I made it! :) Thanks for the new thread, Kwan! :) I have DSL, but it does get old having to scroll all the time. :(

(Zone 7a)

I just grab the bar on the right and ZIP!, I'm there! LOL The banana and peanutbutter Reeses are new. I've only seen them in a couple of places.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Ya, I do that, too, but it still takes a while sometimes! LOL
I just came across this on here and think it is soooooooooo worth passing it along if someone happens to miss the thread.

Get that hottub repaired-you will be so glad you did. ; ) I had pie for breakfast all weekend. Yummy! I have actually noticed that eating more healthy tastes better. I mean when I go back and eat some of the things that used to taste so good, I think why? But not chocolate, I do love that. I never really give up chocolate! As for adding up receipts I do that. I am a bookkeeper and I always kept track of them as improvements to our home. I have always gotten the $ back in the sale of a home too! So I keep track just because it makes me feel good to know I enjoyed planting so much and then got the money back. My slant on it anyhow.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

DH loved my ugly cherry pie so much he brought me stuff to make another one! LOL

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

misty, that was wonderful. I am drying my eyes as I type this. Will send on to others, Thanks for sharing that one.

(Zone 7a)

Yes, thanks! I'm sure everybody know someone in the military. I have BIL in the Nat'l Guard. Our HR manager's DH is over in Iraq right now. He won't be home until...I want to say January. He's a medic. Don't envy THAT job.

And WOO HOO on the cherry pie!

I hope they are able to keep it bumped so others that don't get it in the forums have the opportunity to share it as well! I know I have sent it all the way to Maryland, California, and North Carolina, and one of my friends will be sending it to Virginia, and many other places, so I suspect it will get around to many, and not a dry eye around!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

OMG, can we make all the commercials for toys and what not go away???????????????
All I hear is-Mommy, I want that, I want that!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh My Gosh,
I usually don't spread links at work...This Christmas one I am sending...as soon as I stop crying.
Be back in a bit.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Here is a story that was posted on there as well. More tears to follow!

I need everything, too! :)

Another sobbering thought... what christmas is all about!!

An Adventure With Grandma!

I remember my first Christmas adventure with Grandma. I was
just a kid. I remember tearing across town on my bike to
visit her on the day my big sister dropped the bomb: "There
is no Santa Claus," she jeered. "Even dummies know that!"

My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled
to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me.
I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the
truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed
with one of her world-famous cinnamon buns. I knew they
were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be
true.

Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between
bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me. "No
Santa Claus!" she snorted. "Ridiculous! Don't believe it.
That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes
me mad, plain mad. Now, put on your coat, and let's go."

"Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished
my second world-famous, cinnamon bun.
"Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one
store in town that had a little bit of just about every-
thing. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me
ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. 'Take this
money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs
it. I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and
walked out of Kerby's.

I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with
my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by
myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people
scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few
moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-
dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to
buy it for.

I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my
neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my
church. I was just about thought out, when I suddenly
thought of Bobby Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and
messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's
grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew
that because he never went out or recess during the winter.
His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he
had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't
have a cough, and he didn't have a coat. I fingered the
ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby
Decker a coat!

I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It
looked real warm, and he would like that. "Is this a
Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter
asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. "Yes," I re-
lied shyly. "It's ... for Bobby." The nice lady smiled at
me. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag
and wished me a Merry Christmas.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in Christmas
paper and ribbons (a little tag fell out of the coat, and
Grandma tucked it in her Bible) and write, "To Bobby, From
Santa Claus" on it -- Grandma said that Santa always
insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's
house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever
officially one of Santa's helpers.

Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and
she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his
front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa
Claus," she whispered, "get going."

I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the
present down on his step, pounded his doorbell and flew back
to the safety of the bushes and Grandma. Together we waited
breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open.
Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.

Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent
shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes.
That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa
Claus were just what Grandma said they were: ridiculous.
Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.

I still have the Bible, with the tag tucked inside: $19.95.

(Zone 7a)

Love that story. Always have. Somehow we have to be reminded that giving is year-round, not just now.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

So true, Kwanjin. Just goes to show that some tend to forget that, other than around the Holidays. :(

(Zone 7a)

Misty, did you ever get that door on your greenhouse? (Not to change to subject.)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Yes mam, I FINALLY did, the other night when it was freezing, nasty cold! DH went out to the wood shop and he and my son worked on it together. Well, til his Dad decided to show up at 8:45 to take him and his brother for Thanksgiving. Although, Oldest son had already left cause he was sick of waiting..........Oh, another VERY long story!

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, I ordered my Christmas present today :)) http://shopkitchenaid.com/product_detail.asp?HDR=search&T1=KTO+KSM150PSGP and yes, it really is that purple!! Now I have to use it all the time or I'll feel really guilty about spending that much money on something LOL

We went to Lowe's last night to look at flooring and to get the rest of the kids paint. I was really disappointed in their selection of vinyl tile flooring. Nothing that was even close to what I want :( They had a white with blue that I loved, but I need white with green. I'm doing the kitchen in a Tuscany type grapes and grapevine motif. That is why I ordered the purple mixer. I wanted a pale green to match the walls, but none of the greens were close. I picked up about 2 dozen paint swatch cards last night, all in various shades of pale green. Now I gotta decide on one, so I can start getting the other stuff. I'm so glad that I can finally do my house like I want.

Ok, had the kids watch the video with me... the one you all posted above. I've been trying so hard to make them understand why our soldiers are over there. None of them remember 9/11, except of course the 17 yr old.

I forgot to call the ENT today, I have to do that. Its been 3 weeks now that I haven't been able to talk. I was supposed to call them last month, but with moving I forgot all about it, until I got pharyngitis for the 5th time since August. :(( I don't know if flying to Iowa and back had anything to do with this, but its kinda funny that I never had this until I flew out there and back. And now 5 times in what 3 months? Also got to make dentist and eye appts for me and the kids. And do Christmas cards, and make an appt for the kids Christmas pics.. LOL I really need to make a list of stuff I need to do. But then I'll lose my list LOL

OH and I am so mad at JC Penneys!!!! We ordered from them Thursday night, for Christmas and for Tori and Jeff's birthdays. We choose express shipping for the birthday gifts, since Jeff's birthday is Wednesday. $27 for 2 day shipping. Well, the stuff we ordered that was regular shipping came today, and the express stuff hasn't come yet. GRRR

Well, hope you are all well, it has been rainy all day today, we need it but its depressing :( All gray and yucky outside. The temps are good (57 right now) but it feels colder than that.

Gonna go eat dinner!
hugs
Janis

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I haven't opened the link that made y'all cry yet--I don't wanna cry right now, maybe later. Loved the story about Bobby's Christmas coat! I wanna hear more things like that on the news, rather than the horrors that abound.
And I love hot and spicy food--clears my sinuses! I like it so hot it makes me sweat. LOL
A purple kitchenaid mixer? I would sure be "grapeful" to have that--enjoy it!

(Zone 7a)

Weather has been good to us here, but tomorrow is a different story. Supposed to snow. Hope it's not TOO bad.

Woofens, LOVE the purple! And I would demand the money for express shipping back.

Good for you, Misty.

KyWoods, ROTFLOL!!! Good one!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

You won't believe it but I just organized my seeds! :) DH went to garage and I asked him what he was looking for, he just said something, well, he came in with a BIG file box and said would you PLEASE organize your seeds?! LOL
I feel better now! :)

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning everyone! (Yawwwwwwwwwwnn LOL) I stayed up too late last night.

Thanks for the compliments on the mixer. It sure is purple. I got really lucky on it too.... it is the only one they have at that price, because it is discontinued. All the others are $279. Usually my luck doesn't run that well. The only one on closeout, and in the color I want? YEA ME LOL

We are gonna demand the money back on the shipping. I just checked online, its scheduled to be delivered this morning. We are having everything delivered to the station where Mike works, and it can all be stored there until XMas. So I don't have to worry about where to hide everything.

Its 37 and gray and dreary here this AM. Am supposed to go get the headlight and brake light in my TrailBlazer replaced this morning, but I have a feeling I'll crawl back in bed when I get back from taking the kids to the bus stop. I should go straight to the station and get it done, but boy are those flannel sheets calling my name :)

Will check in later
Hugs
Janis

(Zone 7a)

Good morning all. (Yawn from me too.) Coffee in hand, I begin my day. Blustery outside. 38 degrees and snow on the way.

Gotta head to work. (sigh) Haven't heard anything about the job. Probably won't unitl next week. Still hurrying and waiting.

Concert tonight, so I won't check in until tomorrow. Have a good day.

Kwanjin

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

That concert will be great I bet. Mannheim right? I just put their Christmas CD on to play. Congrats on the mixer Woofens. I love mine. It is plain ole white! LOL! Did you see the Oprah show where she gave away the favorites show? It was fun to see how happy they were when they got a Kitchenaid. She picked it because her cooks say it is their fav. I have made pizza every week for almost 30 years. Since I got it I don't knead the dough by hand. So I do use it every week! I love that pouring spout too. Mine didn't come with one and I was always wiping flour off the cabinets before I got it . When my Mom died I asked Dad if he would give hers to my dd. He said he would think about it, then he remarried and the new wife loves it! LOL! I told him he must have kept it to win her over! ; )

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

I don't watch Oprah (mainly because we don't get local channels on our DISH) but I had heard about that show. I wanted mine because of my shoulder, I just cannot stir stings like I used to. I plan on using it for cookie doughs and everything!

Would love to be at that concert tonight!!

Janis

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone! Just had to jump in here with all the talk about the mixers!
I live close to Greenville, Ohio where the Kitchenaid mixers are made!!
We also have a Kitchenaid store in Greenville. Love to go in that place! And did you all know...if your mixer gets out of adjustment, Kitchenaid will re-adjust it for you?
I have had mine for quite a while, and love it. But I would like to have one of the bigger, industrial type! I was just in their store the other day looking at them...hint hint...Santa!!!!

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Marcy! I didn't know that they were made in OH until I ordered mine. I was really glad to see that. Where is Greenville? (what big town is it near?) I'm up by the WV panhandle.

Janis

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

It is so nice here today it is unreal! I was even able to turn the heat off in the green house and open the door! And it is still showing around 80 in there!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh, I want to share this with all of you! :)

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Misty....love that!! I had seen that years ago..somewhere, and forgotten it. Thanks for posting it again!
Woofens...I thought everyone knew where Greenville was....LOL!
Greenville is about an hour NW of Dayton....near the Indiana border.
It is also the home of Annie Oakley, famous for her gun shooting skills.
I am about ten miles south of it...small town of New Madison.
I was through the area you are talking about this past summer. Beautiful country there!!!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

You are quite welcome, Marcy! I thought it was a beauty! :)

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I love that piece about how to garden--excellent advice! Manheim Steamroller is terrific, but I thought Kwan's concert was Trans Siberian Orchestra? Either would be an exciting show. I didn't know Annie Oakley was from Ohio--I used to live in a little suburb of Cincinnati called Oakley. Wonder if it was named for her? I would've thought she was from the "wild, wild west". I always learn something new everytime I come to DG!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Yep she was! They have a bronze statue of her up in the town. Also have an Annie Oakley festival every summer at the fairgrounds. I have a friend here that is a cousin to her.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I think Annie became famous by coming west? DUH! I did get the concert wrong. Senior moment for me again! Did anyone see Oprah give away more Kitchenaids today. Lots of fun.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I was telling my mother recently that we have just GOT to get on the Oprah show! Lucky folks! Speaking of senior moments, AARP has been sending me mail since right before my 50th birthday last year. My Dad said they only useful benefit to joining is the magazine, and I read his. Any other thoughts on that?

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

I heard that their insurance was discounted. But after joining, my dh didn't want to leave State Farm since they have been wonderful to use for so many years. So I never checked on the costs. I didn't join again.

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Renee'....the only thing I really see with them..is if you travel a lot...which we don't. They have lots of discounts at hotels..motels...etc.
So I don't really know if it is of value to belong or not???? We do...but have never used anything.
