It is warming up here........right now it's 70 degrees in my garden with 40 percent relative humidity. Tomorrow should get up to 83 degrees.....window cleaning is in my immediate future! In the house here it's 78 degrees......a bit too warm for me at night, but I like having the windows open. The house traps the heat from the warm afternoons and holds it in. I know, I know......."Shut up, Louise!" LOL
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 6
You'd love it in my house then - it's 64, but maybe not as that is 32 degrees warmer than outside.
Al, I probably asked this before but do Dahlias do as well in containers? I would think they might bloom earlier since the soil in pots warms up faster. Also, they're much easier to dig up.
They do pretty good. The hardest part is to stake them, shorter varieties work better.
Do you find that they bloom sooner?
Not really - about the same unless you start the whole pot inside early.
So the time that the soil is warm is not really a factor then.
You would think it would more, but not that I've ever noticed - average is flowers 75 days from planting.
- wish I had a soil temp meter!
Shouldn't be too money I would think.
Forgot to say: You're welcome Pirlene - glad you weren't swearing my name ;)
Temp 34.8°, Wind NE 0.2mph, Rh 63%, Baro 30.20, Dp 23.8°
Scattered clouds tonight.
My 7ft Dahlias are destined to be history, I don't like flowers I have to get on a ladder to look at! Next year I'm getting the regular 4ft ones! ☺
Wow - unusual for you to be cooler there, WC! 39 here now. Yes, 7 ft is a bit much. They should market them as NBA Dahlias. They need scaffolding, not staking.
Lots of strange weather this year VG. Georgia was running out of water last week and DonnieBrook was in the 40s in South Florida!
☺ Lettuce and chocolate!! My kind of diet!!
Terribly chilly this morning!!
It's just 17* with a slight breeze going on, but there's no wind chill effect.
Winds out of the NE, though.
The temps might break through to the 40* mark today.
And, it's supposed to be mostly sunny today.
WC - we use our compost thermometer to measure soil temperatures. Agway has/had them.
Al - two neighbors constantly raved about the dahlias: so did I.
Candyce - me, too! Maybe I should market it.
40 here now. Chance of showers. We could have used all these showers in the summer and I could have used a day off now and then. Still a dozen dahlias waiting for me to dig and store.
19 here this morning, clear, crisp and cold with a high of 38 degree's expected.
Yahoo! SNOW!!! It is the best kind, half an inch of sap-like snow that doesn't stick to the sidewalks and roads,no wind, just that crisp, clear as a bell pure air.32F. I am so outta here to go play outside:)
Only 32, but it didn't feel that cold on my walk earlier.
Snow mixed with rain in NYC today!
Yuck! Woke up to wet snow - I'll post a pic later. 33 right now. Not sticking to the roads.
I think I've heard that in Sedona, AZ, San Marcos, TX, Daytona Beach, FL and even here on Long Island!
LOL Im not surprised Pirl, I think any place there is a drastic change of weather can say it!

All the way up to 26 now and the overcast has given way to sunshine and partly cloudy. A steady light breeze is making the tree tops dance a little. All and all a nice November day, let's face it we have had a lot worse this time of year so I'm happy with and appreciate the mid 40s for the expected high. Even warmer the next few days. :)
Compost Thermometer...Good idea!!
Temp 43.1°, Wind NE 12.1 mph, Windchill 30.2°, Rh 58%, Baro 30.23↑, DP 29.3°
Overcast, no sign of any precip here yet.
Got the day off, was going to rake leaves but it looks really raw out there. I may just stay in and work inside, seems like a futile effort with this wind...
I survived the dahlia digging. Only one left and it can stay as long as it blooms. It wasn't my favorite and I have a duplicate of it so it has the job to greet me each morning until frost comes along.
If it ever does!
Pretty, Victor, I can see where that was a relaxing spot earlier in the year.
Really lovely, Victor.
Thanks - it is, especially with the waterfall going. The sound is so relaxing. I haven't decided yet if I will do fish again. If so, it will just be Goldfish - Koi are too crazy and destructive!
Not a bad day today, it did reach 43, with some sun and clouds. Lots of raking done. And cooked a pot of pasta fagioli.
Ooh - yummy, Deb!
Destructive? How?
They decimate most pond plants. They have even pulled in three gallon pots I had on the rocks and devoured the plant! Came out to find a floating empty pot and a dirt cloud a few times.

wow
I had absolutely no idea they'd even be interested in pond plants. Selling the plants to people with koi seems to be far too much temptation for the koi.
Could you get a few remote controlled koi - the imitation plastic kind?
I have two! Bought them for the pool but might have to use them in the pond! They kill the batteries very fast.
