Indoor Blooms, Anyone?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Certainly possible, Louise. Happened to me at the beginning! I'll try to find that cheap source.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Victor.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, Victor. Thank you so much.

Patti: now you have me wishing for a greenhouse!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

victor, how did that notebook taste, I love anything fried! I had those polymer things pop out of some of the pots that I put them in and the dogs thought they were ice cubes which they love in the summer. Is it harmful if eaten? How much do (ratio) you put in a pot and do you mix it or layer it in the bottom, middle or what ?

Candyce, I do love the GH so much in the winter, but it becomes a chore to have when we want to go on a trip as it is hard to get a house sitter that does both dogs and the huge number of plants that we have well. When you say water, most just don't understand the amount of water the plants need. We have a great dog gal who tries, but I don't think she finds my plants cuddly or fun like the girls.

It is blowing, cold and raining hard here, a good day for decorating the tree and to do some baking. And clean up the mess we are making getting the house decorated. I imagine Candyce that you got snow big time. How is everybody else doing with this latest storm? Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I either mix the polymers uniformly with the soil or put most toward the bottom. It's really trial and error, though there were instructions. I would not let the dogs eat it.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, I didn't but it did make me nervous as they sometimes knock pots over and as it is shiny and attractive I thought they might eat it or some little kid might think it was clear jello.
I will have to check to see if it is toxic before investing in some. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It does have some ingredient with a long funky name - I would not use them if the dogs are likely to get at them.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Patti, your blooms are magnificent. I love the orange geranium.

Thanks Victor, from me too!

Louise, I saw that she had heaps on the surface of the soil of her potted plants. I think she just didn't know what she was doing.

I think this is it:

Prices are much lower than elsewhere. Seems like the same stuff. I'm pretty sure I bought mine from here years ago.

Beautiful photos!
I'm still watching the cactus buds get bigger every day, but so far, no bursting forth with great joy and enthusiasm!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

my Phal orchid is getting ready to bloom, slowly. At the rate it's going, the buds might be open for Easter.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Oh, Easter! Well, Easter is arriving early this year after all.
I can't wait to see your orchid in bloom!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Harper, I love orchids, when ever they bloom! Will be waiting to see it when it does open.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

onewish, thats beautiful! I got 5 blooms from Apple Blossom and it has one more bud to go. That is the most I have ever got in terms of buds from a Amaryllis.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Here is the large Christmas cactus I am not much of a photographer - the flash makes the flowers look less impressive - but the light from the window made the foreground too dark.

Here is a Swedish Ivy from a cutting sent by pirl - See? they are thriving pirl. When they are larger, we are going to get hanging baskets and have showcased in the dining room :-)

Boston Ferns given to me by my neighbours This one is in a lovely urn - and it is huge - note the windex bottle (used to spray the fern) It's there to give you a sense of size.

Here's another. This one is in the Canada Room on the third floor. We don't have the radiators turned on, unless we plan to use the room, so the temperature stays around 50 or so degrees.

And the third Boston Fern It's in a little tougher shape.

This one is also in the Canada Room, elegantly furnished with plastic patio chairs and bistro tables lol!

There are four tables, each with its hanging candle lamp. The Canada Room has the original Victorian Bar - and if you are coming to the May sleep over, this is where you are likely to bed down (there is a guest bedroom on the third floor as well :-)

Everything looks great Michaela

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow that christmas cactus takes my breath away

Pixie... this one is the best I have had also... and go figures it was the free one out of the bunch I bought... the ones I paid for... not even close to that one

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Great plants, Michaela. I now have indoor garden envy.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, the ferns were given to me - I am just trying to keep them alive :-) The large Christmas cactus is actually about 5 plants in one pot.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

They are all gorgeous Michaela!

I got a simple Christmas bouquet, nothing special, but the light was hitting them just right so I snapped some pics. No need to edit, shade or anything but resize.....my kind of picture taking!
