Happy Un-Birthday, Harper!
Harper's Birthday - part 3
Cat - that's a great way for me to start the day on DG. It's lovely.
Hey, Happy New Year to everyone here! Victor, you always pick on me for not posting elsewhere. You're just too fast for me! I feel like I must post on this thread because I'm being addressed specifically... I follow other threads when I get the chance.
My mother's coming to stay for a week. I spent the last month cleaning house. After she's gone, then I have two weeks off and then my sister comes for a week. Phew! I can't deal with all this excitement!
Enjoy!
Show her your endless birthday thread and let her know it's because we think of you a lot and think a lot of you.
Awwww! I think a lot of you too Arlene. : )
Just teasing, Harper. Say hi to mom! She must be a great lady - she certainly raised a great daughter.
Awww! Now I gotta show her this thread.
Thanks Victor. You know you can razz me anytime. I'll razz ya right back.
Let's keep that private!
In your dreams!
Harper - have a fun visit with your mom and sister! Eleanor
You have to clean your home BEFORE your mom and sister comes? I must be the luckiest woman in the world - neither my mother, my sister, or my mother-in-law (now deceased) can keep house clean! Even when my home was cluttered and untidy, it was spotless compared to theirs!
Panic cleaning always works for me. My mom always kept a spotless home and I try but spills happen.
I'm just thankful if I can keep our home picked up! Right, Eleanor? Grandkids are wonderful 'helpers'!
Helpers doing what - cleaning up or making a mess!! Mine just makes a mess. Eleanor
you are so right, Eleanor. Although little Miss "M" was so cute last evening as she walked around with one of my huge plastic cooking spoons and a dish towel. She was 'drying' the dishes, as I was washing the dinner dishes. It's great to let them do stuff like that. It makes them feel important.
But, generally speaking. Yeah. They create BIG messes! It seems that there's always some toy underfoot, or some musical noisemaker going off somewhere. I love it though. Too soon they grow up.
It's been a few days, and didn't want this thread to get lost in the shuffle.
Harper, what "great plans" do you have for yourself this year?
Not a resolution, but I plant to clean the clutter out of my house.
I have to get my house in shape for company this Fall. But first - I have to get the washing machine working again. Maybe the new pump will come in the mail today.
The Fall? You must have a lot of work to do!
Yup - lots of work and not too much money. But I'm doing a little every day. I got one closet cleared out so I can start there.
I just noticed my typo: I "plant" to clean the clutter out of my house! Well, that's one way to get rid of it, I suppose - just dig a hole and plant the clutter!
Baby steps, Memory, one at a time!
Those are my exact 'great plans' Sue. Clean the clutter.
Well, I hope we all have a happy, clutter-less 2008!
Oh yeah! I also told myself that I wouldn't spend any money on plants until I mosaic the bathroom vanity. I have the tiles ready. Well, I hope it's enough. I just have to do it. Then I'll take pics!!!
Oh, gee, I also want to paint one of the rooms in the basement and the stairwell leading to the basement, finish the trim in my bedroom, paint and organize the closet in my bedroom, paint the bathroom, replace the bathroom exhaust fan... all before spring...
Yeah, right . . . . .
Remember "baby steps" from What About Bob?
That movie cracked me up.
Interestingly, Dave, I got the "baby steps" phrase from a web-site that is all about getting clutter-free. It's called flylady.com (she likes fly fishing).
My sink is shining -but I can't get to it.
I tried Flylady. I think my standards are lower than hers. I decided a few years back that I could be perfectly happy even if my house was an utter disaster.
My wife likes Flylady. Finally Love Yourself, Right?
No other fans of "What About Bob?"
Is flylady a grown flygirl??
j-lo?
She was one.
NOW I understand!
Actually the term precedes In Living Color, where they called the dancers, J-Lo included, the Fly Girls. It goes back to the 80's and was a term for good looking women. 'She's fly!', guys would say. Women went from foxes to flies!
except it's an adjective, not a noun...
guys could be "fly" too - remember that song, er can't think who did it, "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"?
The term 'flygirl' was also used (actually more often) - noun.
: P
Dave, I liked "What about Bob?", but like the psych, I got irritated with him too. The movie was funny. I love Bill Murray.
Only nine months to go until your birthday, Harper.
