Stop and visit, talk all you want #3

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I know you can season them, just seems to me the old ones would be better.... like how an old grill top makes food taste better? I dunno, maybe not.

LOL about the stairs. I would have probably done it 20-25 yrs ago, but definitely not now I sure hope they don't try. I'm still recovering from the 5 stitches in Jeff's chin back in July, bicycle + storm grate= pain, blood and stitches LOL

I wasn't LOLing at the time. I didn't freak out til it was all over and he was stitched up and home in bed. I'm lucky though, this was the first time any of my kids needed stitches. My oldest fractured his skull less than a month later, but I didn't know about that til he was home from the ER. My sister took him and called me when she got him home.

Ouch--that photo makes me hurt for him just to look at it! Hope he is all better by now. It reminds me of the time when my oldest son, who was 5 at the time, fell off his bike and plowed up the pavement with his face. He looked a lot like Jeff does in that photo. He had a big fat nose and a big fat lip--looked like somebody took a ball bat to him. After the ER doctor took care of my son, he had to give me a tranquilizer! LOL

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Marsue, its funny now, but it wasn't then. He knocked out a tooth one of his top front teeth, and his chin was cut so bad. The thing was, his chin was cut so deep it cut through the nerves so he couldn't feel it, and he didn't want to go to the Er, he wanted to go find his tooth, cause he didn't think the tooth fairy would come without it! We called the ambulance cause he was losing so much blood so fast. Yuck. Thats the good picture, the other ones I took really gross me out to look at them now :( He still complains that his chin hurts sometimes, its just really tender so if he bumps it, it hurts.

I didn't get a tranquilizer at the ER :( Maybe I should have acted all freaked out LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, my son had his accident back in the "olden days" before the doctors started getting all flustered and thinking you were a drug addict if you asked them for a tranquilizer. I only needed one of them, anyway, not a whole prescription. LOL

Well, I am going to go see if the Hallmark channel has a good Christmas movie on tonight. Y'all have a good evening!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

OUCH! That makes my face hurt looking at the poor baby!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Poor kid! Ouch is right! But that's funny that he was more concerned about missing out on the tooth fairy's visit than getting seen by a doctor.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

It was pretty ouchy. I felt so bad. Worst part was, I was leaving the next day for my 10 day stay in Iowa. I almost stayed home, but since he wasn't hurt any worse, I decided to go ahead and go. If he had broken anything I definitely would have stayed home. The tooth fairy was the only thing on his mind though, he didn't care at all about the cut on his chin, but since he couldn't feel it and could feel that the tooth was missing, I guess in his mind that was more important. He was so brave at the ER, I was so proud of him.

Well, the ex hubby hasn't posted yet at all, my son says he has been lurking on the SouthWest forum, but hasn't posted yet. I really hope he decides to. I 'm pretty sure it will brighten his days a little and give him something to do. If I know him at all (and I should) he is reading previous threads that catch his eye. He is a pretty avid reader also.

Mike was so cold and so tired when he got home tonight, he is already in bed. He says we got about 7 inches of snow total. We haven't had that much in a couple years at least.

Well, I"m gonna go take my sleeping pill and go to bed. I get to sleep in a little in the morning, the kids are on a 2 hour delay and they will probably cancel school as the secondary roads are still pretty bad. I'm not sure if I'll send any of them if they don't cancel, as all 3 of my little ones are coughing and sneezing and sounding like frogs :( I gave them all cough and cold medicine before bed.

Hope everyone had a great day

Hugs
Janis

Ky, the pic of mom does have a dog in it. Her Jack Russell. Just can't remember his name. PeeWee, I think.

Seems I don't have to have a second interview. I've been withthe company long enough, the bosses all know me. Haven't decided if that's good or bad! LOL

The pic of your boy, Janis, looks like me when I was 8. Tried to pop my bike up onto a sidewalk and the front wheel went but the back one didn't! I went right over the handlebars and onto the pavement! LOL Seven stitches in my chin. Never tried THAT one again.

back pain is aweful. DH went through the same thing with the pain. Had an MRI and they said it's because his disks are drying. They also said it happens to everyone as they age. He's barely in his forties now and this was 5 years ago so...I don;'t know. It doesn't hurt him now. At least he hasn't said.

Glad everyone made it through the day.

Talk tomorrow.

Celia

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

We ought to be in bed, but after sleeping til noon, then an evening nap! LOL Sis is still going strong, too, and she is 5! :)

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Oh, my, Kwan, your DH's spinal condition sounds painful!
Yeah, I know I ought to be sleeping, but I have this paper due...so why am I here at DG?? LOL

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Cause it is addicting! :) And I am working on entering into my trade list, STILL! Will I ever be done?????????? Doubt it! LOL

(Zone 7a)

My DH has to be up in 5 hours and he's in playing videos games right now. Me, I dont have to get up until 10:30am at least.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I may just sleep til noon again! Night all! :)

(Zone 7a)

Good morning! Got my coffee, it's 34 degrees and looking like rain. I checked the weather and it's supposed to rain later today and tonight.

It's funny how things work out. I've been working on a japanese garden for a few years now. Diligently working away and making lists for what plant material I would like. Generally having to get creative with some things. I can't afford some of the plants I want as they're WAY too expensive. One of the things I want is some black bamboo. The cheapest place I could find has it for $100.00 a gallon container. That's the sale price!

I just got an offer from a lady in Oregon to send me some for postage! LOL I couldn't believe what I was reading! We just have to figure out how to cut some roots and package and ship.

Anybody know or should I start a new thread on the grass and bamboo forum?

I was going through pictures again and I found this of my Isis.

I also found a pic of my nephew who was a suicide. This was two years before his death.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

The kiddo's are getting ready for school... I'll probably need the 4WD to get out of the drive but hopefully the main roads are clear. Its only 11 degrees outside!!!! BRRRRRRR

Wow Kwan, hopefully that is great news about the 2nd interview. Your nephew was a really handsome kid (my first thought was beautiful, but you said he was your nephew, so...) Also great news about the bamboo. Never heard of black bamboo, but not much into plants like that. Hopefully you guys figure out how to get it to you.

My eye doc called, my glasses are in, even the receptionist commented on how fast they came in. So after the kids get on the bus I"m off the town to get my glasses, and socks for the kids, Mike picked them up boots last night but all they have is ankle socks LOL They are wearing my socks to school LOL

Well, I gotta get dressed and ready to go, so I"ll check back in later

hugs to all

Janis

(Zone 7a)

Good luck, Janis. Stay warm!

And he was beautiful, inside and out. He always wanted to come with me when I went out when he'd visit us. My little shadow. I miss him.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

So sad about your nephew, kwan. I just don't understand what drives these young people to think that suicide is a better option than life! --but then I am not walking in their shoes. I know despair and the lack of hope can drive people of all ages to do terrible things both to others and to themselves. It's a sad commentary on our times. :o((
The doc prescribed a pain med for DH's back pain. Right now that is the only option for him. :o(( He was feeling better last night so he didn't take any of it and now he is hurting again. --Should have taken it last night! The doc told him to take Tylenol during the day and the pain med before he goes to bed. DH can't have an
MRI because he has a pacemaker and yet the xrays don't really tell them what they need to know. It's a predicament, unfortunately!

Good luck on the job thing and on the black bamboo, kwan. I hope it doesn't multiply like regular bamboo--you would be covered up with it in no time! LOL It might be best if you started a new thread on the grass forum--I certainly don't know anything about black bamboo and the others over here probably don't know much, either.

It's cold here, too. It was forecast to get down to 34 last night but were they ever wrong--it down into the 20's! Fortunately, we have no snow.

Send us a pic of yourself in those new glasses, Janis!

Hope you are feeling much better by now, misty!

I have a poem that was written by my grandmother years ago. It's a good reminder for mothers--especially those of you who still have small children. I will go copy it and paste it in my next post. Be right back.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

I couldn't find the poem I was talking about in my word processing program. I may have downloaded it to a disk so I will have to go find it. However, I did find this poem --a couple of you have mentioned that your grandmother has been especially important in your lives so I copied this one and pasted it below. Hope you enjoy it.

My Grandma

My grandma, she’s so good to me,
I know she loves me so –
She tells the grandest stories
About the long ago.

She takes me to the park and zoo
And buys me candy bars,
And Grandma knows most everything
About the moon and stars.

She bakes the grandest cookies
A fellow ever ate –
And always has enough for me
To share with each playmate.

She knows the nicest things to do
Upon a rainy day,
To entertain a fellow
And pass the time away . . .

And so. . .if I had just one wish,
I’d wish one very fine –
I’d wish that every boy could have
A grandma just like mine.
–Sarah Mizelle Morgan

This poem appeared in an issue of Ideals Magazine years ago. If I (Marilyn) had a guess, I would guess it was written with all of us in mind although she used the words "fellow" and "boy" in the poem itself. Our grandparents lived just two or three blocks from us when I was born. My sister and brother were five years old and four years old at that time. I am sure they saw a lot of our “Granny” and “Daddee” during those years before my grandfather was transferred to Fort Smith, Arkansas, by Western Union where he worked. Granny was a wonderful grandmother and we loved her dearly! Our grandfather was a somewhat austere man--not one to show his feelings. Although we loved him, we were not as
close to him as we were to our beloved “Granny”.
Granny wrote a lot of poetry over the years. I wish I had copies of all the poetry she wrote. I do have a booklet of her poems called “From the Garden of the Muse”. I remember reading a poem she wrote about our Cocker Spaniel, “Cinder” (Cindy). That poem has been lost, unfortunately, along with much of her poetry. Our grandfather did not appreciate Granny’s poetry and other writings. When he went through her things after her death he threw out everything related to her writings before any of the rest of the family was aware of what he had
done. We were all upset about it but it was too late–most of her writings were gone!

Marsue, Geoff had a chemical imbalance in his brain. Drs. put him on Prozac for awhile but then, after more tests, found it wasn't helping. They were still in the process of evaluating him when it happened. His sister has the same problem but she's doing much better.

Bamboo is going to be in a large pot so it will behave. This kind is a runner.

Can't wait to read the poem.

(Zone 7a)

That's very unfortunate, Marsue. People just don't understand the consequences.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

I've heard that prozac can sometimes cause more problems than it 'cures', especially in people under the age of 18. There are warnings now with all anti-depressants about the risk of suicide for those taking such meds and especially with young people. I guess the medical profession learned this the hard way after many of their patients on anti-depressants committed suicide. A man I used to work for committed suicide while he was on anti-depressants and was being treated by a psychiatrist. He left a wife and three children. So sad!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, I'm gonna be outta here for a while. I need to get some Christmas decorating done--haven't put a thing out so far and I sure don't want to feel like Scrooge, even though there are no children in our house anymore. The grandkids are here from time-to-time and they enjoy the decorations. :o))

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Janis and everyone I just wanted to say Hi and let you all know I lurk here and really enjoy this forum. Janis one of ours from the Southwest forum has sent your husband a personal invite to join us!! We also started a thread to welcome him.

It is sad. I think I mentioned before that his father blamed himself. But after speaking with his Drs., he has found what you said to be true. But he never blamed them. Neither did his mother. It's the way of things and it can't be helped sometimes. Moving forward with medications have their horror stories and DB and DSIL have said that they would rather have the drugs available than not. They ARE helping his sister.

(Zone 7a)

Welcome, Marie!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

would everyone please say a prayer for my DH's Mom? his sis called and said she was crashing. :(

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

His sis just called with an update:
She was going for some testing and needed to go to the bathroom-she fell while she was in there and they lost all pulse and everything and it took somewhere between 3-15 heart compressions to get her back. She is now in ICU and on full oxygen. This is all I know for now. Please keep the prayers coming. Thanks, Tammy

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)
