hart- cute story! thanks for the traiining tip. Java is such a good doggy! hope she's coming along well..
Time for a pup-date
Time for another "pup-date"! Phoebe's second visit to the vet yesterday, WOW, she's grown!! Last visit, 5 weeks ago, she was almost 10 lbs, now weighing in at 25.9! There are several vets in this practice, last time was told she probably had alot of Rottweiler in her. This vet said she looks like she will be what they used to call farm collies or English Shepherds? Googled it and found the picture below. She's a sweetie, regardless of what her 'heritage' is :) She had her first bath on Sunday - someone had shot a deer and just left it, and of course Phoebe found it :( She was super in the bathtub though and now she smells wonderful and is so soft! Only problem we've had with her - on Thanksgiving, she heard a dog and kids playing in the neighbor's yard - across the road. We were outside the next day trimming some trees and she went back to investigate again :( Fortunately, the neighbor is great, just loves her, but we've asked him not to encourage her visits, to please be stern with her and send her home - she's just way too friendly :)
Any "pup-dates" from anyone else?
Interesting color pattern on that face. Nice face. Need a new picture of Phoebe now. I didn't realize she was going to get this big.
Addy is growing like a weed too. Almost six months so I have to call the vet and ask details on the dirty deed. She has calmed down a tiny bit. Last week took her to a park for the second time and she must have remembered it cuz she almost pulled my husbands arm off to get tothe woods. She insisted on being at the front of the group. I thought she would want to be in the middle or back and shepard us. She also likes to carry things -when she goes out the door, and practically self-trained to get the newspaper. Clowning around with a sixteen yr old
Awww, your babies are so pretty. And growing like weeds! Jello has shorter legs than Java and her head is smaller but her torso and paws are bigger than Java's. I think she's going to be a big girl.
Don't you just love it when they find something dead and roll in it and they're so proud when they come trotting home with that lovely smell all over them? LOL
Have not had that particular joy yet, but the other day she stopped dead in her tracks in the yard. She found the rear half of Chester or Chip's afternoon snack- mouse.
Great photos!
LOL - Sally your 16y.o. has great taste in t-shirts!

LOL! Came home yesterday and read this right after Phoebe saw Lucky walking into the driveway with a critter :) She immediately stole all Lucky's fun and they both ran off together - not sure who won :(
Great pic Sally, and I agree, your son has good taste :) I really need to get some new pics of Phoebe since she's growing so quickly. Don't want to miss out on all those puppy pics! Hopefully I'll get some soon and post so you can see how big she's getting :)
Thought you might be interested in hearing that a pregnancy test earlier in the week has confirmed that "we are with litter." So ... since it is official, I guess I'll take this opportunity to post a pic of DH and his "baby's momma." LOL I took this a couple of months ago at a show. Yes, she's kindasorta sitting in his lap. GoofyGirl.
ROFLOL! Identical expressions!!
Beautiful momma dog!
rcn48: Phoebe is growing up fast! She's a beauty and I'm sure that she's a wonderful addition to your family!
sallyg: Your son gives a whole new meaning to "lifting weights"! Great picture!!
wrightie: Love the picture of soon-to-be Momma and your DH! That's so funny!!
Update on Ginger: Yes, she's now been 'fixed'. Supposedly, that's makes them calmer.....NOT! She's up to her usual antics, energy and playfulness. I'll post a picture tomorrow of one of her pups, Lenny, that we gave to our dear friends who had lost their beloved Rottie to Cancer the previous year.
LOL, the expression(s) are priceless :)
I still haven't taken any pictures to show you how fast Phoebe is growing :( BUT, I did pick up the cutest bandanna for her to wear when I do! :)
double posted

well, wrightie- that Mom sure does like your DH ! that's sweet. Had they just met? Are Great Danes generally such love bugs?
yeah I should probably try to get to the Love show Cirque de Soleil.
Addy just got fixed last week, all fine. 'Restrict her activities" OK, only eat ONE cat poop today LOL And you've heard the herding cats expression? She's actually getting some mastery of it. She pins Chester until he gets nasty and comes away with spit all over his head.
Yep, SG, they had just met that day ... and it is indeed typical Dane behavior. They're "velcro dogs." :~)
No wonder you fall in love. Now when is birth expected?
approx. Jan. 10th
:>)
Wrightie, that picture is adorable. She's a beautiful dog. Are you getting excited about your new baby? Dumb question, huh? LOL
NO, HART. NOT EXCITED AT ALL. lololololol
(... and thanks! She's got lots of personality ... brains, too ... PUPPY FEVER!!!)
She pins Chester until he gets nasty and comes away with spit all over his head.
I love it!! Phoebe and Lucky do the same thing! There are times that I feel "hard" fur on the back of Lucky's neck and then realize it's from Phoebe :) Lucky actually gets more than nasty - he tackles Phoebe at full throttle, takes her down and the two of them are wrestling until I break it up!
wrightie, I can't imagine having to wait until January - when we finally found Phoebe we only had to wait two weeks!
I wish it was January, rcn. Unfortunately, January is when they'll be born. It'll be mid-March till we can bring home the Baby. UGH.
will you visit? is she close by? it was nice that we could visit our growing pups before picking one.
Well ... it's at least a six hour drive North so I'm not sure if I'll visit or not. Probably not, but I've become pretty tight with the breeder and am sure that I'll be getting tons of photos and updates from email, etc.
That's a long drive even to see a puppy
I think it will be a nice surprise when you finally get to see her in the flesh. Isn't she going to be adorable with that gorgeous mama?
You should see Pops! He's a big mantle boy (tuxedo markings). They ought to have a handsome gaggle of bittybabies. :~)
We had friends years ago in Richmond who had a Great Dane with those markings. He was beautiful and the world's biggest lapdog.
My aunt's next door neighbor when I was a kid had a wonderful brindle Great Dane named Jazzbo. He was such a terrific dog. We loved it because when we would visit my aunt and head for home, we'd look out and there was Jazzbo, loping along behind the car. He'd follow us home every time and then we'd get to play with him before taking him back home.
Manassas was a very small town then so it was okay for a dog to run down Sudley Road. LOL
I still haven't taken any "good" pictures of Phoebe but thought I'd post this one of her with her new toy. We exchanged gifts with some friends this week and Phoebe's stuffed Santa was a huge hit with her :) Santa's already had "surgery" - some of his stuffing was on the floor yesterday morning! LOL
cute pupster!
LOL- don't they loveto get back to their predator roots, tearing out the guts,or making the victim squeal (squeak)
Debbie, there are a series of toys that my dogs love. They're all Hide-a-(something) and have smaller toys that the dogs can root out of the larger toy. For example, Hide-a-Squirrel has little stuffed squirrels inside a stuffed tree trunk. It gives them something they can eviscerate without making a mess with stuffing.
Upco has the cheapest price on them I've seen, around $8-$9 which is about half what I've seen them for at other places.
hart, thanks I'll have to check them out - Santa had his second "surgery" this morning LOL
Finally! My son's been bugging me for pictures of Phoebe so he can see how much she's grown and I finally tied her Christmas present on her and grabbed the camera. She posed for me, got a couple of pictures and the battery on the camera died :( Oh well, at least I got a few! Hard to see how much she's grown, but the car tire gives you some idea.
I'm happy to report that the puppies were born last night, on DH's birthday!
Look at how big these babies are getting!!!! Beautiful!!!
Wrightie - so excited for you!!! Are these the GD pups? Were you the one wanting a Blue Merle or am I getting confused - as usual? :)
that's someone else, chantell. these are mainly mantles and harl's - yipppeeeee!
Yippppeeeeeee, Wrightie!!!
Phoebe sure is going to be a pretty dog, Debbie. I love those orange "eyebrows."
congratulations !!
wrightie, Congratulations!!! Trying to catch up after being away a week and almost missed this! It's been a long time since I had a puppy and although it's a lot of work, it's FUN work. Phoebe makes us smile and laugh every day with her antics :) Always used to be excited returning home after a trip to see the animals, but I was especially excited this time - drove the 12 hr trip with only 3 stops and if I didn't need gas I wouldn't have even made the last stop - I just wanted to get home ASAP to see Phoebe...and Rick of course :) LOL Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new pup!
hart, I love Phoebe's "eyebrows" too :) My daughter said I need to 'paint' them with a magic marker or something - said they freak her out! LOL
Update: Last booster shot the day before I left for Maine - Phoebe weighed in at 33 lbs - an 8 lb gain in a month! Vet says she thinks she will be about 65-75 lbs!!! So much for the 45-50 lbs the rescue league told us she would be - but that's okay, there will be just more of her to love! When we took her to the vet, Lucky had to make the trip as well :( We discovered puncture wounds in his chest and we're almost 100% positive they were the result of Lucky and Phoebe's wrestling matches :( We're trying to keep their 'matches' a little more civil, but that darned cat just keeps coming back for more! Phoebe obeys when we tell her to leave Lucky alone - we turn our backs and Lucky's tackling Phoebe again - KIDS!!! LOL
