I am very sorry that you have such blighted views of Kentuckians. We have problems just as any other state, of course. I cannot change your impressions, I'm sure, but I can leave you with this bit of knowledge, if not understanding. I was born and raised in Kentucky. I have 3 graduate degrees, one from Kentucky, and two from out of state universities. Yes, I taught art and humanities, but I also have degrees in French, Ancient History and English. I can teach them too, and have on occasion. My son and daughter graduated from Ky high schools. My son received scholarships and graduated with a degree in chemistry from Purdue and a law degree from Indiana University. My daughter also had academic scholarships. She has a KY university degree in chemistry and a Florida degree in marine biology. She lives and works in Florida and my son practices law in Chicago.
One thing we all were taught is to never deliberately hurt or make fun of others.
Y'all have a good evening.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - 27
Did I miss something about Anthol - what is this anyway?
I humbly apologize again. . . . sigh. Carrie, this time I am blaming you!
Pretty Low. As an alumnus of the University of Kentucky I register an objection. Not only are there books in Kentucky there are some of the best educational institutions in the world.
And the same goes for the state of Alabama.
I am not a Southerner by birth, but for anyone to get slammed for being one is not only not politically correct it is just poor manners.
There is no excuse!

I have edited my part . . . I didn't mean to offend any one. Sorry sorry sorry.
Seandor - it's nice to see your apology.
Another apology seems to be missing here, Carrie.
Sharon and Gloria: I once read a definition of "class" and, in part, it said that class never has to lower another person to try to raise themselves. On the part of 99% of the NE forum I apologize for the one who won't.
I would like to apologize along with Pirl, I don't like seeing a NE thread turn ugly, and this did change my mood tonight.
Same here.
here, too.
sigh . . . shall I find a bridge and jump?
No, Seandor. You did the right thing.
We're all still waiting for someone else to offer her apologies to Sharon and Gloria.
Sharran and Gloria, please don't go away because of this. You know that nothing mean was meant by it. We're always teasing and "ranking" on one another, but in a loving and fun way. If someone said something bad about Bay Staters (MA) well, they'd probably be right! We always get chastised about our bad drivers, for instance. Of course I'm the type that would just wait and try to think of a good come back!
I think this is called "Waiting for Gudot".
Thanks, Pirl. Thanks all in the N.E. Forum minus one.
gloria
Please, in fairness, perhaps Carrie has been called away for something important and doesn't realize that we have offended others. I don't think she intended to offend anyone.
I am sure once she is aware, she will apologize as well.

Unfortunately, I do think something mean was meant by it. I appreciate the thought though, Primrose Sue.

Thanks folks, your apologies accepted. And Pirl, I know you mean well but a forced apology is no better than none at all.
P.Sue, there is a bit of difference in teasing about bad drivers and teasing about intelligence levels, or lack thereof.
Can we go back to the subject of the thread now?? There is no point in staying on this subject. It is very well squashed.
Seandor. Thank you.
Now if we only had a real subject!
Go Chargers!
Go Jaguars!
Didn't some of us do that for Christmas?
We cross posted, Victor. I meant, didn't we go charging?

Saturday night's game (for the Steelers) was terrible. Not worth a bruised butt.
Way to go, Pirl, that's what I meant...back to the subject. (whatever it is)
Good one, Deb! But you know . . . my Patriots will really bruise everyone's butt!!! (I hope!)
Yeah, I'm actually rooting for the Pats.
Have to find me a Jags jersey.
I'm adding a same too, that was definitely uncalled for. I never thought the Northeast forum had it in any of them to be so insulting.
Kentucky is an absolutely beautiful state with lovely people in it, from my experience.
Not to find a bridge and jump anyone, but why would you say something like that in the first place?
Wow, while I was typing that there were a bunch of new messages up.
Victor, try eBay.
Good post, Polly.
eBay? I love eBay! I just bought a grain mill on eBay! Now - why did I do that? I wanted to buy a bay berry bush and a filbert tree and I bought a grain mill instead. Thank goodness I bid on the Dooney and Bourke purse - that makes sense.
Goodness gracious, I was merely watching a movie with DD#1 and then I come back to find that I am the ONLY member of the NE forum who refuses to issue an public apology? I may have been feeling a little tiny teensy weensy bit defensive about MY state, proud home of Belchertown and Athol. I believe anyone who said he or she was flipping through a book of town names would have gotten the exact same comment from me. Most of us here on the NE forum, no matter where we're NE of, can take a little joking back and forth.
That being said, I did not mean to offend anybody, hurt anybody's feelings, offend anybody's home state, imply that people from one state or country are more or less educated than people from another state or country, or any geographical region owns or reads more books than any other region than any other region. Please accept my humble albeit belated apology. (And the movie was definitely not worth it.)
Victor, is this the thread you said we were voting on? And did I just get voted off the NE forum?
???
I can't wait for Victor to respond!!!
Why Victor - is he the boss?
"Victor!!!!" Did I do it right? I feel like Ricky Ricardo "Luceeee!" I guess it's his thread. C
Why don't you ask those whose feeling you hurt, Carrie?
Carrie, you said in your next to last paragraph that you didn't mean to 'imply'.
Problem is you didn't 'imply'
And I quote:
"Wait, wait, you mean they still use books in Kentucky? (Ducking to avoid said books being thrown at her.) x, Carrie"
I'm very surprised at that kind of a statement on a public forum, and I think it would behoove you to think before you speak (or type).
I'm insulted by the apology, and it wasn't even directed towards me.

So am I, Polly. Her apology seems half-hearted and forced at best and without any depth.
OK, I am really messing things up tonight, now I have offended people in my apology. Nothing was meant in a mean-spirited way; I have deleted the offensive comment. I am truly sorry. I am going to bed; please do not interpret my absence as anything other than the fact that i have turned off my computer.
Gentle people, I believe that Carrie's apology is sincere, and gracious people should accept it as such - lest they be misunderstood and others take offence.
