Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm definitely trying a few next year.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Very pretty, Patti! I think I may leave my two growing out in the garden here over the summer. I'm a bit nervous that the sun will be too harsh on them, but I see others growing here and hope they'll make it until next year. What do you think? I could dig them up and bring them north and put them in a dark place for a few weeks instead......hmmmmmm

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I think you should check out the people in the Amaryllis and Hippeastrum forum, as their are some very knowledgeable people who live in Fla who will answer your question (Gordo)Here is what I have at the moment, they don't hang put together normally as I have them scattered about. A couple more will be open this week. Hooray! Patti

Donnie, I found this website. It might help http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/EP060 . I also found this website http://www.rochestergardening.com/bulbs/amrylcar.html for anyone, including myself, that live in the Northeast and want to grow an amaryllis.

Thanks so much, Anita! That link was very helpful! I've decided to leave them in the ground and see what happens.

Patti - yours are very pretty all in bloom at the same time!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

sure thing. I'd be curious to see if they multiply for you

Pretty, Patti! Is Miss Winnie coming with you to Sanibel?? LOL

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

No, but their best guy pal is down there who summers up here in Nantucket and has sleep overs often. Mr. Bubba, is a beagle who much prefers hanging out in our yard than in his. He is not allowed to be off a leash except at our house. So that is heaven for him. His owner is convinced he will run off and get eaten by an alligator. But in Nantucket, his biggest treat would be to fall in love with lime green and pink and become less of a Bubba and more of a Bradford Beagle the !V. Patti

Yesterday Amaryllis 'Pink Diamond' bud is starting to open.

I wouldn't call it a pink-pink. More like a red-pink if you ask me, or maybe because it's just opened and it will lighten up?

Very pretty Celeste.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I saw the bulb in the clearance bin at WalMart for $2.50, it had green shoots already emerging so I bought it. Brought it home, planted it and less than 2 weeks later....a bloom with 2 buds behind it. The only problem (or not) is it has no leaves, just one stem and it's very, very short.(like me)

Thumbnail by pixie62560

Come on Celeste - your not THAT short.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL no but I sure feel it when im around my brothers....4 out of 6 are 6 feet or over.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

is short but very pretty

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I've been enjoying all your beautiful houseplants and couldn't wait any longer for some flowers of my own. So I just got these African violets. They're very very small--minis and semi-minis. (The first two are my sister's.)

Very pretty Loretta! I had an AV for about 8 years and then it just up and died, never did figure out how I killed it.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the one with the pink in the leaves

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice Loretta. I love the AV's. I've grown quite a few in recent years. The mini's are the best. I too like the pink leaf. The white flower is amazing and aren't the variegated beautiful? If you are ever pruning and have a leaf or two extra -- keep me in mind.

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thank you.

I had a bunch of African violets several years ago and they all eventually faded away. I can't believe how many zillions of choices there are now, and since the minis take up so little space...... It took me forever to narrow my order down to just a few. I have more on my Wish List. Thank goodness most of the nurseries aren't shipping now.

Will definately keep you in mind, Anita.

This is my indoor garden

I am jealous. I don't have nothing, well a gardenia that has not blossomed yet. I am going to get off the veggie craze and do something else this year :-)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh thats beautiful! Look at all the orchids you have!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah! Beautiful orchids!!

What beautiful African Violets and Orchids!! My goodness! I could gaze at those photos all day long and drink in their beauty.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Celeste - very pretty color in that amaryllis!

Loretta - I love your minis....especially the pink leaves. I used to grow AVs, but as a snowbird, I can no longer have houseplants. I have never seen the ones with pink leaves before. Lovely!

AgedGardener - what a cheerful and colorful indoor winter garden you have!! Beautiful orchids! My one orchid that goes back and forth with me is a cross made by my Mom, who was quite the orchid hybridizer. It is hanging from a palm tree at my front door now. I hope it blooms this year. It skipped last year.

Patti - Mr. Bubba's owner is smart to keep him at home on Sanibel. Sad story last year about an alligator attacking an elderly man's small dog on Rabbit Road. When the man tried to help the dog, he was also injured and died from the wound. Terrible tragedy.
