Beautiful sunset! that would make a lovely painting ...
Which one do you want to try first traci?

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

contemporary Christmas please.

london England, United Kingdom

Contemporary Christmas
This is a dramatic but quick and simple to create for the festive season.
Materials
Clear plastic double tray
two blocks coloured foam, red and purple
2/3 Phormium tenax leaves
6 gold cones on long sticks
4 Cornus alba
2 stems holly
7-9 red Gerbera
2 gilded lotus heads
few stems of Equisetum
decorative pins
Method
1. Cut the red foam in half and place either side of the purple foam in the long tray. You will need to soak the foam well, unlike the green foam this foam will take about 15 mins.
2. Pin the Equisetum onto the front of the foam.
3. Place the Phormium leaves in the centre, and then the lovely red Gerberas so that they are facing at slightly different angles. They look much more interesting that way.
4. Position one stem of holly and a few guilded cones at either end of the red foam.
5. Place a lotus seedhead down onto the foam to get a neat finish and cover the stem ends.
6. Insert a few red cornus stems in between the groups to create overall harmony.

and don't worry if you haven't got all the exact materials, improvise, like when you're cooking and haven't got all the ingredients!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Hey girl, I have used paper towels and rubber bands, and goodness knows what else to make stuff work. lol.

london England, United Kingdom

I might try that one myself! why not....
no coloured foam so?
no Phormium so?
no lotus heads so?
no gerbera so?

Technicalities my dear!!!!!!!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I just really read it and this should be VERY interesting to see what I come up with. lol.

london England, United Kingdom

me too!! see you back here with above mentioned display sometime soon ish!!
Got to go Christmas shopping sometime!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Ta!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Ok, a little more gaudy then I expected, but I had limited items to work with (that is my excuse and I am sticking to it. lol) Rolled wet foam in glitter, destroyed some unknown plant for leaves, used fake berries and gold thingy, and marbles and leaves to cover the horrid bottom. I used a 6" wide piece of foam, as I didn't have enough stuff to make a larger one. So.....here goes.....it may be a little bright, so watch your eyes....

Darn that is large, let's see if this is better.

Traci,
I don't think it's gaudy and I think your first attempts are beautiful in form.
I'm going to the floral district this Saturday to buy supplies. Thanks for the supply list.

Terri, Do flowers submerged in water last as long as the flowers out of the water?

Don't worry, I can serve tea, coffee, booze, whatever you girls want.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Booze here please. I just looked at it again and the foam is only 4" wide. I keep coming up with justifications. Thanks for the comments.

What is the flower district. It sounds like a road in Heaven.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Oh, learned last night that a hot glue gun comes in handy. Mine is an el cheapo, but it worked.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Sorry I kind of disappeared. My shopping is almost done. . .I hope to have some time left to gift wrap attentively. Thanks so much for all the comments on the bridal bouquet. Traci, I will definitely do your wedding flowers. . .NO CHARGE. . .when you DO decide to. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Will post more pics when I have some time.

Terri, thanks for the layouts. Wow, those are gorgeous arrangements. I wish I could have some time to try one of those. Traci did an excellent job with hers. OMG, I can't believe she is already at this level. Do you have a trophy to lend her for the month? Not exactly like the magazine photo, but that's what makes it so GREAT! She used the photo only as a guide and the rest is just her own creativity. WOW WOW WOW. Traci, stop eavesdropping. . .you did an awesome job girl!

Hi Shar! Welcome Diggerette! Hope you will enjoy yourself here.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I think I heard you speed talking, Karma. You have been a busy girl lately. Glad to know you will do my flowers. Can you marry yourself. Kind of like a reclaiming of who you were. I, Traci, take the, Old Traci, to once again be the person I was. What kind of flowers would you use?

Thanks Karma. It just seems so gaudy because the gold thingys and berry thingys are fake plastic. That is what I don't like. But it was 3 in the morning and I couldn't go rob the yard as I couldn't see it. lol. I really do appreciate you saying such. I will pat myself on the back for one thing. The glitter on the floral foam. I thought that was pretty swift.

Are you going to do the course with us?? It will be very slow going, as I will not be doing it when I have Teensy. So, there will be plenty of time. I get her back on Sunday. Whoo Hoo!!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Hmmm the kind of flowers are totally up to you. . .But being that you're a bulb girl, I see tulips and hydrangeas everywhere! Marry yourself in late winter/early spring. Bouquets of tulips and bear grass with lots of hydrangeas/viburnum. Maybe lilac too? Gosh, I want to do a spring wedding. I've been requested to do one in April, but dh will still be in school. . .so I haven't answered her yet.

I know what you mean about plasticy stuff. I can't tell by your pics. I'm real selective with buying artificial stuff. The flowers have to look extremely real. I never buy from walmart, kmart, or even michaels. I like the ones from hobby lobby (they're almost always on sale 50% off too), pier 1, tjmax, marshalls, and target at times. And I never buy them regular price.

Not sure what course you're talking of. . .will have to rescan the posts. Happy to hear you will have her back Sunday. Does that mean you will have her for christmas? I can't imagine how much you must miss her. And I can't imagine how much she misses you.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Traci, your arrangement is lovely. You did good!, Little Girl! Yayyyyy for Traci.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi All,
Traci, the floal district in New york is about 4 streets long and 2 Aves wide. It has wholesale and retail floral stores. There are store like this one.I found this picture on the web. The district use to be bigger and it is shrinking rapidly.
I'll try to make a version of Contemporary Christmas, too. This is going to be fun.

Hi Everyone...
Traci WOO HOO!! Amaising and fabulous!
This is your best arrangement so far, I think it's really great. You have used so many creative ideas, love the glitter, ribbon and petals everywhere! Well done ... trophy on it's way to you!

Hi Karma, we have missed you! nice to see you back.

Adele, I'm so glad you are going to join in with our cafe! It looks like you are going to have a great choice of flowers and foliage from those flower markets. To answer your question about flowers being underwater, thay last longer out, with only the stems in water. I usually only use old flowers underwater, make arrangements, take pictures and then dry them out for other projects.I hardly ever throw plant material away!!
I'm just calling in with a fresh brew. YES it's my yellow teapot AGAIN!!! I wish you kind ladies would make some teapot arrangements sometime, this is the FLOWERPOT cafe and we need fun teapots!! Please Darlings....
I haven't done the contemporary yet!!!!

Oh, sorry!! Meant to tell everyone thank you.

Karma, I think you got into my mind on my wedding to myself. Tulips and hydrangea are two of my absolute fave's, of course the ones in lilac/blue. Great job. Now what kind of dress do you wear to a wedding to yourself. Antique white, simple, strappy, silky?

Sharran thanks. After today, I am I tired little girl. lol.

Adele, That looks like Nirvana. What fun that would be!! Can't wait to see what you come up with. This is lots of fun and as you can see, they go easy on ya. lol.

Terri, I am blushing and bowing. Of course, the whole sprinkle of flowers and such came from you. I always notice you do that and I like the touch. The best so far?? I really appreciate it and accept the trophy with humility. ;^)

london England, United Kingdom

I can see a whacky style emerging.....love it!!
Thankyou, hardly anyone ever makes me a coffee.............you are kind.......

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Hope you mean Wacky as in good Wacky. I like that!!

I will TRY to do something with the ONE teapot I have tomorrow.

london England, United Kingdom

'cause I mean good wacky, just 'cos I can't spell !!!
A new teapot for the cafe would be good, thankyou.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

LOL. Didn't even notice you misspelled it. Now, what to do with pink pom pom, tiny chinese laterns and yellow gerbers? Could be fun?

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm going to start a new thread, as this one has gotten a bit long. Please get behind me in a single file line and follow to the next thread. No pushing, pinching or breaking line.

Thankyou Traci!
What if the new girl can't find her way to the next cafe ?
Someone keep a look out for her OK?

I haven't got anything good to take to the new cafe!!!!!! too short notice....

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Will help keep an eye out. YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING. Phish!

london England, United Kingdom

Phish...........with nobs on!!

It's your turn to make the tea...Hahahahaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

ok Polly? put the kettle on...

This is too much fun, I must go shopping or we will be walking the streets looking for scraps, with holes in our shoes and snow falling down.............

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Just put newspaper in the bottom of your shoes. I heard that works. My ONLY teapot is an olive green. I don't have any flowers that would go with it. I will try to think of something, but don't expect a miracle.

Polly? That is my GM name.

london England, United Kingdom

You have leaves and pink pom poms, what's the problem? I suppose your gorgeous pink camelia is out of the question?

GM? no comprende ...
Polly put the kettle on is a nursery rhyme, surely you know that one!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Nope, don't know that one. I know I'm a little tea pot. Does that count?

The pink pom pom is literally a cheerleading pom pom. The camelia's aren't out, but they would not look good with this pot. Maybe I could cover the teapot with pink glitter. I do have it. lol.

london England, United Kingdom

It would add to your 'glitter series' for sure! or you could make a pattern instead of covering it all.
Fiber optic pom poms, you could wire some of them so they stick up in different directions.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Nope cheap dollar store poms for Teensy. I am working on an idea.
