KT has a birthday coming up sooooooon.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - 27
shhhhhhhh.
I promise I won't tell a soul. Nada. No way.
I haven't told a soul. And besides, they all promised to keep it a secret.
JD, I told you not to tell. See if I tell you any more secrets.
me and my big mouth...(sigh)
Oh my gosh!!
I love you guys. You always manage to make my day much brighter!!
(And, it makes no difference where you are from, either!!!!!)
1/11 sounds like one of those perfect birthdays, doesn't it?
It certainly does.
Ahhhhh, Pirl. You told too.
Morning all. I had mentioned the PA Dutch country had funny names but was reluctant to actually name them, but since Cat got that one out of the way...nearby are Bird in Hand, Paradise and Blue Ball.
KT - you're sure welcome any time!
Suburbs of that city in PA, of course.
Well a definite sequence is in order. If you suffer from one, and can't get another, which would qualify to some as one of the other two, then you are left with the final one, a kind of DIY!
I would not touch that with a 10 foot pole.
Surprised 10 Foot Pole is not a town there as well.
Just be patient. I am looking through my KY town book. You never know.
You're forcing me to say it. Victor!!!
Well, there is Beaver Dam and Mossy Bottom, Dwarf and Mousie, and Lick Creek and Bourbon County.
That's just a start. Should get your head a noddin'.
Oops! Being disciplined again.
I refrained from doing the same thing on another thread so I'm trying to be sweet and amiable but you do make it hard.
To be sweet and amiable??
Yes.
I guess I should have used the word difficult and not the word I did use.
I've seen things in the paper here where people think San Diego is spelled "Sandy Eggo".
They pulled that flavor rather quickly I believe.
i know there is a Bullet County in KY also - from a friend of mine who lived in Louisville, it was an appropriate name, too...
Yep, but it is spelled Bullit County, and the main town in that county is Shepherdsville. Might be the county seat, can't remember. There is also a Bath County and a Barren County.
I was wondering if Bourbon County was near Bullit County...
Barren County is down by Mammoth Cave & Cave City - it's where the Floyd Collins tragedy happened back in the 1920s. I have been there several times...
Bullit County is west of Louisville while Bourbon County is nearer Lexington. So maybe about 90 miles between the two. And you are right about Barren County and Floyd Collins.
Now, just for your enjoyment, we also have:
Tyewhoppety, Whoopflarea, Wax, Pinchem, and Eighty Eight. (to name a few).
OK, this is taxing my brain...no more KY history or geography for this day. Back to you, guys.
every time we drive back down 95 (from New London or wherever), i am amused by the exit for Goose Lane.
Heading down towards NYC there is the Honeyspot Motor Lodge, which definitely sounds like a place of ill repute.
My favorite highway sign is the one on 91 outside of Hartford:
State Veterans Home
Dinosaur State Park
closed Mondays.
Now that is just mean.
We have "Humptulips" here in WA, along with lots of fun Native Indian names like my all-time fave from childhood fishing days:
the Skookumchuck River.
There is a "Weed CA" & "Weed Heights NV", the latter being for the more upper crust of that persuasion.
I had to google for some of those previously mentioned, and was surprised to see that there really is an Assawoman Bay in MD.
Whatever were they thinking?
More innocent times in those days or ???......
hahahah I am marking students' papers and I just had to share this with you. The student is writing about the insurgents in Iraq:
"and even use there god as an escape goat for actions"
Can you imagine? I have this crazy image of mad terrorists bolting on the backs of goats, making their escape, and all the goats are assumed to be manifestations of god. fotflmao!

there is an Assuntuck CT, or at least a college, which i have seen signs for...

hahahaha Michaela!
My DH teaches stagecraft and lighting - my favorite answer was on a quiz about identifying tools. There was a picture of a claw hammer and of a ball peen hammer.
One person identified them as:
a. claw hammer
b. a different kind of hammer
But the best was:
a. claw hammer
b. ball point hammer
(i wonder if it was retractable..?)
Amythest - are you sure such people should be allowed to actually touch hammers?

Best hotel name in Fairfield County, CT is - - - Hi-Ho - you can see it off the Merritt Parkway about black Rock Turnpike.
Why would you be so nasty as to say that, Carrie? And Seandor, shame on you for agreeing.
I'm sorry. I apologize for my uncouth behaviour.
Fifty lashes with a wet noodle for me . . . pirl, you are right to correct me.
deeply humbled,
Seandor

(I was egged on by Michaela. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)
Carrie, my pure and innocent mind will never be the same again! I honestly never thought of Athol that way - actually, it reminds me of menthol . . .
Great ramblings and "insult"ory humor this weekend, everyone!
