Supermarket Bulbs?

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I bought the hardy kiwi as a pair ... they have not bloomed yet so I don't know how to tell them apart yet. 1 male can handle up to 8 female plants!!! Garlic I love it.....
bring it on....:~) Seasons Greetings and Happy Holidays!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

The experiment has begun! I got all of them planted yesterday, so now I am crossing my fingers that they will actually do something!
Merry Christmas Everyone!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Good Luck with your grocery garden!!
Misty I have my fingers crossed. :*)
Happy Holidays Everyone!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I looked in my pantry in preparation for Christmas and guess what I found: green shoots about a foot long coming from an onion I had "planted" in a crock! I was shocked! Guess that tells you how often I cook! :-)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks, kimarj! Hopefully I will get lucky like Connie and they will all just sprout away! I will be planting some onions, probably tomorrow after we eat! LOL

Misty~ did some growing activities with the pumpkins today! Came across growing pomegrantes!! You cut the pomegrante in half, remove some of the seeds, rub the seeds with newspaper to remove all the flesh. Then plant the seeds 1/2 inch below the surface in dampened potting mix. Cover the pot with a gallon size baggie. Place in a warm, bright spot and the seeds should geminate in 5-7 weeks. Be sure to keep the mix damp, not wet. After germination, remove the baggie. The instructions state you will need to repot into larger containers several times before they produce fruit. Fertilize with tomato fertilizer regularly during the growing season. Ok... I'll let you all know if we have fruit in several years! LOL!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL g6! You be sure to let me know when you get fruit! HA HA HA

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Ok, you guys, I am gonna have to quit hanging out in this thread. I got to try the pomegrantes! And buy more kiwi's, DH ate them all up, sigh. What am I gonna do with this man, he thinks fruit is for eating? LOL

A Happy and Blessed New Year 2008 to all my friends.

As ever,
Cathy aka doccat5

Happy New Year 2008 to all!

Misty~ I'll make sure I'll send you a pomegrante..it probably won't taste like a pomegrante. My pumpkins might all be in high school by then, LOL!

Cathy~ just make sure you GET the seeds before he starts eating the fruit!! Better yet, let him remove the flesh from the pomegrante seeds for you. A nice juicy, red mess even with newspaper. Unless you're a pumpkin who thinks it's absolutely heaven to squish and pop the seeds with glee! ;0)

edited for goofy sentence! ;0)

Edited to say this is them at MID summer...by the end they were twice as big!! I clicked on the wrong pic!

WOW Connie, those are gorgeous! I would love to find something like that to have around here! Here I was just heading off to bed and decided to check one more time, not I got something else to dream of having! LOL

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

The purple basil is beautiful but it's kinda tough. I used the green basil to make my homemade pesto...

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Those are gorgeous. I'm planning a purple themed area and those would be perfect! Thanks for the lovely pic.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Ok, I must have some of that looking at it again after some sleep! LOL

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Connie I went to Lowe's yesterday and guess what I found! LOL

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow....too cool! How many did you get? Will you overwinter them or plant now?

You will be amazed at how huge they get! I'll post a pic when I find the one of them "full grown."

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I only bought one pack, but thinking I MUST have more! Doesn't seem to be many in there, so best to have more seeds, right?! LOL For some reason, I took it from the package that they were Winter plants, but then learned differently. I think I am gonna try to go ahead and start them then move to the green house once they are big enough for a decent size pot. Any suggestions on how to go about it? I love big plants, so I am sure to really love these! Lowe's has all kinds of seeds in now, so you might wanna take a look! LOL

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ohhh...you're up!

And ohhh...you have a GREENHOUSE! I'm so envious!! :-)

I"m going to search right now for that pic of the plants full grown....

Do you always stay up late? I don't on school nights (teach 9th grade English) but definitely in the summer!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh I shouldn't be, but I so enjoy the peace and quiet when everyone else is sleeping!!!
I actually have two at the moment, but they will be joined in the Spring to make one large one. :) Well, there will still be the wall separating them since one will be for Winter and the other for Spring and Summer! :) Then DH says he will build me a large one behind the garage.wood shop area!
I am usually up at least til Midnight, but the holidays have just ruined me and haven't been here lately.
Oh a teacher, I hated school sorry to say. :(

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, I can't take it anymore as it is almost 2am, but I hope you find your pic and get it posted! Nighty Night :)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Here is the pic.... was watching a movie...not sleepy due to taking allergy meds!

I just read your message...sorry I didn't find this sooner! Aren't they huge?? I love them for the ornamental quality....as I said...to cook with them isn't good as they are tough compared to the green variety

Sorry you didn't like school...some people don't! You probably were not ready for it, or were too intelligent for it, or your teachers were boring! :-)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Connie that is absolutely gorgeous!!! Do you have some way to get to each layer, or do you have to crawl around?

Allergy meds make me sleepy, which is why I try to not take them any more than I have to, even though I suffer miserably!

Terrible to tell a teacher I didn't like school, huh?! LOL
I would like to think that I was too intelligent for school, but I think it was more like boring teachers! LOL And English was NOT one of my best classes. But, spelling is one thing I am very good at. :)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I have to place a lawn chair up to the first level...then climb to the other levels. BUT as soon as my spa/ pool/ deck is finished (all except the deck state are done!) I'm going to hit my DH again with a request....steps at the far side to reach all levels. At 56, I can probably do the goat thing a few more years, but I'm getting arthritis in my hands and the other limbs will probably follow if I'm like my mom and g'mom!

The levels are actually wider than they look! The top one is about 4 feet wide, although it just looks like a ribbon of space.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well I think it is gorgeous! I am only 37 and have problems getting around, so a walk way would be in order for me to get to all the levels! LOL I wish I had anything near what you have there. Maybe one day! :)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Misty! I am very fortunate that I have many, many beautiful areas in which to garden. And I know many people have to work with a FLAT lawn, (hey, I've been there with Many of my homes through the years!) so I'm at an advantage with all the stone and different levels on my hillside lot.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

You are very welcome! I read that they are one of the 'true' mosquito deterrents, is that the case, or have you noticed any difference?
