No, it was out of stock, ;-( but I have a white birch lined up and I'm seriously considering that 'Shidava Gold', that'll add some yellow to the mix, (I'm trying your theory on garden management!).

Today's Weather in Your Garden - 6
Well since Shidava was just planted, I can't yet give you the lowdown on the color throughout the year. I believe it's green in the Summer. There are many nice choices for yellow or gold foliage in shrubs or small trees. There is a yellow Barberry, though that is becoming more invasive in NY. One I really love is Spirea thunbergii 'Ogon'. Stays light all year round. Has a beautiful fine foliage - great to pair with a big leafy type of plant. It blooms at the same time the foliage is emerging - real nice effect and the Fall color is great. Here's the PF entry.

There is a yellow Deutzia that's nice. Also a Physocarpus and a Sambucus.
Yes I assumed it was green throughout the summer, and the branches are supposed to stay green in the winter I hear. I like the small leaves/ yellow fall color and the fact it doesn't get too big.
- The Thunbergii is interesting and the point about it not propagating true from seed/sterile makes it more exclusive which I like. Checking out the other 3..., Thanks for the link!
Yes, Shidava's branches are a bright green in Winter.
Good Morning everyone. Weekend is here and next week is a short one. Who else feels like they are running out of time?

37 when I got up this am, Accuweather said a "real feel" of 24. It was a little bit of icy rain on my walk this morning, but that cleared up quickly. Now it's 35.
Ooh - frigid looking, Candyce! 40 and very windy here, but clear and sunny.
For real .....
It's 36* and snowing.
The wind is out of the North - go figure!
It's supposed to snow off and on all day with little accumulation (thank goodness!!)
Don't you just LOVE the photo?
38 Here and rain.....DB lives in the mountain area and is getting 3-5" of the white stuff today.
I bet there's some great photos just lurking up there in the woods with DB!!
Looks like I received a bit over 3/4" of rain yesterday.
Hi all-I posted pics here of snow-etc
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/790875/
My goodness, Candyce, your photos says it all!
It's 47 degrees at 2 pm (Accuweather says "feels like 40") and we've had pretty strong winds all day: WNW at 19 mph, gusting to 28 right now. Barometer 29.48 and going up since the storm of this early morning has passed. Once the clouds are all gone, it's supposed to freeze at night for the next several days.
Temp 44.6°, Wind WNW 19.4mph, WindChill 27°, Baro 29.47↑, Rh 40% Dp 21.8°
Mostly sunny day with gusty winds, Fall Colors in 'full force'.
Hey! How about this!! This morning it was 40 degrees when I got up!!! It didn't take me long to shed my sleeveless summer nightgown!!! LOL ... Of course, I had 2 fans on when I went to bed, so even I was chilly this morning. This was the first morning we didn't eat breakfast out on our patio. And I wore a heavy sweatshirt and windbreaker on our morning walk. I don't think it got out of the 60's today. We saw the Bald Eagle couple flying overhead while we were eating lunch on our front porch. They are so awesome!!
Al - beautiful shot of the sunrise!!
Candyce - it's looking a bit cool, shall we say, up there!!
Celeste - that is some snow total where you are!!
WaterCan - amazing that our morning temps were pretty close! I really like it when it's cool for working outside here. I'm still planting things all over the place! I need to slow down.......with the limited planting areas, what will I do the rest of the winter at this rate???!!! LOL
I cut back my Mexian petunias today and DH put the in cuttings in a vase on the fireplace mantel (Is mantel spelled right??? It looks strange and I'm tired! )
oops - make that Mexican petunias.....told you I'm tired! Retirement really takes it out of you!! LOL
You must be in North Florida DonnieBrook, (above Palm Beach), when I lived in FTL 70° was considered "Freezing", I remember the little old ladies with the 30k mink coats on, the funny part is that they looked like if they needed it! -BTW those were not am temps they were ~4pm EST. We've had some good gusts here today on the island & when the leaves hit you... they sting! but the fall color is so beautiful I dont really care. ☺
The city has a 20% chance of snow tomorrow (sat) night, I figure that gives us about 30% here. We're at 37.4° now with a Windchill of 30°, partly cloudy night with a bright 1/2 moon out. Do you get flocks of green parrots at dust looking for a roosting site? I remember the pelicans also, they always got to my bait before the fish did! - boy those things can dive! - enjoy!
28 here this morning and sunny, the bad part is we won't get any higher than 37 today.
Back to the 20s overnight here again too. All the wind must have brought the cold back, mid 40s for a high and maybe snow flurries this evening.
Yikes, it's chilly out. I had to come in a warm up my hands. The problem with having a social life of any kind is that it interferes with fall clean up! Diggin' up the dahlias, canna and elephant ear. Should have gotten to it two weeks ago.
Sunny / blue skies
Current Temp: 36°F
Humidity: 58%
Wind Speed: W 13 MPH
Barometer: 30.02 in.
Wind Chill: 33°F
Same wind chill out here, Anita, and I'm not budging yet to dig up the rest of the dahlias. Only one left in bloom and still no frost. The Swiss Chard is more beautiful than ever.
40 degrees F but feels like 32; I haven't gone outside yet (9:30 am) to test what it feels like, but that's what weather.com says. Supposed to get up to 48 today, but down to 28 tonight. Crystal clear; sky a pale, cold blue; barometer 30.00 and rising; winds W at 14 mph, gusting to 28. Humidity: 50%.
We're taking care of the grandkids for the weekend and I'm not getting outside to do ANYTHING in the garden--unfortunately-- or maybe fortunately, given the windchill!
40 and breezy here. Starting to cloud up a bit. Might have some wet snow overnight!
Warmest part of the day here, 47° with a windchill of 39°, Baro 29.79↑, Rh 42%, Wind WNW @ 12.7mph, Dp 25.6°
Sunny to the South, hazy to the North. The North is beginning to dominate with clouds rolling in fast.
Got one neighbor in a parka scooping up leaves from his pond and another on a 20ft ladder putting up glass panels on his 2nd story windows. I finished up last week and my Bonsai's stay out for the Winter until ~25°. Though I still have a Redwood in transit and 2 thunbergii shipping on Monday ( @ 1/2 price it was a really good deal!), I'll take pirl's advice and plant them as soon as they arrive.
Our former neighbor planted a Redwood in the late 50's - early 60's and it's huge now. Nothing to compare to CA but it's obviously quite happy here.
WaterCan - No, I'm in south Florida almost as far as you can go without swimming with the gators. LOL I'm on the Gulf Coast on the Caloosahatchee River. We have just had a cold snap. At the moment it's 71 degrees with 43 percent humidity.....very pleasant today. I've been out planting caladiums and cardboard ferns....I need to go back out and get my basil into the herb garden. Hope the snow misses you!
WC - which thunbergii? Louise - cardboard ferns?? Wouldn't those be appropriate for up here now?! Corrugated or plain?
The Gators! I almost forgot about them! - Talk about something with a BAD Temper!!... YIKES!!
Yes VG they're 2 'Ogon's shipping on Monday, they had a very good sale... but I also wanted the Deutzia gracilis 'Chardonnay Pearls', they were unavailable at the time so I talked to a rep and they promised to E-mail me a notific. when they get them in stock in the spring, I'm really looking forward to that one!
I just planted that one. I'll have good shots of the Fall color of the 'Ogon' soon.
Cool, then I can get a good idea of where to place it for max effect!
My DH is in Orlando this weekend. He called to tell me how chilly it was last night.
i told him that snow was forecasted for Sunday here, and he said, o never mind - it's really warm here in Florida!
Relativity!
well, that's one theory...
Funny, WaterCan and Amy!
Victor - yes.....it's a very unusual looking fern........I have no idea how it got that name. I'll get a shot and show you what it looks like.
Well I went to Google images to see it and got cardboard caskets instead!

Funny!
Well, what my neighbor called the cardboard fern is actually the cardboard palm, and after reading about it on plantfiles, those suckers are getting UNPLANTED first thing tomorrow!!! They are highly toxic and a real danger to dogs. With Molly on prednisone and wanting to eat everything in sight, those little seedlings are history! Too bad, because it is a nice looking plant. Guess I'll just go back to my original approach of planting only shrubs etc. that have edible flowers, fruits or berries. Here's a shot of it.....
