Long ride in..blowing snow..Hwy 400 had accidents and lane closures..although we left the house at 6:45 we still got in at 9:10am..thanks goodness boss drives through same...
We did stop at Home Depot - Second Cup for hot chocolate so thought it would be an opportune time to pick up burlap..Suzanne got my chocolate so I quickly ran into the store..had to be about 10 attendants walking around, some gabbing, asked about 4 times where I could find burlap..all pointed to a direction, non of which were the correct location, so finally I just left..no time to go around all the aisles...Suzanne was having hard time with everything this morning so thought I'd wait till lunch before asking her to take me..am sure she will...
Carol, you snug in the house on this cold day? Glad you got more shopping done..actually I sat and did my chequing acct. this morning..did my Christmas list budget and am on target..Sat/Sun I'll finish it all...
Best/Worse/??learnt today...Pt23 A visit with friends...
betty, that was classic!lol i was laughing so hard the dogs came in to see what all the comotion was about...
that has to be one of my biggest grip's at hd tons of workers and pointing to isles where to find things
Sister sent me the following..thought you'd enjoy....
MY LIVING WILL
Last night, my friend and I were sitting in the living room and I said to her, 'I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some
machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug. She got up, unplugged the computer, and threw out my wine.
Also....
Handle every day like a dog.
If you cant sniff it,chew it or eat it,
Then pee on it and walk away.
Bety,
At least in the HD I work in, rolls of burlap are located in outside garden.
Some may have it in the inside Garden area--but it IS in Garden!
Gita
Hi Gita..thanks, they did tell me it was in seasonal .. walked the aisles and couldn't find it..I think it's our HD..I was in to get 2 bags of cement not long ago, it was on a wooden crate slab, saw an employee and asked if he'd mind helping me take down a bag, he reminded me that HD is self serve..told him I usually get things myself but large bags of cement, I'd end up dropping them..he then proceeded to give me 2 bags which were sitting on the floor which had 4" cuts in them with cement falling out..explained I just bought new car and didn't want cement all over it..anyway, just as we were coming out of the construction dept. a news bulletin came on loud speaker announcing that if anyone couldn't find what they were looking for or was in a place that was unreachable please contact an employee...he was standing next to me so I politely said, "perhaps your announcer isn't aware of self service in this store"..so, I left without the cement...everyone has been complaining about that particular store...as Liz will attest...HD is my favorite all time store..I should be a salesperson .. especially in the tool dept. lol..only problem with that, is that I'd never get a paycheck..would always be broke..too many tools to buy..lol
Betty,
Don't count your chickens too soon! You DON"T want to work there--at least not at this time!!! HD is gasping for survival right now--in ALL the people's opinions that work there, shop there, have worked there and have shopped there--but no longer do. They have been cutting hours so bad, that most PT'ers have NO hours at all any more. Me included. I have no hours this week--no hours next week, and I don't expect that I will have any hours around X-Mas. Having a long, unexpected "vacation"...It is OK--but I am worried. December is usually a "money month" with all the gifts being purchased and all the X-Mas trees and lights and stuff. January and February are the totally "dead" months.
IF they are cutting hours to this extent NOW--will any of us even have jobs in Jan. and Feb.????
HD keeps cutting hours and asking people to volunteer to go home early and in the same breath, they expect you to give excellent customer service and walk every customer to the product. Morale is awful! The Holidays are here, and people are not getting any hours.
I am more fortunate, as I get alimony and also some SS every month. My house is long ago paid for and I lead a frugal life. I am OK--just have to watch my spending.
I feel sorry for the kids who count on their PTearnings to live.
As for the employee who was so rude to you, you need to report him. There is a "Customer Care" 800 number you can call and express your complaint. They will, in turn, call back to the store and talk to a manager. Then he/she can deal with the issue directly with the associate at fault. I hope you got the kids name! His behavior was unacceptable and totally against company policy.
BTW--the "promotional" overhead announcements come from Headquarters in Atlanta Georgia. So does the music, when the heat gets turned off or on, etc. They are the ones that decide on everything....
I know for a fact, that more and more people are shopping at "Lowes" because of all this.
Here is the Customer care Number: 1-800-553-3199
DO IT!!!! These idiots have to learn some consequences!
It has been my observation, though that as management goes--so goes the store's employees. Sad, but true! People tend to live up to what is expected of them....
Gita
Thank you Gita for your post..believe it or not, it was not a young lad but probably a gentleman looking to supplement his retirement income..
So far I prefer HD to Rona ..have heard some talk that Lowes is coming in our area..not sure if I've shopped much at a Lowes in USA..will have to do so when I'm there in the next few weeks..better save my $$$$...
That's really too bad that they are cutting hours like that, especially at a time when people are depending on the extra income for Christmas...the Midland store (about 5 miles away from me) is called by most the catalogue store, because everytime one wants to purchase something they have to order it in..think there are 3 sizes of stores, probably Midland to smallest, Barrie - middle size and Toronto the largest...
Did you get much snow Gita??? See that it's sunshine, well not quite, but it's bright here...
Just called Michaels and they have my wreaths..oh happy days..I have absolutely NO IDEA how I get myself into some of these jams...do you?
My wish would be this year that all my DG friends could live along I-75 so I could visit and have a coffee with each one of them...
Betty,
We got about 3"-4" of snow. I just finished shoveling,,,,,
It is nasty cold, though. About 28 degrees right now. The sun is out brightly shining. Will melt some of the ice.
My house faces North, so I don't get much sun to melt the ice on my front walkway. I salted it.
Betty, I don't know how you do it either. Besides all your craft work, you are on a zillion Threads posting all over the place. Reading! Replying! You must be a whiz at typing--and nothing is mis spelled...I use 4 fingers total to type. ONE on my left hand and 3 on my right.
I think if anything really serious happens to you (I hope not!), and you have to be inactive to recover--you will go bonkers...Into a major depression.....You will be very, very nervous...
Here's a HUGE question for you:
WHAT IS IT YOU GET OUT OF ALL THIS CRAFTS 24/7? ALL THE TEACHING, ALL THE MAILING TO EVERYONE, ALL THE CUTTING AND SAWING????? AND WORKING YET, AND DRIVING 200MILES BACK AND FORTH TO WORK! THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOURS IN A DAY TO FIT ALL THAT IN! I think you are a magician......a Sorceress......I think you know how to make time stand still......I bet you can make the clock run backwards? Hmmm...Maybe you keep about 6 elves in the closet of your Craft Room??? They come out while you sleep and finish all your projectss. Then you feed them.....and ONLY then!
Enough of all the sillies! .......Gita
Gita you put a smile on my face from ear to ear...
1st. I have many hobbies that keep me active..during Nov.Dec. of course it's Christmas crafts and workshops..because of my getting home so late in the evenings it affords me the opportunity to be with friends, spend an entire day laughing, joking and catching up on the news...one workshop is with family, the second with friends and the one tomorrow with all the girls I paint with...
As for my teaching painting, as Recreation Co-ordinator for over 20 years I was also involved in taking on programs, working with seniors was my favorite, so when I retired they wanted to continue and I didn't have the heart to say no, thus, my girlfriend Darlene whom I taught my type of teaching took it over and I decided to do Wedn. nights for much of the same reasons..great people, love the bantering between all...
I enjoy Suzanne's (SIL) humour, I drive to her house (90% of the time) and we travel to the city together, so, we talk about our evening and/or weekend, before you know it we're in Barrie..stop for coffee or something to eat and it breaks up the ride in, by the time we get back on the road, another hour and we're at work..goes by quite quickly except of course for the storm days...
You must also remember that I probably have the cushiest job in the world..Paul my BIL called a few years ago and asked if I'd help out for a few months until he found someone, well, I am very sympathetic or empathetic with those calling who have so much trauma in their lives, I'm willing to sit sometimes for 1 hr. listening to their woe's..affirming that we can help them out, put them on a route of healing both emotionally and financially..many would have lost their homes had we not been able to provide them with solutions..so, it gives me great satisfaction to know we help those in need...so it affords me hour upon hour to play on computer...thus my visit with you all...
I guess my scheduling my time to the max is from my schedule at work..had to be organized, had to be able to think 30 things at once, be seasons ahead in scheduling..always worked 2 jobs, raised a family on my own as DH worked on the road so guess old habits die hard...
Friends who know my family cannot believe our body make-up, sitting in a room is impossible, we're all doing something all the time, high energy people..I find I function the best early mornings 4:00 - 7:00..I accomplish much, in the evenings unless I've something scheduled it's early to bed...
Unlike many on DG and other groups I belong to MSN Groups I live on my own, dislike cooking, restaurant a few doors down so no cooking and no mess to clean...I have a morning routine, within 1/2 hr. of getting up my days work/cleaning is completely done..my DH used to say if he got up for a pee he could be guaranteed that the bed would be made and dishes and food would be cleared before he could finish eating...I play games with myself..usually the last day of everymonth I walk through the house with pen and paper, mark every little thing I see that needs to be done then I sit and if it is a large task I break it down into components, cut the tasks in strips, put it in a jar and each day I get to pick one and MUST do that task..no cheating..I KNOW, I KNOW ...GET A LIFE..RIGHT??? but it makes cleaning a game and fun...
I have so many wonderful friends, all who seem to have taken me under their wing..for example, it would take me 3 or 4 loads in my little car to bring all the materials to the center tomorrow...got a call this morning and Diane offered to come early tomorrow and take it all over for me..so elf #1, Darlene called, knowing I have no keys to my house (don't tell anyone please) as I replaced all the doors this summer while renovating AND don't know where I put them, anyway, her hubby wants a key so he can come and put new lighting and put the electric fireplace insert in, so yes, another elf...June was over to let Sailor out and pet the cats..another elf..so I am truly blessed...
It would be nothing for me to be in contact with hundreds of people during the week as Recreation Co Ordinator either through events, programs or meetings so I guess my being online here with all of you affords me the same satisfaction..I've been on many threads, some of which you try to participate in and get absolutely no reply or comment, or the complete opposite, you become part of and also invite others into your life via for example this thread...I've met wonderful caring people whom I've grown very fond of on this thread..they are very much part of my family...Gillian and her family visited me for a weekend and it brought such joy to me knowing that I'd get the same with each and every one of you...
So hope I answered some of your questions and comments..the why's are numerous but top on my list is I ENJOY PEOPLE!
And we love and enjoy knowing you, Ms. Betty........you light up our lives with your shenanigans!!!! (I love that word, have been looking for a place to use it!) Wow it is cold here...no snow, but 34 degrees of cloudy drives me nuts. I prefer snow if it is going to look so gloomy anyway!
Shar, I enjoy winter once it's here..it's when it snows one day, rains another, below 0 then in the high temps..looks like our snow is going to stay..just got home, thank goodness for Suzanne, took me shopping for all my supplies..yuk, took about an hour to spend another $300.00 on craft supplies..I'd better not add up what it cost me because I'm sure sometimes it's more than what they pay for supplies..lol...
So dear friends, I'm going to go and finish making the burlap sacs, make sure all my tools and wood and paint are together so that when Diane gets here in the morning I won't have to go searching..
I was hoping to make 2 glass block Christmas lights, bought beautiful ribbon but unless I get up supper early and do them I'll just have to deliver them some other time...
Best of the day...cabitsing (?) with Colin (lawyer), Darcy (financier)..they love to make old ladies laugh! that's what Colin says anyway...
Worse...worrying about getting everything I needed for tomorrow..
What did I learn..shouldn't worry, the plan always comes together
Do have a nice evening, put your feet up, get out a good book or tune in to a nice music station or t.v. channel and enjoy...
Betty..loved reading your posts..
I'm watching Grey's Anatomy...
evening all,
betty, loved the will story and did you wipe out michaels lol
going to bed early just tired as can be must be the weather been raining all day just gloomy out there everyone have a terrific evening liz
best: got all our work done at work just kicked back the rest of the day
worst: no worst
learned: cant say no, one of our customers asked if i would show her how to knit so she can make those wire beaded braceletts this sunday
Betty,
Thanks for your interesting, biographical response. Your life is, surely, FULL--even if it is tiring. I wish I could be like you--but on a smaller scale. I lack confidence--energy--and incentive.
I also love to "teach" people how to do things, but so far, all I have done towards that goalis to hold a monthly "Craft Corral" for the single/widowed/divorced group I have now belonged to for 15 years. It is amazing all the stuff we have done, though! I have a limit of 6 people, as that is all that will fit around my DR table. Usually, I am lucky to get about 4 people to sign up. It is sometimes hard to think of what I want to do, but I have to do so and let the Editor of our Newsletter know at least 2 months in advance so it can get included in the Newsletter.
I originally started this 2 years ago to attempt to get rid of some of my accumulated craft materials. DO I EVER HAVE PILES AND PILES OF THEM!!!!!! All organized, though, but I am a pack rat and a hoarder. I buy things and always know what i want to do with them, and then I end up stashing them and never get to using them
.
Well--every time I have a "Craft" class coming up, I end up having to buy half the materials anyway. Everyone pays me $5 and I provide all the supplies, refreshments, we sip on wine, chat, and at the end--I always take a picture of everyone holding up their finished project. Then I give them one of the copies to keep.
My goal, before I am "pushing up Daisies", is to use up some of the craft "stuff" I have accumulated and actually complete all these projects I have bought supplies for. What I make are all small thingies. Cute thingies! I have NEVER done anything on the scale that you do!!! Mine all would sell for under $5.
So far, I have made a load of Silk Rose angels--Paper twist ribbon angels--cloth pin Monks (want to explore doing other charactere--like Nuns, Angels, Pinochio, Wizzards, etc. out of cloth pins and felt). I have made beautiful silk "mini-rose" arrangements in tea cups. Christmas Potpouri jars with my own gathered and dried flowers in a Bell jar with a 20 string mini lights mixed in. When you plug it in, the heat of the lights releases some of the fragrance. Nice "night light" too.
We have done Fall arrangements. drift wood creations, decorated frames with a nautical design, Thanksgiving centerpieces, "Puppies in a basket" (cute!), wood chip boxes with pressed flowers embedded in Mod Podge, Dry erase Memory Boards, Christmasy wall hangings, and many more. You get the idea what I do in my classes?? SMALL projects that can be finished in about 2 hours by all ability levels of people. YES! Sometimes it is frustrating! Sometimes someone will sign up who has NEVER even used a glue gun! And like last months project (The pine cone Turkey), we were working with a lot of real feathers! Yikes!!!!
Every time we do one of these projects that I have "put together", I want to do more and more of them and sell them. I know how! I have the supplies! I DON'T know what to do with them once I make them..........:o(((
OK! Enough of this "confessional". I just wanted you to see that I am a bit like you--only on a much smaller scale. That is WHY I understand you!!!!!!
I have ALL the supplies needed. Just need motivation and an outlet to sell some of these once I have made tons of them.
I know the outlets are there--I just need the motivation. Get off my buns and DO IT!
Maybe, next year, IF I decide to retire from HD, I will have to learn a new discipline in my life and actually DO some of these crafts and seriously look into the Christmas Crafts events. This wold mean puttin aside certain hours of the day (just like a job) to work on stuff. Self-discipline id HARD!!!!!
I can do, and have done, almost anything! I am really talented in a way. NO power tools! I do not feel comfortable using those. I would like to learn! When I have no other commitments in my life (like an unpredictable job schedule), I would love to join a Sr, Center and take a "Wood Shop" class. So far I have had a real mental issue about joining a Senior Center. Even though I am WAY old enough (70), I do not feel old enough to go to a Senior Center. To take a class--OK! To go there for other activities? NO!!!!!
My Ex was a master at anything to do with wood and building and fixing. Well--I lost him to a "hussie".....Now he does and builds for other people and, of course, his 2 daughters. I am 100% out of the picture! I think his "woman" keeps a tight leash on him. He has not had any contact with me for 15 years, and he lives right here in town. Sad!
OK! Enough of this "baring the Soul" stuff! But--it DOES make us all closer to each other--NO? We are NOT all that different!
See! If I have something concrete to post--I will post here. I will not post if it is just describing all my daily events and trials and tribulations. I know you all do--but I am NOT comfortable with all that. Each to her own......
Take care! Gita
Did enjoy your post Gita, and yes we are very much alike..I've seen more ladies alive in the senior groups I've worked with than in the younger genereation..must be the zest for life...not necessary to post as we do, our post become our way of lifting the telephone to tell someone about our day..just so much easier because it's accessible to meet our needs re our available time...
Not sure if you were with us from Pt. 1 but I started it to say that what I missed in my life was not being able to cuddle into bed, tell DH the fun things that happened to me during the day, what made me sad, and the learning part however small...think we got in tune with each other by doing this...if he was grumpy or was I we came to understand why through our nightly Best,Worse and What did I learn today..just a play with words, but it is so much more..it says 'I truly am interesting in knowing how your day went..let me share mine as well' some might just call it a good old gab session, a place to xxxxx...think we all know (just by lack of posts) that someone is feeling down, through many posts that they are up on cloud nine and it gives us the opportunity to either feel better, generate new interest just by reading their post or try to offer kind words (some of wisdom) to make them feel like they have so many who want to offer support, love and kindness...so post when you feel you want to, we'll know you are around and will say hi from time to time, but know you have a friend in all who visit here...
Well, I'm gabbing when I should be working/working...on 2nd cup of coffee, getting myself organized for long but fun day and Kyle and Noah will be here around 5 to look after grandma for the evening..lol..Greg and Mel have a Christmas party to go to...
Will take photo's though and post tonight...
Morning Alll, Well, it's FRIDAY!!!! YEAH!!! I think I'm only going to work a half day today - and go get my nails done! My boss is working from home today. I haen't been able to work from home because I can't get my VPN application to work even since they "terminated" me Thxgvg week. It has been a real pain! I am taking my laptop oin today to upgrade it to a new one then I'll attempt once again to get my VPN working.
So I had a bit of excitement this morning. On Friday mornings, I take my DD and some of her girlfriends to a girl's bible breakfast in nearby neighborhood. Well, I dropped them off at 7am and was trucking back thru the neighborhood on my way to work. Out of the corner of my left eye I see two white standard poodles running along the median strip. In the split second of seeing them, one ran out into the road in front of me and I slammed on my brakes and I know skidded for 10 feet. the poor thing was looking over it's shoulder at me and when I came to a stop I didn't see him. Then thankfully he/she popped up and took off down the road and record speed with it's "brother" speeding along after. I couldn't believe I didn't him him! Poor thing was scared to death! I took off after them and they were flying along the median. I finally caught up to them and called them from my window and they slowed down and came up to me. So I parked in the middle of the road and luckily another person saw me doing this so they pulled their car across the road so no one else would come down and I was able to coax them to my truck and got them both in. WHEW!!! I think they were brother and sister. the girl's name was Lilly. I was able to get the number off the tags (Thank God they had collars!) and I called the family. Two mins later, this man (quite nice looking) rolls up in his car. Gets out in his bathrobe (that's not tied completely, but that's ok, cause his chest was quite nice) Sorry, I digress..... Anyway, he said they have a fenced in yard and the dogs are getting out some how and he was so thankful and I just kept looking at his chest! HMMMMMM! LOLOLOL Anyway, I think the poor guy was pulled out of bed by his wife when I called and he was only able to throw on the bathrobe and not even tie it at that! That was ok with me! perked up my morning!!! Did a good dead AND got a good peek! Sure wish my DH had a chest like that! I know, I'm BAD! :)
Anyway, after that, the rest of my day should be cake!!
Morning all,
I want to tell you about my great little "find" yesterday. I went to the small town just north of me to go to the Dutch bakery to get some special licorice for my BIL to put in his Christmas gift bag.
I noticed a new antique shop opened up recently. I prowled around inside and found a stack of old sheet music. My neighbour's grandkids are both good pianists..I discovered sheet music for "The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" from 1921..and it was only $2.00. I was so tickled I wrapped it and took it over to my neighbour and said "give it to the kids so they can learn to play it before Christmas..
I Googled and found the same sheet music for sale for $15.00 on Ebay.
Betty..big fire in Barrie this morning..an old landmark hotel has exploded and burned..
Hope your craft class goes well.
Gitagal..enjoyed reading about you and your crafts..and about Home Depot. We have a new Home Depot being built nearby. I have had great help and not so great help in Home Depots before...but Betty's bad experience with the cement tops the cake!
Bye for now,
Carol
LOL Jeannine..
Loved your description of the owner....I'll bet your heart was thumping.....because of not hitting the dog....and well you know..LOL
What a way to start the day..
What colour do you like for your nails..I have only had my nails done professionally twice. When I was working I liked light corals...

Carol, I usually get OPI - "20 Candles on Your Cake" for the cold months and then something softer for warm moths. I don't like the shimery ones at all - just the cream colors. I may go for Xmas red today. Will see what mood I'm in......

Jeannine, Ha, would love to have had your morning UH meeting.
...You all are great!
well my Baby Donavin is home and mom and he are doing just great. Nephew sent me some great photos, lol already printed and sitting on my desk. He is just too precious for words. You just got to know I am so bumming i can't hold him, give him a little kiss. So gave DN strict orders to do this for me. He's a good boy, and said he already did, makes me smile...will give him a call tonight and hum a lil lullaby to him.
Betty, sorry didn't get a chance to sit and write up itinerary last night. You know had to clean up my big, big mess. So i am again organized with my craft table and raring to begin the next...Got 3 more ornements to work this weekend so I can send off on Monday. Plus the best thing of all, is I met a long time friend, almost 2 years of chatting via internet on the phone last night, she lives in NC. Oh my gosh, so much fun to finally hear her voice. hahah, you know me, can blab for hours and we did just that, and laugh...what an awsom evening.
Ok so, now we Are ready for Julia 18th birthday "gathering" it's not a party because she doesn't care for parties. So we have 4 of her closest friends coming tomorrow afternoon for a friendly day of fun, OH gosh my head already hurting from their music, LOL. We will decorate the tree and set a few decorations for Christmas. Excitment is brewing in our household...and OMG, did I tell you she s going to be 18, 18!! My baby can't be 18, man she is getting old. LOl. I am proud as can be though, she is coming into a nice sum of cash and you know what she want to do? Put it in investments and savings, I almost hit the floor, thought she'd blow most of it, guess she was listening to my blabbing.
Well..better get some sort of work done so I can leave early!
Have a wonderful day all..
He is a sweetie, dahlin'....
Of course he looks just like his auntie!
OH he is so precious I miss that joy of a new life coming to your life but I will wait to be a Grandma. Congrats.
My DD, Alysha is running off to Vegas on the 21st while her former fiance is on leave. I knew it. He is pretty good but I worry about them having kids. His family has some genetic mild retardation or low IQ. I told her to atleast have the military do some genetic testing before they bring an innocent child in the world. I wish it wasn't so close to Christmas, my birthday and Gregs all at the same time. She said we can give her, her gift when he comes back on leave the next time. I am happy I guess overall though.
Liz and B, It did go well and my aunt cooked one day and my dh did dishes one day and my sis another day so they were easy on me. That is how I am when I go to someone's house.
What do you think about the people who are on Ambien or Lunesta driving around the next morning still asleep? It is scary to me. I know so many on them and they all have done wierd stuff. My sister talked on the phone with someone for an hour and didn't remember it at all and my aunt traded stocks asleep.
Just read all your posts and would love to respond but I've just got home, worked like a xos.dfk. so I'll have to do it tomorrow...my right arm sure is giving me a lot of pain, so I've had my bath, Kyle went over to get pizza then pain killers and off to bed I go..thank goodness for 2 of my girlfriends who helped me out...
Was a great day..everyone enjoyed..had lunch at the 'Old Mill' which is 140 yrs. old and they've redone it and is now a specialty restaurant..was great..
Although it was snowing heavily this morning it stopped about 9am..thank goodness..so here's a few photo's, off to bed I go and will gab tomorrow..just cleaning to do here tomorrow morning and I'll be a lady of leisure..promise...

my youngest daughter is having some pain with this pregnancy. she is about 12 weeks and has had an ultra sound and all seems ok but they cant explain the pain so some prayers would help.
went out last night to the work breakup and it was awful. the boss turned up and wouldnt talk to anyone! she looked like thunder! the food was aweful and we didnt get our main meal until 10pm!! we were all furious, complained and left! no dessert, it was too late to wait! grrr so that was a bust.
well thats about it...
hope your all well, you sure all look busy...
take care
x
Went out last night to the work breakup , What is this? Sounds like she is a miserable wench all around, I would feel glad if she shared my misery too.
I
Evening...well l'm all shopped out..4 more to pick up which have been set aside in the city for Monday and everything wrapped and under the tree..wow, somebody went a little crazy..oddest thing, I had the Sears wish book and asked Noah to circle some of his 'wishes' and again he did include a chocolate fondue so I asked him if he circled it because it would be a gift for his mother and he said nope, he thought it would be a wonderful thing to have so picked one up for him..did buy myself something though..2 molds to make the ice stars that you can put a candle into them for you table or walkway, so tonight I have one in the freezer..I really think I should have gifts from Santa as well...then, I saw the most beautiful pair of p.j.'s..almost velvet but very plush and very extravagant..thought that Melanie DIL might like them then started to think, she's put on some weight and although she may have needed X large, I'm not the one who will break it to her so, walked on pass that aisle and ended up with gift certificate as one of her gifts...lol...then got all the birthday gifts..Jeff's today, Kyle is on Friday, Greg is New Years' Day (won't be here) and Caleb and Braedon just had their and haven't seen them since..so will order a cake and wish everyone happy birthday...lordy, not well planned, should have had my boys in the summer..lol...
If it doesn't snow hard tomorrow which they are calling for I'll trek into Barrie and pick up stocking stuffers...
So had better post as I'm off to bed..will make another early start in the morning and then it's all over...
Best...I've got pretty well everything done AND did not use 1 credit card..that made me extremely happy...
Worse..Didn't get to talk to Jeff for his birthday..left 2 messages so not sure what's up..know he thought he might fly out and do some skiing, so who knows...
What did I learn...saw the manager at the lumber yard and went in and spoke to him..told him how terrific his employees are as everytime I'm in there they go to great lengths to help me find the right product so, brought in 1 of the Victorian Santa's and gave it to them for an employee draw..can't give everyone one but someone will go home with one for Christmas...so, I saw just how thankful a little thing like that can be..he showed his employees and kept saying, how wonderful..so I did learn that a bit of kindness goes a long way..
Well, will respond to all yours posts, get back into a routine once tomorrow is over...do hope you are all well!!
Sounds great Betty. You just amaze me, in an exhausted way. I feel so lazy compared to you.
We gave Greg a surprise BD party today, Tuesday is his birthday and he is going to be 49 and he has never in his adult life had a party or a surprise one and boy was he surprised.
Just wanted to say a quick "hello" to all.
Spent all day yesterday shopping for the holidays. Was at my parents all day today to celebrate Hanukkah. Going down tomorrow to Chehalis in the early a.m. to help our friends that where severely effected by the floods. We will be tearing out the sheetrock in the house and putting up new. When I get home I will catch up with all of you tomorrow night.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Hugs, Rachel
Morning all..
Dawn bet you got as much satisfaction having the party as did Greg enjoy it...
Rachel, sounds as though you are into the festivities and how wonderful to be helping friends..isn't that truly the meaning of Christmas..
It's early here, 4:43am but was tossing/turning so thought I might as well get up and house clean for three or four hours then off for more shopping..will have to have the gift opening upstairs if I keep purchasing more gifts..lol
Boys will be rapping my fingers..telll me not to spend so much but I always do it without using credit cards so no debt, as long as I have real money, I'll spent it...aren't I terrible...
So off I go for my very last 'busy' day then it's feet up, coffee in hand and do nothing....not sure how many of you will believe that but that's the game plan...
Morning all,
Betty I see that your craft class went well..I'll bet you are happy it all came together. I think that was a lovely thing you did to give one of the Santas for a raffle to the lumberyard people.
Wonder...I'm thinking "Work Breakup" must be like our get work Christmas parties here??
Hellnzn..Greg must have been thrilled.
Rachie..good for you ..sounds like a huge job to redo all
I went to visit my Son &DIL to give her a gift for her birthday next week. They had recently painted their living/dining room brown and I thought it was quite dramatic. I really like it. It is amazing what a change of paint will do.
We had a nice visit. It was a sunny warmer day here too. Nice for the drive.
Hopefully I will go get my two youngest grandaughters today. We are putting some recent photos in frames for them to give their parents for Christmas.
Have a great day all
Carol
Hi all,
I love the brown dining room. Makes me want to do something like that with mine. Maybe in the spring, I have to many projects going on right now to take time to paint the walls.
Betty I have enjoyed all your crafts. I have 2 Santas and a snow man to make and then I will be through. all my decorating and shopping is done. My Santas and snowmen are made with a wine bottle base and a soft sculpture head and body, so a little different from yours. The Santas are victorian though.
I have a 6'x4' painting that I am working on, commissioned by a lady in Paducah for a long wall in her house, so that is keeping me very busy.
We are going to miss you while you are gone, Betty, but we know it will be a much deserved vacation for you, and I hopeyou have a wonderful time. I wish I were on the way so that I could see you, but live too far away. Seed is going to be within 2 hours of me, though, and if I don't have company when she stops at Mammoth Cave, I am going to go meet her......
Hope all of you are having a great weekend...drizzly and dreary here, lots of fog, too...so not very pretty. But I turn all the christmas lights on and I can't see the dreary for the lovely lights.

I almost forgot to mention, I started a prayer thread for a little 7 year old boy here who has a brain stem tumor. It doesn't look good for him, as I explained on the thread. If you have time you might check it out. He and his family need all the good thoughts/prayers they can get.
thanks.
