Are ya'll ready for S-N-O-W?

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

It was really cold here today and the wind was up again. I went Christmas shopping with my DIL and grandbaby. We had a good time except for when we had to leave a store or get out of the van. :) I think I'm going to stay indoors for a few days and warm up. The cold wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the wind.

There are a few things I should have got done outside but I'm not going to attempt it now. Each year I start doing fall chores earlier and earlier and it seems I still find a thing or two I should have done but nothing earth shattering. I had wanted to wrap up my hydrangea and my magnolia bush but they'll have to fend for themselves. If they don't make it they'll be replaced with something tough. ha ha ha

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Its bitter cold and windy here too and snowflakes whipping by the windows
I tried to get the peacock inside the GH tonight but scared him so will have to try tomorrow and then call his owner(that really doesnt seem to care)to come and get him b4 it gets to darn cold for the lil dude!

You see the mess thats suppose to be coming Sat & Sun. snow then ice!
i havent even started shopping yet!
sigh!

I had 2 days off of work so I shopped like crazy, which probably wasn't a good thing since I have a bad chest cold. Went to the doc this morning thinking I might have bronchitis but he says no, just a bad virus.
Left the docs office the started making the rounds of my fav stores and boutiques looking for Christmas decorations of which I buy a few new ones every year.
Got the grandkids their Xmas clothes at Target today and snooped around TJ Maxx. Still have to get the g-kids some toys.
Found this awesome sterling silver spoons and forks wind chimes I HAD to buy at Frederik Meijer Garden gift shop.
Photo doesn't do it justice.

That Peacock will freeze to death one of these nights if he doesn't get some shelter. Maybe you should call animal control on the owner.

poor mr peacock...its to cold for him.i agree about the animal control.. yes its very cold around here also. we didnt get all the snow whoever got on thursday night. there are a whole lot of two hour delays. no more public schoolers around this house only college. i really like the windchimes cottage. ive never been to fredrick meijer gardens. ill have to go sometimes maybe a day trip for us huh??? that would be a blast. i actually did start my xmas shopping this week i used to be done by now:(. oh well im going to hope fully get a gift card for my son from the px on his base i can order them on line kinda cool huh? well i have the day off and if i can help it im staying in all day.... i think i will curl up with the dog. have a great friday everyone.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Well in my little part of Mi. we haven't had any of the white stuff to account for anything. We had some mixed with rain, but thats it.
I still have some pots and jugs to wash up and get ready for WSing and starting indoors. We started some of our shopping yesterday. We got the grandsons and Jlyn :o) DH volunteered us to do the kids Christmas shopping for the church, so we will have lots of fun next week :o) He loves the toy department. lol I bought a 4ft fiber optic tree yesterday and have it up already, This is way to soon for me, I usually wait til at least a week b4 Christmas to put it up, but it is sooo pretty. It was on sell at lowes for 33 bucks so I couldn't pass that up. DH broke my other one I had last year by dropping it out of the attic in the garage, smashed it to bits :(

Dori I agree, I would call animal control b4 he freezes to death. You must be feeding him really good for him to stick around :o) and not want to go home.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Different lookin wind chime-how does it sound? Hope you feel better soon cottage rose
No body is sick here(knock on wood)but im sure we will get a turn with kids in school!

The animal control was here this summer trying to catch him-they failed
His owner was here and said he would be back "sometime" to catch him.
I was in the GH with him last night but we both went for the door at the same time and i was in the lead and then he JUMPEd through the open door and out before me! Im going to get out there today and toss the food in the GH for him and then sneak up on him while he is in there. The owner said they can take temps down to 0, well it was in the teens here last night and i dont see a warm up!

Woke up to a dusting of snow here and its still coming down-snow storm warning for the weekend!
I cant wait till My son gets that job in standish, not as many miles to drive in bad weather
He works 3rd shift and gets to drive in so much messy weather, he calls everyday after work and i talk him from Mt Pleasant to bay city! fone should ring anytime now :)

stay warm and safe this weekend

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Almost 2" of the white stuff here. Sure looks and feels like winter.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Woke up to a couple inches of snow on the ground this morning. It is COLD outside. The sun is shining now. I need to get a coat on and trek out to the mailbox and get the mail. That is the only thing I miss about living in the city. I used to get my mail delivered to a box on the house on the front porch. :) I don't mind the walk here when it's nice but dread it when it's icy and cold.

I love the windchimes. I've never seen any like that. Very different. Are you hanging them inside or outside?

Have a good weekend everybody. It's supposed to be nasty weather here. I hope DH gets home tomorrow afternoon before all h*ll breaks loose. :)

Brenda

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

We got dumped on last night...must be 2-3 inches of fluffy snow out there. Still windy. I stayed home from work today to rest and hopefully feel better. Nice day to be inside.

The wind chimes tinkle nicely.
I got them for outside but its so windy I may just wait
to hang them out next spring-fall. They are waxed to resist tarnishing.
The creators of these sliver wind chimes have a website...
Google "Tempest in a Teapot" Some of the pieces are quite elaborate with real silver teapots, goblets etc. The are SO cool and would make an awesome Xmas gift for folks who love wind chimes or garden art.

The owner of the Peacock sounds like an idiot.
WHY do people buy animals they aren't willing to care for???
Grrr!!!
I would call Animal Control again....AND call the owner and chew him out and tell him to come get his bird!
As for withstanding sever weather they can IF they have shelter,
plenty of food and water daily.
A predator will eventually finish him of if the weather doesn't first.

1/2in of snow here but it is blowing like crazy

Brenda i have my 14yr old grab the mail when he gets off the bus
or bid on ebay and have the mailgal bring it to the house LOL

the peacock guy had back surgery n radiation treatment this summer
said he would be back, but im tired of waiting
animal control is useless-they set a trap for him-this bird isnt that dumb!!!
They were out this summer tryin to catch it
I can get him in the GH and then get the guy to come get him or maybe the other guy down the rd that takes care of his birds!!!
wish me luck tonight!!!!

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Good luck Dori! I'd hate to see such a beautiful bird die. It would be nice if he'd just stay in the greenhouse for the winter. Maybe if you made him a roost or bed in there with food and water he'd just stay.

Oh, I order plenty on Ebay. I do most of my shopping on there. I get packages all the time and it really ticks off the mail lady. She told me one day I needed to get a bigger mailbox. Shoot, I bought just about the biggest one I could find. Really cute. It's made Amish and is a red barn. When she has to bring me a package she comes flying up the driveway honking and honking her horn. She doesn't even give me time to get to the back door hardly. Last year I tipped her $25 in a card but this year she's getting nothing. I just don't appreciate her attitude. It is her job to bring packages to the door. It's not my job to run out the door and go out to her car to meet her and get the packages so she doesn't have to exit her vehicle. At least I don't think it's my job. I've never lived rural before so maybe I'm in the wrong. Please correct me if I am.

Guess I'll trudge out there and retrieve the mail now. It's bound to have run by now.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

you are right- I use to carry mail! dont stone me it was part time!

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey Loon..our postal carrier is a lazy a$$ and a brainless wonder.
I could write a book about all the stupid stuff shes done
with our packages and mail.
Complaining to the postmaster has been futile.
You aren't required to run out when she honks...its her job to set a package too large for your mail box on the porch and they're suppose to leave a note in your box that they've done so.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL.............you guys crack me up!!

This lady had made so many mistakes it isn't even funny. One day I got a package in the mailbox and I brought it in and tore it open. I had ordered some stuff on Ebay and figured it was a sweater. Well, it was some men's shorts! At first I thought the ebay seller had made a mistake and then I retrieved the wrapping from the trash and it was supposed to go to an address on a different road! I was so embarassed that I'd ripped it open. I just put it back the best I could and drove over and shoved the man's shorts into his mailbox. :)

Just yesterday I had a lady come to my door with a great big package in her arms. She lives at leat a mile from me and had gotten my package. It was a heavy space heater. This time it wasn't the mail carrier but the Fed-X guy. I guess they can't read the name and address. I'm practically the only one on my whole road. There is only one other family even living on this road so I don't understand how they can make these kinds of mistakes. I do know they sort our mail down in Saginaw or so I'm told. Heck, I didn't get this many errors when I lived in the city downstate with many more people per block.

LOL Dori we won't stone you!! I'm sure you never made any mistakes on your route. You were a good mail carrier right?

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Grass and roads here were snow covered this morning, but the sun came out and things melted off the roads - not the grass. We were supposed to go up to Rockford shopping, but since the schools there were closed we decided to cancel. Visited the local coffee shop and then went out to a local chinese place for lunch.

In the afternoon I drove into GR for a bit of shopping.

If you've never been to Meijer Gardens...you must go! I went last summer (again....) and took the tram ride around the gardens. They give you a talk and it is most interesting....Anyone who wants to go next summer, let me know and I'll go with you!!

Our post office is decent ...other than when they have a sub..then all heck breaks loose. We have the same address...exactly... as another family that is 5 miles from us. The only difference is we are in different counties. Our regular postman catches most of the errors, although about a couple times a month we get their mail. However the UPS and Fed X guys are awful. I get pkgs that are not ours at least 2x a week. And before Christmas it is down right disgusting...

I tried calling UPS and FedX and get the major run around....'no mam, it isn't possible to have the same address'....sorry sir..we DO. It goes on and on and on. Usually I just call the family, but sometimes they are so ungrateful that I call UPS and tell them to come pick up the package. It take several extra days when I do that. I called the family yesterday and left a message and today there is another pkg on the front porch...Oh woe is me....which reminds me...I need to get off here and call them.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I GOT HIM I GOT HIM!!!
I will call the owner tomorrow to come get him in the daylight!
:( goodbye my feathered friend :(

think he would make a deal to bring him back for next summer?

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Dori he might make a deal to leave him there now from the sounds of it LOL
I realy like our mail lady Karen shes as excited as I am when I get boxes from flower places she all ways wants to see what "WE GOT" Sanford is small so every one knows just about every one she belongs to the same Eagles club I do so shes all the time telling everyone about the plants "WE" get (we being her and I) I think its funny and shes deliverd most of the plants I have for the last 20 yrs so shes seen a lot of changes around here!!!!!

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Dori,

I'm so glad you got the bird. How did you do it? Is he in the greenhouse? I hope the owner comes to get him. It would be nice if you could keep him again next summer. He is such a pretty bird.

Gloria, that sounds like a really nice mail lady you got there. Our substitute mail lady is really nice. She's friendly and just loves my dogs. Wish I could keep her all the time. :)

I sure hope my husband gets home tomorrow before the snow hits the fan. :) He should be home by 3 p.m. and I don't think the worst of the storm is to start till after 8 tomorrow night. If ya'll hear anything different let me know.

Good weekend to hunker down and stay indoors. I broke out the low carb sugar free hot chocolate today. :)

Brenda

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

I was in the basement cleaning when I heard a noise upstairs. The dog even looked up, so I thought I wasn't crazy. I went upstairs to the door to find fresh snow on the rug and my mail and a package on the table by the door.
Is this service? This is the reg guy, last time, and I posted somewhere, the lady left the package in the garage, near the skinned deer. Poor lady. Hope I didn't scare her too much.

Dori, glad you got that bird. Getting too cold out for him. And he is a beauty. I agree, some people should not own pets. You are great to take care of him and care.

Plainwell, MI(Zone 5b)

Well if you live in lower MI we are in for a treat today, snow warnings all over the state. Coldest morning yet. Im so glad I only live a mile from my job. It only takes two mins. to get home. I do walk alot of the times when its warmer, but alittle bit to nippy for me know. How is everyones Christmas shopping and plans going? I cant believe it Im almost done. I got a really nice Columbia coat on line for my daughter, usually 200.00 but on clearance for 80.00. Boy is It ever happy. Those are very nice coats and they last for a long time. That was my best bargain. (so far). Now I have to stocking stuff. Those can be expensive also. I like to get things on clearance dont you all?? I really like to brag about the price I paid. I go to the Salvation Army all the time on saturday night and get things for .49 cents. I like to be warm so I buy lots of turtle necks. But Ive got jeans, sweaters and shorts all for only .49 cents. Do you all have a S.A. around you??? Well, talk to you all later have a great day, Ronna

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Only 10 degrees here this morning. Brrr!!!

sarv speaking of Frederik Meijer Gardens...they have a fabulous indoor decorated Christmas Tree display this time of year so if anybody is shopping on 28th St. FMG is only a short drive north on the East Beltline. They have great indoor plant displays and a huge greenhouse (aren't they call arboretums or something like that?) with a waterfall and running water creek and live exotic birds.
Their gift shop is awesome too with lots of unique and high quality stuff and where I got my new wind chimes and great place to find Xmas gifts.

Dori glad you got the Peacock. Does the owner have a place to house him for the winter? Will he feed and water him? Does he have other birds?

l8 degrees here this morning. We are expecting a storm to start around 6pm this evening. They say a combination of snow & ice then turning to rain. Should be quite a mess.

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Brenda I left food in the GH the other night and he must have when in to eat and the WIND shut the door behind him! When i went out to rebait the trap(ha ha)he was standing inside the GH looking at me so i gave him some water n bread.

CottageRose-He has a pen with peacocks and a peacock house, he also has rabbits and goats over there. Its a mile straight across the field, the route my lil dude took to get here.

Im going to miss him, but i know its what has to be :(

my DH got the boyz a new Xbox 360 last night

CR- I went and saw those trees last year...it was nice. I've also gone to hear several lectures there...delightful too! I always get a kick out of going as it is mainly females.

Cold here, but no stinkin weather yet!! You know Terri DeBorr....always forecasts the worse and it turns out to be nothing.

Got a couple more gifts yesterday...I'm not stressing yet!

Dori...we got Guitar Hero 3 for our DGS...if you don't have that yet...your boys would love it. Now I'm looking at Dance, dance, revolution for me!!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Sue we have GH3 and im trying to find Rock band set, you get guitar n drums and a mic.
I want Dance Dance for me too! Said thats what i was going to get with my $ i got from classified add. I used most of it to gas my camaro all summer.(sigh)

I called the neighbor and they will be here this afternoon to get lil dude-sad to see him go his tail feathers were just getting long again. I have all kind of ones he gave me this summer in exchange for food and water and a GH to roost on. It was a great summer!

Let us know when the storm hits your side of The MItten.

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Sarv I know what you mean about the weather forecasters sensationalizing the weather.
They get all dramatic about it and nothing happens.
Guess it makes for good news in their opinion/not mine.
I rarely watch the news these days whether local or national.
Its much ado over nothing or government propaganda.

Dori in the natural order of things older males (whether chickens or peafowl) will chase off younger males and they will go seeking their own territory. That may be why he parked in your yard for the summer.
Maybe you will have to get some of your own peafowl. They are very popular nowadays and lots of cool mutations. I always wanted a pure white pair but aren't they awful loud?

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Sleeting to beat the band here...nasty out! We just got home from our kids house...didn't seem slippery out...just plain nasty!

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

The sleet hitting the house woke me up. It's 4 a.m. Hubby let the dogs out and said it looks like we have 4-5 inches of snow and now it's sleeting on top of it.

I'm all ready for it though. Both my van and hubby's car are in the garage. The old truck is in the pole barn. Got the snowshovel by each door inside all sprayed with WD-40 to keep the snow from sticking to it. Just outside the back door on a bench is a big bucket full of icymelt. I've sprayed the gate latches with WD-40 and put Vasoline all over them to keep them from freezing. House is full of food and extra water. We scrape our driveway which is a huge turnaround cement drive with a blade on a tractor and it's full of diesel and ready to go just inside the pole barn door. Got to the tire store today and had my snow tires put on my van.

I don't plan on going anywhere or doing much of anything today except sit indoors and watch the snow outside. I think I'll wrap Christmas presents and make a nice chicken stew.

My friend who lives two miles over emailed me her well pump is froze. She put a heat lamp on it so I hope it thaws out. I told her if she needs help to call my son the plumber. He's got a pipe thawing machine. He's been getting quite a few calls for frozen pipes already.

Stay warm and keep writing. Playing on the computer helps pass the winter away. ha ha ha

Oh yes, but covered with ICE... Main roads are clear but the side roads are really slick. We're have hot dogs here! Quick and easy lol Tomorro may have pot roast or chili... Haven't decided.

Later

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Vern just came in from scraping off the driveway. He says he thinks we got about 8 inches of snow. I don't know about that but it sure does look like a lot. It's wet and heavy too and full of water. I shoveled by the back door to the gate and could hardly lift the shovel. The little dogs were out with me watching. Stupid me turns my back so I'm shoveling backwards and stepped in fresh doggy doo doo. I know those dogs do that on purpose and are laughing their heads off. :) They see a clean spot and they run to see who can poop in it first.

It's cloudy and gloomy looking here. I'm going to call my son and see if the grandbaby can come over and help me build a snowman. I wonder if I remember how ?? It's been too long.

Have fun playing in the snow. Maybe I can get my son to bring his snowmobile over for me to try out.

Chat later,

Brenda
