to wrap. Still have to finish cleaning as well. We're hosting.
Amy - I recall that name, didn't watch it though. More of Superfriends or Laffalympics guy.
I just ran out to get one last minute gift for my son's girlfriend, then today I hope to wrap and clean.
And tomorrow, just relax, or finish what I didn't get to today.
Amy, I remember Isis!! She ranked up there with the Bionic Woman and Wonder Woman for me. I think I had crushes on all of them.
Hmm - well, me too! And Jeannie, Samantha, Catwoman, MaryAnn, Jaclyn Smith, etc.........
You liked MaryAnn?
I did. Thought Ginger was too glitzy (a comparison would have been welcome though).
Victor...and all this time I thought you were so enamored of Ethel Mertz !
I personally had a crush on Ellie Mae Clampett....but then Farrah came along....
Remember the stir that poster created? Wasn't even a bikini. So tame by today's standards yet I remember people being angry when it was put up on store windows.
Boy...isn't that the truth. I have an old Wella Balsam Shampoo poster with her on it.
I snagged it from a grocery I worked at in the 70's. It's a little rough around the edges, but still in good condition. It's hanging in my garage.
Who was on the poster? Ellie Mae Clampett? I liked Jaclyn Smith's Breck commercials. "You know what most shampoos are? Detergent." Duh.
But I liked Ginger too - who else was PG and was sexy? Not Barbie. Nothing I was allowed to watch. The actress's name was Tina Louise - always remembered that. I named DD#! Louise as a middle name after her! Well not really - I dredged up some long lost relative on her father's side named Louise so officially she's named after that relative. But in my heart of hearts I know, she's named after Tina Louise. Thing was, when I watched Gilligan's Island as a kid, I didn't know Ginger was supposed to be ludicrous and over-the-top, well, except for the laugh track. That should have been a giveaway, I guess.

edited because darn, I hate it when I forget to take out the bold thingie!

LOL carrie...NO, Ellie Mae wasn't on the Wella Balsam poster...it was Farrah Fawcett.
You mean Ellie May wasn't posing scantily clad out by the C-Ment pond ;)
Nope...sorry Al...but I think she was the centerfold for Field and Stream in 1964...no wait...that was Phyliis Diller. Yeah...she was wearing the peek-a boo blouse that Fang bought her: First he peeked, then he booed.
Booooooo.
Phyllis Diller was actually funny, compared to Lucille Ball or Joan Rivers who never made me laugh.
Oh come on, "Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do?" And how about Mary Tyler Moore, before the last three face-lifts. I guess she wasn't so funny; she was more of a Mary Ann than a Ginger. Too bad we have to choose. x, C
I never loved Lucy. I hated how cheap she was. Fred and Ethel Mertz were supposed to be her best friends, but she was always trying to think of ways to avoid paying the rent she and Ricky owed them.
I was never crazy about Lucy either. Overrated. Carol Burnett was funny.
Why didn't Ricky just let her do a number at the club? What could it have hurt? Geez, what a maroon!
Martha
I guess, even at that tender age, I was a sucker for a Cuban accent. I liked Ricky. x, C
They (Lucy & ricky) invented the sitcom and several filming techniques. I think they were brilliant for their time. But its dated.
No doubt about their tv pioneering credit. The show, and Lucy in particular, just wasn't very funny. Her later solo shows stunk.
I must be totally wierd because I didn't like (and still don't) most of the shows people rave about. I think because I grew up in such a sexist household, I am particularly sensitive to oppression of women. I hated Bewitched because Samantha was expected to deny her true self to appease her husband, I hated Beverly Hillbillies because the only character with an ounce of brains was female - that they had to make look like a horse (poor Miss Jane!). (Ever notice how often beautful women with brains are characterized as "the enemy?") I hated "I Dream of Jeannie" because she was expected to "obey" her "master."
For girls who grew up in more enlightened households, these were probably pretty funny shows. For me, they simply reinforced old stereotypes my family was only too have to indulge in.
It was soooo bad, I left home when I was 16 and worked my way through highschool. Takes a very long time to develop a sense of self, if you are taught you exist merely to serve others (e.g. men and children).
Of course, similar stereotypes of men exist in the media. Too often men are portrayed as idiots or slashers.
No, they were sexist. Sad thing is , our society was so sexist we didn't notice. These days the men tend to be the idiots but they still have more control of their lives. Some old movies & shows are unwatchable for it but I can still watch Dick Van Dyke Show, F Troop, The Adams Family, Get Smart. Those were my favorites.
My mom used to tell my dad: " I married you for better or for worse. But NOT for lunch. That wasn't in the contract " !
When the "Women's Lib." movement hit, she was only partly for it. While other women were burning their bra's, she only burned one cup. It was a feeble attempt at compromise. LOL
funny
Easier to take it off first I've heard - a lot of senseless burns occurred.
wow - when i was a kid i HATED my naturally curly hair - it just wouldn't "feather" like Farrah's (and all the cool girls at my grade school.) i heard that women in the 60s used to iron their hair to make it straight. i DIDN"T hear that they put a towel over it 1st.
fortunately i stopped before much damage was done!
OMG - the smell of scorched hair!
Once you look past the overt sexist roles, many shows actually had the men looking stupid and the women were the ones who came out looking better and smarter and in the ones in real control.
Dick Van Dyke was one of the best shows ever. Incredibly good writing and two very strong women. It was, and still is, very funny.
2 very strong women? ?? Oh, Mary Tyler Moore and Rose Marie? Yeah but MTM slept in twin bed and NEVER had sex with Rob and once dyed her hair blond because she thought he would prefer a blond wife. Rose Marie wasn't allowed to be attractive either, she was too loud, too straightforward, and too desperate. Maury Amsterdam was pretty funny.
