Stop and visit, talk all you want. Pt. 2

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi to everyone!

I can tell you from personal experience that AARP has not saved me one penny on insurance. When it was time to renew our HO and auto insurance last year and this year, I checked into the rates their preferred companies offered and I could get it cheaper through my local independent insurance agent. I do like the magazine and though DH and I haven't traveled much for the last two years, it is nice to get the discounts at hotels, motels, etc. I may not renew when my membership with them expires next year.

LOVE the How To Plant Your Garden, Misty! That is great advice!

I have 3 of Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas albums, or is it 4? Glad y'all reminded me that I need to get them out and start playing them.

My mother had one of those big heavy mixers when I was growing up. I don't know if it was a KitchenAid but I wish I still had it even if it didn't work. Just thinking about that mixer brings back lots of memories LOL I don't enjoy cooking all that much--never have, although I do love to eat! My desire would be able to afford a live-in cook! LOL I wouldn't even mind cleaning up after her or him if I didn't have to do the cooking. I'm not a creative cook and I don't get excited about cookbooks, either. I still think my best bet as far as cooking and growing flowers is to move in with cactuspatch! LOL but DH says he's coming with me, cactus, so get your guest room ready again! LOL I'll make a deal with you: You do all the cooking and I'll clean your house and help out in the flower beds!

With the season fast approaching, should I start a new thread about Christmas traditions or is there one already? I haven't had time to look at many other threads lately.
We could do it on here but those who don't post on here regularly wouldn't know about it. What do you think? Well, it's past my bedtime, so if any of you are still awake, mull it over in your dreams tonight and let me know tomorrow. Good night, all.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Good, glad you all are liking that! :)

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the AARP advice, y'all! I will keep it in mind if I get the chance to travel sometime.

(Zone 7a)

Okay, everyone. The concert was...I want to say 'awesome' but that word is so overused. I will say they were on fire tonight. At times, literally! The put on a show that is unbelievable! The story was predictable but that didn't stop us from cheering after every number! LOL My ears are still ringing. I haven't been to a show like that in a very long time. DH and I are making plans to see them again next year. If you have never been, I recommend that you do. Okay, I'll say it. They were "AWESOME"!!! I want to go again NOW!!! LOL

(And I have my interview on Saturday.) And we did get our snow. I don't have to drive in the AM but DH does. I always tell him to be careful but I still worry. (sigh) Guess I always will.

BRRRRRRRR its 24 degrees here this AM. Supposed to get up into the 50's. Sunday I guess its supposed to get bad, snowy icy, the whole 9 yards. :(( I have to take the kids to their dads Sat and Sun, and then take my friend into Wheeling Monday AM. Mike says its gonna be crappy.

Concert sounds excellent! I had a chance to see the TSO a couple years ago, still kicking myself for not going.

Just got back from taking the kids to school, have Mikes truck today. Cramming all 4 of us in the truck is no fun, but we got there and back LOL He took my Trail Blazer today, it has a headlight and a brake light out, and... (drumroll LOL) I get another Christmas gift early... my remote starter and keyless entry :))He said he was gonna give me the gift certificate to have it done for Christmas, but decided to get it now so I didn't have to go out in the cold every AM to start the car. I am a warm weather person, don't function at all in the cold. I want to move south, but can't til the kids are older. Sigh... someday, right?

Kwanjin, keeping my fingers and toes crossed about the job.

Marsue, for me it isn't the mixer that has memories, its my grandmothers set of old Tupperware cannisters. The round ones that sat on a lazy susan. She gave them to me a few years back, they are one of my most prized possessions. I don't have good memories of my parents growing up, all my good memories are with my grandmother. So anything that reminds me of her makes me smile. She turned 84 in June, she can't live by herself anymore but is living with my uncle and his wife, and that is where she will be for the remainder of her days, but at least she is still with us. We came close to losing her in July. She has 5 kids, 11 grandkids, 20 great grand, and 1 great great granddaughter! Up until July she lived by herself, and took care of herself for the most part, my uncle and his wife live right next door, so she had help if she needed it.

Today is my baby boys 6th birthday :( They grow up so fast. My oldest is 17 now. Makes me sad.

Well, I guess I should do something (even if its just crawl back in bed LOL

Hugs,
Janis

edited cause i can't spell LOL

Janis: are those Tupperware canisters the olive green or the orange? I remember those! Now that would bring back memories, even though I never had any of the green or orange. I still have and use the big clear/transparent flour, sugar canisters and the cereal containers that I bought back in the 70's. That's a real testament to the endurability of Tupperware. LOL I'm so glad that your grandmother was always there for you and that you have good memories associated with her. and Happy birthday to your baby boy. My "baby boy" turned 36 last week!!!! His baby boy is 7 and now the light of my life along with his big sister. except of course, for my DH, who is my one true soul-mate. :o) He's my 2nd hubby and I am glad I found him--we have been married for almost 24 years now.

Kwan, glad you enjoyed the TSO concert--wish I'd been there, too!

Nobody has said anything about starting a thread for Christmas traditions in one's particular family. Good idea or no?

(Zone 7a)

I wish ALL of you could have been there with us! LOL We'd have had a blast! LOL

Hmm..memories, Xmas traditions...sounds like a good idea to me. Go ahead, Marsue.

Woofens, crawl back in that bed! You might not get the chance later so take it while you can. You deserve it. Also, my DH is my second as well. Don't know about you, but I sure learned a lot from my first about what I DON't want in a man and what I DO want. LOL ;-)

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Quoting:

Amen to that Kwan!

and I'm going to start the Christmas traditions thread now. I'll try to get back over here to insert a link.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Reading about the concert makes me remember I want to go! My dd went a couple of years ago and told me I was coming when they are back in NM.

Marsue, that sounds like a plan! I love to cook and could sure use the help with cleaning, LOL! I had the orange canisters, wish I still did and can't remember why I would have gotten rid of them.

Time sure does fly. My dd will be 37 in May. I keep thinking how can that be? It seems like just yesterday I was 37??? My first dh was killed by a drunk driver when she was a baby. My dh and I were friends in high school and met again in college after the first one died. We will be married 31 years soon. Lots of similarities there huh?

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh, what a sad story about your first dh, cactus. The difference in your first dh and my first dh is that mine was/is the drunk!! :o((( Otherwise, lots of similarities, indeed. P.S. DH says you better start an addition of another master suite to your house for us! ROTFLOL!!!!!

(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about your first DH, Cactus. That must have been hard. There aren't any words for that kind of hurt.

DH and I have been married for 7 years now. Always thought for years I would die alone and along came a miracle. My DD will be 30 next year and yes, time DOES fly! LOL Which reminds me, I have to get the guest bedroom ready as she's coming to visit next week! talk about time flying! LOL

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

We do have 2 guests rooms, one has it's own bath and we also have hookups for an RV. ; )

Gotta go look for your holiday post, then I better get back to work . My inbox overflows!

(Zone 7a)

Marsue, mine is too! Boy, do great minds think alike or what! LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

kwan, I'm assuming your 1st dh is a drunk, too? The more I 'talk' to people here on DG, the more I find I have in common with some of them.

cactus: hookups for an RV, huh?
Now all I need is an RV and the money to buy the gasoline for it!!!! LOL
Maybe Santa will drop an RV in my driveway. A girl can always wish!!!!!!!

I keep forgetting to put the link on here for the Christmas traditions thread.

(Zone 7a)

I started another one, too. Should I post a link?

And yes, 1st DH is a lush. Too bad for HIS second!

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Cactus so sorry about your first DH.

I'm on number.. well, lets just say it isn't the first or the second :( My littlest ones dad is an alcoholic... that is why we aren't together anymore. I gave him chance after chance, but the drinking was more important that me and the kids. Someday he'll realize what he lost.

The funny thing is, Mike and I were together before, in 2002-2003. I broke things off with him to give the kids dad "one more chance". HA! I'm just so thankful that Mike was willing to try again. I really have a King of a man in him, and I can't every appreciate him enough. His kids are grown, and he has a 3 month old granddaughter, and he raised his 2 by himself from the time they were toddlers (EX wasn't much of a mom at all) and now he has me and my 3 little ones.... I'm not sure I'd want little ones around again full time after raising mine! He spoils all of us, its something I never want to take for granted.

Where are the Christmas threads??

Hugs,
Janis

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Thanks for doing that for me, kwan. I tried to do it and "IT" wouldn't let me copy anything.???? go figure be sure to post the link for your new thread, too!

Janis, I know what you mean about the booze being more important to the ex than you and the kids. That is the way it was with me and my 1st hubby. Sad, sad, sad. But we can both rejoice that we have the men we have now!!!!!

Everybody, here's a link that will bring tears to your eyes--very touching. A friend just emailed it to me. I can get the hyperlink to work if I type in the address instead of trying to copy it so here it is:

Hey kwan, good luck Saturday! :)

(Zone 7a)

Oh yeah. Thanks, Misty! LOL

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Here is a pic of my canisters Marsue and I were talking about.. I think they are the "harvest Gold"

Those are neat, Woofens. I remember those. I have some things from my grandmother but they're all downstairs in storage right now. Still can't manage the stairs very well yet.
I can't get my camera to download pics today. I do have some lovely pieces in mom's curio cabinet that my grandmother left me.

Cold outside today. Low 30s. Off from work and think I'll do a little shopping.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks Kwan :)

I had to do some stuff in town this AM, home now, and glad LOL I hate going to town during Christmas shopping season. I do 95% of my shopping for the holidays online. I don't deal well with the crowds.. I get a bit to angry for my liking, so I try not to go out unless I have to

Janis

(Zone 7a)

Oh boy, do I know what your saying. Or as a friend of mine says...I'm picking up what you're putting down! LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Yeah, me too! I hate those ugly crowds! Christmas shopping was so much fun back "in the olden days" but all these mad shoppers have taken all the fun out of it! Fortunately, we don't have that many to shop for any more. Once the kids grew up, we just started buying for the grandkids. It would have been way too expensive to buy for all the adults too. The grown kids liked the idea too because it relieved them of having to buy for all the adults in the family---much easier on the budget!

(Zone 7a)

Could somebody please buy me earplgs for Xmas? The guy across the street has been using his compessor and drills ALL day. It'sa okay when I have the telly on but, oh boy, if it's quiet like now? But, at least, he's turned the radio either off or down.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Ha, ha, ha--Kwan. When I first read your post above, I thought it said "earpigs" and I thought "What on earth are earpigs" LOL then I looked again and realized you meant "earplugs" Ha, ha ha!

(Zone 7a)

Earpigs! LOL Too good! Better check my spelling next time! LOL I'm not gonna fix 'cuz it's too funny as it is.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Mornin all..... its too quiet in here. I got fresh coffee, and cinnamon rolls :)

Well, Jess (the girls that is helping me with the housework and the like) came over yesterday and finished the paint in Jeff's room. So now we just have to hang the border and the curtains. I think she is coming to finish the girls rooms paint today.

Went to the eye doc yesterday AM, got my prescription updated and new frames picked out, so in a couple weeks, I"ll actually be able to see again LOL

I got the email from KitchenAid, my mixer is on its way :) Got a couple packages of the kids stuff too, just got to keep it hidden.

Now the pressure is on to find the 4 wheelers and dirt bike. Went yesterday and looked at a couple that are Chinese made, but was very unhappy with them..... but on the other hand, paying between $500 and $1000 each for them to learn on and crash is better than spending between $1500 and $3000, for them to crash, right? And then we have to buy the helmets, chest protectors, boots, etc, that they will need. Sigh. Mommy wants a four wheeler too!!

Oh, wait, Mommy got a car. Dang.... maybe next year LOL So how is everyone?? its to Quiet!

(Zone 7a)

Woofens, good morning! I slept in this morning. We were out late last night. Went to dinner. A very nice Italian place called Buca De Beppo. Mmm... We had the veal and baked apple for dessert. Both of us were so stuffed, we almost fell asleep on the way home. We had to keep talking to keep each other awake! LOL

Now I have to clean out the office here at home. Ugh! Junk everywhere! We have an appraisor coming next week, so we want it cleaned out before then. AND family coming for Christmas. So they don't see what messy people we REALLY are! LOL

Cold outside again today but not as cold as yesterday. We might get a little sun later. That would be nice. I could let the cats out.

DH brought me these last night.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey Kwan, those are beautiful! I can't get roses :( I'm so allergic to them I itch if they are close to me. Can't even have them across the room.

Sounds like you had a very nice dinner :)

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Ooo, pretty bouquet--was it a special occasion, or is he just a great guy?
Woofens, there'd be no use having a pretty purple KitchenAid mixer if ya can't see to use it. LOL I'm bad about putting off getting new glasses, so I can't talk. I could use bifocals, but I make do with dollar store reading glasses.
As for Christmas shopping, I do most of mine online or from catalogs, 'cause I hate the crowds and waiting in long lines.

(Zone 7a)

Both, KyWoods! MY B-day and he's a great guy! LOL He brings me stuff all the time. As he says, "Just because."
