Yep, critiques for sure!!!!
I was a critic from the first day I got here and had never touched a flower to be arranged. Don't expect any changes. Terri, that is beautiful. I love how the size of the pot is counterbalanced so well with the height of the.....HAHA.
Terri, they send everything to you. You pay for the course and they send the materials. I think it will be loads of fun for all of us. I can take pics of the lesson plan and away we go. It is go at your own pace. I may just use yours, Terri, and pass with flying colors.
Traci you are so funny! ..
Well it's great you get all the materials included, that saves you hours of going around trying to find what you need. I'm looking forward to seeing your creations! and joining in with the fun bits!!!!!!!!
I don't like wiring, so it's a good job Karma is the expert on wedding flowers!
Terriculture, You are my floral design guru. Your work is fantastic!
Terriculture, No joke. I was just browsing the forums when I discovered this one. I'm very impressed with your designs and I want to create similiar floral designs for my home. They are truly inspirational.
Thanks,
Adele
Hi Adele,
Well if you are interested in floral design, you have come to the right forum!
Infact Pupilpropgr (Traci) is starting a floral design course soon and we are all going to join in and learn new things!
Thankyou for your kind comments! Terri
Hey Diggerette, glad you found us. I have never done an arrangement until I found this forum. Through the help of Terri and Karma, I actually have started doing so. Look above and see the link to the course I joined. I am going to do the whole thing on here, so we can learn together.
I splurged last night and bought a few flowers.
Ahhhhhhh, love the minis, Traci....and all the reds.
Thanks Shar. About to give a call to Soulja. Ya'll did fantastic!!
Yep, it's up and running, thanks to her.
Hi Traci,
Nice choice with your flowers, lovely christmasy colours.
Your containers are great! you've got a good variety of shapes and sizes. I especially like the 'uncoventional' ones.!
It sounds like you've got all the equipment to make cool stuff! Thanks for bringing everything in.
Hi Shar, How are you? would you like some shortbread or a mince pie?
I'll be back later !
Ummm....Terri, give me some ideas!!! That was the whole point. lol.
Shortbread, terri, dahlin...please.
and hot tea to go with this dreary rainy very dark day.
Ohhh SORRY!!! .... ummmmmmm lets see,
How about making a little gathering using all your red vases, with the red flowers and foliage, and maybe some gold accessories.
or
Fill up some clear vases with beads or pinecones, or spices, have the foam at the top (hidden) Use your foliage to make an outline for your design, fill in with your flowers, largest at the bottom.
or
The white oblong would be nice make a front facing parallel line
I'll have a look in the magazines I've got and see if I can find some arrangements with containers like yours.
Ok Shar, I will bring that in! I hope someone gives me a new teapot for Christmas, I'm getting fed up with the 2 I've got!!!
Hi Traci, Terri, Karma, Sharron and everyone else,
Thank you for being so warm and welcoming me in. Would anyone like some tea?
I have never arranged flowers before but I'm willing and eager to learn. It looks like a lot of fun. I do plan on taking a basic floral design course at the botanical gardens by my house in Jan.
I have no supplies. What kind of tools do I need?
Terri can you explain what you mean by- use your foliage to make an outline for your design. And what is your favorite kind of teapot?
Traci, Are all these vases for your classwork? The large green vase is a real beauty.
Hi Diggerette,
I'm always up for tea, but ironically, our English friend, Terry doesn't drink it. So, one cup for me.
You are just like me, willing and eager to learn. I have even shown my horrible attempts so they can tell me where I am going wrong. GO FOR IT!!
In my antics of trying this out, I started with paper towels and rubber bands. lol. Here are some things I have bought that I have used once, but very helpful.
Floral foam - the kind you can get wet. Didn't know there were others. Terri would say, "Get Oasis". You can find this and the following other items at Hobby Lobby, Micheals, or whatever big craft store you have in your area.
Floral Tape - waterproof. Tapes down the floral foam
Floral Clay - I know it holds the foam too, but I think there are other uses. TERRI AND KARMA!!!
Floral Wire - No idea on the gauge. It is used to wrap around stems so you can bend them into shape.
Floral picks - Once again, not sure on size. These look like fat toothpicks with wire on them. They make stems longer and stick in the floral foam well.
Sheet moss - I haven't used it yet, but glad I got it. It is used to cover up the foam or whatever so you don't see it.
Floral Pins - holds the sheet moss in place
Now don't laugh, but there is something I forgot the name of so I will try to describe. It is a green tape that you wrap around said picks and such to hide them. I also used it to wrap little flower stems together to make nosegays
Corsage pins - I want these. The long pins with the little pearls on the end.
That is all I know and have probably messed up a lot of it. It sounds like a lot, but these items are very inexpensive. Terri and Karma can give you lots more info. Also, I think there is a thread in cut flowers called floral tool box.
Terrie, would love the foliage answer too and what do you mean by front facing parallel lines? I got the parallel, but front facing?
Finally, the vases are just stuff I have collected over the years. Most aren't even vases. Some of them are olive trays, tea pots, old wall lights, candle holders, Milk of Magnesia old bottles, liquer decantors, sundae ice cream glasses, hurricanes, taper candle holders, baking dishes, etc. Just anything I can find. Shot glasses in cool colors or shapes, trays, and on and on. The funny thing is, I have all these and know I could use them is some fashion, just don't know how. lol.

Hope you take the course with us. I just received a letter in the mail that it is a few short days until my course arrives. I can't wait.
Traci

I wonder where I was when you did the first two Traci? I haven't seen them before, and must say, they are very elegant and beautiful!!!!!! I love the last one, it was for Teensy's birthday, very jolly colours in that one, and GREAT shape.
I simply meant with the parallel, that if it was for a tablecentre, you would mirror the lines on either side. Or if it was front facing it would be positioned infront of a wall or mantlepiece, viewed front only.
Adele, Most florists start their designs with the foliage or greenary first, so this becomes the 'outline' for your designs.
I don't have any (only sympathy tributes) showing step by step. I will do some after christmas.
I found some Christmas arrangements in my flower magazines. Sorry about the glare on some of them, it's the shinny magazine paper (obviously not my photography skills) at fault!!!!!! and if anyone wants the instructions for anything I will post them seperately.. enjoy
